Abstract

The article presents a study that deals with the impact of the heatwave on vineyards in 10 regions across south-eastern Australia. The study was made after a severe heatwave struck the regions in late January and early February 2009. The article offers descriptions of the results, comparison of the observed impact of the heatwave, and the management responses made by the growers.

Abstract

The article presents the findings of a study which investigated the responses of vineyards in many different winegrowing regions in Australia following their exposure to both varying intensity and duration of extreme heat when the country experienced the occurrence of heatwaves in 2009. It compared the damage to berries across the regions. It outlines the vineyard variables which influenced the levels of damage, including water application and orientation of the vineyards. It relates the impact of growing grapes on trellises on the damage due to heat.
