The eutectoid Ti–Cu alloy has the advantages of high strength and hardness. However, the pearlite eutectoid structures with coupled α + Ti2Cu lamellae result in low plasticity. In this study, a Zr alloying method is proposed to suppress the formation of lamellar pearlite and promote a bainite-like morphology. Increasing the Zr content can transform the α lamellae into rod-like laths and the Ti2Cu lamellae into dispersed particles, thereby reducing their embrittlement effect. The α laths are further refined to about 0.27 and 0.37 μm with 30% and 50% Zr addition, resulting in strong grain boundary strengthening effects. As a result, the mechanical properties are enhanced after Zr alloying. The best combination of compressive yield strength, maximum strength, and plasticity is achieved with 30% Zr addition, which is about 1040 MPa, 2505 MPa, and 33%, respectively. The results in this study can offer valuable insights into microstructure optimization and performance enhancement in active eutectoid Ti–Cu systems.

The limited mechanical properties of Al–Si alloys hinder their application in demanding and extreme conditions. The cracking tendency of high-strength aluminum alloys and high-cost of rare-earth elements pose challenges for the large-scale application of aluminum alloys in additive manufacturing. The novel and practical high-speed scanning remelting proposed in this study enables Al–Si alloys to exhibit significant proportion of fine microstructures and nano-precipitates, surpassing the mechanical properties of aluminum alloys fabricated by normal methods with exceptional strength (496.1 ± 5.8 MPa) and plasticity (21.4 ± 0.9%). This in-situ microstructure control method opens new pathways for the application in demanding engineering contexts.

The inferior creep ductility of Inconel 718 (IN718) fabricated by selective laser melting (SLM), which is unable to meet aerospace material specification (≥4%), limits its engineering application. Despite persistent optimization efforts in the SLM process and post-heat treatment, this issue remains unresolved. This study involved SLM fabrication of the modified IN718 with trace amounts of LaB6 and/or P, followed by homogenization and double aging heat treatment. The addition of trace LaB6 notably influenced the recrystallized grain structure and carbide precipitation at grain boundaries, while trace P addition had minimal impact. All samples exhibited similar γ′ and γ″ strengthening precipitates. Creep tests conducted at 650°C/690 MPa revealed that the individual modification of LaB6 showed limited improvement in creep performance and P showed no improvement, but the combined addition of LaB6 and P led to a substantial enhancement in creep performance, especially reaching as high as 8.6% creep strain. This remarkable improvement in creep ductility is unlikely to arise from the altered grain structure and grain boundary precipitates induced by LaB6 but predominantly arises from the synergistic effect of P and B in enhancing resistance to crack propagation during the third stage of creep.

Mg-Gd-Y-Zn-Zr alloy is an important lightweight material in the aerospace field. Wire arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) provides a new route to fabricate large Mg alloy components. Here, a Mg-8Gd-4Y–1Zn-0.5Zr (wt.%) alloy was fabricated using WAAM based on the cold metal transfer (CMT) process. Subsequently, a short-time solid solution + aging treatment was designed to tailor the microstructure. In the as-fabricated condition, the microstructure mainly consisted of fine α-Mg, network (Mg,Zn)3(Gd,Y) eutectic phase, and lamellar γ′ basal precipitate. After 500 °C-1 h short-time solid solution, the eutectic phase rapidly dissolved, the long-period stacking ordered (LPSO) phase formed, and the fine grain was maintained. Due to the good deformation capacity of the fine grains and the kinking deformation capacity of the LPSO phase, the ductility was significantly improved from 5.2 ± 0.4% to 15.5 ± 1.1%. After further 200 °C-64 h artificial aging, dense β′ prismatic precipitates formed. Thanks to the synergistic strengthening of the fine grains and β′ prismatic precipitates, a yield strength of 242 ± 4 MPa was achieved. However, the kinking deformation of the LPSO phase was inhibited, resulting in a drastic decrease of ductility to 6.1 ± 0.5%. Overall, the combination of strength and ductility of the CMT-based WAAM-processed Mg-Gd-Y-Zn-Zr alloy under an optimized heat treatment regime can be superior to those of the cast Mg-Gd-Y-Zn-Zr alloys with similar contents of Gd and Y elements. This work can guide further performance optimization for WAAM-processed Mg-Gd-Y-Zn-Zr alloys.

The high yield ratio and low strain hardening ability of titanium alloys significantly limit their engineering applications. In this work, a Ti65Zr30Cu5 (at.%) alloy with nanoscale α laths was additively manufactured and achieved a high yield strength of 1274 MPa and a high strain hardening rate up to 40% of the shear modulus. Results show that universal basal/pyramidal dislocation reactions occur during the tensile deformation process. This triggers high-density sessile 〈c 〉 dislocation junctions, which accumulate and pin other mobile dislocations. Consequently, abundant dislocation walls are induced, leading to a strong hetero-deformation-induced strain hardening effect.

Abstract Domesticated herbivores are an important agricultural resource that play a critical role in global food security, particularly as they can adapt to varied environments, including marginal lands. An understanding of the molecular basis of their biology would contribute to better management and sustainable production. Thus, we conducted transcriptome sequencing of 100 to 105 tissues from two females of each of seven species of herbivore (cattle, sheep, goats, sika deer, horses, donkeys, and rabbits) including two breeds of sheep. The quality of raw and trimmed reads was assessed in terms of base quality, GC content, duplication sequence rate, overrepresented k-mers, and quality score distribution with FastQC. The high-quality filtered RNA-seq raw reads were deposited in a public database which provides approximately 54 billion high-quality paired-end sequencing reads in total, with an average mapping rate of ~93.92%. Transcriptome databases represent valuable resources that can be used to study patterns of gene expression, and pathways that are related to key biological processes, including important economic traits in herbivores.

Cork taint has devastating effects on the aroma and quality of the wine, which can cause an annual loss of may be up to more than one billion dollars. There are many causes of cork taint, but 2,4,6-trichloroanisole (2,4,6-TCA) is a major contributor, giving the wine a wet-moldy smell. This study provided a comprehensive overview of the occurrence, detection, and control/remediation of 2,4,6-TCA. The occurrence and formation mechanisms of 2,4,6-TCA mainly include microbial O-methylation of chlorophenols and chlorination of anisole. The source of 2,4,6-TCA in wine is the cork or other woodworks, but it is also possible to contaminate wine from the environment. Due to the extremely low odor threshold concentration of 2,4,6-TCA, the effective sample pre-enrichment for instrument identification and quantification is more important. The control/remediation strategies of 2,4,6-TCA mainly include eliminating 2,4,6-TCA in cork and removing 2,4,6-TCA from wine by adsorption. Finally, the challenges and possible future research directions in this research field were discussed and proposed.

