Purpose: Given the potential role of light and its wavelength on ocular growth, this study investigated the effect of short‐term exposure to red, cyan and blue light on ocular biometry in humans. Methods: Forty‐four young adults and 20 children, comprising emmetropes and myopes, underwent 2‐h sessions of cyan (507 nm), red (638 nm) and broadband white light on three separate days via light‐emitting glasses. Additionally, young adults were exposed to blue light (454 nm) on an additional day. Axial length (AL) and choroidal thickness (CT) were measured in the right eye before the light exposure (0 min), after 60 and 120 min of exposure and 30 min after light offset using an optical biometer and optical coherence tomographer, respectively. Results: Compared to broadband light, exposure to red light resulted in a significant increase in AL (mean difference between white and red light at 120 min, +0.007 mm [0.002]), but no significant change in CT, while cyan light caused a significant AL reduction (−0.010 mm [0.003]) and choroidal thickening (+0.008 mm [0.002]) in young adults (p < 0.05). Blue light caused a significant decrease of −0.007 mm (0.002) in young adult eyes at 60 min (p < 0.05). In children, cyan light led to a significant reduction in AL (−0.016 mm [0.004]) and strong sustained choroidal thickening (+0.014 mm [0.004]) compared to broadband light at 120 min (p < 0.05). The effects of cyan light on AL and CT were found to be stronger in myopic young adults and emmetropic children. The opposing effects of red and cyan light on ocular biometry were similar between the two age groups (p > 0.05). Conclusions: Exposure to cyan light resulted in AL reduction and choroidal thickening in both young adults and children. Surface morphology plays a crucial role in friction between two contacting geomaterial surfaces, yet many questions remain unanswered regarding how detailed frictional responses deviate from analytical solutions for smooth surfaces due to the presence of roughness. In this study, we revisit the Cattaneo‐Mindlin problem for contacts between two fractally rough elastic or elasto‐plastic spheres generated based on ultra‐high degree (e.g., up to 2,000) spherical harmonics with the corresponding wavelength less than a thousandth of the mean grain diameter. Transverse contacts are simulated by finite element method, validated by the extended Cattaneo‐Mindlin solution to full slide regime for smooth sphere contacts. Extensive simulations are conducted to study contacts between two rough spheres with various surface geometries, micro friction coefficients, normal contact distances, relative roughness, fractal dimensions, and wavelength ranges. Out results indicate that: (a) the new analytical solution can approximately predict the macro contact response except for extremely high relative roughness and narrow wavelength range; (b) deviations induced by roughness from smooth sphere contacts can be neutralized by plasticity, high normal contact interference, and high micro friction coefficient; and (c) fractal dimension impacts frictional contacts less than relative roughness. The main cause of these phenomena can be credited to the underlying microscale contact information. Contact area and stress distributions and their evolutions provide concrete evidence of these observed behavior. This work provides a pathway for applying computational contact mechanics to many geophysical fields, such as the asperity model in earthquake science and the mechanics of granular materials. Plain Language Summary: Geophysical bodies, such as faults, rocks, and grains, exhibit surface roughness across length scales. Contacts between rough surfaces are usually simplified to a rough‐to‐flat contact scenario. To release these strong assumptions, for the first time, extensive finite element simulations are conducted for transverse contacts between two rough grains. Particularly, grain roughness is controlled by ultra‐high degree spherical harmonics, which enables depicting surfaces of diverse grains from silica sands up to asteroids. Our results highlight the importance of surface features in frictional contacts, and indicate that the effects of roughness can be alleviated by the plasticity, contact conditions, and high intrinsic friction coefficient. Furthermore, fractality, quantifying how much the surface fluctuates over length scales, impacts frictional contacts less than roughness amplitude. This study provides a pathway for applying computational contact mechanics to many geophysical applications involving frictional contacts, such as asperity models in earthquake science and mechanics of granular materials. To optimize the working efficiency of the novel UV-LED system based on TiO2 photocatalyst, the influence mechanism of LED lamp arrangement, light source wavelength and working voltage on photocatalytic efficiency was investigated. Acid red 26 (AR 26), acetaminophen (ACT) and diclofenac (DCF) were used as contaminant targets of the photocatalytic system. LED lamp arrangement had almost no effect on the degradation of AR26. However, the degradation efficiency of ACT and DCF was improved under a higher light uniformity. The ACT concentration and DCF concentration at 360 min decreased by 14% and 15%, respectively, with increasing light distribution from 45% to 66.5%. The main reason for this discrepancy in effect was whether the rate-determining step of the degradation mechanism was affected by the light uniformity. The short wavelength and high working voltage of LEDs were conducive to the photocatalytic degradation of contaminants to a different degree. When the wavelength was reduced from 405nm to 365nm, the conversion of AR26, ACT, and DCF increased by 77%, 227%, and 106%, respectively. The conversion rates of AR26, ACT, and DCF increased by 28%, 54%, and 32%, respectively, with voltage increasing from 3 V to 4 V. Breast cancer remains a significant global health challenge, spurring ongoing investigations into innovative