Aims To determine if neurologic symptoms at admission can predict adverse outcomes in patients with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS‐CoV‐2). Methods Electronic medical records of 1053 consecutively hospitalized patients with laboratory‐confirmed infection of SARS‐CoV‐2 from one large medical center in the USA were retrospectively analyzed. Univariable and multivariable Cox regression analyses were performed with the calculation of areas under the curve (AUC) and concordance index (C‐index). Patients were stratified into subgroups based on the presence of encephalopathy and its severity using survival statistics. In sensitivity analyses, patients with mild/moderate and severe encephalopathy (defined as coma) were separately considered. Results Of 1053 patients (mean age 52.4 years, 48.0% men [n = 505]), 35.1% (n = 370) had neurologic manifestations at admission, including 10.3% (n = 108) with encephalopathy. Encephalopathy was an independent predictor for death (hazard ratio [HR] 2.617, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.481–4.625) in multivariable Cox regression. The addition of encephalopathy to multivariable models comprising other predictors for adverse outcomes increased AUCs (mortality: 0.84–0.86, ventilation/ intensive care unit [ICU]: 0.76–0.78) and C‐index (mortality: 0.78 to 0.81, ventilation/ICU: 0.85–0.86). In sensitivity analyses, risk stratification survival curves for mortality and ventilation/ICU based on severe encephalopathy (n = 15) versus mild/moderate encephalopathy (n = 93) versus no encephalopathy (n = 945) at admission were discriminative (p, Patients with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 infection have a high prevalence of neurologic manifestations, including headache, encephalopathy, dizziness, taste, and smell impairment. Background Despite its high sensitivity in diagnosing COVID-19 in a screening population, chest CT appearances of COVID 19 pneumonia are thought to be non-specific. Purpose To assess the performance of United States (U.S.) and Chinese radiologists in differentiating COVID-19 from viral pneumonia on chest CT. Methods A total of 219 patients with both positive COVID-19 by RT-PCR and abnormal chest CT findings were retrospectively identified from 7 Chinese hospitals in Hunan Providence, China from January 6 to February 20, 2020. A total of 205 patients with positive Respiratory Pathogen Panel for viral pneumonia and CT findings consistent with or highly suspicious for pneumonia by original radiology interpretation within 7 days of each other were identified from Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, RI. Three Chinese radiologists blindly reviewed all chest CTs (n=424) to differentiate COVID-19 from viral pneumonia. A sample of 58 age-matched cases was randomly selected and evaluated by 4 U.S. radiologists in a similar fashion. Different CT features were recorded and compared between the two groups. Results For all chest CTs, three Chinese radiologists correctly differentiated COVID-19 from non-COVID-19 pneumonia 83% (350/424), 80% (338/424), and 60% (255/424) of the time, respectively. The seven radiologists had sensitivities of 80%, 67%, 97%, 93%, 83%, 73% and 70% and specificities of 100%, 93%, 7%, 100%, 93%, 93%, 100%. Objective. Radiation therapy for head and neck (H&N) cancer relies on accurate segmentation of the primary tumor. A robust, accurate, and automated gross tumor volume segmentation method is warranted for H&N cancer therapeutic management. The purpose of this study is to develop a novel deep learning segmentation model for H&N cancer based on independent and combined CT and FDG-PET modalities. Approach. In this study, we developed a robust deep learning-based model leveraging information from both CT and PET. We implemented a 3D U-Net architecture with 5 levels of encoding and decoding, computing model loss through deep supervision. We used a channel dropout technique to emulate different combinations of input modalities. This technique prevents potential performance issues when only one modality is available, increasing model robustness. We implemented ensemble modeling by combining two types of convolutions with differing receptive fields, conventional and dilated, to improve capture of both fine details and global information. Main Results. Our proposed methods yielded promising results, with a Dice similarity coefficient (DSC) of 0.802 when deployed on combined CT and PET, DSC of 0.610 when deployed on CT, and DSC of 0.750 when deployed on PET. Significance. Application of a channel dropout method allowed for a single model to achieve high performance when deployed on either single modality images (CT or PET) or combined modality images (CT and PET). The presented segmentation techniques are clinically relevant to applications where images from a certain modality might not always be available.