Glycyrrhiza uralensis polysaccharides (GUPS) are widely applied in biomedicine and functional food due to their multiple pharmacological activities and low toxicity. Despite their widespread use, the in vivo metabolic profile of GUPS remains poorly understood. To address this gap, we developed a quantitative analysis method that involves labeling GUPS with visible fluorescein (5-DTAF) and near-infrared (NIR) fluorescein (Cy7), resulting in stable conjugates with substitution degrees of 0.81% for 5-DTAF and 0.39% for Cy7. The pharmacokinetic studies showed a biphasic elimination pattern in the blood concentration-time curve following both intravenous and oral administration, consistent with a two-compartment model. Using fluorescence quantification and NIR imaging, we observed that GUPS was distributed to various tissues, exhibiting higher concentrations particularly in liver, kidney and lung. Excretion studies indicated that feces were the major excretion pathway of GUPS after oral administration (60.98%), whereas urine was the main pathway after intravenous administration (31.16%). Notably, GUPS could be absorbed rapidly by gut (Tmax 1 ± 0.61 h) and showed a biological half-time t1/2 26.4 ± 7.72 h after oral administration. Furthermore, the Caco-2 cells uptake studies illustrated that macropinocytosis and clathrin-mediated endocytosis were participated in the transport of GUPS in intestine epithelium. This comprehensive analysis of the in vivo pharmacokinetics of GUPS not only enhances our understanding of its metabolic pathways but also establishes a foundational basis for its clinical application, optimizing its therapeutic potential and safety profile.

Mg-Gd-Y-Zr is an important lightweight material in the aerospace field. However, the engineering applications of large-scale Mg-Gd-Y-Zr alloy components are significantly limited by macrosegregation and microstructure coarsening during the casting process. In recent years, wire-arc directed energy deposition (DED), which has high design and manufacturing freedom, provides a new route to manufacture large-scale metal parts. In this work, a dilute Mg-3.2Gd-0.6Y-0.5Zr (wt.%) alloy, which had a degree of alloying comparable to AZ31 commercial alloys, was fabricated using a wire-arc DED process based on tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding, the microstructure evolution, tensile properties, and impact toughness were investigated. Due to the multiple grain refinement effects, the DED sample displayed a fine-grain structure (12.3 ± 7.4 μm), which was comparable to that of the wrought counterpart. Combined with the ductilizing effects of the fine grain and the Gd/Y solutes, the DED sample achieved a high ductility, which was better than most reported additive-manufactured Mg alloys as well as wrought Mg alloys. The good plastic deformation capacity also endowed the DED sample with good crack propagation resistance under dynamic impact load. We hope this work can help guide the further development of high-performance Mg alloys that are specially designed for the wire-arc DED additive manufacturing process.

ABSTRACTLaser powder bed fusion (LPBF) of multi-scaled structures is a prominent direction pursued by innovative designs and engineering applications. However, understanding the impact of scale effect on the effectiveness of actual structures is a pressing challenge. This work investigates the influence of structure scale on surface morphology and mechanical property by fabricating tensile samples with gauge diameters ranging from 0.2 mm to 5.0 mm. For the hatching scanning strategy, the surface roughness drastically reduces by ∼51% as the diameter increases. This appears to be the coupling results of heat accumulation, molten pool morphology at the end of single-track, overlap between multi-tracks within a layer, and successive rotational buildup between layers. Moreover, decreasing the diameter substantially reduces the tensile strength. Fortunately, a hatching-contour scanning strategy is proposed to eliminate the scale effect of surface morphology and strength. These efforts provide essential guidance for the broader application of multi-scaled structures.

In this study, liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC–MS/MS) was employed to analyze the prevalence of 10 mycotoxins in 140 samples from the Chinese market, aiming to assess the exposure of Chinese individuals to these mycotoxins through the consumption of wine, baijiu, and huangjiu. Mycotoxins were detected in 98% of the samples, with fumonisins (FBs), deoxynivalenol (DON), and zearalenone (ZEN) exhibiting positive rates exceeding 50%. Regarding the exposure of the Chinese population to mycotoxins resulting from alcoholic beverage consumption, fruit wine intake made a relatively significant contribution to aflatoxin exposure, while baijiu showed a relatively significant contribution to ZEN exposure (1.84%). The analysis of the correlation between grape variety, wine region, and mycotoxin content demonstrated that FBs, ZEN, and DON were significantly influenced by grape variety and wine region. This research holds great significance in protecting human life and health, as well as in the production of safer alcoholic beverages.

Color is a crucial sensory indicator of wine quality. However, changes in anthocyanin concentration and profile occur during wine aging, resulting in noticeable reductions in chroma and shifts in hue from purple to brick red. This is because monomeric anthocyanins degrade and derivative anthocyanins form. The rate of color changes can vary depending on complex factors, such as the anthocyanin content of the must, oenological technology, and environmental conditions, which makes the management of red wine color evolution challenging. To address this issue, appropriate winemaking techniques are required to achieve an elegant wine color. This review summarizes the mechanisms related to anthocyanin stability, including glycosylation, acetylation, and derivatization. The review also discusses factors influencing red wine color fading for specific grape varieties and wine appellations, offering time- and cost-efficient techniques to accelerate anthocyanin derivatization and color stabilization.

Lipids are organic nonpolar molecules with essential biological and economic importance. While the genetic pathways and regulatory networks of lipid biosynthesis and metabolism have been extensively studied and thoroughly reviewed in oil crops such as soybeans, less attention has been paid to the biological roles of lipids in rice, a staple food for the global population and a model species for plant molecular biology research, leaving a considerable knowledge gap in the biological roles of lipids. In this review, we endeavor to furnish a current overview of the advancements in understanding the genetic foundations and physiological functions of lipids, including triacylglycerol, fatty acids, and very-long-chain fatty acids. We aim to summarize the key genes in lipid biosynthesis, metabolism, and transcriptional regulation underpinning rice’s developmental and growth processes, biotic stress responses, abiotic stress responses, fertility, seed longevity, and recent efforts in rice oil genetic improvement.

