11. A new visual State Space Model for low‐dose CT denoising.

Background: Low‐dose computed tomography (LDCT) can mitigate potential health risks to the public. However, the severe noise and artifacts in LDCT images can impede subsequent clinical diagnosis and analysis. Convolutional neural networks (CNNs) and Transformers stand out as the two most popular backbones in LDCT denoising. Nonetheless, CNNs suffer from a lack of long‐range modeling capabilities, while Transformers are hindered by high computational complexity. Purpose: In this study, our main goal is to develop a simple and efficient model that can both focus on local spatial context and model long‐range dependencies with linear computational complexity for LDCT denoising. Methods: In this study, we make the first attempt to apply the State Space Model to LDCT denoising and propose a novel LDCT denoising model named Visual Mamba Encoder‐Decoder Network (ViMEDnet). To efficiently and effectively capture both the local and global features, we propose the Mixed State Space Module (MSSM), where the depth‐wise convolution, max‐pooling, and 2D Selective Scan Module (2DSSM) are coupled together through a partial channel splitting mechanism. 2DSSM is capable of capturing global information with linear computational complexity, while convolution and max‐pooling can effectively learn local signals to facilitate detail restoration. Furthermore, the network uses a weighted gradient‐sensitive hybrid loss function to facilitate the preservation of image details, improving the overall denoising performance. Results: The performance of our proposed ViMEDnet is compared to five state‐of‐the‐art LDCT denoising methods, including an iterative algorithm, two CNN‐based methods, and two Transformer‐based methods. The comparative experimental results demonstrate that the proposed ViMEDnet can achieve better visual quality and quantitative assessment outcomes. In visual evaluation, ViMEDnet effectively removes noise and artifacts, while exhibiting superior performance in restoring fine structures and low‐contrast structural edges, resulting in minimal deviation of denoised images from NDCT. In quantitative assessment, ViMEDnet obtains the lowest RMSE and the highest PSNR, SSIM, and FSIM scores, further substantiating the superiority of ViMEDnet. Conclusions: The proposed ViMEDnet possesses excellent LDCT denoising performance and provides a new alternative to LDCT denoising models beyond the existing CNN and Transformer options. Objectives: To assess the effect and safety of Zoladex (Goserelin acetate) 10.8 mg in patients with uterine fibroids. Methods: Fifty-three patients received Goserelin acetate 10.8 mg once and surgery was conducted at 12 weeks ± 7 days after drug injection. All assessments form baseline to week12/before surgery were carried out: fibroids volume, uterine volume, serum hormone (E2, FSH, LH), hemoglobin concentration, uterine arterial resistance index (UA-RI), fibroid arterial RI (FA-RI) and improvements of symptoms (Uterine Fibroid Symptom and Quality of Life (UFS-QOL) and Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQL) scores). Adverse events (AEs) were recorded to evaluate the safety. Results: After 12 weeks of treatment, the volume of uterine fibroids was significantly smaller than before (249.19 ± 297.04 vs. 195.77 ± 418.27 cm3, p < 0.0001). The volume of the uterus was also smaller than before (372.02 vs. 263.58 cm3, p < 0.0001). Serum levels of E2, FSH, and LH showed significant decreasing trend (61.13 pmol/L, 5.23 IU/L and 4.75 IU/L respectively, p < 0.0001) and hemoglobin levels were increased significantly (108.30 ± 26.28 VS. 134.90 ± 9.21g/L, p < 0.0001). Left and right UA-RI showed slight increase of 0.04 and 0.02 respectively from baseline without significance. Mean FA-RI showed slight decrease of 0.03 from baseline (p = 0.22). Patient symptoms were alleviated after treatment. In addition, AEs occurred in 81.1% of enrolled patients and all AEs were well tolerably. Conclusions: Goserelin acetate 10.8 mg pretreatment can effectively reduce the volume of uterine fibroids and uterus, lower estrogen levels and improve anemia symptoms. It could also improve the quality of life of patients, showing good safety and tolerance. This pretreatment was effective, safe, and generally well tolerated. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Isoproterenol is a drug used for the treatment of bradycardia that has many side effects due to its non-selective β-adrenoceptor agonist properties. Aim: In this study, we evaluated an in vivo experimental model for isoproterenol (ISO) cardiac injury using BALB/c mice and protective treatment with a combined optimized dose of Arctiin (AR) and Lactobacillus plantarum (LP) (ARLP; 30 mg/kg b.w. AR and viable 10