Yes-associated protein (YAP) protein acts as tumorigenic factor in many solid tumors, but the situation in breast cancer is under debate. Here, we would analyze its status in breast cancer. YAP expression in the 110 primary breast cancer and their paired local recurrent tumors was investigated. Clinicopathologic data for age, histologic grading, hormone status, lymph nodes and HER2 status were also gathered and analyzed. 46.4% (51/110) primary breast cancer tissues were positive for total YAP expression which was significantly higher than that in the recurrent tissues (10.9%; P0.05). The expression of total YAP protein in the primary breast cancer tissues was positively associated with the tumor size, especially in triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) subtype (P0.05). Higher total or nuclear YAP expression in the primary tumor was correlated with poor disease-free survival among patients with TNBC (P0.05). In the multivariate models, nuclear YAP expression was an independently prognostic factor in TNBC. High total or nuclear YAP expression predicts poor prognosis among patients with TNBC. It might be a therapeutic target for TNBC in the future.

Triassic deposits in the Bangong-Nujiang Suture Zone are important for understanding its tectonic nature and evolutionary history, but have not been systematically studied due to a lack of biostratigraphic data. For a long time, the Upper Triassic Quehala Group featuring clasolite has been regarded as the only rocky unit. In recent years, the silicite-dominated Gajia Formation that bears radiolarian fossils was suggested to represent Ladinian to Carnian deposits. The Upper Permian and Lower Triassic rocks have never been excavated and thus are considered to be absent. This research, however, reveals that fossils aged from the Late Permian to Anisian of the Middle Triassic and Norian of the Late Triassic have been preserved in the central Bangong-Nujiang Suture Zone, which provides evidence of Upper Permian to early Middle Triassic deposits and provides new insights on the Upper Triassic strata as well. A new Triassic strata succession is thus proposed for the Bangong-Nujiang Suture Zone, and it demonstrates great similarities with those from Lhasa to the south and Qiangtang to the north. Therefore, we deduce that the Bangong-Nujiang Suture Zone was under a similar depositional setting as its two adjacent terranes, and it was likely a carbonate platform background because limestones were predominant across the Triassic. The newly acquired biostratigraphic data indicate that Lhasa and Qiangtang could not have been located on two separate continents with disparate sedimentary settings; therefore, the Bangong-Nujiang Suture Zone likely did not represent a large ocean between them. This conclusion is supported by lithostratigraphic and paleomagnetic research, which revealed that Lhasa and Qiangtang were positioned at low to middle latitudes during the Early Triassic. Combining this conclusion with fossil evidence, we suggest that the three main Tibetan terranes were in the same palaeobiogeographic division with South China, at least during the Latest Permian to Early Triassic. The Early Triassic conodont species Pachycladina obliqua is probably a fossil sign of middle to low latitudes in palaeogeography.

Spinocerebellar ataxias (SCAs) are a large group of hereditary neurodegenerative diseases characterized by ataxia and dysarthria. Due to high clinical and genetic heterogeneity, many SCA families are undiagnosed. Herein, using linkage analysis, WES, and RP-PCR, we identified the largest SCA36 pedigree in Asia. This pedigree showed some distinct clinical characteristics. Cognitive impairment and gaze palsy are common and severe in SCA36 patients, especially long-course patients. Although no patients complained of hearing loss, most of them presented with hearing impairment in objective auxiliary examination. Voxel-based morphometry (VBM) demonstrated a reduction of volumes in cerebellum, brainstem, and thalamus (corrected P 0.05). Reduced volumes in cerebellum were also found in presymptomatic carriers. Resting-state functional MRI (R-fMRI) found reduced ReHo values in left cerebellar posterior lobule (corrected P 0.05). Diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) demonstrated a reduction of FA values in cerebellum, midbrain, superior and inferior cerebellar peduncle (corrected P 0.05). MRS found reduced NAA/Cr values in cerebellar vermis and hemisphere (corrected P 0.05). Our findings could provide new insights into management of SCA36 patients. Detailed auxiliary examination are recommended to assess hearing or peripheral nerve impairment, and we should pay more attention to eye movement and cognitive changes in patients. Furthermore, for the first time, our multimodel neuroimaging evaluation generate a full perspective of brain function and structure in SCA36 patients.