Difenoconazole-loaded (CS-DIF) microcapsules were synthesized by encapsulating difenoconazole into biocompatible chitosan. The physical and chemical properties indicated that the encapsulation and chemical loading rates were 85.58% and 61.98%, respectively. The microcapsules exhibited prominent controlled-release and surface stability performance. The cumulative release rate was only 33.6% in 168 h, and the contact angle decreased by 11.73° at 120 s compared with difenoconazole. The antifungal activity of the CS-DIF microcapsules against Curvularia lunata was confirmed through observations of colony growth, in vitro and in vivo inoculation, mycelium morphology, as well as DNA and protein leakage. The antioxidant enzyme activity of superoxide dismutase, peroxidase, and catalase decreased by 65.1%, 84.9%, and 69.7%, respectively, when Curvularia lunata was treated with 200 μg/mL microcapsules, compared with the control in 24 h. The enzymatic activity of polyphenol oxidase decreased by 323.8%. The reactive oxygen species contents of hydrogen peroxide and superoxide anions increased by 204.6% and 164%, respectively. Additionally, the soluble sugar and soluble protein contents decreased by 65.5% and 69.6%, respectively. These findings provided a novel approach to control the growth of C. lunata efficiently, laying a foundation for reducing the quantity and enhancing the efficiency of chemical pesticides. The CS-DIF microcapsules exhibited a strong inhibitory effect on fungus, effectively preventing and controlling leaf spot disease and showing potential for field applications. This study might be of great significance in ensuring plant protection strategies.

The accurate evaluation of green innovation efficiency is a critical prerequisite for enterprises to achieve sustainable development goals and improve environmental performance and economic efficiency. This paper evaluates the green innovation efficiency of 72 new-energy enterprises by using a hybrid method of Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) and a random forest model. The non-parametric DEA model is combined with the parametric SFA model to analyze the real green innovation efficiency on the basis of removing environmental factors and random factors. Then, the random forest model based on a nonlinear relationship is used to evaluate factors impacting green innovation efficiency. This paper proposes a comprehensive evaluation method designed to assess the green innovation efficiency of new-energy enterprises. By applying this method, companies can gain a comprehensive understanding of the current performance in green innovation, facilitating informed decision-making and accelerating sustainable development.

Quinoa, a globally cultivated “golden grain” belonging to Chenopodium in the Amaranthaceae family, is recognized for being gluten-free, with a balanced amino acid profile and multiple bioactive components, including peptides, polysaccharides, polyphenols, and saponins. The bioactive compounds extracted from quinoa offer multifaceted health benefits, including antioxidative, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, cardiovascular disease (CVD) improvement, gut microbiota regulation, and anti-cancer effects. This review aims to intricately outline quinoa’s nutritional value, functional components, and physiological benefits. Importantly, we comprehensively provide conclusions on the effects and mechanisms of these quinoa-derived bioactive components on multiple cancer types, revealing the potential of quinoa seeds as promising and effective anti-cancer agents. Furthermore, the health-promoting role of quinoa in modulating gut microbiota, maintaining gut homeostasis, and protecting intestinal integrity was specifically emphasized. Finally, we provided a forward-looking description of the opportunities and challenges for the future exploration of quinoa. However, in-depth studies of molecular targets and clinical trials are warranted to fully understand the bioavailability and therapeutic application of quinoa-derived compounds, especially in cancer treatment and gut microbiota regulation. This review sheds light on the prospect of developing dietary quinoa into functional foods or drugs to prevent and manage human diseases.

BackgroundGouty arthritis (GA) is a crystal-related joint disease caused by the deposition of monosodium urate (MSU) crystals, directly associated with hyperuricemia resulting from purine metabolism disorder and/or reduced uric acid excretion. Acute attacks of typical gouty arthritis are generally relieved through the clinical use of NSAIDs, colchicine, or glucocorticoids. However, managing patients with chronic refractory gout poses challenges due to complications such as multiple tophi, gouty nephropathy, diabetes, and gastrointestinal bleeding. While there have been numerous studies on gout in recent years, research specifically regarding chronic refractory gout remains limited. The management of such cases still faces several unresolved issues, including recurrent disease flare-ups and poor patient compliance leading to inadequate drug utilization and increased risk of side effects. In this report, we present a case of successful improvement in chronic refractory gouty arthritis using the biologic agent upadacitinib sustained-release tablets.Case presentationOur case report involves a 53 years-old Asian patient with recurrent gouty arthritis who had a history of over 20 years without regular treatment, presenting with tophi and an increasing number of painful episodes. During hospitalization, various analgesics and anti-inflammatory drugs provided inadequate relief, requiring the use of steroids to alleviate symptoms. However, tapering off steroids proved challenging. We decided to add upadacitinib sustained-release tablets to the treatment regimen, which ultimately improved the patient’s condition. After 6 months of follow-up, the patient has not experienced any further acute pain episodes.ConclusionThis case highlights the potential therapeutic effect of upadacitinib sustained-release tablets during the acute phase of chronic refractory gouty arthritis.

Study region: The Xiying and Heihe River basins, cold and arid mountainous regions of northwestern China. Study focus: In data-limited areas of Northwestern China, satellite- and reanalysis-based precipitation products provide crucial assistance. However, a comprehensive evaluation of their advantages, limitations, and hydrological performance has yet to be ascertained. This knowledge gap impedes a deeper understanding of hydrological processes within the region. This study evaluates the accuracy of ERA5L, IMERG-F, GSMaP-G, and FY4A-QPE from three aspects: time, space, and extreme precipitation. Comprehensive validation was conducted on four products using discharge, flood events, and peak flood simulated by Geomorphology-Ecology-Hydrology Model. New hydrological insights for the region: ERA5L data can be used to build long-term studies on regional meteorological and hydrological trends. IMERG-F is valuable for analyzing extreme precipitation and hydrological events. GSMaP-G is well-suited for identifying precipitation events in the region. It is essential to be cautious of precipitation underestimation when using satellite precipitation products at high elevations and during the winter.This study highlights the differences in accuracy among various precipitation products and provides recommendations for policymakers in selecting data for high-altitude research. It also offers critical information on hydrometeorology and directions for producing high-accuracy precipitation products.

Wire-arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) offers a brand-new method for short process and rapid manufacturing of large magnesium alloy components, which can avoid the formability dilemma faced by Mg alloys due to their poor plasticity. In this study, the relationships between the solidification texture and the anisotropy of mechanical properties/damping capacities of an AZ31 Mg-based alloy fabricated by the WAAM process were studied. The results revealed that the crystallographic texture with the (0001) basal plane along the building direction was promoted by the preferential growth of dendrite arms along the direction of the HCP crystal structure. The (0001) basal texture had a strong influence on the anisotropy of mechanical properties and damping capacities. Compared to the sample with a tensile axis perpendicular to the building direction, the sample with a tensile axis along the building direction displays a simultaneous increase in tensile strength and ductility, which is related to the smaller Schmid factor (SF) for basal slip and better plasticity deformation via non-basal slip and twinning. However, the smaller SF for basal slip also results in a smaller resolved shear stress factor for the breakaway stress during the damping response testing, resulting in lower damping capacities. This work is helpful for further optimizing the mechanical properties and damping capacities of WAAM-processed Mg-based alloys.

