This paper experimentally investigated the heat transfer performance of two internal helically finned tubes covering low Reynolds number in turbulent flow. A water-ethylene glycol mixture flowed inside and R134a boiled outside. The numbers of fin, the helix angles, and the ratios of fin height to diameter for the two test tubes were 38 and 60, 60° and 45°, and 0.0534 and 0.0222, respectively. The experimental Reynolds number was lower to 5400, covering the critical Reynolds number Recr for turbulent flow. The data was divided into good and poor linearity regions by the modified Wilson plot method, which was much suitable for this case than that the data was treated as one region. The j factors showed ascending trend for Re below Recr and descending trend for Re above Recr. Enhancement factors of friction factor or j factor of the test tubes increased with increasing Reynolds number and eventually approached at the maximum for the Reynolds number above Recr. The test tubes exhibited maximum efficiency indexes of 2.1 and 1.88, indicating superior overall performance compared to the majority of existing tubes. By utilizing the experimental data, a correlation was established basing on the critical Reynolds number, resulting in over 96% of the predicted errors falling within the range of ± 8%. Central Asia has a dry climate, scarce water resources, extremely fragile ecosystems, and frequent extreme precipitation events. Using the data of 22 global climate models in the CMIP6 plan, the trend of the extreme precipitation index under four Shared Socioeconomic Pathways (SSPs) was estimated by calculating eight extreme precipitation indices in Central Asia and optimizing the best multi-model set using the Taylor evaluation and comprehensive score. The results showed that in Central Asia, the CMIP6 mode and multi-mode collection can reasonably reproduce the regional differences of various severe precipitation indices. However, these results only performed well for consecutive dry days (CDD) and annual total precipitation (PRCPTOT), but poorly for the replication of extreme high- and low-value regions. We found that the simulation effect of the multi-mode ensemble results was better than that of a single mode, and that CMIP6 can roughly depict the evolving characteristics of extreme precipitation events. However, the CMIP6 data performed poorly in terms of spatial divergence ability characteristics. According to the estimated results, mountainous regions have experienced considerable changes, and a significant increase in the range of change was observed for severe precipitation (consecutive wet days (CWD), single day maximum precipitation (Rx1day), and PRCPTOT) in wet and dry regions during the twenty-first century. Simultaneously, the humidification trend accelerated after 2050, and four shared socioeconomic paths showed similar trends; however, the extreme precipitation rate was higher under the high forcing path. Consecutive dry days (CDD) in Central Asia decreased by 90% under SSP5-8.5 relative to SSP1-2.6, whereas CWD, Rx1day, and PRCPTOT increased by 20%, 150%, and 118%, respectively. The microstructures and mechanical properties of a γ′-strengthened nickel-based superalloy, GH4099, produced by laser powder bed fusion, at room temperature and 900 °C are investigated, followed by three various heat treatments. The as-built (AB) alloy consists of cellular/dendrite substructures within columnar grains aligning in <100> crystal orientation. No γ′ phase is observed in the AB sample due to the relatively low content of Al +Ti. Following the standard solid solution treatment, the molten pool boundaries and cellular/dendrite substructures disappear, whilst the columnar grains remain. The transformation of columnar grains to equiaxed grains occurs through the primary solid solution treatment due to the recovery and recrystallization process. After aging at 850 °C for 480 min, the carbides in the three samples distributed at grain boundaries and within grains and the spherical γ′ phase whose size is about 43 nm ± 16 nm develop in the standard solid solution + aging and primary solid solution + aging samples (SA and PA samples) while the bimodal size of cubic (181 nm ± 85 nm) and spherical (43 nm ± 16 nm) γ′ precipitates is presented in the primary solid solution + secondary solid solution + aging sample (PSA samples). The uniaxial tensile tests are carried out at room temperature (RT) and 900 °C. The AB sample has the best RT ductility (~51% of elongation and ~67% of area reduction). Following the three heat treatments, the samples all acquire excellent RT tensile properties (>750 MPa of yield strengths and >32% of elongations). However, clear ductility dips and intergranular fracture modes occur during the 900 °C tensile tests, which could be related to carbide distribution and a change in the deformation mechanism. Anthropogenic eutrophication is known to impair the stability of aboveground net primary productivity (ANPP), but its effects on the stability of belowground (BNPP) and total (TNPP) net primary productivity remain poorly understood. Based on a nitrogen and phosphorus addition experiment in a Tibetan alpine grassland, we show that nitrogen addition had little impact on the temporal stability of ANPP, BNPP, and TNPP, whereas phosphorus addition reduced the temporal stability of BNPP and TNPP, but not ANPP. Significant interactive effects of nitrogen and phosphorus addition were observed on the stability of ANPP because of the opposite phosphorus effects under ambient and enriched nitrogen conditions. We found that the stability of TNPP was primarily driven by that of BNPP rather than that of ANPP. The responses of BNPP stability cannot be predicted by those of ANPP stability, as the variations in responses of ANPP and BNPP to enriched nutrient, with ANPP increased while BNPP remained unaffected, resulted in asymmetric responses in their stability. The dynamics of grasses, the most abundant plant functional group, instead of community species diversity, largely contributed to the ANPP stability. Under the enriched nutrient condition, the synchronization of grasses reduced the grass stability, while the latter had a significant but weak negative impact on the BNPP stability. These findings challenge the prevalent view that species diversity regulates the responses of ecosystem stability to nutrient enrichment. Our findings also suggest that the ecological consequences of nutrient enrichment on ecosystem stability cannot be accurately predicted from the responses of aboveground components and highlight the need for a better understanding of the belowground ecosystem dynamics. Domestic donkeys (Equus asinus) have been maintained mainly for service purposes in the past. Nowadays, there is an increasing interest in donkey milk and meat production in several countries, including China. Donkey meat is highly consumed because of its nutritional value and unique flavor. However, genomic studies on donkey meat are limited. Therefore, in this study, we aimed to examine the molecular difference of longissimus dorsi muscles of donkey, cow, and goat. RNA sequencing and Proteome sequencing technology were used to analyze the transcriptome and proteome of the longissimus dorsi muscle of donkey, cow, and goat. A total of 1338 and 1780 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified in donkey meat compared with that in cow and goat meat, respectively. Most of the DEGs were involved in biological processes, including small GTPase-mediated signal transduction, protein ubiquitination, protein glycosylation, and MAP kinase tyrosine/serine/threonine phosphatase activity. Additionally, 764 and 1024 differentially expressed proteins (DEPs) were identified in cow vs. donkey, and goat vs. donkey, respectively; these DEPs were mainly involved in metabolism. Accurate segmentation of cardiac anatomy is a prerequisite for the diagnosis of cardiovascular disease. However, due to differences in imaging modalities and imaging devices, known as domain shift, the segmentation performance of deep learning models lacks reliability. In this paper, we propose a two-stage progressive unsupervised domain adaptation network (TSP-UDANet) to reduce domain shift when segmenting cardiac images from various sources. We alleviate the domain shift between the feature distribution of the source and target domains by introducing an intermediate domain as a bridge. The TSP-UDANet consists of three sub-networks: a style transfer sub-network, a segmentation sub-network, and a self-training sub-network. We conduct cooperative alignment of different domains at image level, feature level, and output level. Specifically, we transform the appearance of images across domains and