Abstract Pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) can result in irreversible damage and lead to tuberculous destructive lung (TDL), a severe chronic lung disease that is associated with a high mortality rate. Additionally, pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a hemodynamic disorder that can be caused by lung diseases. The objective of this study is to investigate the risk factors associated with PH in active TB patients diagnosed with TDL. We conducted a retrospective review of the medical records of 237 patients who were diagnosed with TDL, active pulmonary tuberculosis, and underwent echocardiography at the Third People’ Hospital of Shenzhen from January 1, 2016, to June 30, 2023. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed to identify factors that correlated with the development of pulmonary hypertension. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses revealed that several factors were associated with an increased risk of pulmonary hypertension (PH) in individuals with tuberculosis destroyed lung (TDL). These factors included age (OR = 1.055), dyspnea (OR = 10.728), D-dimer (OR = 1.27), PaCO2 (OR = 1.040), number of destroyed lung lobes (OR = 5.584), bronchiectasis (OR = 3.205), and chronic pleuritis (OR = 2.841). When age, D-dimer, PaCO2, and number of destroyed lung lobes were combined, the predictive value for PH in patients with TDL was found to be 80.6% (95% CI 0.739–0.873),with a sensitivity of 76.6% and specificity of 73.2%. Advanced age, elevated D-dimer levels, hypercapnia, and severe lung damage were strongly correlated with the onset of PH in individuals with active pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) and TDL. Furthermore, a model incorporating age, D-dimer, PaCO2, and the number of destroyed lung lobes might be valuable in predicting the occurrence of PH in patients with active PTB and TDL.

Abstract Osteosarcoma (OS) is the most prevalent primary malignancy of bone in children and adolescents. It is extremely urgent to develop a new therapy for OS. In this study, the GSE14359 chip from the GEO database was used to screen differentially expressed genes in OS. DNA polymerase epsilon 2 (POLE2) was confirmed to overexpress in OS tissues and cell lines by immunohistochemical staining, qPCR and Western blot. Knockdown of POLE2 inhibited the proliferation and migration of OS cells in vitro, as well as the growth of tumors in vivo, while the apoptosis rate was increased. Bioinformatics analysis revealed that CD44 and Rac signaling pathway were the downstream molecule and pathway of POLE2, which were inhibited by knockdown of POLE2. POLE2 reduced the ubiquitination degradation of CD44 by acting on MDM2. Moreover, knockdown of CD44 inhibited the tumor-promoting effects of POLE2 overexpression on OS cells. In conclusion, POLE2 augmented the expression of CD44 via inhibiting MDM2-mediated ubiquitination, and then activated Rac signaling pathway to influence the progression of OS, indicating that POLE2/CD44 might be potential targets for OS treatment.