treatment approaches. Low-level laser therapy (LLLT) has emerged as a promising non-invasive therapeutic avenue of interest. This research delves into the impact of LLLT on the cytotoxicity of the MCF-7 breast cancer cell line, employing lasers emitting various wavelengths. The objective is to assess whether diverse LLLT wavelengths elicit disparate cytotoxic responses, shedding light on LLLT's potential as a targeted breast cancer treatment. MCF-7 cell cultures were subjected to lasers of varying wavelengths, including blue (473 nm), red (660 nm), and near-infrared (780 nm). Each wavelength was delivered at four different power levels: 10, 25, 45, and 65 mW, with exposure durations of 60, 300, 600, and 900 s. Cellular responses, encompassing factors such as cell viability, and cytotoxicity were assessed using WST-1 assays technique. Statistical analysis was performed to discern the wavelength-specific impacts of low-level laser therapy (LLLT) on MCF-7 cells. The study revealed that the blue laser had the least noticeable adverse impact on MCF-7 breast cancer cell lines, leading to the highest cell survival rate of 107.62% after 24 h. The most severe toxicity occurred when the laser was used at 45 mW for 900 s, resulting in cell viability ranging from 81.85% to 107.62%. As for cell viability after exposure to the red laser, the mildest harmful effect was observed at 45 mW power for 60 s, resulting in a cell survival rate of 147.62%. Conversely, the most significant toxic response occurred at 10 mW power for 60 s, resulting in a cell viability of 91.56%. In contrast, when employing infrared laser irradiation, the least substantial cytotoxic effect on MCF-7 cells was observed at 10 mW power for 600 s, resulting in the highest cell viability of 109.37% after 24 h. This clinical study assessed photobiomodulation (PBM) induced analgesic effects of diode lasers and an LED light source on the dental pulp. Baseline responses to electric pulp testing (EPT) were recorded in 93 healthy unrestored premolar teeth in 26 adults (age range 22–63 years) attending a private dental practice. The teeth were irradiated on buccal and lingual aspects of the crown, by placing the tips on the middle third of the crown of the teeth, on separate days for each of 4 different light sources (660, 808, or 904 nm diode lasers, or a novel multi-wavelength LED light source (700–1100 nm)) using comparable parameters (100 mW, 30 s, 6 J). EPT scores were measured after a further 1-, 2-, 5- and 20-min. Discomfort caused by PBM therapy was recorded using the Wong-Baker scale. EPT changes were tracked over time using repeated measures analysis of variance. Baseline EPT scores were very consistent between different days (linear regression r2 0.9422–0.9648). All PBM devices caused a significant elevation in EPT at 5 min, with an earlier onset at 2 mins for 904 nm and LED. The LED was the only light source that elevated scores at 20 min. Across 2–20 min, when ranked by effectiveness, the greatest EPT elevations were seen for LED, followed by 904 nm, then 660 nm and finally 808 nm. Discomfort during PBM was most common with 904 nm, followed by 808 nm. No discomfort occurred from the LED. Among the light sources utilized, the LED multi-wavelength system demonstrated the largest increase in EPT readings, suggesting its potential as a non-pharmacological alternative for achieving dental analgesia compared to diode lasers. Introduction This study investigated the influence of stimulus color wavelength on cognitive performance in a virtual reality (VR) Go/No-Go task by assessing participant's reaction time and accuracy. Previous research has indicated that color has a variety of cognitive, physiological, and behavioral effects on individuals, differentiating their performance. However, there is a gap in understanding the influence of color on performance on VR cognitive tasks. An understanding of how stimulus color wavelength influences human performance could enhance the control over the design and interpretation of assessment and training outcomes in VR. Materials and Methods Participants (n  = 99, 57 males, aged 18 to 33 years) were recruited from the University of Houston and surrounding areas. Participants completed a VR-based Go/No-Go task. In this task, participants were instructed to strike 3D shape stimuli only if they matched the color of one of 2 virtual sabers that participants hand in their hands in VR ("Go" trials). If neither virtual saber matched the presented shape color ("No-Go" trials), participants were instructed not to respond. Stimulus colors could be violet (407 nm), blue (478 nm), green (507 nm), yellow (612 nm), and red (679 nm). Participants' reaction times and accuracy were recorded. The study design and procedures were approved by the University of Houston's Institutional Review Board. Results Stimulus color wavelength had a significant influence on accuracy during the Go/No-Go saber color match condition task. In both Go and No-Go trials, longer wavelengths were associated with reduced accuracy. However, no significant findings on wavelength and reaction time were present. These findings emphasize the impact of stimulus color on task performance. Conclusions Shorter color wavelengths were associated with higher accuracy in a VR Go/No-Go task. These findings support the importance of color selection in VR tasks and trainings, especially in scenarios that include decision-making and require accuracy. Realistic colors encountered in real-life military operations into VR training environments may better prepare individuals for real-world challenges. Purpose: The purpose of this research is to ascertain the feasibility of fabricating polymer optical fibers (POFs) based textile structures by knitting with Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) based optical fibers for textile sensor application. It has long been established that by using the principles of physics, POFs have the capability to function as sensors, detecting