enhance domain invariance by adversarial learning in multiple aspects to achieve unsupervised segmentation of the target modality. We validate the TSP-UDANet on the MMWHS (unpaired MRI and CT images), MS-CMRSeg (cross-modality MRI images), and M&Ms (cross-vendor MRI images) datasets. Background and aims: Grasslands hold one of the most important soil carbon stocks in the world, which is vulnerable to climate change (i.e. precipitation) and human disturbance (i.e. land-use). This study aimed to investigate responses and mechanisms of soil organic carbon (SOC) decomposition and accumulation to precipitation and land-use in an Inner Mongolian grassland. Methods: Using a randomized complete block design with a split plot, an experiment with land-use regimes (fencing, grazing, and mowing, since 2011) and altered precipitation amount (wet, + 50% precipitation; CT, ambient precipitation; dry, −50% precipitation; since 2016) was conducted to explore their impacts on SOC decomposition (represented by soil heterotrophic respiration and extracellular enzyme activities) and accumulation (represented by SOC and its physical fractions) from samples collected in 2019. Results: SOC decomposition significantly increased under wet treatment, but decreased under dry treatment. Wet treatment increased SOC accumulation via the increment of mineral-associated organic carbon (MAOC), and vice versa for dry treatment. Precipitation amount may affect soil microbial biomass and activities via alterations of water supply, plant-derived carbon input, and other soil properties, leading to changes of SOC dynamics. Nevertheless, land-use regimes had little influences on SOC dynamics. Conclusions: Compared to land-use regimes, precipitation treatments can significantly change SOC dynamics. Overall, SOC increased under higher precipitation amount, but decreased with less precipitation. We emphasize that the SOC stock in Inner Mongolia temperate grassland may have an unexpectable fast response to precipitation alteration, but more investigation is still needed in longer terms. This paper aims at preparing a smart wearable purple ceramic that meet the color requirements of purple smart wear in the market after using zirconate neodymium as a chromogenic agent. However, the mechanical performance of zirconate neodymium purple ceramic is not satisfactory, especially it has an extremely low fracture toughness. To solve this, a 3 mol% yttria-stabilized zirconia (3YSZ) is added to zirconate neodymium in the preparation of multiphase ceramics to improve its mechanical properties. In this experiment, a series of ceramic samples with addition of increasing amount of 3YSZ 0, 20, 40, 50, 60, 70 and 80% were prepared in the 1400–1500 °C sintering temperature range. It was found that at the same temperature, the mechanical properties of the ceramic samples gradually improved with the increase in the 3YSZ content. Moreover, with the same content, the mechanical properties of the ceramic samples gradually improved with the decrease in temperature. The results show that when 3YSZ has a mass fraction of 80% and is sintered at 1400 °C, the fracture toughness of the prepared ceramic samples reaches 8.15 MPa‧m1/2, which is nearly two times higher than that of the monolithic neodymium zirconate 2.57 MPa‧m1/2. The Vickers hardness of the prepared ceramic samples reached 12.93 GPa, which is nearly 88% higher than the undoped neodymium zirconate. This indicates that the samples can be applied in smart wearables, such as mobile phone backplane, with a certain practical significance for engineering toughening of zirconate ceramics. Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are a class of noncoding RNAs with a covalently closed loop. Studies have demonstrated that circRNA can function as microRNA (miRNA) sponges or competing endogenous RNAs. Although circRNA has been explored in some species and tissues, the genetic basis of testis development and spermatogenesis in donkeys remain unknown. We performed RNA-seq to detect circRNA expression profiles of adult donkey testes. Length distribution and other characteristics were shown a total of 1971 circRNAs were differentially expressed and 12,648 and 6261 circRNAs were detected from the testis and caput epididymis, respectively. Among these circRNAs, 1472 circRNAs were downregulated and 499 circRNAs were upregulated in the testis. Moreover, KEGG pathway analyses and Gene Ontology were performed for host genes of circRNAs. A total of 39 upregulated circRNA host genes were annotated in spermatogenesis terms, including PIWIL2, CATSPERD, CATSPERB, SPATA6, and SYCP1. Other host genes were annotated in the focal adhesion, Rap1 signaling pathway. Downregulated expressed circRNA host genes participated in the TGF-β signaling pathway, GnRH signaling pathway, estrogen signaling pathway, and calcium signaling pathway. Background: Inferring historical population admixture events yield essential insights in understanding a species demographic history. Methods are available to infer admixture events in demographic history with extant genetic data from multiple sources. Due to the deficiency in ancient population genetic data, there lacks a method for admixture inference from a single source. Pairwise Sequentially Markovian Coalescent (PSMC) estimates the historical effective population size from lineage genomes of a single individual, based on the distribution of the most recent common ancestor between the diploid's alleles. However, PSMC does not infer the admixture event. Results: Here, we proposed eSMC, an extended PSMC model for admixture inference from a single source. We evaluated our model's performance on both in silico data and real data. We simulated population admixture events at an admixture time range from 5 kya to 100 kya (5 years/generation) with population admix ratio at 1:1, 2:1, 3:1, and 4:1, respectively. The root means the square error is ± 7.61 kya for all experiments. Then we implemented our method to infer the historical admixture events in human, donkey and goat populations. The estimated admixture time for both Han and Tibetan individuals range from 60 kya to 80 kya (25 years/generation), while the estimated admixture time for the domesticated donkeys and the goats ranged from 40 kya to 60 kya (8 years/generation) and 40 kya to 100 kya (6 years/generation), respectively. The estimated admixture times were concordance to the time that domestication occurred in human history. Conclusion: Our eSMC effectively infers the time of the most recent admixture event in history from a single individual's genomics data. Lack of archaeological and whole-genome diversity data has restricted current knowledge of the evolutionary history of donkeys. With the advancement of science and technology, the discovery of archaeological evidence, the development of molecular genetics, and the improvement of whole-genome sequencing technology, the in-depth understanding of the origin and domestication of donkeys has been enhanced, however. Given the lack of systematic research, the present study carefully screened and collected multiple academic papers and books, journals, and literature on donkeys over the past 15 years. The origin and domestication of donkeys are reviewed in this paper from the aspects of basic information, cultural origin, bioarcheology, mitochondrial and chromosomal microsatellite sequences, and whole-genome sequence comparison. It also highlights and reviews genome assembly technology, by assembling the genome of an individual organism and comparing it with related sample genomes, which can be used to produce more accurate results through big data statistics, analysis, and computational correlation models. Background: The donkey industry in the world and especially in China is developing rapidly, and donkey farming is transforming gradually from the family farming model to large-scale, intensive, and integrated industrial operations, which could ensure the stability of product quality and quantity. However, theoretical research on donkey breeding and its technical development lags far behind that of other livestock, thereby limiting its industrial development. This review provides holistic information for the donkey industry and researchers, that could promote theoretical research, genomic selection (GS), and reproductive management of the donkey population. In this study, a Finite Element (FE) model of locally strengthened high-strength stainless-steel tube subjected to lateral impact loads is established using LS-DYNA to investigate its dynamic behaviours. The accuracy of the FE results is verified by comparing with the test results. The impact force, bending moment, stress and strain responses as well as the internal energy