This paper investigates the role of chaotic analysis and deep learning models in combustion instability predictions. To detect the precursors of impending thermoacoustic instability (TAI) in a swirled combustor with various fuel injection strategies, a data-driven framework is proposed in this study. Based on chaotic analysis, a recurrence matrix derived from combustion system is used in deep learning models, which are able to detect precursors of TAI. More specifically, the ResNet-18 network model is trained to predict the proximity of unstable operation conditions when the combustion system is still stable. The proposed framework achieved state-of-the-art 91.06% accuracy in prediction performance. The framework has potential for practical applications to avoid an unstable operation domain in active combustion control systems and, thus, can offer on-line information on the margin of the combustion instability.

Stance information has a significant influence on market strategy, government policy, and public opinion. Users differ not only in their polarity but also in the degree to which they take a stand. The traditional classification of stances is quite simple and cannot fully depict the diversity of stances. At the same time, traditional approaches ignore user sentiment features when expressing their stances. As a result, this paper develops a multi-stance detection model by fusing sentiment features. First, a five-category stance indicator system is built based on the LDA model, then sentiment features are extracted from the reviews using the sentiment lexicon, and finally, stance detection is implemented using a hybrid neural network model. The experiment shows that the proposed method can classify stances into five categories and perform stance detection more accurately.

The mechanisms by which alcohol, alcoholic beverages, and their de-alcoholized derivatives affect animal physiology, metabolism, and gut microbiota have not yet been clarified. The polyphenol, monosaccharide, amino acid, and organic acid contents of four common alcoholic beverages (Chinese Baijiu, beer, Chinese Huangjiu, and wine) and their de-alcoholized counterparts were analyzed. The research further explored how these alcoholic beverages and their non-alcoholic versions affect obesity and gut microbiota, using a high-fat diet bee model created with 2% palm oil (PO). The results showed that wine, possessing the highest polyphenol content, and its de-alcoholized form, particularly when diluted five-fold (WDX5), markedly improved the health markers of PO-fed bees, including weight, triglycerides, and total cholesterol levels in blood lymphocytes. WDX5 treatment notably increased the presence of beneficial microbes such as Bartonella, Gilliamella, and Bifidobacterium, while decreasing Bombilactobacillus abundance. Moreover, WDX5 was found to closely resemble sucrose water (SUC) in terms of gut microbial function, significantly boosting short-chain fatty acids, lipopolysaccharide metabolism, and associated enzymatic pathways, thereby favorably affecting metabolic regulation and gut microbiota stability in bees.

Abstract Introduction Cost-utility analysis (CUA) is the preferred form of economic evaluation in many countries. As one of the key data inputs in cost-utility models, health state utility (HSU) has a crucial impact on CUA results. In the past decades, health technology assessment has been expanding rapidly in Asia, yet research examining the methodology and process used to generate cost-effectiveness evidence is scarce. The aim of this study was to examine the reporting of the characteristics of HSU data used in CUAs in Asia and how the characteristics have changed over time. Methods A systematic literature search was performed to identify published CUA studies targeting Asian populations. Information was extracted for both the general characteristics of selected studies and the characteristics of reported HSU data. For each HSU value identified, we extracted data for four key characteristics, including 1) estimation method; 2) source of health-related quality of life (HRQoL) data; 3) source of preference data; and 4) sample size. The percentage of nonreporting was calculated and compared over two time periods (1990–2010 vs 2011–2020). Results A total of 789 studies were included and 4,052 HSUs were identified. Of these HSUs, 3,351 (82.7%) were from published literature and 656 (16.2%) were from unpublished empirical data. Overall, the characteristics of HSU data were not reported in more than 80% of the studies. Of HSUs whose characteristics were reported, most of them were estimated using the EQ-5D (55.7%), Asian HRQoL data (91.9%), and Asian health preferences (87.7%); 45.7% of the HSUs was estimated with a sample of 100 or more individuals. All four characteristics showed improvements after 2010. Conclusion Over the past two decades, there has been a significant increase in CUA studies targeting Asian populations. However, HSU’s characteristics were not reported in most of the CUA studies, making it difficult to evaluate the quality and appropriateness of the HSUs used in those cost-effectiveness studies.

The achievement of fine equiaxed β grain with conventional intragranular (α-Ti+β-Ti) microstructure in additive manufacturing titanium alloy remains a big challenge. We conquer this challenge by synergistically controlling β-grains during both solidification and subsequent thermal-cycles of laser directed energy deposition (DED), and a solution + quenching heat-treatment. Both the strength and plasticity of heat-treated Ti6Al4V3Ni0.05B are superior to those reported new DED titanium alloy and comparable to that of DED Ti6Al4V, because of the fine-equiaxed β-grains with intragranular (α-Ti+β-Ti) microstructure. These findings provide new insight into the grain structure control and the composition design of AM titanium alloy.

An approximate revolution synthesis of magnesium oxide (MgO) nanoparticles has been prepared. For plant growth and development, MgO is essential. The effect and efficiency, respectively, in seed germination, seedling growth, and plant growth were also studied. These analyses examined maize with different concentrations and parameters. The concentration of 500 ppm was tested with extreme results in areas such as plant height, protein contents both in-vivo and in-vitro, and MgO effects shown both in shoot (12.83 ± 0.5 cm) and root (5.37 ± 0.5 cm). Maximum confirmations were fixed with the help of MgO NPs characterization through TEM, SEM, FTIR, zeta potential, and X-ray. The effect of MgO NPs showed a significant increase in root and shoot length, and simultaneous in-vivo studies also showed significant results in plant physiological parameters. In effect, the vital performance in germination rate, potential, and index MgO NPs was higher than the control. Moreover, the performance and absorption of MgO NPs was confirmed by physiological characterization with the help of a UV–Vis spectrophotometer applied to the leaves and roots. It was demonstrated that the influence of MgO NPs is positive and potentially can be used for seedling growth and also for plants. It may bolster farming methods, and help maintain high food quality, quantity, and production.

