Amyloid beta, an intrinsically disordered protein, plays a seemingly important but not well-understood role in neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's disease. A key feature of amyloid beta, which could lead to potential therapeutic intervention pathways, is its binding affinity to certain metal centers, like iron and copper. Numerically calculating such binding affinities is a computationally challenging task, involving strongly correlated metal centers. A key bottleneck in understanding the binding affinity is obtaining estimates of the ground state energy. Quantum computers have the potential to accelerate such calculations but it is important to understand the quantum resources required. In this work, we detail a computational workflow for binding affinity calculations for amyloid beta utilizing quantum algorithms, providing estimated quantum resources required, at both the logical and hardware level.

Quantum computing is one of the most enticing computational paradigms with the potential to revolutionize diverse areas of future-generation computational systems. While quantum computing hardware has advanced rapidly, from tiny laboratory experiments to quantum chips that can outperform even the largest supercomputers on specialized computational tasks, these noisy-intermediate scale quantum (NISQ) processors are still too small and non-robust to be directly useful for any real-world applications. In this paper, we describe NASA's work in assessing and advancing the potential of quantum computing. We discuss advances in algorithms, both near- and longer-term, and the results of our explorations on current hardware as well as with simulations, including illustrating the benefits of algorithm-hardware co-design in the NISQ era. This work also includes physics-inspired classical algorithms that can be used at application scale today. We discuss innovative tools supporting the assessment and advancement of quantum computing and describe improved methods for simulating quantum systems of various types on high-performance computing systems that incorporate realistic error models. We provide an overview of recent methods for benchmarking, evaluating, and characterizing quantum hardware for error mitigation, as well as insights into fundamental quantum physics that can be harnessed for computational purposes., Comment: 27 pages, 0 figures

Recent advances in Multi-Object Tracking (MOT) have achieved remarkable success in short-term association within the decoupled tracking-by-detection online paradigm. However, long-term tracking still remains a challenging task. Although graph-based approaches can address this issue by modeling trajectories as a graph in the decoupled manner, their non-online nature poses obstacles for real-time applications. In this paper, we demonstrate that the trajectory graph is a directed acyclic graph, which can be represented by an object sequence arranged by frame and a binary adjacency matrix. It is a coincidence that the binary matrix matches the attention mask in the Transformer, and the object sequence serves exactly as a natural input sequence. Intuitively, we propose that a pure Transformer can naturally unify short- and long-term associations in a decoupled and online manner. Our experiments show that a classic Transformer architecture naturally suits the association problem and achieves a strong baseline compared to existing foundational methods across four datasets: DanceTrack, SportsMOT, MOT17, and MOT20, as well as superior generalizability in domain shift. Moreover, the decoupled property also enables efficient training and inference. Semantic location prediction aims to derive meaningful location insights from multimodal social media posts, offering a more contextual understanding of daily activities than using GPS coordinates. This task faces significant challenges due to the noise and modality heterogeneity in "text-image" posts. Existing methods are generally constrained by inadequate feature representations and modal interaction, struggling to effectively reduce noise and modality heterogeneity. To address these challenges, we propose a Similarity-Guided Multimodal Fusion Transformer (SG-MFT) for predicting the semantic locations of users from their multimodal posts. First, we incorporate high-quality text and image representations by utilizing a pre-trained large vision-language model. Then, we devise a Similarity-Guided Interaction Module (SIM) to alleviate modality heterogeneity and noise interference by incorporating both coarse-grained and fine-grained similarity guidance for improving modality interactions. Specifically, we propose a novel similarity-aware feature interpolation attention mechanism at the coarse-grained level, leveraging modality-wise similarity to mitigate heterogeneity and reduce noise within each modality. At the fine-grained level, we utilize a similarity-aware feed-forward block and element-wise similarity to further address the issue of modality heterogeneity. Finally, building upon pre-processed features with minimal noise and modal interference, we devise a Similarity-aware Fusion Module (SFM) to fuse two modalities with a cross-attention mechanism. Comprehensive experimental results clearly demonstrate the superior performance of our proposed method.