dissipation histories of the strengthened tube are analysed during the entire impact process. The results indicate that the impact resistance of the strengthened tube is obviously enhanced as compared to hollow stainless-steel tube. Furthermore, parametric studies are conducted to reveal the influence of axial compressive force, impact position, impact velocity and material strength on the impact behaviour of the strengthened tube. The results show that the application of axial compressive force reduced the impact force and increased the deformations of the strengthened tube. The impact resistance of the strengthened tube performed an increasing trend when moving the impact position towards the support and increasing the material strength. In addition, the increase of impact velocity significantly reduced the impact duration. Finally, design recommendations and process were proposed to facilitate the application of locally strengthened tube. • The impact response of locally strengthened stainless-steel tube was numerically studied. • The impact force, bending moment, stress and strain response and energy dissipation were analysed. • Concrete was found to dissipate more impact energy than the other parts. • The effects of variant parameters on impact performances of the strengthened tubes were investigated. Long noncoding RNA nuclear-enriched abundant transcript 1 (NEAT1) is involved in the progression of Parkinson's disease (PD), but the specific regulatory role needs further exploration. This study showed that the expression of NEAT1 was upregulated in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and peripheral blood of patients with different stages of PD. 1-Methyl-4-phenylpyridine (MPP)-treated PC 12 cells were transfected with si-NEAT1, and MPP treatment promoted cell apoptosis, oxidative stress and inflammatory factor secretion. Si-NEAT1 reversed the effects of MPP. NEAT1 silencing eliminated the effect of MPP on the protein expression levels of LC3-II and p62/SQSTM1. By using an online bioinformatics database, Fused in Sarcoma (FUS) was confirmed to be an RNA binding protein of NEAT1, and it was highly expressed in the CSF and peripheral blood of patients with PD. Si-FUS was transfected into MPP-treated PC 12 cells to detect cell apoptosis, oxidative stress, inflammatory factor secretion and autophagy, and the results were the same as those of transfection of si-NEAT1. Furthermore, MPP treatment reduced the phosphorylation levels of PI3K, Akt and mTOR, whereas si-FUS reversed the effects of MPP. In vivo , compared with the model group, the PD mice showed reduced NEAT1 and FUS expression levels and activated PI3K pathway after being injected with si-NEAT1. The brain tissue of NEAT1-silenced PD mice had decreased inflammatory infiltration and apoptosis and increased neurological scores. [Display omitted] • A novel 3D N-doped carbon microspheres supported NiMo bimetallic catalyst was constructed. • Ni metal was uniformly dispersed with fine nanoparticles size (about 5.7 nm). • Synergistic effect of Ni, NiN x and MoO x sites endowed excellent nitrobenzene hydrogenation performance of the catalyst. • The catalyst showed a robust stability for no less than 6 cycles. • The catalyst exhibited outstanding universality for the hydrogenation of substituted nitroarenes. Reasonable modification of Ni-based catalysts is crucial for improving their catalytic activity in the nitroarenes hydrogenation but remaining a major challenge. Herein, a MoO x -promoted Ni-based bimetallic catalyst with fine Ni nanoparticles (only about 5.7 nm) anchored on N-doped carbon microspheres (NiMo 1 @NC-500) was prepared for the first time by a simple one-pot hydrothermal strategy and exhibits excellent catalytic activity for the probe reaction of nitrobenzene hydrogenation. The characterization and DFT calculations results elucidated that Ni and MoO 2 sites promoted the activation and adsorption of H 2 ; while the NiN x sites significantly enhanced the adsorption of the reaction substrate nitrobenzene. This synergistic adsorption mode endowed the catalyst with excellent nitrobenzene hydrogenation performance under mild conditions (80 °C, 1 MPa H 2 , 3 h). Moreover, the as-prepared catalyst exhibited robust stability for no less than 6 cycles and outstanding generality for the hydrogenation of other substituted nitroarenes, which provide a profound insight for the preparation of efficient and economical catalysts for the reduction of nitroarenes. Novel itaconic acid-derived green hyperbranched macromers with polymerizable C=C bonds both in the internal skeleton and periphery were synthesized under mild synthetic conditions. The addition of hyperbranched polymers can make the cured cross-linked network denser and more uniform, and thus, leading to a significant improvement in performance of the coatings. A series of hyperbranched polymers derived from biomass itaconic acid was prepared via aliphatic nucleophilic substitution polycondensation reaction under mild conditions by using bis(2-bromoethyl) itaconate and trimeric acid as A 2 and B 3 monomers, respectively, and tetramethylguanidine as catalyst. On this basis, the hyperbranched macromers that contained C = C double bonds in the internal skeleton and the periphery were obtained by further adding A 1 monomer (2-bromoethyl acrylate) directly into the reaction system. The successful synthesis of these macromers were confirmed via proton nuclear magnetic resonance, Fourier transform infrared and gel permeation chromatography. The results of photo-differential scanning calorimetry and rheological experiments showed that these macromers exerted a positive effect on the ultraviolet (UV) curing of commercial resin. The properties of cured splines and coatings, such as mechanical properties, pencil hardness, and thermal stability, were considerably improved with the addition of hyperbranched macromers. They were significantly better than those of linear macromers and macromers that contained polymerizable groups only in the inner framework or their terminal units. The results show that both the inner and terminal C = C double bonds of hyperbranched macromers can participate in UV cross-linking. Background. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) differentiate into osteocytes, adipocytes, and chondrocytes. Resveratrol and bone morphogenetic protein 9 (BMP9) are known osteogenic induction factors of MSCs, but the effect of both resveratrol and BMP9 on osteogenesis is unknown. Herein, we explored whether resveratrol cooperates with BMP9 to improve osteogenic induction. Methods. The osteogenic induction of resveratrol and BMP9 on C3H10T1/2 cells was evaluated by detecting the staining and activity of the early osteogenic marker alkaline phosphatase (ALP). In addition, the late osteogenic effect was measured by the mRNA and protein levels of osteogenic markers, such as osteopontin (OPN) and osteocalcin (OCN). To assess the bone formation function of resveratrol plus BMP9 in vivo, we transplanted BMP9-infected C3H10T1/2 cells into nude mice followed by intragastric injection of resveratrol. Western blot (WB) analysis was utilized to elucidate the mechanism of resveratrol plus BMP9. Results. Resveratrol not only enhanced osteogenic induction alone but also improved BMP9-induced ALP at 3, 5, and 7 d postinduction. Both the early osteogenic markers (ALP, Runx2, and SP7) and the late osteogenic markers (OPN and OCN) were significantly increased when resveratrol was combined with BMP9. The fetal limb explant culture further verified these results. The in vivo bone formation experiment, which involved transplanting BMP9-overexpressing C3H10T1/2 cells into nude mice, also confirmed that resveratrol synergistically enhanced the BMP9-induced bone formation function. Resveratrol phosphorylated adenosine monophosphate- (AMP-) activated protein kinase (AMPK) and stimulated autophagy, but these effects were abolished by inhibiting AMPK and Beclin1 using an inhibitor or siRNA. Complement component 3 (C3) is the key molecule of the three pathways of complement activation (alternative, classical, and lectin pathways), which are involved in phagocytosis, inflammation, and immunoregulation processes to destroy infectious microorganisms. In this study, three novel single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) (g.