Summary: Background: A variety of symptoms, particularly cognitive, psychiatric and neurological symptoms, may persist for a long time among individuals recovering from COVID-19. However, the underlying mechanism of these brain abnormalities remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the long-term neuroimaging effects of COVID-19 infection on brain functional activities using resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI). Methods: Fifty-two survivors 27 months after infection (mild-moderate group: 25 participants, severe-critical: 27 participants), from our previous community participants, along with 35 healthy controls, were recruited to undergo fMRI scans and comprehensive cognitive function measurements. Participants were evaluated by subjective assessment of Cognitive Failures Questionnaire-14 (CFQ-14) and Fatigue Scale-14 (FS-14), and objective assessment of Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), N-back, and Simple Reaction Time (SRT). Each had rs-fMRI at 3T. Measures such as the amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation (ALFF), fractional amplitude of low-frequency fluctuations (fALFF), and regional homogeneity (ReHo) were calculated. Findings: Compared with healthy controls, survivors of mild-moderate acute symptoms group and severe-critical group had a significantly higher score of cognitive complains involving cognitive failure and mental fatigue. However, there was no difference of cognitive complaints between two groups of COVID-19 survivors. The performance of three groups was similar on the score of MoCA, N-back and SRT. The rs-fMRI results showed that COVID-19 survivors exhibited significantly increased ALFF values in the left putamen (PUT.L), right inferior temporal gyrus (ITG.R) and right pallidum (PAL.R), while decreased ALFF values were observed in the right superior parietal gyrus (SPG.R) and left superior temporal gyrus (STG.L). Additionally, decreased ReHo values in the right precentral gyrus (PreCG.R), left postcentral gyrus (PoCG.L), left calcarine fissure and surrounding cortex (CAL.L) and left superior temporal gyrus (STG.L). Furthermore, significant negative correlations between the ReHo values in the STG.L, and CFQ-14 and mental fatigue were found. Interpretation: This long-term study suggests that individuals recovering from COVID-19 continue to experience cognitive complaints, psychiatric and neurological symptoms, and brain functional alteration. The rs-fMRI results indicated that the changes in brain function in regions such as the putamen, temporal lobe, and superior parietal gyrus may contribute to cognitive complaints in individuals with long COVID even after 2-year infection. BackgroundAdenocarcinoma is a common histological subtype of cervical cancer, accounting for 10–15% of all cases. The prognosis of cervical adenocarcinoma with distant organ metastases remains unclear. Therefore, our study aimed to investigate the patterns and prognosis of distant organ metastasis in cervical adenocarcinoma.MethodsWe obtained data from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database spanning from 2010 to 2019. Cox regression, Kaplan–Meier, and log-rank analyses were conducted.ResultsWe observed that adenocarcinoma (AC) of the cervix primarily metastasizes to single organs, with a rate of 73.3%. The lungs are the most common organs of metastasis, followed by the liver and bones. Patients with bone metastases have a median survival period of 12 months, which is slightly longer compared to metastasis in other organs. Abstract The Xpert MTB/RIF test (Xpert) can help in the accurate screening of tuberculosis, however, its widespread use is limited by its high cost and lack of accessibility. Pooling of sputum samples for testing is a strategy to cut expenses and enhance population coverage but may result in a decrease in detection sensitivity due to the dilution of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) by sample mixing. We investigated how the mixing ratio affected the detection performance of Xpert. We used frozen sputum samples that had been kept after individual Xpert assays of the sputa from Mtb-confirmed TB patients and non-TB patients. Our results showed that the overall sensitivity of the Xpert pooling assay remained higher than 80% when the mixing ratio was between 1/2 and 1/8. When the mixing ratio was raised to 1/16, the positive detection rate fell to 69.0%. For patients with either a high sputum Mtb smear score ≥ 2+, a time-to-positive culture ≤ 10 days, or an Xpert test indicating a high or medium abundance of bacteria, the pooling assay positivity rates were 93.3%, 96.8%, and 100% respectively, even at a 1/16 mixing ratio. For participants with cavities and cough, the pooling assay positivity rates were 86.2% and 90.0% at a 1/8 ratio, higher than for those without these signs. Our results show that the Xpert pooled assay has a high overall sensitivity, especially for highly infectious patients. This pooling strategy with lower reagent and labor costs could support TB screening in communities with limited resources, thereby facilitating reductions in the community transmission and incidence of TB worldwide.

Engineering constructions in coastal areas not only affect existing landslides, but also induce new landslides. Variation of the water level makes the coastal area a geological hazard-prone. Prediction of the slope displacement based on monitoring data plays an important role in early warning of potential landslide and slope failure, and supports the risk management of hazards. Given the complex characteristic of the slope deformation, we proposed a prediction model using random coefficient model under the frame of panel data analysis, so as to take the correlation among monitoring points into consideration. In addition, we classified the monitoring data using Gaussian mixture model, to take the temporal-spatial characteristics into consideration. Monitoring data of Guobu slope was used to validate the model. Results indicated that the proposed model have a better performance in prediction accuracy. We also compared the proposed model with the BP neural network model and temporal – temperature model, and found that the prediction accuracy of the proposed model is better than those of the two control models.