Object detection, a quintessential task in the realm of perceptual computing, can be tackled using a generative methodology. In the present study, we introduce a novel framework designed to articulate object detection as a denoising diffusion process, which operates on the perturbed bounding boxes of annotated entities. This framework, termed ConsistencyDet, leverages an innovative denoising concept known as the Consistency Model. The hallmark of this model is its self-consistency feature, which empowers the model to map distorted information from any temporal stage back to its pristine state, thereby realizing a "one-step denoising" mechanism. Such an attribute markedly elevates the operational efficiency of the model, setting it apart from the conventional Diffusion Model. Throughout the training phase, ConsistencyDet initiates the diffusion sequence with noise-infused boxes derived from the ground-truth annotations and conditions the model to perform the denoising task. Subsequently, in the inference stage, the model employs a denoising sampling strategy that commences with bounding boxes randomly sampled from a normal distribution. Through iterative refinement, the model transforms an assortment of arbitrarily generated boxes into definitive detections. Comprehensive evaluations employing standard benchmarks, such as MS-COCO and LVIS, corroborate that ConsistencyDet surpasses other leading-edge detectors in performance metrics. Theoretically understanding and experimentally characterizing and modifying the underlying Hamiltonian of a quantum system is of utmost importance in achieving high-fidelity quantum gates for quantum computing. In this work, we explore the use of dynamical decoupling (DD) in characterizing undesired two-qubit couplings as well as the underlying single-qubit decoherence, and in suppressing them. We develop a syncopated dynamical decoupling technique which protects against decoherence and selectively targets unwanted two-qubit interactions, overcoming both significant hurdles to achieving precise quantum control and realizing quantum computing on many hardware prototypes. On a transmon-qubit-based superconducting quantum device, we identify separate white and $1/f$ noise components underlying the single-qubit decoherence and a static ZZ coupling between pairs of qubits. We suppress these errors using syncopated dynamical decoupling in two-qubit benchmarking experiments and significantly boost performance in a realistic algorithmic quantum circuit.

In this paper, we introduce Uni3D-LLM, a unified framework that leverages a Large Language Model (LLM) to integrate tasks of 3D perception, generation, and editing within point cloud scenes. This framework empowers users to effortlessly generate and modify objects at specified locations within a scene, guided by the versatility of natural language descriptions. Uni3D-LLM harnesses the expressive power of natural language to allow for precise command over the generation and editing of 3D objects, thereby significantly enhancing operational flexibility and controllability. By mapping point cloud into the unified representation space, Uni3D-LLM achieves cross-application functionality, enabling the seamless execution of a wide array of tasks, ranging from the accurate instantiation of 3D objects to the diverse requirements of interactive design. Through a comprehensive suite of rigorous experiments, the efficacy of Uni3D-LLM in the comprehension, generation, and editing of point cloud has been validated. Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) have become a ubiquitous technology for data generation, with their prowess in image generation being well-established. However, their application in generating tabular data has been less than ideal. Furthermore, attempting to incorporate differential privacy technology into these frameworks has often resulted in a degradation of data utility. To tackle these challenges, this paper introduces DP-SACTGAN, a novel Conditional Generative Adversarial Network (CGAN) framework for differentially private tabular data generation, aiming to surmount these obstacles. Experimental findings demonstrate that DP-SACTGAN not only accurately models the distribution of the original data but also effectively satisfies the requirements of differential privacy.

We analyze the decoherence between two ground electronic states of an optically trapped atom by adopting a full description of the atomic wavefunction. The motional state, i.e., the phonon state, is taken into account. In addition to the decoherence due to the variance of differential light shift (DLS), a new decoherence mechanism, phonon-jumping-induced decoherence (PJID), is discovered and verified experimentally. A coherence time of $T_2\approx 20$ s is then obtained for a single Cs atom by suppressing both variances of DLS and PJID by trapping the atom in a blue-detuned BBT and preparing the atom into its three-dimensional motional ground states. In this work, we present a new visual prompting method called 3DAxiesPrompts (3DAP) to unleash the capabilities of GPT-4V in performing 3D spatial tasks. Our investigation reveals that while GPT-4V exhibits proficiency in discerning the position and interrelations of 2D entities through current visual prompting techniques, its abilities in handling 3D spatial tasks have yet to be explored. In our approach, we create a 3D coordinate system tailored to 3D imagery, complete with annotated scale information. By presenting images infused with the 3DAP visual prompt as inputs, we empower GPT-4V to ascertain the spatial positioning information of the given 3D target image with a high degree of precision. Through experiments, We identified three tasks that could be stably completed using the 3DAP method, namely, 2D to 3D Point Reconstruction, 2D to 3D point matching, and 3D Object Detection. We perform experiments on our proposed dataset 3DAP-Data, the results from these experiments validate the efficacy of 3DAP-enhanced GPT-4V inputs, marking a significant stride in 3D spatial task execution.