Background Radiologists have difficulty distinguishing benign from malignant bone lesions because these lesions may have similar imaging appearances. The purpose of this study was to develop a deep learning algorithm that can differentiate benign and malignant bone lesions using routine magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and patient demographics. Methods 1,060 histologically confirmed bone lesions with T1- and T2-weighted pre-operative MRI were retrospectively identified and included, with lesions from 4 institutions used for model development and internal validation, and data from a fifth institution used for external validation. Image-based models were generated using the EfficientNet-B0 architecture and a logistic regression model was trained using patient age, sex, and lesion location. A voting ensemble was created as the final model. The performance of the model was compared to classification performance by radiology experts. Findings The cohort had a mean age of 30±23 years and was 58.3% male, with 582 benign lesions and 478 malignant. Compared to a contrived expert committee result, the ensemble deep learning model achieved (ensemble vs. experts): similar accuracy (0·76 vs. 0·73, p=0·7), sensitivity (0·79 vs. 0·81, p=1·0) and specificity (0·75 vs. 0·66, p=0·48), with a ROC AUC of 0·82. On external testing, the model achieved ROC AUC of 0·79. Interpretation Deep learning can be used to distinguish benign and malignant bone lesions on par with experts. These findings could aid in the development of computer-aided diagnostic tools to reduce unnecessary referrals to specialized centers from community clinics and limit unnecessary biopsies. OBJECTIVE: To develop a machine learning (ML) pipeline based on radiomics to predict Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) severity and the future deterioration to critical illness using CT and clinical variables. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Clinical data were collected from 981 patients from a multi-institutional international cohort with real-time polymerase chain reaction-confirmed COVID-19. Radiomics features were extracted from chest CT of the patients. The data of the cohort were randomly divided into training, validation, and test sets using a 7:1:2 ratio. A ML pipeline consisting of a model to predict severity and time-to-event model to predict progression to critical illness were trained on radiomics features and clinical variables. The receiver operating characteristic area under the curve (ROC-AUC), concordance index (C-index), and time-dependent ROC-AUC were calculated to determine model performance, which was compared with consensus CT severity scores obtained by visual interpretation by radiologists. RESULTS: Among 981 patients with confirmed COVID-19, 274 patients developed critical illness. Radiomics features and clinical variables resulted in the best performance for the prediction of disease severity with a highest test ROC-AUC of 0.76 compared with 0.70 (0.76 vs. 0.70, p = 0.023) for visual CT severity score and clinical variables. The progression prediction model achieved a test C-index of 0.868 when it was based on the combination of CT radiomics and clinical variables compared with 0.767 when based on CT radiomics features alone (p < 0.001), 0.847 when based on clinical variables alone (p = 0.110), and 0.860 when based on the combination of visual CT severity scores and clinical variables (p = 0.549). Furthermore, the model based on the combination of CT radiomics and clinical variables achieved time-dependent ROC-AUCs of 0.897, 0.933, and 0.927 for the prediction of progression risks at 3, 5 and 7 days, respectively. CONCLUSION: CT radiomics features combined with clinical variables were predictive of COVID-19 severity and progression to critical illness with fairly high accuracy.

Epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) is a dynamic transitional state from the epithelial to mesenchymal phenotypes. Numerous studies have suggested that EMT and its intermediate states play important roles in tumor invasion and metastasis. To identify novel regulatory molecules of EMT, we screened a siRNA library targeting human 720 kinases in A549 lung adenocarcinoma cells harboring E‐cadherin promoter‐luciferase reporter vectors. NIMA‐related kinase‐4 (NEK4) was identified and characterized as a positive regulator of EMT in the screening. Suppression of NEK4 resulted in the inhibition of cell migration and invasion, accompanying with an increased expression of cell adhesion‐related proteins such as E‐cadherin and ZO1. Furthermore, NEK4 knockdown caused the decreased expression of the transcriptional factor Zeb1 and Smads proteins, which are known to play key roles in EMT regulation. Consistently, overexpression of NEK4 resulted in the decreased expression of E‐cadherin and increased expression of Smad3. Using a mouse model with tail vein injection of NEK4 knockdown stable cell line, we found a lower rate of tumor formation and metastasis of the NEK4‐knockdown cells in vivo. Thus, this study demonstrates NEK4 as a novel kinase involved in regulation of EMT and suggests that NEK4 may be further explored as a potential therapeutic target for lung cancer metastasis.