Multichannel radars generally need to utilize a certain amount of training samples to estimate the covariance matrix of clutter for target detection. Due to factors such as severe terrain fluctuations and complex electromagnetic environments, the training samples usually have different statistical characteristics from the data to be detected. One of the most common scenarios is that all data have the same clutter covariance matrix structure, while different data have different power mismatches, called power heterogeneous characteristics. For detection problems in the power heterogeneous clutter environments, we propose detectors based on alternate estimation, using the generalized likelihood ratio test (GLRT) criterion, Rao criterion, Wald criterion, Gradient criterion, and Durbin criterion. Monte Carlo simulation experiments and real data indicate that the detector based on the Rao criterion has the highest probability of detection (PD). Furthermore, when signal mismatch occurs, the detector based on the GLRT criterion has the best selectivity, while the detector based on the Durbin criterion has the most robust detection performance.

To solve the problem of increased grain impurity rate and grain loss rate caused by clogging of sieve holes during the cleaning process of ratooning rice, a spiral step cleaning device was designed, which disturbed the flow field at the sieve holes through vortex in the slot and disrupted the force balance of the blockages at the sieve holes. The device mainly includes a cleaning separation core and a cleaning separation core shell. Firstly, the main parameters of the cleaning separation core were determined, and the critical shear airflow velocity was obtained through theoretical analysis. Through energy loss analysis, the fan wind speed was determined to be 11.5 m/s. Secondly, the CFD-DEM coupling method was used to analyze the flow patterns inside the slot and the movement patterns of blockages on the sieve surface, confirming the effectiveness of vortex guided blockage removal. Finally, a prototype was designed and built for testing, and the results showed that when the wind speed of the fan was 11.5 m/s, the grain impurity rate was 1.35%, the grain loss rate was 2.13%, and the average sieve blockage rate was ≤0.1%. All indicators were better than traditional cleaning devices and could meet the cleaning requirements. During the continuous operation of the spiral step cleaning device, performance indicators such as sieve hole blockage rate remained basically unchanged.

Abstract Traumatic brain injury (TBI) accelerates fracture healing, but the underlying mechanism remains largely unknown. Accumulating evidence indicates that the central nervous system (CNS) plays a pivotal role in regulating immune system and skeletal homeostasis. However, the impact of CNS injury on hematopoiesis commitment was overlooked. Here, we found that the dramatically elevated sympathetic tone accompanied with TBI-accelerated fracture healing; chemical sympathectomy blocks TBI-induced fracture healing. TBI-induced hypersensitivity of adrenergic signaling promotes the proliferation of bone marrow hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) and swiftly skews HSCs toward anti-inflammation myeloid cells within 14 days, which favor fracture healing. Knockout of β3- or β2-adrenergic receptor (AR) eliminate TBI-mediated anti-inflammation macrophage expansion and TBI-accelerated fracture healing. RNA sequencing of bone marrow cells revealed that Adrb2 and Adrb3 maintain proliferation and commitment of immune cells. Importantly, flow cytometry confirmed that deletion of β2-AR inhibits M2 polarization of macrophages at 7th day and 14th day; and TBI-induced HSCs proliferation was impaired in β3-AR knockout mice. Moreover, β3- and β2-AR agonists synergistically promote infiltration of M2 macrophages in callus and accelerate bone healing process. Thus, we conclude that TBI accelerates bone formation during early stage of fracture healing process by shaping the anti-inflammation environment in the bone marrow. These results implicate that the adrenergic signals could serve as potential targets for fracture management.

Abstract The immune microenvironment extensively participates in tumorigenesis as well as progression in osteosarcoma (OS). However, the landscape and dynamics of immune cells in OS are poorly characterized. By analyzing single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) data, which characterize the transcription state at single-cell resolution, we produced an atlas of the immune microenvironment in OS. The results suggested that a cluster of regulatory dendritic cells (DCs) might shape the immunosuppressive microenvironment in OS by recruiting regulatory T cells. We also found that major histocompatibility complex class I (MHC-I) molecules were downregulated in cancer cells. The findings indicated a reduction in tumor immunogenicity in OS, which can be a potential mechanism of tumor immune escape. Of note, CD24 was identified as a novel “don’t eat me” signal that contributed to the immune evasion of OS cells. Altogether, our findings provide insights into the immune landscape of OS, suggesting that myeloid-targeted immunotherapy could be a promising approach to treat OS.

