La caractérisation du climat urbain dans les villes chaudes et arides est essentielle pour comprendre les interactions des variables climatiques avec le bâti et la végétation. Les chaleurs estivales caniculaires constituent une contrainte extrême pour les citadins, en particulier la population à risque comme les jeunes enfants et les personnes âgées ou malades. La végétation contribue à améliorer le microclimat urbain de ces régions et est considérée comme un moyen de lutte contre les ICU (Ilots de Chaleur Urbains). Cette étude a pour objectif l’analyse des variations microclimatiques intra-urbaines et l’impact de la végétation dans la ville de Ghardaïa à travers une campagne de mesure in situ. Le comportement thermique des sites de mesures oscille entre ICU et IFU (Ilot de Fraicheur Urbain). L’étude a montré l’existence d’un « archipel » de chaleur à travers la ville. L’intensité maximale de l’ICU de chaleur est de 2.98°C. La température minimale nocturne est supérieure à 30°C, bien au-delà de la limite du confort thermique. Quant aux différences intra-urbaines, on note que la végétation produit un IFU maximal de 5.61°C. L’effet modérateur de la végétation durant le jour est dû principalement à l’ombre fournie par la canopée des arbres. Les sites végétalisés ne manifestent pas de différence significative d’humidité par rapport aux autres sites urbains. Il s’avère qu’un couvert végétal urbain plus dense et irrigué améliorerait davantage les conditions de confort en ville., Characterizing urban climate in hot arid cities is a key step to understand the interactions of climatic variables with the built-up and the vegetation. Extreme heat waves in summer are a strong stress especially for heat-vulnerable populations such as young children, the elderly and the sick. Urban Heat Island (UHI) in hot arid regions shows some specific features compared to other regions. Vegetation is known to play a role in alleviating urban heat island especially in hot arid climates. This study aims to analyse intra-urban microclimatic variations and the impact of vegetation in the arid city of Ghardaïa via in-situ measurements. The thermal behavior of measurement sites varies between urban heat island and cool island. It was detected an "archipelago" of heat throughout the city. The maximum intensity of UHI is 2.98 ° C. As for the intra-urban differences, the vegetation produces a maximum PCI of 5.61 ° C. The minimum night-time temperature is above 30 ° C, well above the thermal comfort limit. The moderating effect of vegetation is mainly due to the shade provided by tree canopy. Vegetated sites do not show a significant difference in humidity compared to other built-up sites. It seems that a denser urban vegetation cover would further improve comfort conditions in the city.

Imaging spectroscopy has demonstrated its interest in characterizing the biochemical, biophysical and structural properties of vegetation, natural and agricultural soils, as well as artificial surfaces. Following the Hyperion mission, new space missions have emerged (PRISMA, EnMap), or are under study (CHIME, SBG). However, one of their main limitations lies in their spatial resolution that induces a large number of mixed pixels reducing their potential for discrimination for very heterogeneous areas. The BIODIVERSITY mission aims to complement these space missions with better GSD acquisitions (typically 8-10 m) with a 5-day revisit on targeted reference sites with identified and well-located characteristics. It will thus make it possible, in particular, to answer two scientific issues that will design the instrument. The first issue concerns the spatial and temporal distribution of vegetation traits in species assemblages; these traits are associated with the resilience of terrestrial ecosystems, anthropogenic influences, and the biodiversity of ecosystems in terms of species composition and assemblages. The second issue relates to improving our knowledge of coastal areas and inland waters in terms of biodiversity, water quality and bathymetry, in order to assess the impact of human activity on their ecosytems. The scientific challenges as well as the user requirements for such a mission are presented for each application., L’imagerie hyperspectrale a démontré son intérêt pour la caractérisation des propriétés biochimiques, biophysiques et structurelles de la végétation, des sols naturels et agricoles ainsi que des surfaces artificialisées. A la suite de la mission Hyperion, de nouvelles missions spatiales ont vu le jour (PRISMA, EnMAP), ou sont en phase d’étude (SBG, CHIME). Ces spectro-imageurs ont une résolution spatiale au sol de l’ordre de 30 m, un large champ de vue et peuvent couvrir de vastes zones du globe terrestre afin de caractériser les écosystèmes terrestres et océaniques avec un temps de revisite variant de 4 à 16 jours. Néanmoins, leur