6 CFU/mL LP p.o.) together. Introduction: Isoproterenol causes cardiac injury in many instances. Arctiin is a naturally occurring lignin glycoside present in many herbal medicinal plants that has many beneficial effects for humans. Lactobacillus plantarum is yet another beneficial probiotic that benefits largely to humans. Materials and Methods: Male BALB/c mice in appropriate groups (6 animals each) were treated with ARLP for 7 days with ISO administration (100 mg/kg i.p.) on days 5 and 6. On the 8th day, animals were sacrificed. Serum and heart samples were collected for further processing. CK-MB, cardiac troponin, AST, ALT, LDH, GST, GPx, CAT, SOD, GSH, GSSG, MDA, nuclear factor kappa B (NFκB), TNF-α, and IL-6 by ELISA and gene expressions of nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) were estimated in samples. Results: Mice administered with ISO showed a prominent rise in the serum marker enzyme activities and tissue oxidative stress markers (MDA and GSSG). Furthermore, marked reductions in body weight and enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidant levels were noticed in ISO toxicity. Alterations in proinflammatory cytokines (TNF-α and IL-6) and Nrf2 levels by RT-PCR were analyzed. Histopathology of the heart also indicated cardiac injury in ISO-intoxicated mice. ARLP pretreatment prevented all these cardiac injuries and exerted significant (p ≤ 0.05) prophylactic protection toward cardiac tissue. Further, we analyzed the possible interactions between AR and LP in vitro, to understand the influence of ARonLP, which showed no significant suppressive/antibacterial activity on LP. Evidence for the decays $B^{0}\rightarrow\bar{D}^{0}\phi$ and $B^{0} \rightarrow \bar{D}^{*0}\phi$ is reported with a significance of 3.6$\,\sigma$ and 4.3$\,\sigma$, respectively. The analysis employs $pp$ collision data at centre-of-mass energies $\sqrt{s}=7$, 8 and 13 TeV collected by the LHCb detector and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 $\rm{fb}^{-1}$. The branching fractions are measured to be $\mathcal{B}(B^{0}\rightarrow\bar{D}^{0}\phi) = (7.7\pm2.1\pm0.7\pm0.7)\times10^{-7}$, $\mathcal{B}(B^{0} \rightarrow \bar{D}^{*0}\phi)=(2.2\pm0.5\pm0.2\pm0.2)\times10^{-6}$. In these results, the first uncertainties are statistical, the second systematic, and the third is related to the branching fraction of the $B^{0}\rightarrow\bar{D}^{0}K^{+}K^{-}$ decay, used for normalisation. By combining the branching fractions of the decays $B^{0}\rightarrow\bar{D}^{(*)0}\phi$ and $B^{0}\rightarrow\bar{D}^{(*)0}\omega$, the $\omega$-$\phi$ mixing angle $\delta$ is constrained to be $\tan^2\delta = (3.6\pm0.7\pm0.4)\times10^{-3}$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. An updated measurement of the branching fractions of the $B^{0}_{s} \rightarrow \bar{D}^{(*)0}\phi$ decays, which can be used to determine the CKM angle $\gamma$, leads to $\mathcal{B}(B^{0}_{s}\rightarrow\bar{D}^{0}\phi)=(2.30\pm0.10 \pm 0.11\pm0.20)\times10^{-5}$, $\mathcal{B}(B^{0}_{s}\rightarrow\bar{D}^{*0}\phi) =(3.17\pm0.16 \pm 0.17 \pm 0.27)\times10^{-5}$., Comment: All figures and tables, along with any supplementary material and additional information, are available at https://cern.ch/lhcbproject/Publications/p/LHCb-PAPER-2023-003.html (LHCb public pages)

A study of prompt $\Xi_{c}^{+}$ production in proton-lead collisions is performed with the LHCb experiment at a centre-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of 8.16 TeV in 2016 in $p$Pb and Pb$p$ collisions with an estimated integrated luminosity of approximately 12.5 and 17.4 nb$^{-1}$, respectively. The $\Xi_{c}^{+}$ production cross-section, as well as the $\Xi_{c}^{+}$ to $\Lambda_{c}^{+}$ production cross-section ratio, are measured as a function of the transverse momentum and rapidity and compared to latest theory predictions. The forward-backward asymmetry is also measured as a function of the $\Xi_{c}^{+}$ transverse momentum. A flavor-tagged time-dependent angular analysis of the decay $B_s^{0} \rightarrow \phi\phi$ is performed using $pp$ collision data collected by the LHCb experiment at the center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 6fb$^{-1}$. The CP-violating phase and direct CP-violation parameter are measured to be $\phi_s^{s\bar{s}s} = -0.042 \pm 0.075 \pm 0.009 $ rad and $|\lambda|=1.004\pm 0.030 \pm 0.009 $, respectively, assuming the same values for all polarization states of the $\phi\phi$ system. In these results, the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. These parameters are also determined separately for each polarization state, showing no evidence for polarization dependence. The results are combined with previous LHCb measurements using $pp$ collisions at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV, yielding $\phi_s^{s\bar{s}s} = -0.074 \pm 0.069 $ rad and $|\lambda|=1.009 \pm 0.030$. This is the most precise study of time-dependent