The synergistic effects of photothermal therapy (PTT) and photodynamic therapy (PDT) has attracted considerable attention in the field of cancer therapy because of its excellent anti-tumor effect. This work provides a novel pH/NIR responsive therapeutic nanoplatform, IrO2@ZIF-8/BSA-FA (Ce6), producing a synergistic effect of PTT-PDT in the treatment of osteosarcoma. Iridium dioxide nanoparticles (IrO2 NPs) with exceptional catalase-like activity and PTT effects were synthesized by a hydrolysis method and decorated with zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) shell layer to promote the physical absorption of Chlorin e6 (Ce6), and further functionalized with bovine serum albumin-folate acid (BSA-FA) for targeting tumor cells. The IrO2@ZIF-8/BSA-FA nanocomposite indicated an outstanding photothermal heating conversion efficiency of 62.1% upon laser irradiation. In addition, the Ce6 loading endows nanoplatform with the capability to induce cell apoptosis under 660 nm near-infrared (NIR) laser irradiation through a reactive oxygen species (ROS)-mediated mechanism. It was further testified that IrO2@ZIF-8/BSA-FA can function as a catalase and convert the endogenous hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) into oxygen (O2) to improve the local oxygen pressure under the acidic tumor microenvironment (TME), which could subsequently amplified PDT-mediated ROS cell-killing performance via relieving hypoxia microenvironment of tumor. Both in vitro and in vivo experimental results indicated that the nanomaterials were good biocompatibility, and could remarkably achieve tumor-specific and enhanced combination therapy outcomes as compared with the corresponding PTT or PDT monotherapy. Taken together, this work holds great potential to design an intelligent multifunctional therapeutic nanoplatform for cancer therapy.

As a controllable biological process, regulated cell death (RCD) extensively participates in cellular homeostasis, organismal development, and the pathogenesis of diseases. This review addresses the research gaps by synthesising the findings on the complexity of RCD modes and their role in disc degeneration, and summarises the preclinical strategies to alleviate disc degeneration and promote disc repair by regulating RCD. Background: Intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD) is the major source of chronic low back pain. As a controllable biological process, regulated cell death (RCD) extensively participates in the pathogenesis of IDD. Nevertheless, the initiation and progression of RCD remain unclear, and more importantly, the interaction between different RCD modes during IDD and therapy is far from well understood. Methods: Literature search was performed using “regulated cell death AND intervertebral disc degeneration” in PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science. Meanwhile, relevant findings have been reviewed and quoted. Results: In this review, we discuss the inducing factors of IDD, various modes of RCD in intervertebral disc, the interactions between different RCD modes, as well as the obstacles to achieve disc regeneration. Meanwhile, the research gaps and perspective in studies that targeting RCD are also presented. Conclusion: Increasing evidence demonstrated the presence of different RCD modes in intervertebral disc during the progression of IDD. RCD in the resident disc cells is probably induced by the multiple factors such as abnormal mechanical loading, nutritional imbalance, inflammation microenvironment, circadian rhythm changes, withdraw of hormones, and other biomechanical factors. A better understanding of the fundamental mechanisms and the interactions between different RCD modes might contribute to the rescuing of disc degeneration and development of promising therapeutics. Translational potential statement: The Translational potential of this article. This review aims to demonstrate a better understanding of the fundamental mechanisms governing RCD, which might contribute to the rescuing of disc degeneration and to the development of promising therapeutics in a clinical setting.