strain, temperature and other variables. However, POF applications such as strain and pressure sensing using knitting techniques has since not been very successful due to a number of reasons. Commercially available PMMA-based optical fibers tend to be fragile and susceptible to breakages when subjected to stress during the knitting processes. Also light transmitted within these fibers is prone to leakage due to the curvature that results when optical fibers are interlaced or interlooped within fabric structures. Design/methodology/approach: Using Stoll's multi-gauge CMS 350 HP knitting machine, five fabric structures namely, 1 × 4 float knit structure, tunnel inlay knit structure, 3:1 fleece fabric and 2:1 fleece fabric structure respectively were used to knit sensor samples. The samples were subsequently tested for length of illumination and sensitivity relative to applied pressure. Findings: The results of this preliminary study establish that embedding plastic optical fibers into a knitted structure during the fabric formation process for soft strain sensor application possible. The best illumination performance was recorded for tunnel inlay structure which had an average of 94 cm course length of POF being illuminated. Sensor sensitivity experiments also establish that the relative spectral intensity of the fiber is sensitive to both light and pressure. Problems encountered and recommendations for further research have also been discussed and proffered. Research limitations/implications: Due to resource limitations, an innovative technique (use of precision weight set) was used to apply pressure to the sensors. Consequently, information regarding the extent of corresponding sensor deformation has not been used in this initial analysis. Practical implications: Because the fundamental step toward finding a solution to any engineering problem is the acquisition of reliable data, and considering the fact that most of the popular technologies used for soft textile sensors are still bedeviled with the problem of signal instability and noise, the success of this application thus has the tendency to promote the wide spread adoption of POF sensors for smart apparel applications. Originality/value: As far as research on soft strain sensors is concerned, to the best of the authors' knowledge, this is the first study to have attempted to knit deformable sensors using commercially available POFs. This research explores Wavelength Division Multiplexing Passive Optical Networks (WDM-PON) with Erbium-Doped Fiber Amplifier (EDFA) to meet the growing demand for highbandwidth applications. Using Optsim software, the proposed system is simulated for 4-channels WDMPON. The paper presents a comparison of WDMPON performance with and without EDFA amplifiers. It is to be proven that in inclusion of EDFA in the WDM-PON system will significantly improve the system's output power, reduce bit error rate (BER) and enhance the quality factor (Q-factor) with enhanced input parameters like higher fiber length up to 50 Km. The area of EDFA will also be optimized for improving system performance. The bitrate will also be increased to meet modern requirements of higher bandwidth. With EDFA, the WDM-PON system will perform better in the terms of error rate and signal amplification. The design involves parameters like bitrate, laser power, fiber length, modulation type, attenuated power, etc. WDM-PON with EDFA shows great potential for applications like high-speed data transmission systems for Internet applications. This work proposes a hybrid system with LD/LED links for UWOC. The visible range's five wavelengths (412–715 nm) enable the investigation. The modulation schemes of PPM, QAM, and OOK are applied for modulating the information over the carrier wavelengths. The metric of BER is analyzed for the receiving signal and used as a criterion with a threshold of 10–10. The simulation is carried out using different techniques (1Tx/1Rx, 2Tx/2Rx, 3Tx/3Rx, and 4Tx/4Rx). The finding results manifest that the system fulfills a maximum link by MIMO with (4Tx/4Rx). The BER of the received signals satisfies a lower error in the information signal via LD links. The appropriate modulation scheme for working under seawater with a robust and flexible link is 64-PPM. An enhancement in the maximum link exceeding 70 m by the wavelength 715 nm is done. The detector APD-PD surpasses PIN-PD with the modulations PPM and QAM, and vice versa for the modulation OOK. A combination of science is a way to accommodate various effective phenomena that could influence the entire life cycle. Recently, emphasis has been placed on the electrochemical polymerization mechanism that is involved in numerous technological applications, including sensors and detectors. Accordingly, daily promises were raised to eliminate life disasters and alleviate the challenges such as water floods as a part of weather changes, which could cause severe damage to life health explicitly, infrastructure, economic productivity, and much more. The proposal considers the matter via compromising the water overflow as well as eliminating the disaster that would come in no warning time and tackling the climate emergency flooding with the potential of water reclamation and offers scholarly suggestions by the requirements of the scientific approach. The investigation clarified the electromagnetic absorber beside the electrochemical polymerization through engagement in the flooded water track stations and the calculation result shows that 19.73% could be absorbed when using 300 grams of polymer gel capacity in 240 grams of water. Infrared (IR) radiation has been used in food processing applications for its unique high heating efficiency. There is a great need to address the radiation absorption and heating effect during the application of IR in the processing of foods. The radiation wavelength determines the nature of the processing, and it is mainly affected by the type of emitter, operating