Robot service failure and subsequent user behavioral responses have emerged as a prominent scientific issue, warranting attention from multiple disciplines. A review of existing literature is crucial to synthesizing and comprehensively evaluating these studies. To this end, the present study undertook a structured systematic literature review to assess the relevant research on the concepts, dimensions, user response (including cognitional and behavioral), and recovery strategies related to service robot failure. Prior studies have largely followed interpersonal service interaction concepts and have identified several major consequences of service robot failure, including emotional and cognitive responses, negative attitudes, attributions of failure, and related behavioral and action-based responses. Notably, recovery strategies for robot service failure can be categorized into two main types: robot-initiated strategy and human intervention strategy. Further research on robot service failure is recommended in five key areas, including exploring the uniqueness of robot service failure, psychologically investigating user responses to robot failure, identifying novel remedy strategies for robot service failures, evolving the concepts of robot service failure and its remedies, and employing mixed-method and complementary research approaches.

In this study, orthogonal experiments were carried out under different processing parameters to tackle the cracking issue of Hastelloy X (HX) fabricated by laser powder bed fusion (LPBF). The metallurgical defects, molten pool characteristics, cracking and residual stresses under various parameters were studied. The results show that when the volume energy density (VED) is controlled within the range of 83.33–200.00 J/mm3, the as-built samples have a greater density and a smoother surface. Cracking propagation occurs mostly along high-angle grain boundaries, and Mo6C carbides develop at cracks and between dendrites, which are liquation cracking characteristics. Cracks can be effectively suppressed by altering the morphology of the molten pool and minimizing residual stress. The cracking density of as-built HX can be lowered by 93% after optimizing the process settings so that the produced samples with nearly full density and minimal surface roughness can be obtained.

Laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF) processed components usually exhibit reduced fatigue performance owing to unavoidable defects at multiple scales, especially when the loading direction is parallel to the building direction. In this study, hot isostatic pressing (HIP) was applied to the L-PBFed Al-4.74Mg-0.70Sc-0.32Zr (wt.%) alloy to enhance the fatigue properties with a focus on the defect (porosities and inclusions) effects, compared with the direct-aged samples. The results demonstrated that HIP induced inconspicuous microstructural effects, but it healed the porosities and promoted oxidation. Therefore, the fatigue crack initiation transformed the oxide-associated porosity into an oxide, with a significant fatigue strength improvement.

Abstract Breast cancer, the most common cancer in women, usually exhibits intrinsic insensitivity to drugs, even without drug resistance. MUC1 is a highly glycosylated transmembrane protein, overexpressed in breast cancer, contributing to tumorigenesis and worse prognosis. However, the molecular mechanism between MUC1 and drug sensitivity still remains unclear. Here, natural flavonoid apigenin was used as objective due to the antitumor activity and wide availability. MUC1 knockout (KO) markedly sensitized breast cancer cells to apigenin cytotoxicity in vitro and in vivo. Both genetical and pharmacological inhibition significantly enhanced the chemosensitivity to apigenin and clinical drugs whereas MUC1 overexpression conversely aggravated such drug resistance. Constitutively re-expressing wild type MUC1 in KO cells restored the drug resistance; however, the transmembrane domain deletant could not rescue the phenotype. Notably, further investigation discovered that membrane-dependent drug resistance relied on the extracellular glycosylated modification since removing O-glycosylation via inhibitor, enzyme digestion, or GCNT3 (MUC1 related O-glycosyltransferase) knockout markedly reinvigorated the chemosensitivity in WT cells, but had no effect on KO cells. Conversely, inserting O-glycosylated sites to MUC1-N increased the drug tolerance whereas the O-glycosylated deletant (Ser/Thr to Ala) maintained high susceptibility to drugs. Importantly, the intracellular concentration of apigenin measured by UPLC and fluorescence distribution firmly revealed the increased drug permeation in MUC1 KO and BAG-pretreated cells. Multiple clinical chemotherapeutics with small molecular were tested and obtained the similar conclusion. Our findings uncover a critical role of the extracellular O-glycosylation of MUC1-N in weakening drug sensitivity through acting as a barrier, highlighting a new perspective that targeting MUC1 O-glycosylation has great potential to promote drug sensitivity and efficacy.

Introduction: Adverse drug reactions (ADR) are directly related to public health and become the focus of public and media attention. At present, a large number of ADR events have been reported on the Internet, but the mining and utilization of such information resources is insufficient. Named entity recognition (NER) is the basic work of many natural language processing (NLP) tasks, which aims to identify entities with specific meanings from natural language texts.Methods: In order to identify entities from ADR event data resources more effectively, so as to provide valuable health knowledge for people, this paper introduces ALBERT in the input presentation layer on the basis of the classic BiLSTM-CRF model, and proposes a method of ADR named entity recognition based on the ALBERT-BiLSTM-CRF model. The textual information about ADR on the website “Chinese medical information query platform” (https://www.dayi.org.cn) was collected by the crawler and used as research data, and the BIO method was used to label three types of entities: drug name (DRN), drug component (COM), and adverse drug reactions (ADR) to build a corpus. Then, the words were mapped to the word vector by using the ALBERT module to obtain the character level semantic information, the context coding was performed by the BiLSTM module, and the label decoding was using the CRF module to predict the real label.Results: Based on the constructed corpus, experimental comparisons were made with two classical models, namely, BiLSTM-CRF and BERT-BiLSTM-CRF. The experimental results show that the F1 of our method is 91.19% on the whole, which is 1.5% and 1.37% higher than the other two models respectively, and the performance of recognition of three types of entities is significantly improved, which proves the superiority of this method.Discussion: The method proposed can be used effectively in NER from ADR information on the Internet, which provides a basis for the extraction of drug-related entity relationships and the construction of knowledge graph, thus playing a role in practical health systems such as intelligent diagnosis, risk reasoning and automatic question answering.

Bark and ambrosia beetles of Scolytinae are well-known forest pests which can cause significant economic losses to trees and timber. Comparative analyses of structural characteristics of mitochondrial genomes (mitogenomes) and phylogenetic analyses could significantly improve our understanding of mitogenomic evolution and evolutionary history of this important group. Here, we have assembled new mitogenome data of four taxa (Euwallacea interjectus, E. fornicatus, E. similis, and Xylosandrus sp.) and presented a comparative analysis with available mitogenomes of Scolytinae. Phylogenetic analyses of Scolytinae were also conducted with different methods and datasets. The four mitogenomes are 15,419–16,265 bp in length and contain 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNA genes, two ribosomal RNA genes, and a control region, except for E. similis wherein the trnI is not detected. All PCGs initiate with either standard start codon of ATN or nonstandard GTG/TTG. TAA codon is used for termination more than TAG and incomplete T. The analysis of nonsynonymous/synonymous mutation ratio (Ka/Ks) of PCGs suggests the highest and lowest evolutionary rates are within nad4 and cox1, respectively. The heterogeneity analyses of different mitogenomic datasets show excluding the third-codon positions from the datasets largely reduce their heterogeneity. Our phylogenetic analyses derived from mitogenome data provide new evidence toward the revision of the distinguishing characteristics of related genera in this subfamily and highly supported most of nodes at deeper and shallow level. The present study highlights the utility of mitogenome data for resolving the phylogenetic framework of bark and ambrosia beetles, although more taxa sampling is needed to elucidate the complicated relationships of Scolytinae.