résolution spatiale est limitée ce qui induit un nombre important de pixels mixtes réduisant leur potentiel de discrimination pour des zones hétérogènes. La mission BIODIVERSITY a pour objectif de compléter ces missions par des acquisitions de meilleure résolution spatiale (typiquement 8-10 m) avec une revisite de l’ordre de 5 jours sur des sites de référence ciblés possédant des caractéristiques identifiées et bien localisées. Elle permettra ainsi de répondre à deux problématiques scientifiques qui vont dimensionner l’instrument. La première problématique porte sur la distribution spatiale et temporelle des traits de la végétation dans les assemblages d’espèces ; ces traits sont associés à la résilience des écosystèmes terrestres, aux influences anthropiques et à la biodiversité des écosystèmes en termes de composition et d’assemblages en espèces. La seconde problématique porte sur l’amélioration de nos connaissances des zones côtières et des eaux continentales en termes de biodiversité, de qualité des eaux et de bathymétrie, pour ensuite évaluer l’impact de l’activité anthropique sur leurs écosystèmes. Enfin, ces deux applications qui déterminent les spécifications de l’instrument seront complétées par l’étude, à fine résolution spatiale, de l’impact des pratiques de gestion des sols dans un processus environnemental tels que le stockage du carbone dans les sols, l’infiltration et la rétention d’eau en surface ou l’érosion des sols. Elles ouvrent également de nouvelles voies pour évaluer comment les matériaux urbains influencent notre environnement proche et pour caractériser les pollutions urbaine et industrielle. Les défis scientifiques ainsi que les exigences-utilisateurs pour une telle mission sont présentés pour chaque application.

International audience; he HYEP project (ANR HYEP 14-CE22-0016-01 Hyperspectral imagery for Environmental urban Planning - Mobility and Urban Systems Programme - 2014) confirmed the interest of a global approach to the urban environment by remote sensing and in particular by using hyperspectral imaging (HI). The interest of hyperspectral images lies in the range of information provided over wavelengths from 0.4 to 4 μm; they thus provide access to spectral quantities of interest and to chemical or biophysical parameters of the surface. HYEP's objective was to specify this and to propose a panel of methods and treatments taking into account the characteristics of other existing sensors in order to compare their performance. The developments carried out were applied and evaluated on hyperspectral airborne images acquired in Toulouse and Kaunas (Lithuania), also used to synthesize space systems: Sentinel-2, Hypxim/Biodiversity and Pleiades. Among the locks identified were those related to improving the spatial capabilities of the sensors and spatial scale changes, which were partially overcome by fusion and sharpening approaches, which proved to be successful. After a description of our hyperspectral data set acquired over Toulouse, an analysis is conducted on several existing and accessible spectral databases. Then, the chosen methods are presented. They include extraction, fusion and classification methods, which are then applied on our dataset synthetized at different spatial resolution to evaluate the benefits and the complementarity of hyperspectral imagery in comparison with other traditional sensors. Some specific applications are investigated of interest for urban planners: impervious soil map, vegetation species cartography and detection of solar panels. L’intérêt des images hyperspectrales réside dans la gamme d’informations fournies sur des longueurs d’onde de 0,4 à 4 μm ; elles fournissent ainsi un accès aux grandeurs spectrales d'intérêt et aux paramètres chimiques ou biophysiques de la surface. HYEP avait pour objectif de préciser ceci et de proposer un panel de méthodes et de traitements en tenant compte des caractéristiques des autres capteurs existants afin d’en comparer les performances. Les développements réalisés ont été appliqués et évalués sur des images aéroportées hyperspectrales acquises sur Toulouse (France) et Kaunas (Lituania), utilisées également pour synthétiser des systèmes spatiaux : Sentinel-2, Hypxim/Biodiversity et Pleiades. Parmi les verrous identifiés, ceux liés à l'amélioration des capacités spatiales des capteurs et aux changements d’échelle spatiale ont été en partie levés par des approches de fusion, qui se sont avérées concluantes. Des méthodes d’extraction, de fusion ou de classification ont été appliquées à différentes résolutions spatiales afin de qualifier les gains et la complémentarité de l’IH par rapport à d’autres capteurs. Ces évaluations ont ainsi porté sur des « objets » d’intérêt pour les gestionnaires et aménageurs du milieu urbain : les surfaces imperméables, la végétation ou encore la détection de panneaux solaires.