CP violation in a penguin-dominated $B$ meson decay. The results are consistent with CP symmetry and with the Standard Model predictions. A flavor-tagged time-dependent angular analysis of the decay $B_s^{0}\rightarrow\phi\phi$ is performed using $pp$ collision data collected by the LHCb experiment at $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV, the center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 6 fb^{-1}. The $\it{CP}$-violating phase and direct $\it{CP}$-violation parameter are measured to be $\phi_{s\bar{s}s} = -0.042 \pm 0.075 \pm 0.009 $ rad and $|\lambda|=1.004\pm 0.030 \pm 0.009 $, respectively, assuming the same values for all polarization states of the $\phi\phi$ system. In these results, the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. These parameters are also determined separately for each polarization state, showing no evidence for polarization dependence. The results are combined with previous LHCb measurements using $pp$ collisions at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV, yielding $\phi_{s\bar{s}s} = -0.074 \pm 0.069 $ rad and $|\lambda|=1.009 \pm 0.030$. This is the most precise study of time-dependent $\it{CP} $ violation in a penguin-dominated $B$ meson decay. Novel quaternary ammonium/magnetic graphene oxide composites (M-PAS-GO) that efficiently remove Cr(VI) ions were fabricated through the introduction of the (3-aminopropyl) triethoxysilane and Fe
3 O4 nanoparticles on the surface of GO, and then modified with n-butyl bromide. The fabricated M-PAS-GO was comprehensively characterized by SEM, TEM, EDX, XRD, Raman spectroscopy and FTIR, and the results manifest that the quaternary ammonium group was introduced onto the surface of GO. Under the reaction conditions of pH 3.20, temperature of 25 °C and M-PAS-GO dosage of 0.01 g/50 mL, 90% of 10 mg/L Cr(VI) ions were removed from the solution within 20 min. The kinetics study indicates that the adsorption process followed the pseudo-second-order model and was surface reaction-controlled. The thermodynamic parameters calculated from temperature-dependent adsorption isotherms suggest that the adsorption process was an exothermic and spontaneous process. The maximum adsorption capacities of Cr(VI) ions on M-PAS-GO composites calculated by the Langmuir model were 46.48 mg/g. Moreover, the reusability and stability of M-PAS-GO demonstrates its economic sustainability. The project is introduced with detail, and new features in MariaDB are presented. The process of the integration of MariaDB, where we first deployed the MariaDB and then ran the unit tests, is described. We also discussed the outlook of this project.

The existing leaf springs for compressors, which were used in a large number, had low stiffness, so a discoid spring was designed. Stiffness performance of discoid springs and flexible leaf springs were compared by FEM (finit element melhod), and 3 arm shapes with better performance were chosen from 8 different arm shapes of discoid springs. 9 different layout modes of the spring group were analyzed and it is found that the discoid spring placed between two flexible leaf springs with equal thickness show better performance. Response surface objective optimization method was used to optimize the distance of the springs in spring groups. After optimization, the radial stiffness is increased as 37.5%. The stiffness of the optimized spring group were tested and compared with the FEM results. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

42. Amorphous titanium carbide on N-defective g-C3N5for high-efficiency photocatalytic NO removal

- Abstract
Photocatalytic NO removal is regarded as an attractive strategy to reduce NO pollution in the air, but the lack of efficient and stable catalysts impedes its applications. Herein, we report on developing Ti3C2supported on N-defective g-C3N5nanosheets (CNX/TC) as an efficient photocatalyst toward NO removal. It is noteworthy that TC changed from crystal structure to amorphous structure during the photocatalytic process. Due to the existence of N vacancies and amorphous structure, the designed CNX/TC composites possess abundant unsaturated sites for adsorption and activation of O2and NO, thus facilitating the removal of NO and inhibiting the generation of NO2. The as-prepared CNX/TC-2 % shows the best activity for NO removal and inhibits toxic NO2generation. The removal rate of NO is up to 48 %, which is about 2 and 4 times higher than those of pure CNXand CN, respectively. In addition, the in situdiffused reflection Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy was used to investigate the NO transfer pathway during the photocatalytic process. This work might provide new insights into the catalytic role of N-defect and amorphous, inspiring the rational design of catalysts in the field of photocatalytic NO removal.