It is necessary to explore eco-friendly antimicrobial agents to resolve problems such as pathogen resistance and pesticide residues. In this study, Mentha haplocalyx leaf extract was applied to biosynthesize nano silver using a microwave-assisted method. The detailed properties of the nano silver were systematically revealed by several analytical methods. The antifungal activity of nano silver and synergistic antifungal effects of nano silver conjugated with pesticides against Curvularia lunata were determined. Pathogen invasion was significantly inhibited (57.3%) on detached and intravital maize leaves when the concentration of nano silver was 200 μg mL−1, with an inhibition zone diameter of 12.5 ± 1.18 mm. In addition, a clear synergistic antifungal effect of nano silver conjugated with epoxiconazole was observed at volume ratios of 8:2 and 9:1, while the toxicity ratios were 1.18 and 1.11, respectively. These results not only provide a new avenue for pathogen management, but also enable reduced dosages of antibiotics and pesticides to mitigate or avoid emergence of drug-resistant pathogens.

The microbial community structure associated with wine in a wine-growing region is shaped by diverse ecological factors within that region, profoundly impacting the wine flavor. In wine fermentation, fungi contribute more sensory-active biochemical compounds than bacteria. In this study, we employed amplicon sequencing to measure samples from the spontaneous fermentation process of cabernet sauvignon wines from two wine-growing regions in China to study the diversity and structural evolution of fungi during spontaneous fermentation and analyze the correlation between fungi and volatile compounds. The results showed significant differences in fungal community structure and diversity in cabernet sauvignon musts from different geographical origins, and these differences affected the flavor quality of the wines. As alcoholic fermentation progressed, Saccharomyces became the dominant fungal genus and reshaped the fungal community structure, and the diversity of the fungal community decreased. However, the fungal communities of each wine-growing region remained distinct throughout the fermentation process. Furthermore, the correlation between the fungal community and volatile compounds indicated that wine is a product of fermentation involving multiple fungal genera, and the flavor is influenced by a variety of fungi. Our study enhances the comprehension of fungal communities in Chinese wine-growing regions, explaining the regulatory role of wine-related fungal microorganisms in wine flavor.

Based on China’s provincial panel data from 2009 to 2019, this paper empirically tests and analyzes the effects of industrial agglomeration and other important economic variables on industrial green technology innovation efficiency from the perspective of spatial statistical analysis. The results show that the efficiency of China’s industrial green innovation has not changed much during the study period, exhibiting an obvious polarization phenomenon. Moreover, the improvement of the degree of industrial agglomeration is conducive to the regional green innovation efficiency level. This means that industrial agglomeration produces effective environmental and innovation benefits. In addition, the influence coefficient of enterprise-scale is negative, indicating that for Chinese industrial enterprises, the enlargement of the production scale weakens the promotion effect of R&D activities. The influence coefficient of human capital is negative, mainly because the direct effect has a small and positive value, while the indirect effect (spillover effect) has a negative and large value, indicating that the spillover effect of human capital between regions in China is deficient.

Finding a shortest path for a given pair of vertices in a graph drawing is one of the fundamental tasks for qualitative evaluation of graph drawings. In this paper, we present the first machine learning approach to predict human shortest path task performance, including accuracy, response time, and mental effort.To predict the shortest path task performance, we utilize correlated quality metrics and the ground truth data from the shortest path experiments. Specifically, we introduce path faithfulness metrics and show strong correlations with the shortest path task performance. Moreover, to mitigate the problem of insufficient ground truth training data, we use the transfer learning method to pre-train our deep model, exploiting the correlated quality metrics.Experimental results using the ground truth human shortest path experiment data show that our models can successfully predict the shortest path task performance. In particular, model MSP achieves an MSE (i.e., test mean square error) of 0.7243 (i.e., data range from −17.27 to 1.81) for prediction.

Abstract The Mpemba effect is one of the most perplexing puzzles in nature. Although it has been discussed extensively, direct observation of the Mpemba effect is extremely challenging and rare. Herein, we report the first systematic study of the Mpemba effect with water and clearly point out the conditions required for the observation of the Mpemba effect. The results demonstrate that hot water usually has a faster cooling rate than cold water. The initial temperature, temperature difference, shape of the container, and water volume influence the heat exchange and the cooling process. Owing to the influential factors of heat exchange, the Mpemba effect can only be observed under specific conditions. This work helps to clarify doubts and confusion about the Mpemba effect and can offer alternative strategies for energy storage and transfer materials.

The reach of online information transmission has expanded due to the rapid growth of social software and Internet technology, and the negative information generated during the COVID-19 outbreak can confuse the public. Therefore, a new challenge in the prevention and control of epidemics is how to supervise negative public perceptions. This study differentiates negative public opinion communication stages through practical cases and is based on the life cycle hypothesis. In order to examine the evolution and stability tactics of each game subject in each stage of the evolution of public opinion, a three-way evolution game model comprising social platform operators, official media, and opinion leaders is created on the basis of prospect theory. Finally, the advanced epidemic model is used to verify the important impact of cooperation between official media and opinion leaders on curbing the transmission of negative public opinion. It is found that the perceived value of game players on income and loss will significantly affect the trend of the tripartite game strategy, and the cooperative behavior of official media and opinion leaders can effectively promote the benign development of online public opinion.

The holograms in Star Wars have inspired many researchers to capture the whole human body in real-time and present it as an avatar into Virtual Reality (VR). Facial capture is important to achieve this because facial expressions are essential for social interaction. However, facial capture works well only when the face is not occluded. While a VR headset has been widely used as a display device for VR, it occludes half of the face and becomes an obstacle. This paper presents a systematic literature review on facial capture for VR. The survey aims to: review the current state-of-the-art facial capture technologies for VR; identify the types of technologies and context of the use, the methodologies, and theoretical groundings; identify research gaps in facial capture for VR; and identify solutions of facial capture for VR headsets. A realism index is defined to evaluate and compare the collected papers. The results show several technology trends in the facial capture for VR: tracking facial motion with markers, facial capture in headsets using cameras or sensors, facial performance capture, and hologram/volumetric capture. It is shown that the Modular Codec Avatar is the best facial capture method in a VR headset, whereas Metahuman has the best output effects. This paper also proposes that an open-design VR headset is an effective approach to lower the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).