-1293C>G located in the 5′-flanking region, g.56T>C in exon I, and g.7017C>T in exon XII) of the C3 gene were detected using created restriction site polymerase chain reaction, restriction fragment length polymorphism, and DNA sequencing in 952 cattle from three Chinese breeds. The genotypes and haplotypes were analyzed to investigate the polymorphisms and their possible implications, with particular investigative focus on their associations with serum C3 level, complement hemolytic activity (CH50 and ACH50), and milk production traits. The g.56T>C SNP in exon I affected the serum ACH50 (P<0.01) and the milk somatic cell score (SCS) (P<0.05), and the g.7017C>T SNP in exon XII significantly affected the serum ACH50 values (P<0.01). Moreover, statistical analyses revealed that individuals with genotypic combination CCC/GCC showed significantly lower SCS and the lowest C3 concentration in serum compared with cows with CCC/GTT (P = 0.0007) and CTT/CTT (P = 0.0021); the individuals with CCC/CCT had significantly higher ACH50 values than those with CCC/CTC (P = 0.0008) and CTC/GTC (P = 0.001); cows with CCT/CTT had higher values of CH50 and 305-day milk yield (P>0.05). The C3 expression levels were significantly increased in lung and mammary tissues (P<0.05), while significantly decreased in heart, spleen, liver, and kidney tissues in mastitis cows compared with those in healthy animals (P<0.01), respectively. Bacterial counts of serum antibacterial activities were also completed to verify the effect of SNPs on resistance to mastitis pathogens. Genetically resistant cows (CCC/GCC) had serum with noticeably higher antibacterial activity against S. aureus and E. coli in vitro than the genetically susceptible CCC/GTT cows (P<0.05). Extensive studies have reported that interaction of α-synuclein amyloid species with neurons is a crucial mechanistic characteristic of Parkinson's disease (PD) and small molecules can downregulate the neurotoxic effects induced by protein aggregation. However, the exact mechanism(s) of these neuroprotective effects by small molecules remain widely unknown. In the present study, α-synuclein samples in the amyloidogenic condition were aged for 120 h with or without different concentrations of mitoquinone (MitoQ) as a quinone derivative compound and the amyloid characteristics and the relevant neurotoxicity were evaluated by Thioflavin T (ThT)/Nile red fluorescence, Congo red absorption, circular dichroism (CD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), cell viability, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), reactive oxygen species (ROS), reactive nitrogen species (RNS), malondialdehyde (MDA), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and caspase-9/-3 activity assays. Results clearly showed the capacity of MitoQ on the inhibition of the formation of α-synuclein fibrillation products through modulation of the aggregation pathway by an effect on the kinetic parameters. Also, it was shown that α-synuclein samples aged for 120 h with MitoQ trigger less neurotoxic effects against SH-SY5Y cells than α-synuclein amyloid alone. The reason is that it has safe photo or photo/thermal or dual initiator properties, which cannot be achieved by classical initiators. Thus, five novel iodonium salts (acceptors) and two amines (donors) capable of initiating thermal and photochemical polymerizations were investigated. The formations of the CTCs were assessed through their UV–visible (UV–vis) absorption spectra. The theoretical model study also attempted to show the relationship among the structure, reactivity, and efficiency of CTCs. Further explanation of the cause of this mechanism was provided by 1H NMR. • A new locally-strengthened method was developed for steel tube. • Impact tests were conducted on the locally-strengthened steel tube. • The failure mode, impact force, displacement and energy absorption were studied. • Analytical model was proposed to predict impact force and displacement responses. This paper proposes a novel stainless-steel tube locally strengthened by a concrete-filled steel tube to resist impact loads. A drop hammer impact test system was used to determine the failure modes, impact forces, and displacement responses of the strengthened tubes under an impact load. The effects of the strengthening length and thickness of the concrete and outer steel tubes on the impact responses of the strengthened tubes were investigated. The impact resistance was found to improve with an increase in the thickness of the concrete and outer steel thickness. The test results also indicated that the strengthened tubes exhibited a flexural failure mode with a combination of local and global deformations. An analytical model for predicting the dynamic responses of the locally strengthened tubes was established based on an equivalent two-degree-of-freedom (TDOF) model. The analytically predicted results were compared with the experimental results, and the good consistency between these two results demonstrated the accuracy of the established analytical model. Diaryliodonium salts play an important role as highly efficient photoinitiators in the field of photopolymerizations. They can rapidly photodecompose to produce free radicals and super acids; thus, can initiate highly efficient photocuring of acrylic and epoxy monomers and resins. However, the absorption of commercialized diphenyliodonium salts is poorly matched with popular LED light sources, and the participation of sensitizers is usually required to achieve efficient photoexcitation. Here, we synthesized five new phenyl biphenyl iodonium salts with different electron-pushing and electron-withdrawing substituents, e.g., methoxy and CN, at the biphenyl substituent. Our results demonstrate that all synthesized iodonium salts have strong absorption in the range (λ max = 258–352 nm; ε max = 21,300–29,900 M−1 cm−1). The photochemistry of these synthesized iodonium salt is strongly influenced by substituents on the biphenyl ring. All iodonium salts can undergo rapid photolysis under light excitation, with higher quantum yield of photoacid generation reaching 0.25 and can quickly initiate cationic photopolymerization of epoxy monomers. Furthermore, free radicals are generated during photolysis, which can successfully trigger free radical polymerization. These iodonium salts with good absorbance in the UVA band demonstrate their potential as excellent photoinitiators under 365–405 nm LED excitation. • A multilayer energy absorbing panel was proposed for impact resisting. • The deformation process and energy absorption behaviour were revealed. • Key parameters affecting responses of the energy absorbing panel were studied. • An analytical model was developed to calculate the displacement response. The enhancement of structural protection can be achieved by using energy absorbing structures as sacrificial layers. In this study, a new steel-PU foam-concrete-tube multilayer energy absorbing panel (SFCTMEAP) is developed to improve the impact resistance of buildings and infrastructures, and its behaviour under impact loading is numerically and analytically studied. A Finite Element (FE) model is established using LS-DYNA to further study the behaviours of SFCTMEAP, and its results (including the failure mode, displacement–time and impact force–time curves) agree well with the test data. The SFCTMEAP presents a deformation mode of local indentation of the front energy absorbing layer, flexure of the steel-concrete-steel panel and collapse of PU foam-filled steel tubes (PUFSTs). The energy dissipations of variant components of the SFCTMEAP are obtained through the FE model and the PUFSTs is the main energy absorbing component. In addition, parametric studies are performed to obtain the influences of the impact location, initial momentum of impactor and thickness of PU foam panel on the response of SFCTMEAP. The results indicates that the specimen with larger impact eccentric distance dissipates less impact energy, and raising the initial momentum of the impactor is benefit to the energy dissipation by the PUFSTs. Moreover, an analytical model is developed to calculate the displacement history of SFCTMEAP under the impact loading. The purpose of this study was to utilize the monascus pigments (MPs) for the production of functional wheat noodles. The cooking properties, texture characteristics, and microstructure of dried noodles containing MPs were investigated. The underlying mechanisms of the impact of MPs on noodles were studied. After adding MPs, noodles' water absorption, broken rate, and cooking loss increased, while the optimal cooking time and textural characteristics were reduced. SEM demonstrated that MPs weakened the gluten network, leading to uneven exposure of starch to the network. Moreover, thermal qualities (endset temperature and enthalpies) increased while pasting characteristics (setback, peak, trough, and final) decreased after incorporating MPs with wheat flour. The short-range ordered structure (R 1047/1017 : 0.616 to 0.750 and R 994/1017 : 2.229 to 2.435) and the long-range ordered structure (crystallinity: 