The force to which Cs atoms are subjected in the one-dimensional magneto-optical trap (lD-MOT) is calculated, and properties of this force are discussed. Several methods to increase the number of Cs atoms in the lD-MOT are presented on the basis of the analysis of the capture and escape of Cs atoms in the ID-MOT.

This paper reports what is to our knowledge the first demonstration of Zeeman absorption Faraday anomalous dispersion optical filter (hereafter abbreviated to FADOF/Zeeman). The mutual relations among passband, tuning capability, cell temperature and magnetic field of FADOF/Zeeman have been studied theoretically and experimentally. The results showed that the single passband of FADOF/Zeeman was about 1 GHz, which is 3 times less than the passband of FADOF. The tuning capability was about 1 GHz/0.01 T.

Natural rubidium is a mixture of the two isotopes, 85Rb and 87Rb, the natural abundances of which are 72.2 and 27.8 percent, respectively. Taking into account their hyperfine structure, we have calculated the Faraday anomalous dispersion spectra (FADS) of Rb D2 lines in different magnetic fields and observed them experimentally. The theoretical calculations are in good agreement with the experimental results. In this paper, we also discuss the results.

We report a digital space optical communication system with new features both in the transmitting and in the receiving ends. The diode laser source is stabilized to within ±100 kHz by locking its frequency to the transmission peak of a Faraday anomalous dispersion optical filter (FADOF). The optical filter in the receiver uses two FADOF’s that are linked to eliminate the multipeak structure and achieve a single-peak bandwidth of ~1 GHz. The detection sensitivity of this system is 23 times higher than that of a system with a traditional interference filter.

The processes of excitation transfer from the 82S1/2 state to the 62D state of rubidium in Rb(82S1/2) – Rb(52S1/2) and Rb(82S1/2) – H2 collisions have been studied experimentally. During irradiating the Rb vapor, mixed with H2, by two light beams for selective stepwise excitation, the Rb 82S1/2 → 52P3/2 direct fluorescence and the Rb 62D3/2 → 52P1/2 sensitized fluorescence have been measured as a function of H2 gas pressure. The measurements yielded the cross-sections σ(82S1/2 → 62D) and σ*(82S1/2 → 62D) of Rb 82S1/2 → 62D excitation transfer induced by collisions with 52S1/2 Rb atom and H2 molecules respectively. The results are discussed in detail.

We have studied the high-order nonlinear frequency-mixing effect in transverse Zeeman La-ser medium by using Lamb's semiclassical theory and vector field model, and obtained the analytical expressions of dielectrical polarization and light intensity. The results could explain the phenomena of high-order harmonic in σ-π light and σ, π light, and give the physical interpretation of beat wave deformation.

Based on the previous paper[1], in this work we consider the Maxwell's distribution of atomic velocities, study the near degenerate four-wave mixing effect in transverse Zeeman He-Ne laser by using the vector field model and Lamb's semiclassical theory. We give out the formulas of high-order nonlinear effect, explaine theoretically the physical reason of the beat frequency distortion, and have done the numerical calculation by using computer. The results show that the predictions of theory in this paper are in keeping with experimental results.

Tn this paper, the optical Bloeh equation with relaxation terms in saturated spe-ctroseopy is solved directly by using the perturbation theory. The reenrren formulas are given, approximate results of any order can be obtained from them. The first and second order solutions are derived and explained.