IntroductionIndigenous yeasts are generally found in grapes, vineyards, and natural environments. Sequential inoculation and fermentation with non-Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast (H30) and Saccharomyces cerevisiae (YT13) also improve the flavor of wine.MethodsThis study sequentially inoculated fermented Petit Manseng and natural grape juice with native H30 and YT13 selected from vineyards in Yantai, China.Results and discussionThe sensory characteristics of Petit Manseng wine were evaluated by detecting the primary organic acids, phenolic acid compounds, and volatile ester compounds. The results showed that the lactic acid content of the natural wine fermented sequentially with H30 and YT13 increased by 490 μg/L compared with the control group, while the ferulic acid content was 1.4 times that of the single-yeast fermentation group. Furthermore, butyrolactone and anthocyanidin propionate were present in the mixed fermentation group, increasing the aroma complexity of Petit Manseng wine and providing high-quality yeast resources that increase the regional characteristics when producing dry white wine.

BackgroundPopulation aging accompanied by multimorbidity imposes a great burden on households and the healthcare system. This study aimed to determine the incidence and determinants of catastrophic health expenditure (CHE) in the households of old people with multimorbidity in China.MethodsData were obtained from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) conducted in 2018, with 3,511 old people (≥60 years) with multimorbidity responding to the survey on behalf of their households. CHE was identified using two thresholds: ≥10% of out-of-pocket (OOP) health spending in total household expenditure (THE) and ≥40% of OOP health spending in household capacity to pay (CTP) measured by non-food household expenditure. Logistic regression models were established to identify the individual and household characteristics associated with CHE incidence.ResultsThe median values of THE, OOP health spending, and CTP reached 19,900, 1,500, and 10,520 Yuan, respectively. The CHE incidence reached 31.5% using the ≥40% CTP threshold and 45.6% using the ≥10% THE threshold. It increased by the number of chronic conditions reported by the respondents (aOR = 1.293–1.855, p < 0.05) and decreased with increasing household economic status (aOR = 1.622–4.595 relative the highest quartile, p < 0.001). Hospital admissions over the past year (aOR = 6.707, 95% CI: 5.186 to 8.674) and outpatient visits over the past month (aOR = 4.891, 95% CI: 3.822 to 6.259) of the respondents were the strongest predictors of CHE incidence. The respondents who were male (aOR = 1.266, 95% CI: 1.054 to 1.521), married (OR = 1.502, 95% CI: 1.211 to 1.862), older than 70 years (aOR = 1.288–1.458 relative to 60–69 years, p < 0.05), completed primary (aOR = 1.328 relative to illiterate, 95% CI: 1.079 to 1.635) or secondary school education (aOR = 1.305 relative to illiterate, 95% CI: 1.002 to 1.701), lived in a small (≤2 members) household (aOR = 2.207, 95% CI: 1.825 to 2.669), and resided in the northeast region (aOR = 1.935 relative to eastern, 95% CI: 1.396 to 2.682) were more likely to incur CHE.ConclusionMultimorbidity is a significant risk of CHE. Household CHE incidence increases with the number of reported chronic conditions. Socioeconomic and regional disparities in CHE incidence persist in China.

Coconut oil (CO) and its main ingredients, medium-chain fatty acids (MCFA), present many benefits. Whether MCFA and CO play an equally valuable role in anti-obesity remains unclear. This study compared the anti-obesity effects of CO and MCFA [octanoic acid (C8:0) and decanoic acid (C10:0)] to gain insight into the underlying mechanism. Male C57BL/6J mice were fed either a low-fat diet (LFD) or high-fat diet (100% HFD) replaced with 2.5% MCFA (97.5% HFD + 2.5% MCFA) or 5% CO (95% HFD + 5% CO) for 17 weeks. CO and MCFA ameliorated the HFD-induced abnormal body and adipose depot weights, insulin sensitivity, and energy expenditure (EE), which was associated with brown adipose tissue (BAT) thermogenesis. Furthermore, CO enhanced the expression of thermogenesis markers in BAT, which was consistent with increased BAT activity. CO showed a better effect than MCFA in activating BAT to increase thermogenesis and energy metabolism to combat obesity, which may be attributed to the cooperation of MCFA and other substances in CO. This work provides evidence for the anti-obesity effects of CO, which could be a better alternative to lard in daily diet, rather than pure MCFA.

Additive manufacturing (AM) of titanium alloy entails severe microstructural heterogeneity and layer bands due to diverse thermal histories. While the thermal-microstructure relationship in AM has been reported, the details on how complex thermal histories influence the microstructural evolution have not been so addressed, and the formation of layer bands in multi-layer multi-pass builds is still unclear. To undertake such investigation, a thermal model is firstly calibrated using two part-scale blocks fabricated on differently sized substrates, and then used to study the relationship between key microstructural characteristics and the thermal cycling involved. Results show that the different evolutions of the temperature ranges just underneath the β-transus temperature (Tβ) controlled by the printing path are responsible for the different band distributions at the centre and corner of the blocks. Also, the α sizes in the normal region are closely linked to the integral area obtained from the thermal curve as temperature fluctuates between Tβ and α dissolution temperature, which helps linking AM variables to metallurgy. This further demonstrates that the α coarsening during thermal cycles is primarily driven by multi dissolution and precipation transformations instead of Ostwald ripening. Finally, the quantitative thermal-microstructure-microhardness relationship is established, helpful for the microstructural design.

Increasing penetration of wind power with intermittency and variability threatens the stability of the power system frequency. The fast response capability of the energy storage system (ESS) makes it an effective measure to improve frequency regulation performance. However, designing an optimal control for numerous energy storage units (ESUs) with different power and energy characteristics is challenging. To solve the dilemma that the distributed control methods cannot achieve optimality over time horizons while the centralized optimization methods would cause high computational burdens, a bi-layer optimal control approach is proposed in this study. In the upper layer, a multi-area secondary frequency control (SFC) problem is established to determine control policies for ESS clusters under continuous wind power fluctuations and is solved by the Itô theory-based stochastic optimization (ITB-SO) method with high computational efficiency in a rolling-horizon manner. In the lower layer, the power output of ESUs is dispatched and coordinated using the distributed algorithm (DA) method via communication networks, considering different characteristics and the current state-of-charge (SoC) levels. Simulation studies carried out in a dual-region test system evidence the improvement of system frequency stability by compensating for rapid wind power fluctuations immediately via ESSs. The results show that the proposed ITB-SO method without scenario generation is suitable for real-time SFC for the ESS. The effectiveness of the DA method and its robustness in encountering loss of communication links are also verified.