11.87%–13.59%) of starch showed an increase with the MPs addition. Additionally, MPs decreased the gluten's β-sheet and α-helix but increased the random coil. The structural alterations in the starch and protein of the noodles were correlated with textural properties. Therefore, noodles with 0.5%∼1.0% MPs exhibited acceptable qualities. Based on the controllability of the pore structure of perforated cenospheres (PCs), this study utilized PCs with different etching concentrations for the internal curing of alkali-activated slag (AAS), aiming to achieve the optimal etching parameters for efficient internal curing. Three etching concentrations (0.3 M, 0.7 M, 1.0 M) were set to investigate the effects of water-filled PCs on the performance of internal curing of AAS mortars. The results indicated that the water released from the PCs delayed the hydration of AAS and maintained high internal relative humidity. The chemical shrinkage of AAS could be reduced. Water-filled PCs internal curing promoted the generation of hydration products around the PCs and increased their packing density, leading to a reduction in mesopores and a 12.7—27.7% increase in elastic modulus at 28 d. Photothermal heterodyne imaging (PHI), a new far-field microscopy, has become a major method for nanoparticles imaging. In this article, we studied the influences of laser parameters on PHI amplitude signals of individual gold nanoparticle (Au NP) by the finite element method (FEM) simulations and imaging experiments. Furthermore, a series of colocalization analyses were carried out with the PHI and the scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Individual Au NP with the diameters of 100 and 60 nm and nanoclusters were imaged by PHI with the backward configuration. The results show that PHI images could realize the imaging of individual 100- and 60-nm diameter Au NPs. Moreover, the size of nanoparticle determined by PHI phase images were in good agreement with the SEM results. Ag-modified TiO2 on activated carbon fibers (ACF) was synthesized and successfully used for the photocatalytic degradation of organic pollutants in this work. The physical properties of the materials were characterized using various methods such as X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope, Brunauer–Emmett–Teller, Fourier transform infrared, UV–Vis, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and reusability tests. Besides, the effects of reaction parameters on photodegradation such as silver loading, light source, organic pollutant species and initial pollutant concentration were investigated. The results showed that Ag significantly increased the number of surface adsorption sites, improved the electron transmission rate and suppressed the complexation of e− and h + . Under visible light, 1.5-Ag-TiO2/ACF [ n (Ag : TiO 2) = 1. 5 ] revealed the best catalytic activity and reusability for dye removal and toluene adsorption. Based on the experimental results, a possible photocatalytic mechanism of Ag-TiO2/ACF was proposed. This study will provide a theoretical basis for the application of Ag-TiO2/ACF photocatalyst in the field of organic pollutants treatment. The efficiency of organic pollutants degradation over Ag-TiO2/ACF photocatalyst with different Ag loadings prepared by hydrothermal method is studied. With different loading amounts of Ag-TiO2/ACF, 1.5-Ag-TiO2/ACF revealed the best photocatalytic degradation performance with more than 80% for RhB removal within 1 h when exposed to visible light, while the degradation rate of TiO2/ACF is only about 5% under the same conditions. Physical characteristics of these materials were characterized using miscellaneous methods, including XRD, SEM, BET, FT-IR, UV–Vis, EIS and reusability test. The effect of reaction parameters on the photodegradation such as Ag loading amount, light source, organic pollutants type and initial pollutant concentration was also studied. The results demonstrated that silver significantly add the quantity of surface adsorption sites, improve electron transmission and restrain the recombination between e– and h+. Background: Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a common chronic progressive disease resulting in urinary obstruction in aging men. It comes to more and more patients with massive BPH with the aging of society and extension of life expectancy. Objective: The aim of the study was to compare the clinical efficacy, safety, and complications between transurethral bipolar plasmakinetic enucleation of the prostate (PKEP) and transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) in the treatment of massive BPH. Design and Setting: Patients with BPH were divided into the PKEP group and the TURP group randomly. Intraoperative blood loss (BL), operation time (OT), resected tissue weight (RTW), gland resection ratio (GRR), postoperative indwelling ureter time (IUT), bladder fistula time (BFT) and hospital stay time (HST), preoperative and postoperative serum sodium concentration (SSC), hemoglobin concentration (HGB), prostate weight (PW), postvoid residual (PVR), maximum urinary flow rate (Qmax), international prostate symptom score (IPSS), quality of life (QOL), International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF), and other complications were analyzed and compared respectively. Results: There was no statistical difference in preoperative IPSS, preoperative QOL score, preoperative PVR, preoperative Qmax, postoperative QOL score, postoperative PVR, postoperative Qmax, IPSS difference value (DV), Qmax DV, and PVR DV between the PKEP group and the TURP group (p > 0.05). OT, BL, IUT, BFT, HST, and postoperative IPSS in the PKEP group were significantly lower than that in the TURP group (p < 0.01). RTW and GRR in the PKEP group were significantly higher than that in the TURP group (p < 0.01). QOL DV in the PKEP group was higher than that in the TURP group (p < 0.05). There was statistical difference in SSC DV between the PKEP group and the TURP group (p < 0.05). There was significant statistical difference in postoperative PW, postoperative HGB, PW DV, and HGB DV between the PKEP group and the TURP group (p < 0.01). There was significant statistical difference in IPSS, QOL, PVR, and Qmax between postoperative value and preoperative value in both groups (p < 0.01). The incidence of transurethral resection syndrome, obturator nerve reflex, transient urinary incontinence, and retrograde ejaculation between the PKEP group and the TURP group has no statistical difference (p > 0.05). Capsule perforation, blood transfusion, secondary hemorrhage, bladder neck contracture, and urethral stricture in the PKEP group were lower than that in the TURP group (p < 0.05). Bladder spasm in the PKEP group was significantly lower than that in the TURP group (p < 0.01). There was no statistical difference in preoperative and postoperative IIEF-5, effective erectile frequency, telotism average tension, sustainable telotism average time, and sexual dissatisfaction between the PKEP group and the TURP group (p > 0.05). Conclusions: PKEP and TURP have similar clinical efficacy in the treatment of massive BPH. Central Asia (CA) is one of the major sources of global dust aerosols. They pose a serious threat to regional climate change and environmental health and also make a significant contribution to the global dust load. However, there is still a gap in our understanding of dust transport in this region. Therefore, this study utilizes Cloud–Aerosol LiDAR with Orthogonal Polarization (CALIOP) data from 2007 to 2022 to depict the three-dimensional spatiotemporal distribution of dust aerosols over CA and to analyze their transport processes. In addition, the Tropospheric Monitoring Instrument (TROPOMI) was employed to assist in monitoring the movement of typical dust events, and the trajectory model was utilized to simulate the forward and backward trajectories of a dust incident. Additionally, a random forest (RF) model was employed to rank the contributions of various environmental factors. The findings demonstrate that high extinction values (0.6 km−1) are mostly concentrated within the Tarim Basin of Xinjiang, China, maintaining high values up to 2 km in altitude, with a noticeable decrease as the altitude increases. The frequency of dust occurrences is especially pronounced in the spring and summer seasons, with dust frequencies in the Tarim Basin and the Karakum and Kyzylkum deserts exceeding 80%, indicating significant seasonal and regional differences. The high values of dust optical depth (DOD) in CA are primarily concentrated in the summer, concurrent with the presence of a stable aerosol layer of dust in the atmosphere with a thickness of 0.62 km. Furthermore, dust from CA