Impedance-type humidity sensors were fabricated from WO3 particles to which had been added KOH or Au nanoparticles (Au NPs). The humidity-sensing (sensitivity and linearity) and electrical properties of the WO3 were improved. Adsorption dynamic analysis and molecular mechanical calculations revealed that the sensitivity of KOH-added WO3 exceeded that of Au NPs-added WO3. The sensor that was made of the KOH-added WO3 exhibited favorable impedance, high sensitivity, good linearity, low hysteresis, a short response/recovery time and high long-term stability over the studied humidity range. Complex impedance spectra were used to investigate the humidity-sensing mechanism of the KOH-added WO3.

Objective To analyze the routine and functional magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) features and their potential pathological mechanisms of Hashimoto's encephalopathy(HE). Methods The clinical data and routine and functional MRI images of 30 HE patients who were treated in our center from January 2010 to April 2017 were retrospectively reviewed. Among them,15 patients were examined with contrast-enhanced MRI,16 with diffusion-weighed imaging(DWI),8 with magnetic resonance angiography,2 with magnetic resonance spectroscopy,and 1 with both arterial spin labeled perfusion imaging and diffusion tensor imaging. Seven patients had consecutive clinical and imaging data. The distribution,MRI signals,and functional MRI features of HE were analyzed. Results Among 30 HE patients,routine MRI showed negative results in 8 cases and abnormal findings in 22 cases. Among 22 abnormal cases,9 were characterized by small cerebral vascular disease and 13 had non-specific abnormalities;of these 13 cases,12 had lesions mainly located at the supratentorial white matter,11 had multiple lesions,and 2 had lesions complicated with cerebellum atrophy. The lesions were focal or confluent,punctate or small patchy,showing abnormal signal intensity with iso-or hypo-intensity on T1-weighed imaging,hyper-intensity on both T2-weighed imaging and fluid-attenuated inversion recovery. Most of the lesions had no enhancement(12/15). Among 7 cases with abnormalities on DWI,hyper-intensity on DWI and hypo-intensity on apparent diffusion coefficient were seen in 3 sudden acute cases and hyper-intensity on DWI and increased apparent diffusion coefficient value in 4 sub-acute or slow onset cases. Three cases showed localized intracranial artery stenosis. In 2 cases,magnetic resonance spectroscopy revealed significant lower N-acetylaspartate peak,higher choline peak,and visible lactate peak or lipid peak. Of 7 cases with follow-up data,3 cases had no change,4 cases had changes including softening lesions(2/4),remitted and relapsed lesions(1/4),and rapid progression of brain atrophy with negative finding on the initial MRI(1/4). Conclusion Routine MRI combined with functional imaging can show the features of HE from different perspectives. Routine MRI shows multifocal or confluent lesions in the white matter,mostly without enhancement,while functional imaging may reveal pathological characteristics of different phases of acute or chronic ischemia and demyelinating changes of HE. Combined with clinical data,MRI can differentiate HE from other diseases based on routine and functional MRI appearances.

Background Neurologic complications may be the first symptoms of atrial myxomas. Understanding the imaging features of neurologic complications of atrial myxomas can be helpful for the prompt diagnosis. Objective To identify neuroimaging features for patients with neurologic complications attributed to atrial myxoma. Methods We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 103 patients with pathologically confirmed atrial myxoma at Xiangya Hospital from January 2009 to January 2014. The neuroimaging data for patients with neurologic complications were analyzed. Results Eight patients with atrial myxomas (7.77%) presented with neurologic manifestations, which constituted the initial symptoms for seven patients (87.5%). Neuroimaging showed five cases of cerebral infarctions and three cases of aneurysms. The main patterns of the infarctions were multiplicity (100.0%) and involvement of the middle cerebral artery territory (80.0%). The aneurysms were fusiform in shape, multiple in number (100.0%) and located in the distal middle cerebral artery (100.0%). More specifically, high-density in the vicinity of the aneurysms was observed on CT for two patients (66.7%), and homogenous enhancement surrounding the aneurysms was detected in the enhanced imaging for two patients (66.7%). Conclusion Neurologic complications secondary to atrial myxoma consist of cerebral infarctions and aneurysms, which show certain characteristic features in neuroimaging. Echocardiography should be performed in patients with multiple cerebral infarctions, and multiple aneurysms, especially when aneurysms are distal in location. More importantly, greater attention should be paid to the imaging changes surrounding the aneurysms when myxomatous aneurysms are suspected and these are going to be the relevant features in our article.