- Abstract
Cyclic penta-twinned noble metal nanocrystals exhibit promising properties due to their unique geometric and electronic structures. However, the controlled synthesis of cyclic penta-twinned nanostructures, especially of noble metals with a high cohesive energy (e.g., Rh), is very difficult, and the corresponding growth mechanism is not fully understood. Herein, we report a facile one-pot hydrothermal approach for the synthesis of cyclic penta-twinned Rh icosahedral nanocrystals. It was found that apart from regulating the surface free energy by changing the concentration or category of the capping agents, the solvent might influence the adsorption ability of the surfactant on the Rh crystal surface, which results in a change in the surface free energy and thus allows the formation of Rh cyclic penta-twinned nanostructures. In addition, due to their unique electronic and geometric structures, the Rh icosahedral nanocrystals exhibit superior catalytic activity and stability for the electrooxidation of ethanol as compared to single-crystal Rh tetrahedral nanocrystals and commercial Rh black. - Abstract
Background: Accumulating studies reported that several phosphodiesterases (PDEs) inhibitors might have cardiovascular benefits., Objectives: This study aimed to explore the relationship between genetically-predicted PDEs and ischaemia heart disease via drug target Mendelian randomization (MR) approach, and then examine the effect of inhibitors of identified target on the outcomes by using real-world data., Methods and Results: In the two-sample MR study, the expression of genes encoding PDEs was used to proxy the level of PDEs and available expression quantitative trait loci (eQTLs) for each target gene were identified as the genetic instruments. The outcomes included coronary heart disease (CHD) and myocardial infarction (MI). In the real-world study, a retrospective cohort was conducted to compare the incidence of outcomes between PDE5 inhibitors and alprostadil use by linking Swedish nationwide registers. MR analyses identified two types of PDEs, PDE5, and PDE8, genetically-predicted expression in blood of the encoded genes was significantly associated with the risk of CHD [odds ratio (OR)PDE5A = 1.22,95% confidence interval (CI) = 1.06-1.40; ORPDE8A = 1.26,95% CI = 1.07-1.49] and MI (ORPDE5A = 1.27,95% CI = 1.09-1.48; ORPDE8A = 1.24,95% CI = 1.04-1.48). Notably, the highest expression of PDE5A was observed in artery aorta, which was also positively related to CHD (OR = 1.17,95% CI = 1.05-1.32) and MI (OR = 1.15,95% CI = 1.02-1.30). Real-world study provided supportive evidence that as compared to alprostadil use, PDE5 inhibitors use significantly reduced the incidence of CHD (adjusted HR = 0.70,95% CI = 0.66-0.73) and MI (adjusted HR = 0.79,95% CI = 0.73-0.84)., Conclusion: This study provided observational and genetic evidence about the protective role of PDE5 inhibition against ischaemic heart disease, indicating the potential of these drugs to be repurposed for ischemia heart disease prevention and treatment., (© The Author(s) 2024. - Abstract
The plant hormone ethylene plays a central role in the ripening of climacteric fruits, such as apple (Malus domestica). Ethylene biosynthesis in apple fruit can be suppressed by calcium ions (Ca2+); however, the underlying mechanism is largely unknown. In this study, we identified an apple APETALA2/ETHYLENE-RESPONSIVE FACTOR (AP2/ERF) transcription factor, MdCYTOKININ RESPONSE FACTOR4 (MdCRF4), which functions as a transcriptional activator of ethylene biosynthesis- and signaling-related genes, including Md1-AMINOCYCLOPROPANE-1-CARBOXYLIC ACID SYNTHASE1 (MdACS1) and MdETHYLENE-RESPONSIVE FACTOR3 (MdERF3), as a partner of the calcium sensor, calmodulin. Ca2+ promoted the Ca2+/CaM2-mediated phosphorylation of MdCRF4, resulting in MdCRF4 recognition by the E3 ubiquitin ligase MdXB3 ORTHOLOG 1 IN ARABIDOPSIS THALIANA (MdXBAT31), and consequently its ubiquitination and degradation via the 26S proteasome pathway. This in turn resulted in lower expression of MdACS1 and MdERF3 and reduced ethylene biosynthesis. Transiently overexpressing various MdCRF4 proteins with specific mutated phosphorylation sites revealed that the phosphorylation state of MdCRF4 affects the ripening of apple fruit. The results reveal that a Ca2+/CaM-MdCRF4-MdXBAT31 module is involved in Ca2+-suppressed ethylene biosynthesis, which delays apple fruit ripening.