can traverse the Tianshan mountains via the westerlies, transporting it eastward. Additionally, skin temperature can mitigate regional air pollution. Our results contribute to a deeper understanding of the dynamic processes of dust in CA and provide scientific support for the development of regional climate regulation strategies. Central Asia (CA) is an arid region sensitive to climate change, and with the increase in drought events due to global warming, droughts are posing more severe threats to the vegetation in CA. However, the response of vegetation in CA to the cumulative and time-lag effects of prolonged drought remains unclear. This has limited our understanding of the mechanisms by which vegetation responds to meteorological drought in arid regions. To clarify the response of vegetation to drought in CA, this study analyzed the effects of drought and meteorological factors on vegetation growth dynamics. The extent of vegetation response to the cumulative and time-lag effects from 2001 to 2020 was evaluated using three satellite-derived vegetation indices (NDVI, EVI, NIRv) and the solar-induced chlorophyll fluorescence (SIF) and standardized precipitation evapotranspiration index (SPEI). We used the Copula-Bayes conditional probability method to assess the drought thresholds for vegetation under two scenarios: mild and severe losses. The effects of soil moisture (SM) and vapor pressure deficit (VPD) on vegetation dynamics were analyzed based on an improved partial wavelet coherence (PWC). The results show that the average response time of vegetation to the cumulative and lagged effects of drought was mostly concentrated within 4–6 months, and the lagged effect was stronger than the cumulative effect. The vegetation response to drought is nonlinear along the precipitation gradient. The SPEI values for triggering mild vegetation loss (below the 40th percentile) drought threshold range from −0.7 to −1.0, while the SPEI values for triggering severe vegetation loss (below the 10th percentile) drought threshold range from −2.0 to −2.5. The SM was the main driver affecting vegetation dynamics. This study provides deeper insight into the response of vegetation to drought in the arid zone of CA, which will further provide theoretical support for addressing global climate change and extreme drought events. This study was conducted to investigate the influence of gallic acid (GA), the smallest molecular unit of tannic acid, on the performance of metakaolin (MK) mortars. GA was added directly as an admixture (Method I) or pre-mixed with MK (Method II) for bio-functionalization. Experimental results showed that GA improved the dispersion of MK by generating electrostatic repulsion and spatial site resistance between particles. The GA functionalization of MK by Method II displayed superior efficiencies in adjusting the fluidity of mortars owing to better dispersibility. The functionalization of MK by GA could enhance the pore filling effect resulting from the dispersed MK, and enable more products to be generated owing to the formation of GA ∼ Ca intermediates, contributing refined pore structure and increased compressive strength to mortars. Background and aims: Soil respiration (Rs) is expected to positively feedback to climate warming. The strength of this feedback is uncertain as numerous environmental factors, such as precipitation and soil moisture, can moderate the warming response of Rs. Methods: We combined seven-year Rs measurements in a warming experiment in the Tibetan alpine grassland with a meta-analysis on grassland warming experiments globally to investigate how precipitation and soil moisture influences the warming response of Rs. We further analyzed the warming responses of heterotrophic (Rh) and autotrophic (Ra) components of Rs. Results: Warming enhanced growing-season Rs in the wet years but decreased it in the dry years in the field experiment at the Tibetan grassland. Precipitation modulated the warming responses of growing-season Rs via Rh, but not Ra. Consistent with the field experiment, a positive relationship between precipitation and the warming response of growing-season Rs was also observed in the global-scale meta-analysis on grassland warming experiments. Conclusions: Precipitation influences the warming effects on Rs and could result in variation in warming response of Rs across years and experimental systems. This study proposes a green, low-cost, and robust method to synthesize spherical calcium hydroxide (CH) nanoparticles based on the co-precipitation of Ca2+ and OH− in the presence of tannic acid (TA), an inexpensive plant-derived polyphenol. It has been found that the morphology and crystalline phase of the produced CH nanoparticles can be controlled by TA. With the increasing dosage of TA, the crystallinity of the CH particles reduces, changing from well crystallization to amorphous phases. Experimental evidence suggests that complexion reaction took place between TA and Ca2+, which gave the Ca2+ a strong bond effect. As a result, the nucleation and growth of CH were significantly affected. CH nanoparticles with sizes of about 50 nm have been successfully synthesized by using 0.3% or more TA. Biotic mechanisms associated with species diversity are expected to stabilize communities in theoretical and experimental studies but may be difficult to detect in natural communities exposed to large environmental variation. We investigated biotic stability mechanisms in a multi-site study across Inner Mongolian grassland characterized by large spatial variations in species richness and composition and temporal fluctuations in precipitation. We used a new additive-partitioning method to separate species synchrony and population dynamics within communities into different species-abundance groups. Community stability was independent of species richness but was regulated by species synchrony and population dynamics, especially of abundant species. Precipitation fluctuations synchronized population dynamics within communities, reducing their stability. Our results indicate generality of biotic stability mechanisms in natural ecosystems and suggest that for accurate predictions of community stability in changing environments uneven species composition should be considered by partitioning stabilizing mechanisms into different species-abundance groups. Background: Some previous studies already explored associations between tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) polymorphisms and cervical cancer, with conflicting findings.Objectives: Here, we aimed to better analyze the relationship between TNF-α polymorphisms and cervical cancer in a larger combined population by performing a meta-analysis.Methods: We searched PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and CNKI for related articles. TNF-α -308 G/A (dominant comparison: p = 0.0004, OR 0.71, 95% CI 0.58-0.86; recessive comparison: p = 0.0002, OR 1.46, 95% CI 1.19-1.79; overdominant comparison: p = 0.002, OR 1.37, 95% CI 1.12-1.68; allele comparison: p < 0.0001, OR 0.72, 95% CI 0.62-0.83) polymorphism was found to be significantly associated with cervical cancer in general population. Subgroup analyses showed similar positive findings for -308 G/A polymorphism in both Asians and Caucasians. Moreover, we found that -238 G/A polymorphism was also significantly associated with cervical cancer in Asians.Conclusions: This meta-analysis proved that TNF-α -238 and -308 G/A polymorphisms could be used to identity individual with elevated susceptibility to cervical cancer in certain populations. Paclitaxel is the most frequently used therapy regimen for triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). However, chemoresistance frequently occurs, leading to enhanced failure rates of chemotherapy in TNBC; therefore, novel biological therapies are urgently needed. Gambogic acid (GA) has potent anticancer effects and inhibits tumor growth in several types of human cancer. However, the effects of GA on paclitaxel-resistant TNBC remain unknown. In the present study, the Cell Counting Kit-8 assay was used to examine the effect of GA and/or paclitaxel on the viability of TNBC cells; flow cytometry was used to examine the effects of GA on cell apoptosis; and western blotting and reverse transcription-quantitative PCR were used to determine the effects of GA on the expression of sonic hedgehog (SHH) signaling pathway target genes. The present results indicated that GA significantly inhibited the viability and enhanced the rate of apoptosis in paclitaxel-resistant MDA-MB-231 cells via activating the SHH signaling pathway. In vivo experiments confirmed that GA treatment enhanced the sensitivity of MDA-MB-231 cells to paclitaxel via the SHH signaling pathway. In conclusion, the combination of GA with paclitaxel may increase the antitumor effects on paclitaxel-resistant TNBC via downregulating the SHH signaling pathway. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Two twisted π-conjugated cruciform luminophores MDCS-TPA and FMDCS-TPA containing two conjugated donor and acceptor groups intersecting at the central benzene core have been rationally designed and successfully prepared. The two compounds display unique intramolecular charge-transfer (ICT) process from electron-rich triphenylamine and electron-poor cyanostyryl units, which are evidenced by theoretical calculations and spectral analysis. MDCS-TPA and FMDCS-TPA exhibit AIE effects with high fluorescence quantum yields of 0.321 and 0.312 in the solid state. Interestingly, MDCS-TPA and FMDCS-TPA possess the distinct mechanofluorochromic (MFC) behavior. The as-prepared powders of the two luminophores could emit strong green (491 nm) and yellow-green fluorescence (529 nm), and the fluorescence color changed into yellow (542 nm) and orange (576 nm) after grinding, respectively, giving the red shifts of 51 nm and 47 nm. Such mechanochromism is reversible by repeating both the grinding-fuming and grinding-annealing processes. The MFC behavior of MDCS-TPA and FMDCS-TPA originates from the transition between the crystalline and amorphous states and the red-shifts induced by grinding is the result of the planarization of the molecular conformation and subsequent planar intramolecular charge transfer (PICT) under the external force stimuli. Background: To investigate the clinical effects of a unilateral external fixator combined with bone transport and tibio-talar fusion in the treatment of severe postoperative infection of peri-ankle fractures. Methods: The clinical data of 32 patients (22 men and 10 women) with severe postoperative infection of peri-ankle fractures were retrospectively analyzed. Patients' age ranged from 26 to 62 (mean, 42 ± 9.5) years old. The types of fractures were distal tibia fracture (25 cases), distal tibia and fibula fracture (5 cases), and talus fracture (2 cases). All patients underwent treatment with unilateral external fixation combined with bone transport and tibio-talar fusion. 6 patients with severe infection received two-stage treatment involving focal debridement and external fixation, osteotomy, and bone transport. The remaining 26 patients underwent debridement, external fixation, and osteotomy simultaneously. The length of bone transport, total fixation time of the external fixator, and postoperative complications were recorded for all patients. The efficacy of the treatment was assessed using the American Association of Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) ankle–hindfoot score. Results: Patients were followed up for 16–36 months, with an average follow-up time of 24 months. The length of tibia bone transport ranged from 5 to 15 cm, with a mean length of 8.5 cm. The external fixator was applied for 12–24 months, with an average duration of 16 months. One patient suffered from refracture at tibio-talar fusion site, and one patient had external fixation pin-tract infection. No complications, such as recurrent infections (especially the MRSA infection), poor mineralization, refracture, iatrogenic nerve damage or fusion failure, were found in the remaining patients. The preoperative AOFAS ankle–hindfoot function score was 40.0 ± 3.8 (range, 30–52) points, and it increased to 75.0 ± 3.0 (range, 67–78) points at the last follow-up. Conclusion: A unilateral external fixator combined with bone transport and tibio-talar fusion is an effective method for treating severe postoperative infection of peri-ankle fractures. This approach is capable of reconstructing large bone defects that remain after clearing the infected lesion. • A new multilayer energy absorbing panel was developed. • Impact tests were conducted on the energy absorbing panel. • The failure mode, impact force, displacement and energy absorption were studied. • An analytical model was proposed to predict the displacement response. A novel steel-polyurethane foam-concrete-tube multilayer energy absorbing panel (SFCTMEAP) was proposed in this paper, and it could be attached to the surface of the protected structure to mitigate impact loading. The impact tests on the SFCTMEAP were performed via using a drop-weight impact test machine. The investigated parameters in the impact tests included the thickness of concrete core as well as thickness and width of the steel tube. All tested specimens exhibited a combined failure mode, consisting of the local indentation of energy absorbing panel and the collapse of polyurethane foam-filled steel tubes. The energy absorbing performance of SFCTMEAP under impact loading was discussed in detail. Additionally, a three-degree-of-freedom model was proposed to obtain the displacement response of the SFCTMEAP, and the analytically-calculated displacement–time histories agreed well with the experimental results. Papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) and medullary thyroid cancer (MTC) originate from follicular and neuroendocrine parafollicular C cells, respectively. PTC and MTC simultaneously exist in tumors containing both MTC and PTC features in a rare condition known as mixed medullary-follicular thyroid carcinoma (MMFTC). In the present study, a 60-year-old female presented with a small mass on the left side of the neck. Ultrasonography indicated a hyperechoic nodule measuring ~11.9×9.7 mm2 in the left lobe of the thyroid gland. The preoperative calcitonin serum value was elevated and total thyroidectomy and bilateral central compartment lymph node dissection was performed. Histological and immunohistochemical analysis of the tumor demonstrated MMFTC. No metastasis was observed in lymph nodes isolated from the bilateral central compartment. A new steel–concrete-steel sandwich panel with energy absorbing supports (SSP-EAS) was firstly proposed, and its dynamic responses under impact loading were investigated through conducting impact tests and numerical simulations. Three types of impact response modes of SSP-EASs were categorized according to the different crushing magnitudes of energy absorbing supports (EASs). In addition, the steel–concrete-steel sandwich panel (SSP) exhibited the combination of the global flexural deformation, local indentation and local bulging during the impact. The EAS could effectively absorb impact energy through the plastic bending of steel plates and the crushing of aluminum foam blocks, except for the response mode I with insignificant crushing of EASs. Moreover, the effects of crushing force of EASs and initial impact momentum on the dynamic responses of SSP-EAS were numerically analyzed. The impact resistance of the SSP-EAS could be improved through properly designing the EAS and assuring its maximum displacement slightly smaller than the compaction displacement during impact. In addition, the crushing force of EAS should not exceed the ultimate resistance of the SSP to assure the EAS being triggered to crush. • The combination of MgO and fly ash effectively solidifies salt-bearing clay in areas subjected to seasonal freeze–thaw cycles. • The substitution of conventional solidifying materials with fly ash constitutes a sustainable and ecologically responsible approach to consolidating clay soils. • The cementation of soil particles is efficiently accomplished by the carbonate compounds generated from magnesium and calcium. This paper presents an innovative method for improving the strength of salt-bearing clay under freeze–thaw cycles. The active magnesium oxide (MgO) and industrial waste fly ash were employed as primary solidifying materials in the seasonal freezing soil reinforcement process, and the reinforcement effect is achieved through carbonate crystals generated through carbonization tests. The solidification effect was investigated with varying ratios of solidifying materials, salt content, and freeze–thaw cycles. The experiment results revealed that the combination of active MgO and fly ash effectively enhances the strength of salt-bearing clay. Specifically, compared to unsolidified soil, the soil solidified with 8 % active MgO (8M0F) and a combination of 4 % active MgO and 4 % fly ash (4M4F) demonstrated a significant increase in ultimate strength by 14 and 12 times, respectively. Moreover, the number of freeze–thaw cycles exhibited a negative correlation with ultimate strength, whereas the salt content demonstrated a similar negative correlation. Microscopic analysis revealed that the 8M0F sample produced mainly magnesium carbonates and hydrogen and oxygen compounds, whereas the 4M4F sample generated primarily