To promote the germination of rice panicles during the regeneration season, it is necessary to ensure a stubble height of 300–450 mm when mechanically harvesting the first-season rice. However, due to variations in the depth of the paddy soil and fluctuations in the height of the header during harvesting, maintaining the desired stubble height becomes challenging, resulting in a significant impact on the yield during the regeneration season. This study presents the design of an adaptive profiling header capable of adjusting the height and level of the header adaptively. Based on the theoretical analysis of the profiling mechanism, a quadratic regression orthogonal rotation combination experiment is designed. Considering the actual field conditions, the range of each factor is determined, and simulation experiments are conducted based on the MBD-DEM coupling to establish a mathematical regression model between each factor and indicator. In the case of the profiling wheel linkage length of 562 mm, profiling wheel width of 20 mm, and profiling wheel mass of 3.6 kg, the supporting force of the header on the profiling wheel would be greater than zero, the supporting force of soil on the profiling wheel and the depth of soil subsidence represent the smallest values, and the highest sensitivity and accuracy of the profiling wheel are achieved. Bench tests demonstrated that the header exerts a force on the profiling wheel, confirming the normal functioning of the profiling. The average magnitudes of forces exerted by the soil on the profiling wheel are obtained to be 31.98 N, 31.63 N, and 30.86 N, whereas the corresponding average soil subsidence depths are obtained as 3.4 mm, 5.6 mm, and 8.3 mm, aligning closely with the simulation values. The results indicate that the profiling mechanism achieves high accuracy in ground profiling and that the structural design is reasonable. By employing fuzzy PID control to adjust the height of the header, the average error in adjustment is obtained as 6.75 mm, while the average error in the horizontal adjustment is derived as 0.64°. The header adjustment is fast, offering high positioning accuracy, thereby meeting the harvesting requirements of the first season of ratooning rice.

(1) Annexins are proteins that bind phospholipids and calcium ions in cell membranes and mediate signal transduction between Ca2+ and cell membranes. They play key roles in plant immunity. (2) In this study, virus mediated gene silencing and the heterologous overexpression of TaAnn12 in Arabidopsis thaliana Col-0 trials were used to determine whether the wheat annexin TaAnn12 plays a positive role in plant disease resistance. (3) During the incompatible interaction between wheat cv. Suwon 11 and the Puccinia striiformis f. sp. tritici (Pst) race CYR23, the expression of TaAnn12 was significantly upregulated at 24 h post inoculation (hpi). Silencing TaAnn12 in wheat enhanced the susceptibility to Pst. The salicylic acid hormone contents in the TaAnn12-silenced plants were significantly reduced. The overexpression of TaAnn12 in A. thaliana significantly increased resistance to Pseudomonas syringae pv. tomato DC3000, and the symptoms of the wild-type plants were more serious than those of the transgenic plants; the amounts of bacteria were significantly lower than those in the control group, the accumulation of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS)and callose deposition increased, and the expression of resistance-related genes (AtPR1, AtPR2, and AtPR5) significantly increased. (4) Our results suggest that wheat TaAnn12 resisted the invasion of pathogens by inducing the production and accumulation of ROS and callose.

In this paper, we address the problem of covariance matrix estimation for radar adaptive detection under non-Gaussian clutter. Traditional model-based estimators may suffer from performance loss due to the mismatch between real data and assumed models. Therefore, we resort to a data-driven deep-learning method and propose a covariance matrix estimation method based on a complex-valued convolutional neural network (CV-CNN). Moreover, a real-valued (RV) network with the same framework as the proposed CV network is also constructed to serve as a natural competitor. The obtained clutter covariance matrix estimation based on the network is applied to the adaptive normalized matched filter (ANMF) detector for performance assessment. The detection results via both simulated and real sea clutter illustrate that the estimator based on CV-CNN outperforms other traditional model-based estimators as well as its RV competitor in terms of probability of detection (PD).