temperature, and the power supplied. The penetration depth of the IR on food material plays a critical role in the heating level along with the optical characteristics of the IR and food product. The IR radiations cause a significant change in the food components like starch, protein, fats and enzymes. The facility to generate wavelength-specific radiation output can hold the potential of momentously increasing the efficiency of IR heating operations. IR heating is gaining importance in 3D and 4D printing systems, and the application of artificial intelligence in IR processing is being explored. This state-of-art review gives a detailed view of the different emitters of IR and mainly emphasizes the behavior and changes of major food components during IR treatment. Abstract Genus Nomorhamphus is an endemic fish that can be found in Sulawesi, Indonesia. This fish belongs to the halfbeak group and has diverse colors and morphology. It has economic value as an export commodity in the ornamental fish trade. Exploration of the genetic relationship of genus Nomorhamphus in Central Sulawesi is still limited. Nomorhamphus's fulfillment of export demand still comes from wild catches. This study aimed to identify the genetic relationship of genus Nomorhamphus in the inlet rivers of Lake Lindu, Central Sulawesi, and evaluate the adaptation response of genus Nomorhamphus to different wavelengths of light exposure. Caudal fin of six fish from the three inlet rivers of Lake Lindu were preserved in 95% ethanol for DNA extraction purposes. This research used a completely randomized design with three treatment, namely rearing under white (400 nm), green (525 nm), and red (625 nm) light for 60 days. Each treatment had three replications in the form of aquariums, with each aquarium being filled with four fish. A total of 42 fish were utilized in the study. CO1 sequence was amplified with universal primers of FISH-F2 and FISH-R2. The PCR amplification products were then sequenced and performed with phylogenetic tree analysis. The genetic diversity analysis suggests that the genus Nomorhamphus of all three rivers, Lindu Lake, Central Sulawesi is one species as Nomorhamphus sp.. Male and female growth length and gonad maturation were developed faster under green light exposure, while survival rate, blood glucose level, and color quality were not significantly different under different light. Exposure of wild fish to green light Nomorhamphus sp. can accelerate gonad maturation and growth to accelerate domestication.

Abstract Visual systems have evolved to discriminate between different wavelengths of light. The ability to perceive color, or specific light wavelengths, is important as color conveys crucial information about both biotic and abiotic features in the environment. Indeed, different wavelengths of light can drive distinct patterns of activity in the vertebrate brain, yet what remains incompletely understood is whether distinct wavelengths can invoke etiologically relevant behavioral changes. To address how specific wavelengths in the visible spectrum modulate behavioral performance, we use larval zebrafish and a stereotypic light-search behavior. Prior work has shown that the cessation of light triggers a transitional light-search behavior, which we use to interrogate wavelength-dependent behavioral modulation. Using 8 narrow spectrum light sources in the visible range, we demonstrate that all wavelengths induce motor parameters consistent with search behavior, yet the magnitude of search behavior is spectrum sensitive and the underlying motor parameters are modulated in distinct patterns across short, medium, and long wavelengths. However, our data also establishes that not all motor features of search are impacted by wavelength. To define how wavelength modulates search performance, we performed additional assays with alternative wavelengths, dual wavelengths, and variable intensity. Last, we also tested blind larvae to resolve which components of wavelength dependent behavioral changes potentially include signaling from non-retinal photoreception. These findings have important implications as organisms can be exposed to varying wavelengths in laboratory and natural settings and therefore impose unique behavioral outputs.

Background and Objectives: Magnetic fluids are unique nanodispersed systems that have the properties of a magnetic material and a liquid. Although their magnetic properties are inferior to steels and ferrites, they are supermagnetic compared to most liquid media. When a magnetic field is applied to a magnetic fluid, agglomerates of ferromagnetic nanoparticles are formed in it, which were visually observed in this work. Materials and Methods: The dependence of the modulation depth of laser radiation with wavelengths of 450 nm, 550 nm and 650 nm on the concentration of nanotubes and the magnitude of the magnetic field induction is studied. The transmittance of polarized radiation in the optical range is measured depending on the relative position of agglomerates of ferromagnetic nanoparticles and the vector of the electric field strength of laser radiation. The angle between the electrical component of the laser radiation and the magnetic field induction vector changes by rotating the laser diode and polarizer with a servomotor relative to the vertical axis. Results: The maximum value of the modulation depth for magnetic fluid without carbon nanotubes is 15% and is observed for laser radiation with a wavelength of 650 nm. Adding multi-walled carbon nanotubes to the magnetic fluid makes it possible to increase the modulation depth by approximately one and a halftimes. Conclusion: It has been revealed that with increasing wavelength of laser radiation, the modulation depth increases. As the magnetic field induction value increases, the modulation depth of polarized laser radiation increases for all wavelengths. The addition of carbon nanotubes to the magnetic fluid leads to their alignment along the agglomerates.

