Abstract

This letter focuses on the compression of deep features. With the rapid expansion of deep feature data in various CNN-based analysis and processing tasks, the demand for efficient compression continues to increase. Product quantization (PQ) is widely used in the compact expression of features. In the quantization process, feature vectors are mapped into fixed-length codes based on a pre-trained codebook. However, PQ is not specifically designed for data compression, and the fixed-length codes are not suitable for further compression such as entropy coding. In this letter, we propose an entropy-optimized compression scheme for deep features. By introducing entropy into the loss function in the training process of quantization, the quantization and entropy coding modules are jointly optimized to minimize the total coding cost. We evaluate the proposed methods in retrieval tasks. Compared with fixed-length coding, the proposed scheme can be generally combined with PQ and its extended method and can achieve a better compression performance consistently.

Abstract

Physical unclonable function (PUF) is a promising security primitive for IP protection and user authentication. As there are plenty of reconfigurable resources in a field programmable gate array (FPGA), configurable ring oscillator (CRO) PUF is one of the most hardware efficient PUF designs. Previous CRO PUF designs have relatively improved the yield of challenge and response pairs (CRPs). In this paper, a highly flexible CRO PUF based on FPGA, defined as Transformer PUF, is proposed. The proposed PUF design, which has multiple reconfigurability from XOR gates and multiplexers, can be deformable between different CRO PUFs. Compared with the traditional CRO PUFs, it is more resistant to two common machine learning attack techniques, logistic regression (LR) and covariance matrix adaptation evolutionary strategies (CMA-ES), with a small sample set size. Moreover, the Transformer PUF achieves the highest hardware efficiency among CRO PUFs. The results of the experiment carried out on Xilinx Artix-7 development board demonstrate that Transformer PUF has a good uniqueness of 49.44% and a high reliability of 98.12%.

Abstract

This paper proposes an efficient probability estimation design based on the Logarithmic Binary Arithmetic Coding (LBAC) in the second generation of Audio Video coding Standard (AVS2). The probability estimation process in LBAC is not stable enough in case of violent fluctuation and lack of flexibility in updating speed. The proposed design introduces two regulatory factors to mitigate the violent fluctuation and adjust the probability fluctuation all along the line. It can achieve a higher-precision and more stable probability estimation process with a hardware-friendly architecture. Experiments are carried out on JVET and AVS2 reference softwares, JEM-7.1 and RD-19.2. The results demonstrate that the proposed design can obtain a higher compression performance, up to 0.36% and 0.68% respectively.

Abstract

Physical unclonable function (PUF) is a promising security primitive. Configurable ring oscillator (CRO) PUF is an evolvement of conventional RO PUF, which improves the entropy and decrease the hardware cost by introducing configurability. Compared with other types of PUF structures, CRO PUFs are FPGA friendly. In this paper, a dynamic reconfigurable mechanism is proposed for the CRO PUF in FPGA implementation. Three different CRO PUFs are implemented using the proposed reconfigurable method and each CRO can be implemented in a single configurable logic block (CLB) of FPGA. Based on the partial reconFigure functions provided by Xilinx FPGAs, the PUF structures can be configured to any of the three PUF structures. The experimental results show that the dynamic reconfigurable PUF structure has a higher hardware efficiency, reliability and stability compared with the previous works.

50. Investigation on the Stability of Janus SiO2-nNanoparticle-Assisted Nonionic Surfactant-Stabilized Foam and Its Application in Enhanced Oil Recovery

Abstract

The stability of the foam directly impacts the final efficiency of the foam flooding in enhanced oil recovery (EOR). In the present work, a series of Janus SiO2-nnanoparticles (JSnNPs) with various modification degrees were successfully prepared and employed to improve the stability of the nonionic surfactant polyethylene glycolmonoisodecylether (PMIE)-stabilized foam. The PMIE–JS3 system with a much low JS3 NP concentration (0.1 wt %) displayed extraordinary foamability and stabilizing foam ability via the foam volume, half-life, relative volume decay, and optical microscope photograph measurements. Then, the dynamic surface tension and dilatational viscoelasticity tests were conducted to explore the mechanism. It was found that the PMIE–JS3 system with great interfacial activity and intensive interfacial film highly facilitated the generation of the foam and improved the foam stability. Moreover, the PMIE–JS3-stabilized foam exhibited outstanding stability, even under the influence of crude oil. The sandpack flooding tests indicated that the PMIE–JS3-stabilized foam could effectively plug the high-permeability channels to modify the water injection profile and consequently greatly enhanced tertiary oil recovery (∼15.3% of the initial oil in place).