This study involves the estimation of a key epidemiological parameter for evaluating and monitoring the transmissibility of a disease. The time-varying reproduction number is the index for quantifying the transmissibility of infectious diseases. Accurate and timely estimation of the time-varying reproduction number is essential for optimizing non-pharmacological interventions and movement control orders during epidemics. The time-varying reproduction number for the second wave of the pandemic in Fiji is estimated using the popular EpiEstim R package and the publicly available COVID-19 data from 19 April 2021 to 1 December 2021. Our findings show that the non-pharmacological interventions and movement control orders introduced and enforced by the Fijian Government had a significant impact in preventing the spread of COVID-19. Moreover, the results show that many restrictions were either relaxed or eased when the time-varying reproduction number was below the threshold value of 1. The results have provided some information on the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic that could be used in the future as a guide for public health policymakers in Fiji. Estimation of time-varying reproduction numbers would be helpful for continuous monitoring of the effectiveness of the current public health policies that are being implemented in Fiji.

In this study, the effect of triple-cycling heat treatment on the microstructure, phase, and compression behaviour of directed energy deposited (DED) Ti-7Mo alloy was investigated with a focus on a non-equilibrium to equilibrium microstructure transition. As a result of thermal accumulation, in situ cycling, and rapid solidification, the as-deposited sample presents a continuous gradient microstructure with α-Ti in the top region and α+β in the bottom region. After the triple-cycling heat treatment, the α+β Ti at the bottom region, which is non-equilibrium, changes to a state of equilibrium near α-Ti. Meanwhile, the microstructure becomes more uniform throughout the entire sample. The morphology of the α-Ti phase changes from acicular to a short rode-like shape with increases in the number of dimensions. In terms of the mechanical properties, both the microhardness and compression properties were improved, particularly with respect to the fracture characteristics. The heat-treated sample possesses a much higher ductility than the brittle fractural behaviour. This work provides new insights into the microstructure and property optimisation and homogenisation of DED-processed Ti-based components with cycling heat treatment.

Abstract Copper oxide (CuO) nanoparticles were synthesised from Ginkgo biloba L. leaf extract and several parameters that affected their formation were adjusted. The optimal synthesis system was ascertained as 10 ml leaf filtrate, 1 mM copper sulfate, and 80°C. The scanning electron microscope image showed that the synthesised CuO nanoparticles were shaped like a short rod. The antifungal effect of CuO nanoparticles against Bipolaris maydis was operated through agar well diffusion, mycelial growth, spore germination, and detached inoculation. At the concentration of 200 µg/ml, the suppression rate was up to 62.78%, and the spore germination was totally inhibited irrespective of suspension in a liquid or on detached maize leaf. The results are of great significance for comprehensive control of plant diseases, and it also provides a novel antimicrobial to assist or substitute chemical pesticides.

In this study, the development of surface features of Inconel 718 samples fabricated by selective laser melting under different laser powers and scanning speeds has been studied and correlated with the powder melting behaviors through both experimental and modeling approaches. The interaction between laser beam and powder particles was studied by a three-dimensional model using the height function-lattice Boltzmann method. Different process parameters were introduced to perform the simulations, revealing the underlying physics of the surface morphology. Through the calculation of the surface forces, some new insights were given about the powder melting behaviors and the resultant surface features. It was found that the surface tension rather than recoil pressure pulled the melted powder into the molten pool during the SLM process. As for low energy input, the powder tended to fuse together with the neighboring particles before entering the molten pool, which was found to be the main cause of the formation of surface fluctuations and the subsequent surface pores. To some extent, the existence of recoil pressure was favorable for a relatively stable flow and a flat surface morphology. The simulation results of the top surface morphology were compared with experimental results, and they were in good agreement.

Abstract Objectives This study aimed to assess the health utility of leukemia patients in China using the EQ-5D-5L, compare it with the population norms, and identify the potential factors associated with health utility. Methods A hospital based cross-sectional survey was conducted in three tertiary hospitals from July 2015 to February 2016. A total of 186 patients with leukemia completed the EQ-5D-5L and their health utility scores were calculated using the Chinese value set. While graph drawing focuses more on the aesthetic representation of node-link diagrams, graph visualization takes into account other visual metaphors making them useful for graph exploration tasks in information visualization and visual analytics. Although there are aesthetic graph drawing criteria that describe how a graph should be presented to make it faster and more reliably explorable, many controlled and uncontrolled empirical user studies flourished over the past years. The goal of them is to uncover how well the human user performs graph-specific tasks, in many cases compared to previously designed graph visualizations. Due to the fact that many parameters in a graph dataset as well as the visual representation of them might be varied and many user studies have been conducted in this space, a state-of-the-art survey is needed to understand evaluation results and findings to inform the future design, research, and application of graph visualizations. In this article, we classify the present literature on the topmost level into graph interpretation, graph memorability, and graph creation where the users with their tasks stand in focus of the evaluation, not the computational aspects. As another outcome of this work, we identify the white spots in this field and sketch ideas for future research directions.

In the field of flexible electronics manufacturing, inkjet printing technology is a research hotspot, and it is key to developing low-temperature curing conductive inks that meet printing requirements and have suitable functions. Herein, methylphenylamino silicon oil (N75) and epoxy-modified silicon oil (SE35) were successfully synthesized through functional silicon monomers, and they were used to prepare silicone resin 1030H with nano SiO2. 1030H silicone resin was used as the resin binder for silver conductive ink. The silver conductive ink we prepared with 1030H has good dispersion performance with a particle size of 50–100 nm, as well as good storage stability and excellent adhesion. Additionally, the printing performance and conductivity of the silver conductive ink prepared with n,n-dimethylformamide (DMF): proprylene glycol monomethyl ether (PM) (1:1) as solvent are better than those of the silver conductive ink prepared by DMF and PM solvent. Cured at a low temperature of 160 °C, the resistivity of 1030H-Ag-82%-3 conductive ink is 6.87 × 10−6 Ω·m, and that of 1030H-Ag-92%-3 conductive ink is 0.564 × 10−6 Ω·m, so the low-temperature curing silver conductive ink has high conductivity. The low-temperature curing silver conductive ink we prepared meets the printing requirements and has potential for practical applications.
