- Abstract
Two surveys were conducted to examine the prevalence and severity of burnout in physicians. In the first survey, a total of 1,161 Alberta physicians responded to a series of demographic questions and 4 burnout measures, including a modified Maslach Burnout Inventory (MMBI). In the second survey, a total of 2,251 Canadian physicians completed the Boudreau Burnout Questionnaire (BBQ) as part of the Canadian Medical Association Physician Resource Questionnaire. Using these measures of burnout and the Phase Model approach, physician burnout levels were identified. Overall, 45.7% of Canadian physicians and 48.6 to 55.5% of Alberta physicians were classified as being in the advanced phases of burnout. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
