Abstract

Charge-changing cross-sections of $^{11-16}$C, $^{13-17}$N and $^{15-18}$O on a carbon target have been determined at energies around 300 MeV/nucleon. A nucleon separation energy-dependent correction factor has been introduced to the Glauber model calculation for extracting the nuclear charge radii from the experimental CCCSs. The charge radii of $^{11}$C, $^{13,16}$N and $^{15}$O thus were determined for the first time. With the new radii, we studied the experimental mirror-difference charge radii ($\Delta R_{\text {ch}}^{\text {mirror}}$) of $^{11}$B-$^{11}$C, $^{13}$C-$^{13}$N, $^{15}$N-$^{15}$O, $^{17}$N-$^{17}$Ne pairs for the first time. We find that the $\Delta R_{\text {ch}}^{\text {mirror}}$ values of $^{13}$C-$^{13}$N and $^{15}$N-$^{15}$O pairs follow well the empirical relation to the isospin asymmetry predicted by the $ab$ $initio$ calculations, while $\Delta R_{\text {ch}}^{\text {mirror}}$ of $^{11}$B-$^{11}$C and $^{17}$N-$^{17}$Ne pairs deviate from such relation by more than two standard deviations., Comment: 3 figures, submitted to Physics Letters B

Abstract

We present the charge-changing cross sections (CCCS) of $^{11-15}$C, $^{13-17}$N, and $^{15,17-18}$O at around 300 MeV/nucleon on a carbon target, which extends to $p$-shell isotopes with $N < Z$ for the first time. The Glauber model, which considers only the proton distribution of projectile nuclei, underestimates the cross sections by more than 10\%. We show that this discrepancy can be resolved by considering the contribution from the charged-particle evaporation process (CPEP) following projectile neutron removal. Using nucleon densities from the deformed relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov theory in continuum, we investigate the isospin-dependent CPEP contribution to the CCCS for a wide range of neutron-to-proton separation energy asymmetry. Our calculations, which include the CPEP contribution, agree well with existing systematic data and reveal an ``evaporation peak" at the isospin symmetric region where the neutron-to-proton separation energy is close to zero. These results suggest that analysis beyond the Glauber model is crucial for accurately determining nuclear charge radii from CCCSs., Comment: 5 figures

Abstract

The Super $\tau$-Charm facility (STCF) is an electron-positron collider proposed by the Chinese particle physics community. It is designed to operate in a center-of-mass energy range from 2 to 7 GeV with a peak luminosity of $0.5\times 10^{35}{\rm cm}^{-2}{\rm s}^{-1}$ or higher. The STCF will produce a data sample about a factor of 100 larger than that by the present $\tau$-Charm factory -- the BEPCII, providing a unique platform for exploring the asymmetry of matter-antimatter (charge-parity violation), in-depth studies of the internal structure of hadrons and the nature of non-perturbative strong interactions, as well as searching for exotic hadrons and physics beyond the Standard Model. The STCF project in China is under development with an extensive R\&D program. This document presents the physics opportunities at the STCF, describes conceptual designs of the STCF detector system, and discusses future plans for detector R\&D and physics case studies.

Abstract

In typical nuclear physics experiments with radioactive ion beams (RIBs) selected by the in-flight separation technique, Si detectors or ionization chambers are usually equipped for the charge determination of RIBs. The obtained charge resolution relies on the performance of these detectors for energy loss determination, and this affects the particle identification capability of RIBs. We present an approach on improving the resolution of charge measurement for heavy ions by using the abundant energy loss information from different types of existing detectors along the beam line. Without altering the beam line and detectors, this approach can improve the charge resolution by more than 12\% relative to the multiple sampling ionization chamber of the best resolution., Comment: 8 pages, 5 figures

Abstract

The Global Consortium for the Classification of Fungi and fungus-like taxa is an international initiative of more than 550 mycologists to develop an electronic structure for the classification of these organisms. The members of the Consortium originate from 55 countries/regions worldwide, from a wide range of disciplines, and include senior, mid-career and early-career mycologists and plant pathologists. The Consortium will publish a biannual update of the Outline of Fungi and fungus-like taxa, to act as an international scheme for other scientists. Notes on all newly published taxa at or above the level of species will be prepared and published online on the Outline of Fungi website (https://www.outlineoffungi.org/), and these will be finally published in the biannual edition of the Outline of Fungi and fungus-like taxa. Comments on recent important taxonomic opinions on controversial topics will be included in the biannual outline. For example, 'to promote a more stable taxonomy in Fusarium given the divergences over its generic delimitation', or 'are there too many genera in the Boletales?' and even more importantly, 'what should be done with the tremendously diverse 'dark fungal taxa?' There are undeniable differences in mycologists' perceptions and opinions regarding species classification as well as the establishment of new species. Given the pluralistic nature of fungal taxonomy and its implications for species concepts and the nature of species, this consortium aims to provide a platform to better refine and stabilise fungal classification, taking into consideration views from different parties. In the future, a confidential voting system will be set up to gauge the opinions of all mycologists in the Consortium on important topics. Abstract