Four diets containing different carbohydrate-to-protein ratios including the control (18% carbohydrate, 45.98% protein), 0.51 C/P (22% carbohydrate, 43.55% protein), 0.58 C/P (24% carbohydrate, 42.33% protein) and 0.72 C/P (28% carbohydrate, 38.91% protein) were designed to investigate the effects of dietary carbohydrate-to-protein ratios (C/P) on the growth performance, antioxidant capacity and energy metabolism in Marsupenaeus japonicus. Totals of 300 shrimp with an average initial weight of 1.08 ± 0.01 g were randomly assigned to four different dietary treatments. Each treatment included three 300 L tanks, with 25 shrimp in each tank. The current study was to investigate the influence of acute hypoxia on the tissue morphology, antioxidant capacity, immune response and energy metabolism in Marsupenaeus japonicus. A total of 180 shrimp were cultured and sampled at 0 h, 2 h, 4 h, 6 h, 10 h after hypoxia. Our findings revealed that acute hypoxia occurred, which was confirmed by darken serum color, increased hepatopancreas hemocyanin and hypoxia-inducible factor 1 expression. Inter-tissue differences existed in gene expression relating to the antioxidant capacity, immune response, and energy metabolism. Expression levels of the above index showed inconsistent trends in the hepatopancreas, while muscle gene expression showed an overall trend of first increasing and then decreasing. Muscle gene expression of energy metabolism (except for glycogen phosphorylase gene) reached the highest value (7.33–227.92 times) after hypoxic for 2 h, and the response was earlier and larger than that of hepatopancreas. Taken together, our results demonstrated that hypoxia could change serum color, influence antioxidant capacity, immune response and energy metabolism n M.japonicus. The response mechanism was tissue-specific and muscle might be the target response tissue for energy metabolism in M.japonicus.

Introduction: Mitochondria-targeted low-temperature photothermal therapy (LPTT) is a promising strategy that could maximize anticancer effects and overcome tumor thermal resistance. However, the successful synthesis of mitochondria-targeted nanodrug delivery system for LPTT still faces diverse challenges, such as laborious preparations processes, low drug-loading, and significant systemic toxicity from the carriers.Methods: In this study, we used the tumor-targeting folic acid (FA) and mitochondria-targeting berberine (BBR) derivatives (BD) co-modified polyethylene glycol (PEG)-decorated graphene oxide (GO) to synthesize a novel mitochondria-targeting nanocomposite (GO-PEG-FA/BD), which can effectively accumulate in mitochondria of the osteosarcoma (OS) cells and achieve enhanced mitochondria-targeted LPTT effects with minimal cell toxicity. The mitochondria-targeted LPTT effects were validated both in vitro and vivo.Results:In vitro experiments, the nanocomposites (GO-PEG-FA/BD) could eliminate membrane potential (ΔΨm), deprive the ATP of cancer cells, and increase the levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS), which ultimately induce oxidative stress damage. Furthermore, in vivo results showed that the enhanced mitochondria-targeted LPTT could exert an excellent anti-cancer effect with minimal toxicity.Discussion: Taken together, this study provides a practicable strategy to develop an ingenious nanoplatform for cancer synergetic therapy via mitochondria-targeted LPTT, which hold enormous potential for future clinical translation.

Inhalation exposure to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) from indoor solid fuel combustion poses a high health risk, and PAHs bound to particles with smaller sizes (e.g., PM1.0, aerodynamic diameter ≤ 1.0 µm) should be of particular concern since they can penetrate deep into pulmonary alveoli. However, PAHs bound to PM1.0 was less studied compared with PAHs in total suspended particles or PM2.5. In this study, multiple provincial field measurements were conducted to investigate 28 PAHs bound to PM1.0 in rural Chinese homes. Daily averaged PM1.0-PAH28 concentrations ranged from 27 ng/m3 to 3795 ng/m3 (median: 233 ng/m3) and from 10 ng/m3 to 2978 ng/m3 (median: 87 ng/m3) in indoor and outdoor air, respectively. Higher concentrations were found in northern China in winter due to increased solid fuels consumption for space heating. The ambient pollution was lower during the non-heating season in Eastern China, where clean energy was preferred. Highly toxic congeners were more abundant in indoor air compared with outdoor air. The results of source apportionment revealed that solid fuel combustion was the primary contributor to rural household PM1.0-PAHs, but other sources such as vehicles cannot be overlooked. The transition to cleaner energy can reduce the indoor PM1.0-PAH28 and BaPeq-28 concentrations by 87% and 98%, respectively, and more efficient reduction was observed for highly toxic congeners. The estimated Incremental Lifetime Cancer Risk (ILCR) based on PM1.0-PAH28 ranged from 4.6 × 10−5 to 3.4 × 10−2, far exceeding the acceptable level of 10−6. Over 60% of the ILCR could be attributed to inhalation exposure during childhood and adolescence.