The study of plasma generation in liquids is relevant for many applications, especially for increasing the efficiency of terahertz radiation generation. This work investigates the relationship between the laser excitation wavelength and the plasma electron density in liquid water in the near-infrared spectral range. Using numerical simulation methods based on the Keldysh theory, patterns of changes in the ionization rate and changes in the plasma electron density depending on the excitation wavelength are analyzed. The results show the mutual influence of above-threshold ionization and tunneling effects when the Keldysh parameter is close to one. A decrease in plasma electron density with increasing excitation wavelength has been shown. However, in certain wavelength ranges a local increase in plasma electron density was observed. The theoretical results obtained are consistent with the experimental data of other scientific groups. This theoretical study provides valuable information on the modulation of plasma electron density by changing laser excitation wavelengths, which is important for increasing the efficiency of terahertz radiation generation.

The development of the Automated Agricultural Cabinet (AAC) prototype was driven by the goal of improving the aromatic qualities of locally grown rice. This compact prototype, designed with attention, employed Arduino programming to investigate genes related to the production of aromatic compounds in rice seedlings under different light conditions, including red, blue and white light. To ensure the reliability of experiments, a controlled environment was maintained at 25 °C and 75 % humidity, and rigorous testing confirmed precise light intensity measurements within the AAC. Results indicated specific light values: 9.25 ± 0.602 for red light, 11.47 ± 0.055 for blue light and 0.91 ± 0.027 µmol·m-²·s-1 for white light. The study focused on up-regulated genes in 7-day-old 'Hom Bon' rice seedlings, revealing a significant increase in P5CS and 1Δ-pyrroline gene expression. These genes are crucial in the biosynthesis pathway of 2-acetyl-1-pyrroline (2-AP), with P5CS acting as a precursor and 1Δ-pyrroline as the final step. Interestingly, the study discovered that when 7-day-old 'Hom Bon' rice seedlings were exposed to both red and blue light, gene expression rose dramatically, contrasting when exposed to white light. This finding demonstrates that the wavelength of light exposure influences gene expression in the 2-acetyl-1-pyrroline (2-AP) biosynthetic pathway of 'Hom Bon' rice seedlings throughout the 7-day growth stage. This study demonstrates the feasibility of improving the smell of indigenous rice varieties by changing pre-planting light conditions, giving a promising avenue for increased commercial appeal. BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVE: Laser treatment for hair removal is a very common procedure in dermatology. Ruby, diode, alexandrite, Nd:YAG, and intense pulse light are frequently used for hair reduction. For more effective results a combination of wavelengths is used. The purpose of this study is to determine the efficacy and safety of triple diode lasers in hair growth reduction. METHODOLOGY: This interventional longitudinal study comprises of total 82 patients using a non-probability convenience sampling technique, the mean age of the patients was 28.73, the age range was between 17 to 56 years, and all patients in this study were female of skin phenotype between III to V. Each session was done one month apart for four months, and hair growth reduction was assessed by using GAIS (Global Aesthetic Improvement Scale Assessment) score by two independent dermatologists in 4th session. RESULTS: Hair growth reduction was observed in all the enrolled patients from the first session. Out of 82 patients, 63.4% of patients are of skin phenotype IV, 23.2% patients are of skin phenotype III whereas 13.4% are skin phenotype V. After four sessions 41 patients (50%) showed excellent results, and 41 patients (50%) showed good results. None of these patients experienced any long-term side effects. CONCLUSION: Triple diode laser is a safe and effective modality in hair growth reduction at all body sites in skin phenotype III-V with minimal side effects. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: To determine the effect of visible blue wavelengths of argon laser beams in reducing bilirubin levels in newborns with jaundice. Background: Newborn jaundice ("hyperbilirubinemia") results from increased bilirubin concentrations in the skin and blood. Sunlight, comprising various light rays, is commonly used to treat this condition by breaking down bilirubin molecules. Other phototherapy techniques, including lamp phototherapy, are also employed. Methods: An experimental study was conducted on six male infants (5 to 15 days old) with jaundice at a hospital. These infants were exposed to blue-violet scattered light from an argon laser with a wavelength of 450 nm. Results: The concentration of bilirubin in these infants decreased following exposure to the argon laser light. The 450 nm wavelength effectively absorbs bilirubin, facilitating its breakdown. Conclusion: The study demonstrates the effectiveness of using argon laser with visible blue light in reducing bilirubin levels in infants with jaundice. Experimental parameters of wind-driven waves obtained with a measuring pole near the coastal line of Lake Baikal using video recorders placed on a slightly submerged mast are analyzed in the present work. The measurements were carried out during the fall period. The short-period dynamics of the characteristics of surface wind-driven waves arising on the shallow water surface is analyzed. Dependences are established of the wave heights on the wind speed and direction in an open region of Lake Baikal in the daytime; their maxima are recorded in the second half of the day at the western wind direction. The temporal variations of the wave periods and heights are shown, and the nonlinear gravitational wave modes are detected on the shallow