We developed a resolved Raman sideband cooling scheme that can efficiently prepare a single optically trapped cesium (Cs) atom in its motional ground states. A two-photon Raman process between two outermost Zeeman sublevels in a single hyperfine state is applied to reduce the phonon number. Our scheme is less sensitive to the variation in the magnetic field than the commonly used scheme where the two outermost Zeeman sublevels belonging to the two separate ground hyperfine states are taken. Fast optical pumping with less spontaneous emission guarantees the efficiency of the cooling process. After cooling for 50 ms, 82% of the Cs atoms populate their three-dimensional ground states. Our scheme improves the long-term stability of Raman sideband cooling in the presence of magnetic field drift and is thus suitable for cooling other trapped atoms or ions with abundant magnetic sublevels., Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures, 1 table

In this work, we build a modular-designed codebase, formulate strong training recipes, design an error diagnosis toolbox, and discuss current methods for image-based 3D object detection. In particular, different from other highly mature tasks, e.g., 2D object detection, the community of image-based 3D object detection is still evolving, where methods often adopt different training recipes and tricks resulting in unfair evaluations and comparisons. What is worse, these tricks may overwhelm their proposed designs in performance, even leading to wrong conclusions. To address this issue, we build a module-designed codebase and formulate unified training standards for the community. Furthermore, we also design an error diagnosis toolbox to measure the detailed characterization of detection models. Using these tools, we analyze current methods in-depth under varying settings and provide discussions for some open questions, e.g., discrepancies in conclusions on KITTI-3D and nuScenes datasets, which have led to different dominant methods for these datasets. We develop a hardware-efficient ansatz for variational optimization, derived from existing ansatze in the literature, that parametrizes subsets of all interactions in the Cost Hamiltonian in each layer. We treat gate orderings as a variational parameter and observe that doing so can provide significant performance boosts in experiments. We carried out experimental runs of a compilation-optimized implementation of fully-connected Sherrington-Kirkpatrick Hamiltonians on a 50-qubit linear-chain subsystem of Rigetti Aspen-M-3 transmon processor. Our results indicate that, for the best circuit designs tested, the average performance at optimized angles and gate orderings increases with circuit depth (using more parameters), despite the presence of a high level of noise. We report performance significantly better than using a random guess oracle for circuits involving up to approx 5000 two-qubit and approx 5000 one-qubit native gates. In this paper, a dynamic dual-graph fusion convolutional network is proposed to improve Alzheimer's disease (AD) diagnosis performance. The following are the paper's main contributions: (a) propose a novel dynamic GCN architecture, which is an end-to-end pipeline for diagnosis of the AD task; (b) the proposed architecture can dynamically adjust the graph structure for GCN to produce better diagnosis outcomes by learning the optimal underlying latent graph; (c) incorporate feature graph learning and dynamic graph learning, giving those useful features of subjects more weight while decreasing the weights of other noise features. Combinatorial optimization is a broadly attractive area for potential quantum advantage, but no quantum algorithm has yet made the leap. Noise in quantum hardware remains a challenge, and more sophisticated quantum-classical algorithms are required to bolster their performance. Here, we introduce an iterative quantum heuristic optimization algorithm to solve combinatorial optimization problems. The quantum algorithm reduces to a classical greedy algorithm in the presence of strong noise. We implement the quantum algorithm on a programmable superconducting quantum system using up to 72 qubits for solving paradigmatic Sherrington-Kirkpatrick Ising spin glass problems. We find the quantum algorithm systematically outperforms its classical greedy counterpart, signaling a quantum enhancement. Moreover, we observe an absolute performance comparable with a state-of-the-art semidefinite programming method.