This study aimed to examine the prognostic factors of luminal B-like breast cancer. Clinical data of 695 luminal B-like breast cancer patients who had been treated in our hospital during the period of past 4.5 years were collected and analyzed. Estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PgR), antigen identified by monoclonal antibody Ki-67 (Ki67) were immunohistochemically detected. Different cutoffs of ER, PgR, and Ki67 were evaluated. Pearson χ2 test was performed to compare categorical parameters. Univariate and multivariate models were used to evaluate predictors of disease free survival (DFS). The results showed that patients who were younger, and had larger tumors, and more positive lymph nodes were more likely to receive neo-adjuvent chemotherapy (NAC). A single moving mass-spring-damper model is adopted to simulate the vehicle model. The equation of vehicle-bridge coupling vibration is derived, using D'Alembert principle and the conditions of displacement compatibility. The dynamic responses of a double cable suspension bridge to the vehicle moving at different speeds are analyzed, considering the geometric nonlinearity and the bridge carriageway irregularity factor, under two types of vehicle loading conditions, namely moving along the center and the eccentric longitudinal axis. Then the influence of vehicle velocity and bridge carriageway irregularity on impact coefficient of double cable suspension bridge is discussed. Single cable suspension bridge can be taken as a special case of double cable suspension bridge, after the main cable shape coefficient is introduced. The dynamic responses of double cable suspension bridge and single cable suspension bridge are compared to reveal the character of vehicle vibration of double cable suspension bridge. The study of the dynamic responses character of double cable suspension bridge has a positive significance on structural form selection of such type bridge during designing, dynamic performance evaluation and vibration control.

GIS attribute data is the property of GIS entity, it has fuzziness and uncertainty. The binary relation for GIS entity object and attribute is meet to the property for approximate space. We choose the object and attribute of GIS information system in our study, use lattice concept, and we think the GIS entities can form partial order relation, and lattice(P(A), ) can form one complete partial order lattice. GIS entities can form hierarchical approximate space in subsection space relation, and the knowledge granularities are thining along with the increasing of attribution.

The corals described in this paper were collected from the Heshilafu Formation at Aitegou section, southwestern margin of the Tarim Basin, southern Xinjiang (=Sinkiang), NW China in 1992. They comprise 29 species included in 24 genera. Three species are new: Fomichevella shacheensis, Auloclisia formosa and Caninostrotion xinjiangensis. The lower and middle parts of the Heshilafu Formation are attributed to the Eostaffella mosquensis zone (Foraminifera, Fusulinida) and the upper part of the Heshilafu Formation belongs to the Pseudoendothyra directa zone. The former correspond to Visean and the latter equivalent roughly to Serpukhovian.

To explore the clinical and imaging features of anoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (AIE) patients after cardiopulmonary resuscitation.A total of 28 qualified AIE patients during the last decade from Xiangya Hospital, Central South University were recruited and analyzed retrospectively.The symptoms of status epilepticus, acute posthypoxic myoclonus, Lance-Adams syndrome, subarachnoid hemorrhage and cognitive deficits were observed. The abnormal findings of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or computed tomography (CT), involving neocortex, basal ganglia and para-ventricular white matter, were also recorded. During the early phase of disease, swollen cortex was present on MRI/CT. However, encephalatrophy appeared during the late phase. The more severe symptoms were observed, the more foci were present on MRI/CT.The etiologies of AIE patients are heterogeneous after cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The clinical symptoms and imaging studies are of prognostic significance.