water surface. As a result of these processes, the short-period wave heights reach their maximum values. Radar measurements of the wind-driven wave characteristics have shown a dependence of the back-reflected signal intensities on the variations in the wind-driven wave heights. Small-scale inhomogeneities observed on the water surface in the form of ripples, responsible for backscattering of wind-driven wave crests, are well recognized with a nanosecond radar. An experimental study of the normal spectral emissivity of technical nickel, palladium and platinum in the solid polished and liquid phases near the melting points was carried out by the radiation method. The emission measurement was recorded by the bandwidth of the applied narrowband filters. The dependence of metal emission on the wavelength in the range of the radiation spectrum 0.26–10.6 μm is obtained. A comparative analysis with the literature data of other authors is carried out. Prediction of the exact location and depth of underground targets with the very low-frequency electromagnetic (VLF-EM) technique is one of the most important and difficult tasks in geophysical investigations. This study examined and compared the conventional 2D KIFFILT inversion pseudo-section and the use of Thumb's rule technique in the Fraser filter plot to estimate the top depth of underground targets. The VLF-EM measurement was performed over several empirical buried target models to identify anomalies or geophysical responses corresponding to subsurface targets. The Karous-Hjelt and Fraser filtering techniques were applied to estimate the depth of the identified anomalies using Thumb's rule and the conventional 2D KIFFILT inversion. The signal behaviours of the VLF-EM current density pseudo-sections and the application of Thumb's rule effectiveness in delineating empirical buried target models were examined. Thumb's rule shows 65 % accuracy with the actual depth of the empirical buried target models, while the conventional 2D KHFFILT inversion shows 30 % accuracy with the actual depth of burial. Thumb's rule is more effective and precise in predicting the accurate depth of underground targets. The influences of conductive and resistive materials on VLF-EM signals and the challenges of VLF-EM surveys were discussed. Thumb's rule is suggested as a substantial technique for estimating top depth to the underground target where depth estimation is of prime interest due to its large degree of accuracy. In addition, the total depth of the current density distribution was noted to be increased when the distance between measuring points increased. This means that VLF-EM signals with longer wavelengths indicate deeper depth penetration into the ground than signals with shorter wavelengths. The accuracy of Thumb's rule regarding top depth estimation of the anomalies has been successfully tested and validated, which can be used for VLF-EM investigation where accurate depth estimation is required. The VLF-EM technique can be considered reliable for depth estimation using Thumb's rule approach, which applies to a wide range of subsurface investigations.

This study addressed the optimization of biomass and C-phycocyanin (C-PC) concentration and its purity in the thermotolerant cyanobacterium Potamosiphon sp by adjusting key light quality parameters. Custom design and Central Composite Design experimental designs were employed, using LEDs light intensity, wavelength, and photoperiod. The results demonstrated that these lighting parameters significantly influence biomass and C-phycocyanin production, achieving up to a 100 % increase in phycocyanin accumulation and biomass production and a 50 % improvement in purity index compared to conventional white light under optimal conditions of Red:Blue light (3:1), Intensity (283 μmol m−2 s−1), and photoperiod (17.8 H light). The findings support the use of specific LEDs wavelengths that optimize the performance of production processes and the quality of products derived from cyanobacteria, such as high-value phycobiliproteins.

Lotka-Volterra model continues to be of interest to numerous researchers, both in terms of its mathematical development and applications. This paper discusses an analytical solution of the Lotka-Volterra model near its equilibrium point. This solution, which is the main result of this paper, has not been previously explored by other researchers. The proposed solution is in the form of a series expansion with respect to parameter (1), representing a perturbed solution around the equilibrium point. The analytical solution is evaluated by comparing to both the corresponding exact orbit, which is directly derived from the model, and the corresponding numerical solution. Comparisons with the exact orbit reveal that the orbit formed by the analytical solution closely approximates the exact one. The orbits formed by the analytical solution are closer to the exact ones as approaches zero. Similarly, the analytical solution is also closer to the numerical solution as approaches zero. Additionally, as the solutions exhibit wave-like behavior, further observations are made regarding the 'amplitude' and 'wavelength' of the analytical solution. The wavelength and amplitude of the analytical solutions are closer to the ones of the numerical solutions as tends to zero. The set of timers in using phototherapy is major problem which has to be resolved to get a good performance of rhinitis phototherapy. This research aims to develop a prototype of phototherapy for allergic rhinitis, incorporating a timer based on light energy. The prototype utilizes a laser diode as a visible light source, specifically with a wavelength of 650 nm. The recommended safe and effective dose of light energy ranges from 1 to 10 Joules, which has been converted into minutes. Measurement tests indicate an average wavelength of 652.40 nm for the right laser, with a measurement uncertainty of ±0.11, and 653.23 nm for the left laser, with a measurement uncertainty of ±0.05. The laser diode source has an average voltage of 1.91 volts and an