Little is known about the morphological structure and photosynthetic physiology of Phoebe bournei (P. bournei) of different age classes in different light environments in a natural forest. There are four light intensity levels under the natural forest of P. bournei in Taijiang county, Guizhou Province, China, with 10% of the total light being weak light (WL), 30-40% being medium low light (LL), 50-60% being medium light (ML) and 80-100% being high light (HL) respectively. Our results are as follows: (1) Under high light (HL), the occurrence of younger seedlings and saplings is less frequent, especially P. bournei of age I was not observed in HL light intensity. (2) In the same age class and different light intensity classes: The leaf area of the same age class increases gradually with decreasing light intensity, except for the first age class; The specific leaf area (SLA), chlorophyll a (Chl a) and chlorophyll b (Chl b) increase gradually with decreasing light intensity; The thickness of palisade tissue and leaves decreases with decreasing light intensity; (3) In the same light intensity class and different age level classes. Palisade tissue thickness, spongy tissue thickness and leaf thickness gradually increases with the increase of age grade; Chl a and Chl b decreased with increasing light age. With the current study of the change of morphological and photosynthetic physiological characteristics of P. bournei of different ages with the light environment, we aim at providing theoretical basis and technical guidance for the management and protection of P. bournei natural forests and the formulation of technical measures for plantation cultivation. Abstract

The synthesis of very highly sulfonated polyaniline (LEB-SPAN) using leucoemeraldine base as the precursor is discussed. Unlike conventional forms of the self-doped water-soluble conducting polymer, LEB-SPAN has higher sulfur to nitrogen ratio, dc conductivity and different pH-dependent oxidation potential. To this end, a quasi-random oxidation model of the electrochemical oxidation process is derived to explain the differences in situ electron paramagnetic resonance intensity between the different sulfonated polyanilines.

Abstract

Using the density functional theory and nonequilibrium Green's function method, we report the effect of the gold-single wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) composite contacts on the electronic structures and the transport properties of the device constructed by SWCNTs [SWCNT(10,0) or SWCNT(5,5)] and gold electrodes. The transmissions of the devices are greatly improved due to the strong couplings between carbon and gold atoms of the composite contacts. As for SWCNT(10,0), the gold atoms in the composite contacts behave as n-type dopant and depress the Schottky barrier between SWCNT(10,0) and the gold electrode. Moreover, the negative differential resistance characteristics occurs in the devices constructed by gold-SWCNT(10,0) composite contacts. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Background High tumor mutational burden (TMB-H) is correlated with enhanced objective response rate (ORR) and progression-free survival (PFS) for certain cancers receiving immunotherapy. This study aimed to investigate the safety and efficacy of toripalimab, a humanized programmed death-1 (PD-1) antibody, in advanced gastric cancer (AGC), and the predictive survival benefit of TMB and PD-L1. Patients and methods We reported on the AGC cohort of phase Ib/II trial evaluating the safety and activity of toripalimab in patients with AGC, oesophageal squamous cell carcinoma, nasopharyngeal carcinoma and head and neck squamous cell carcinoma. In cohort 1, 58 chemo-refractory AGC patients received toripalimab (3 mg/kg d1, Q2W) as a monotherapy. In cohort 2, 18 chemotherapy-naive AGC patients received toripalimab (360 mg d1, Q3W) with oxaliplatin 130 mg/m2 qd, d1, capecitabine 1000 mg/m2 b.i.d. d1–d14, Q3W as first-line treatment. Primary end point was ORR. Biomarkers such as PD-L1 and TMB were evaluated for correlation with clinical efficacy. Results In cohort 1, the ORR was 12.1% and the disease control rate (DCR) was 39.7%. Median PFS was 1.9 months and median OS was 4.8 months. The TMB-H group showed significant superior OS than the TMB-L group [14.6 versus 4.0 months, HR = 0.48 (96% CI 0.24–0.96), P  =   0.038], while PD-L1 overexpression did not correlate with significant survival benefit. A 77.6% of patients experienced at least one treatment-related adverse event (TRAE), and 22.4% of patients experienced a grade 3 or higher TRAE. In cohort 2, the ORR was 66.7% and the DCR was 88.9%. A 94.4% of patients experienced at least one TRAE and 38.9% of patients experienced grade 3 or higher TRAEs. Conclusions Toripalimab has demonstrated a manageable safety profile and promising antitumor activity in AGC patients, especially in combination with XELOX. Abstract

Laser shock processing (LSP) is proving to be a competitive technology to traditional surface enhancement techniques in engineering products. The LSP develops a significant residual compressive stress deep into the surface of a metal alloy, which is beneficial for fatigue, wear and corrosion. In this paper a comprehensive finite element analysis (FEA) model is presented to investigate the redistribution of welding residual stress processed by laser shock processing. In order to verify the FEA model, benchmark simulations are performed verified with available experimental results. Results show that predicted residual stresses agree well with the experimental data. A point to be noted from the results is that welding tensile residual stress can be modified and changed into compressive residual stress due to laser shock processing. Parametric study of influences of LSP parameters on welding tensile residual stress, such as full width at half maximum (FWHM), power density, spot size and number of shots, have been analysed.