Although photothermal therapy (PTT) have aroused substantial attention in the treatment of various types of tumors, the antitumor therapeutic efficacy is still unsatisfactory when using PTT alone. Very recently, oxygen-independent free-radical generation based on thermodynamic therapy (TDT) has emerged as a potential powerful therapeutic strategy for hypoxic cancer therapy. Herein, in this work, an intelligent hypoxia-independent free radical nanogenerator (CuS/AIPH@MnO2, denoted as CAM) was fabricated by in situ coating manganese dioxide (MnO2) shell onto the surface of as 2,2-azobis[2-(2-imidazolin-2-yl) propane] dihydrochloride (AIPH)-loaded mesoporous hollow mesoporous copper sulfide (CuS). The local hyperthermal generated by CAM upon NIR laser irradiation not only permitted PTT, but also promoted the disintegration of AIPH for generation of oxygen-independent free radicals, exerting the advantages of combination therapy of PTT/TDT for effective tumor ablation. Simultaneously, both in vitro and in vivo results have demonstrated the synergistic therapeutic efficacy of PTT/TDT for remarkable tumor growth inhibition. In addition, the favorable biocompatibility and low cytotoxicity of the as-synthesized nanoparticles were verified both in vitro and in vivo. Collectively, this work proposed an attractive and promising strategy in cancer therapy based on generation of oxygen-irrelevant toxic free radicals, which exhibits great potential for clinical translations in hypoxic tumor therapy.

Erratic rainfall and misalignment between the rainy season and the growing season of winter wheat greatly limit rainfed winter wheat yield in the Loess Plateau of China. To increase the grain yield of winter wheat in this region, the effects of different agronomic practices, including adjusting planting pattern (NR, narrow row spacing), increasing seeding rate (high seeding rate, HS), decreasing basal nitrogen rate and increasing top-dressed nitrogen rate (DBN), and replacing an old cultivar with a new cultivar (NC) on wheat yield were investigated for two consecutive years. The results showed that the current grain yield of rainfed winter wheat in the Loess Plateau could be increased to 5879–7093 kg ha−1 by HS, DBN and NC practices relative to the practice of high-yielding farmers (PF). The increased yield due to HS, DBN and NC was attributed to the higher number of spikes ha−1, 1000-grain weight, and kernels spike−1. Before the flowering stage, HS increased soil water consumption (SWC) in 1–3 m subsoil due to the higher plant population compared with that of PF, whereas DBN decreased SWC in the 0–2 m soil layer compared with that of PF. After the flowering stage, HS, DBN, and NC increased SWC by 8–16 mm in 2–3 m subsoil compared to PF. The water use efficiency (WUE) was increased under DBN and NC in comparison with PF. However, the WUE did not increase under HS as it had the highest evapotranspiration among the five treatments. Increasing the use of subsoil water during the late growth stage by optimizing agronomic practices or applying new cultivars with expansive roots should be the primary approach to increase rainfed winter wheat yield in this region.

Abstract Background Several studies have demonstrated a relationship between the posterior tibial slope (PTS) and meniscal tears in adults. However, little is known about the association between the PTS of the adolescents and medial meniscal tears (MMT). The purpose of this study was to evaluate the association between the PTS and MMT in adolescents, and to determine the optimal cut-off values of PTS for discriminating between the MMT and the control groups. Methods Between January 2018 and January 2020, a retrospective case-control study was performed. In this study, isolated MMT adolescent patients with no ligamentous injuries were matched by age and sex to a control group of radiologically normal images. The PTS was defined as the angle between the perpendicular line to proximal tibial cortex (PTC) and the tangent line along the tibial plateau. Then, both the medial posterior tibial slope (MPTS) and lateral posterior tibial slope (LPTS) were measured by plain radiographs on the lateral views. In addition, the optimal cut-off values of PTS were determined by the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis. Results A total of seventy-two patients who met the inclusion criteria were enrolled in the final analysis (36 patients with isolated MMT, 36 controls). The MPTS was greater in the knees with isolated MMT (10.7° ± 2.1°) than that of the control group (8.8° ± 1.7°), showing significant difference (P0.05). In the ROC curve analysis, the calculated cutoff value of the MPTS discriminating between the groups was 10.3°, with a sensitivity of 73.3% and specificity of 78.9%. Conclusions This study demonstrated that steep MPTS is associated with MMT, and MPTS≥10.3° was identified to be a risk factor for MMT in adolescents.