magnesium and calcium carbonates. The resulting compound crystals efficiently filled the internal pores and cemented the soil particles, leading to a substantial increase in strength. Overall, these results indicate that the active MgO combined with fly ash solidifying method can offer a viable and sustainable solution for improving the strength of salt-bearing clay in areas with seasonal freeze–thaw cycles. The steel–concrete–steel (SCS) sandwich structures are increasingly adopted to improve the impact resistance of the buildings or infrastructures owing to their good structural performances. Recently, the SCS sandwich beams with interlocked angle connectors (SCSSB-IACs) have been developed, and their performances under impact loading have been experimentally studied. This paper presents detailed numerical analyses of the SCSSB-IACs subjected to impact loading and reveals its response mechanisms. The Finite Element (FE) models of the SCSSB-IACs were established using LS-DYNA, and the FE predictions showed a good agreement with the impact test data. The impact process as well as distribution and evolution of bending moment and shear force, stress and strain were discussed. Furthermore, the internal energy histories of the SCSSB-IACs were revealed by FE analyses. Numerical results indicated that the majority of impact energy was absorbed by the concrete and bottom faceplate, and the deformation of the SCSSB-IACs was dominated by a flexural manner. Abstract This study experimentally investigated pool boiling heat transfer performance on horizontal copper tubes with refrigerant R134a. Experiments were conducted at saturation temperature of 5.6℃, while heat flux varied from 5 to 65 kW/m2 with an interval of 5 kW/m2. A plain tube and a reentrant cavity tube (enhanced tube) were tested. The nominal outside diameter of test tube was 25.14 mm and the length in test section was 1000 mm. Tubes were water heated by 15% volume faction water-ethylene glycol mixture with an insert bar in the fluid passage. The experimental data of the plain tube were compared against the Cooper correlation with deviation of −3% to −10%. The boiling heat transfer coefficient of the enhanced tube increased with the increasing heat flux in the experimental range. The heat transfer enhancement factor, the ratio of boiling Nusselt number for enhanced tube to that for plain tube, varied from 1.66 to 2.64 and reached the maximum at Re o = 0.38(heat flux q = 20 kW/m2). Long-span reticulated dome is often considered as a landmark building of a region, so it is very important to investigate the dynamic response and propose the damage assessment method of reticulated dome under blast loading. In this article, a fine finite element model of Kiewitt8 (K8) single-layer reticulated dome was established by using ANSYS/LS-DYNA. The effects of standoff distance, charge weight, rise–span ratio, span, and roof weight on the responses of K8 single-layer reticulated dome were numerically studied. The results showed that the blast-resistant performance of reticulated dome with smaller rise–span ratio and larger span under exterior blast load was more advantageous. Although the blast-resistant capacity of reticulated dome with large span and large roof weight was favorable, the plastic deformations of reticulated dome members were small and the utilization of material was low at failure state. According to the dynamic response characteristics of plentiful K8 single-layer reticulated domes at different damage levels, a damage model of K8 single-layer reticulated dome under exterior blast load was proposed in this article to indicate the damage level and determine the ultimate strength. Besides, a new damage criterion for K8 reticulated dome was also defined. This damage model was defined based on the physical phenomena at different damage levels, which made the strength failure criterion had definite physical meaning. Using the proposed damage criterion and a new search algorithm for pressure and impulse, the pressure–impulse diagrams for the typical K8 reticulated dome were derived from the numerical simulations to evaluate the damage level of reticulated dome under blast loading. Abstract Steel-concrete-steel (SCS) sandwich shells, which are combined with steel plates, concrete core and shear connectors, are usually applied as protective structures in the civil engineering. In this paper, nine curved SCS sandwich shells subjected to concentrated load by a hemi-spherical head were tested to obtain the failure characteristic, ultimate strength and load–displacement response. The finite element (FE) models of curved SCS sandwich shells were also established by using LS-DYNA. The accuracies of the FE models were verified by comparing the load–displacement curves, local and global deformation between the experimental results and FE predictions. The factors influencing the ultimate strength and deformation behavior of curved SCS sandwich shells were analysed, including concrete core and steel plate thickness, top to bottom steel plate thickness ratio and spacing of shear connectors. Through experiments and numerical simulations, three failure modes could be summarized. It was also found that increasing concrete core and top steel plate thickness and reducing the spacing of shear connectors could increase yield strength and ultimate strength of curved SCS sandwich shell. The increase of concrete core and steel plate thickness also led to higher energy absorption capacity; whereas, the spacing of shear connectors showed little effect on energy absorption capacity. Abstract In this paper, a combination active thermography and three-dimensional (3D) structural optical imaging is reported on the nondestructive inspection of curved clad composites with subsurface defects. Artificial points are marked on the background of test objective and helpful to obtain the mapping matrix from two-dimensional (2D) thermal wave characteristic imaging data to 3D spatial coordinate's digital model. The 3D digital model is transformed into a new coordinate system and then reprojected onto the thermal-wave feature image exactly. The fusion of 2D thermal-wave characteristic data and the 3D digital model is achieved by bilinear interpolation. Specimens of carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) skin-honeycomb sandwich (CFRP-SHS) and High silicon oxygen phenolic resin (HSOPR) sheet with artificial defects are prepared for the experimental investigation. Experimental results indicate that the proposed method can reliably inspect the defects and accurately locate defect positions on the curved surface of CFRP-SHS and HSOPR laminate test sample, and it has a significantly potential for the use of aerospace and aircraft manufacturing and application. 3D structured Mn2O3 with flower-like (Mn2O3-F), globe-like (Mn2O3-G) or rhombohedral (Mn2O3-R) morphologies were successfully synthesized by solvothermal method by controlling the amounts of Tween surfactant. These Mn2O3 oxides enhance the catalytic activity for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in direct methanol fuel cells (DMFCs) significantly, while PtRu/C works as the anode catalyst and polymer fiber membrane (PFM) functions as the electrolyte film. Mn2O3-G shows higher ORR catalytic activity than Mn2O3-F and Mn2O3-R. The maximum power density (Pmax) of Mn2O3-F-, Mn2O3-G- and Mn2O3-R-based DMFCs are 11.44, 21.03 and 10.22 mW cm−2 at room temperature, respectively. The influence of the Tween surfactant on the microstructure and ORR properties were also studied systematically. Compared with Mn2O3-F and Mn2O3-R, the Raman and XPS results indicate that Mn2O3-G has more oxygen vacancies, which can promote the electrical conductivity and act as an active center to absorb and store available O2 for stable ORR properties. In this paper, the drop-weight impact loading tests were conducted to study the dynamic crushing behaviors of the proposed energy absorption connectors with curved plate and aluminum foam as energy absorber. The dynamic collapse modes of the connectors were obtained from the tests and three deformation processes were identified. The effects of loading rate, filled aluminum foam, curved plate thickness and radius on the energy absorption performances of the connectors were quantitatively evaluated, which showed that filling the connector with aluminum foam as well as increasing loading rate, curved plate thickness and radius generally led to increase of energy absorption capacity of the connector. Besides the experimental works, the numerical and analytical models were also developed to predict the force–displacement responses of the connectors and the accuracies of the two models were validated against the test results.