This paper introduced basic theory of global and local spatial autocorrelation analysis of Exploratory Spatial Data Analysis(ESDA), and analysis the application of ESDA method for regional rural economic. it is investigated the spatial dynamics of regional disparities at the county (city) level in Guangxi by analyzing rural per capita net income data in 2007, with the support spatial statistical analysis module of ArcGIS. Empirical results show that the overall county(city) level spatial disparities of rural per capita net income in Guangxi is great in 2007, and the global Moran'S I is 0.44051, which indicates that there are significant positive spatial autocorrelation. That is, the relatively high(1ow) developed county tends to be located nearby other high(1ow) developed counties more often than expected due to random chance. Local Moran's I scatterplot and LISA (Local Indicators of Spatial Association) cluster map have been used to test the local pattern of the Guangxi rural economic development.

To investigate the value of conventional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and diffusion weighed imaging (DWI) in the differentiation of hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) and acute bilirubin encephalopathy in neonates.The MRI findings along with DWI characteristics in 15 neonates with HIE involving basal ganglia and in 18 neonates with acute bilirubin encephalopathy between November 2006 and June 2008 were retrospectively reviewed.On T1WI, only 5 patients presented hyperintensity in the globus pallidus in the HIE group, but 16 in the acute bilirubin encephalopathy group (p0.01). Nine patients in the HIE group showed hyperintensity in the putamen, but the hyperintensity in the putamen was not found in the acute bilirubin encephalopathy group. The frequency of hyperintensity in the subthalamus in the acute bilirubin encephalopathy group (55.6%) was significantly higher than that in the HIE group (13.3%) (p0.05). Eight patients in the HIE group showed abnormal signals in the other regions on T1WI, but only two patients in the acute bilirubin encephalopathy group (p0.05). On DWI, 7 out of 11 patients with HIE presented hyperintensity in the basal ganglia, while all 10 patients of the acute bilirubin encephalopathy group presented normal in the basal ganglia.Conventional MRI along with DWI is useful in differentiating HIE from acute bilirubin encephalopathy in neonates.

In East Asia the oldest tabulate and rugose corals appeared in the Early and Middle Ordovician. All rugose corals and most tabulate corals appear to have become extinct at the end of the Permian. The Ordovician corals of North China were most closely related to the Americo-Siberian region, but those of South China occupied an independent province. The Silurian corals of Junggar, Hinggan, Mongolia, Altai and Tuva are genera characteristic of the Uralian-Cordilleran region. The South China fauna had a close affinity to that of the East Australia in the Early Silurian, but was more akin to that of the Urals and Central Asia in the Middle and Late Silurian. During the Early and Middle Devonian, there were 5 biogeographic provinces in East Asia, all belonging to the Old World Realm: (1) Arctic province; (2) Junggar-Hinggan province; (3) Uralo-Tian Shan province; (4) Palaeotethyan province and (5) South Chin province. In East Asia, two distinctive zoogeographic provinces are fairly clearly defined: a southern province, with occurrence of Kueichouphyllum and a northern province with occurrences of Gangamophyllum during the Early Carboniferous. In addition, during the Early Permian, a Uralo-Arctic province was dominated by Durhaminidae and a Tethyan province by Waagenophyllidae.

To explore the correlation between microvascular density (MVD) and dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI in the glioma.We examined 35 patients with histologically verified glioma. Gadolinium-enhanced dynamic TurboFLASH imaging was performed preoperatively in all patients followed by conventional MRI. The steepest slope (SSmax) of curve and corresponding Tm1 in "first-pass" phase were obtained by analyzing time-signal curve. All specimens were immunostained with anti-human Factor VIII relative antigen monoclonal antibody postoperatively by streptavidin-peroxidase method to obtain the MVD. The correlation between SSmax, Tm1, and MVD was analyzed.SSmax was positively correlated with MVD (r = 0.640, P0.01). Tml was negatively correlated with MVD (r = -0.671, P0.01).The MVD correlates obviously with SSmax and Tml in the glioma. Analyzing the time-signal curve of dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI is helpful to predict the angiogenesis in the glioma.