average current of 1.89 milliamperes, with a measurement uncertainty of ±0.00 and ±0.01, respectively. Additionally, the average discrepancy in the timer is 0.082 minutes for the 10-minute setting and 0.082 minutes for the 20-minute setting. In this paper, a numerical investigation is performed to study the broadband noise of a fan stage with wavy trailing-edge blades. A study of the wavelength and ratio of amplitude to wavelength (H/L) is conducted to better understand the noise reduction effect of wavy trailing-edge blades. A rotor–stator interaction broadband noise prediction method based on the result of a Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes equation is used. The results show that all wavy trailing-edge configurations reduce the sound power level of the fan stage. The noise reduction effect of H20L10 is the best among all the wavy trailing-edge configurations, and the sound power level is reduced by 2.4 dB at 1000 Hz. When the H/L remains unchanged, the noise reduction effect of the wavy trailing-edge configuration increases with the increase in wavelength. When the wavelength remains unchanged, the noise reduction effect of the wavy trailing-edge configuration with an H/L of 2 is the best. The use of wavy trailing-edge configurations reduces the turbulent kinetic energy and turbulent integral length scale upstream of the stator by changing the wake of the rotor, thereby reducing the rotor–stator interaction broadband noise of the fan stage. The aggregation-induced emission (AIE) effect exhibits a significant influence on the development of luminescent materials and has made remarkable progress over the past decades. The advancement of high-performance AIE materials requires fast and accurate predictions of their photophysical properties, which is impeded by the inherent limitations of quantum chemical calculations. In this work, we present an accurate machine learning approach for the fast predictions of quantum yields and wavelengths to screen out AIE molecules. A database of about 563 organic luminescent molecules with quantum yields and wavelengths in the monomeric/aggregated states was established. Individual/combined molecular fingerprints were selected and compared elaborately to attain appropriate molecular descriptors. Different machine learning algorithms combined with favorable molecular fingerprints were further screened to achieve more accurate prediction models. The simulation results indicate that combined molecular fingerprints yield more accurate predictions in the aggregated states, and random forest and gradient boosting regression algorithms show the best predictions in quantum yields and wavelengths, respectively. Given the successful applications of machine learning in quantum yields and wavelengths, it is reasonable to anticipate that machine learning can serve as a complementary strategy to traditional experimental/theoretical methods in the investigation of aggregation-induced luminescent molecules to facilitate the discovery of luminescent materials. All calculations for mass, distance and time for all particles give the same value which corresponds and equals to Planck's constant in all electromagnetic bands, so the physical meaning of Planck's constant is interpreted which represents these main three physical parameters as a result of the physical mechanisms responsible for excited states of nuclei, atoms and molecules. As a result of the equality between Planck's constant and the mentioned three physical parameters a new equation of calculating exact distance of all emitted photons from nuclei, atoms and molecules from radio waves to gamma rays is deduced. Due to the increasing presence of industrial hemp (Cannabis sativa L.) and its multiple possibilities of use, the influence of different light and several biopreparations based on beneficial fungi and bacteria on hemp's morphological and physiological properties were examined. Different biopreparations and their combinations were inoculated on hemp seed and/or substrate and grown under blue and white light. A completely randomized block design was conducted in four replications within 30 days. For biopreparation treatment, vesicular arbuscular mycorrhiza (VAM) in combination with Azotobacter chroococum and Trichoderma spp. were inoculated only on seed or both on seed and in the substrate. Generally, the highest morphological parameters (stem, root and plant length) were recorded on plants in white light and on treatment with applied Trichoderma spp., both on seed and substrate. Blue light negatively affected biopreparation treatments, resulting in lower values of all morphological parameters compared to control. Leaves pigments were higher under blue light, as compared to the white light. At the same time, 1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP), flavonoids, total flavanol content and phenolic acids were not influenced by light type. Biopreparation treatments did not significantly influence the leaves' pigments content (Chl a, Chl b and Car), nor the phenolic and flavanol content. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background. The purpose of this article is to study the effect of ultrasonic vibrations on the surface of a liquid for subsequent use in electric arc surfacing processes. Materials and methods. To reach this goal, a duralumin ampoule-step concentrator was used at a frequency of 21400 Hz. Measurements were carried out on a piezoelectric converter with a frequency of 19-24 kHz, as a liquid – industrial water. Results. The dependences of the height of the radiating surface of the ultrasonic vibration concentrator (USVC) on the surface of the liquid on which the impact and formation of the “hole” occur are determined; the parameters of the ultrasonic wave passing through the separation of two media water-air are determined; the dimensions of the depth of the “hole”, pressure and surface area at maximum exposure are determined. Conclusions. The results obtained can and will be used in the processes of electric arc surfacing of metals as a shaping factor.

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common arrhythmia in the United States, affecting approximately 1 in 10 adults, and its prevalence is expected to rise as the population ages. Treatment options for AF are limited; moreover, the development of new treatments is hindered by limited (1) knowledge regarding human atrial electrophysiological endpoints (e.g., conduction velocity [CV]) and (2) accurate experimental models. Here, we measured the CV and refractory period, and subsequently calculated the conduction wavelength, in vivo (four subjects with AF and four controls), and ex vivo (atrial slices from human hearts). Then, we created an in vitro model of human atrial conduction using induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells. This model consisted of iPS-derived human atrial cardiomyocytes plated onto a micropatterned linear 1D spiral design of Matrigel. The CV (34-41 cm/s) of the in vitro model was nearly five times faster than 2D controls (7-9 cm/s) and similar to in vivo (40-64 cm/s) and ex vivo (28-51 cm/s) measurements. Our iPS-derived in vitro model recapitulates key features of in vivo atrial conduction and may be a useful methodology to enhance our understanding of AF and model patient-specific disease.

This study developed an advanced 850 nm centered distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) (broadband DBR) composed of nanomaterial-based multiple structures to improve the optical efficiency of an 850 nm near-infrared light-emitting diode (NIR-LED). A combined 850 nm centered broadband DBR was fabricated by growing an 800 nm centered ten-pair DBR on a 900 nm centered ten-pair DBR (denoted as a combined DBR). The combined DBR exhibited a slightly wider peak band than conventional DBRs. Furthermore, the peak band width of the combined DBR significantly increased upon using a reflective AlAs buffer layer that reduced the overlapped reflection. The output power (20.5 mW) of NIR-LED chips using the combined DBR with an AlAs buffer layer exceeded that of a conventional 850 nm centered DBR (14.5 mW) by more than 40%. Results indicated that combining the optical conditions of wavelengths and the AlAs buffer layer effectively strengthened the broadband effect of the DBR and increased the optical efficiency of the 850 nm NIR-LED. Bioluminescence is ubiquitous in marine ecosystems and found in uni- and multicellular organisms. Bioluminescent displays can be used to deter predators, attract mates, and lure and hunt prey. Mechanically stimulated flash kinetics of zooplankton and dinoflagellates are life stage-dependent and species-specific, and could prove effective at identification and monitoring biodiversity in bioluminescent species. Here, we provide a comprehensive review of mechanically stimulated bioluminescence for the main dinoflagellate and zooplankton clades in marine environments and assemble known flash kinetics and spectral emission data. Instruments and methods used in measuring bioluminescence are also discussed. Applications, research gaps, perspectives, and biases in approaches to studying bioluminescence are identified. Moreover, emission kinetics of most zooplankton are very poorly known and constitute a critical gap. A theoretical and experimental study was conducted to investigate the effect of injection angle on surface waves. Linear stability theory was utilized to obtain the analytical relation. In the experimental study, high-speed photography and shadowgraph techniques were used. Image processing codes were developed to extract information from photos. The results obtained from the theoretical relation were validated with the experimental results at different injection angles. In addition, at the injection angle of 90 ∘ , the theoretical results were evaluated with the experimental results of other researchers. This evaluation showed that the theory results were in good agreement with the experimental data. The proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) and the power spectra density (PSD) analysis were also used to investigate the effect of the injection angle on the flow structures. The results obtained from the linear stability were used to determine the maximum waves' growth rate, and a relation was presented for the breakup length of the liquid jet at different injection angles. The breakup length results were compared with theory and published experimental data. The presented relation is more consistent with experimental data than other theories due to considering the nature of waves. The results showed that the instability of the liquid jet is influenced by three forces: inertial, surface tension, and aerodynamic. Therefore, Rayleigh–Taylor, Kelvin–Helmholtz, Rayleigh–Plateau, and azimuthal instabilities occur in the process. Decreasing the injection angle changes the nature of waves and shifts from Rayleigh–Taylor to Kelvin–Helmholtz. That reduces the wavelength and increases the growth rate of the waves. Axial waves have a significant impact on the physics of the waves and influence parameters. If axial waves are not formed, the growth rate of the waves is independent of the injection angle. An increase in the gas Weber number causes a change in the type of dominant waves and a greater instability of the liquid jet. In contrast, an increase in the liquid Weber number causes an enhancement in the resistance of the liquid jet against the transverse flow without changing the type of the dominant waves. Decreasing the density ratio reduces the effect of Rayleigh–Taylor waves and strengthens the Kelvin–Helmholtz waves. The aim of this article is to evaluate the effects of cargo relative weight and its distribution along the boat's length in addition to the relative water wavelength on the dynamic performance of a high-speed planing hull. Here, the dynamic performance is measured by the intensity of the boat's heave and pitch motions. The Zarnick's strip theory, which divides the vessel's hull into equal lateral sections, is used to study the applied forces on the vessel, and a MATLAB code is provided based on it. It is demonstrated that increasing the cargo weight and its distribution result in more heave and pitch, and the maximum amount of them are observed in the wave with a length of about 5 times the length of the boat. In addition, the interactive effects of cargo weight and its distribution on the heave and pitch motions are affected by the relative wavelength. Therefore, the more centralized cargo distribution is preferred to increase the dynamic performance of a heavy planing boat with cargo weights more than 50% of the boat's weight, while moving in short waves (λ⁄L<4); and for light cargo weight, less than 50% of the boat's weight, the favorite cargo distribution is broad.