Abstract Background The purpose of this study was to evaluate and compare the long-term clinical outcomes between the total patellectomy and osteosynthesis with tension band wiring in patients with highly comminuted patella fractures. Methods Between January 1987 and December 2003, this retrospective study included a total of 35 patients (mean age, 51.4±16.8 years) with a minimum of 10 years follow-up period, comprising 29 males and 6 females, who were divided into the total patellectomy group (17 patients) or the open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) group (18 patients) in the Third Affiliated Hospital of Hebei Medical University. We retrospectively collected patient demographics and data on the type of trauma, fracture type, and postoperative complications. Clinical outcomes including knee range of motion (ROM), 36-Item Short-Form Health Survey (SF-36) score [including physical component score (PCS) and mental component score (MCS)], Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS), and Kujala score were evaluated and compared between the two groups. Biodex System dynamometer was used to quantitatively evaluate quadriceps femoris muscle power following measurement of peak torque. Results The mean follow-up periods of the total patellectomy group and the ORIF group were 17.2±5.6 and 16.8±4.9 years, respectively. There were no significant differences between the two groups of patient demographics in terms of the number of patients, age, sex, injury side, time to surgery, type of trauma, and fracture classification (p>0.05). This study was conducted to investigate the effects of dietary Bacillus subtilis DSM 32315 (Gutcare®) supplementation on the growth performance, antioxidant status, immune ability and intestinal function in juvenile Litopenaeus vannamei fed with high/low-fishmeal diets. A 4 × 2 two-factor design was formulated with graded dietary Gutcare® and fishmeal levels. Specifically, four Gutcare® supplemental levels (0, 0.05%, 0.15% and 0.3%) were added under two fishmeal diets (20% and 5% fishmeal levels). Each diet was randomly assigned to five replicate groups of 30 juvenile Pacific white shrimp that were stocked in fiberglass tanks. The results indicated no significant inhabitation on the growth performance, hepatopancreas antioxidant capacity, immune response and intestinal function at 5% fishmeal compared with 20% fishmeal. Facial emotion recognition plays an important role in social functioning. Patients with late-life depression (LLD) often have abnormal facial emotion recognition. Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) is beneficial in treating depression. This study examined whether MBCT can act as an effective augmentation of antidepressants and improve facial emotion recognition in patients with LLD and its underlying neural mechanism. Patients with LLD were randomized into two groups (n = 30 per group). The MBCT group received an eight-week MBCT in conjunction with stable medication treatment. The other group was treated as usual (TAU group) with stable medication treatment. The positive affect (PA) scale, negative affect (NA) scale, and facial emotion recognition task with an fMRI scan were performed before and after the trial. After eight weeks of treatment, the repeated ANOVA showed that the PA score in the MBCT group significantly increased [F(1,54) = 13.31, p = 0.001], but did not change significantly [F(1,54) = 0.58, p = 0.449] in the TAU group. The NA scores decreased significantly in both the MBCT group [F(1,54) = 19.01, p < 0.001] and the TAU group [F(1,54) = 16.16, p < 0.001]. Patients showed an increase in recognition accuracy and speed of angry and sad faces after 8 weeks of MBCT. No improvement was detected in the TAU group after treatment. A significant interaction effect was found in the change of activation of the left superior temporal gyrus (L-STG) to negative emotional expression between time and groups. Furthermore, a decrease in activation of L-STG to negative emotional expression was positively correlated with the increase in PA score. The MBCT is beneficial for improving affect status and facial emotion recognition in patients with LLD, and the L-STG is involved in this process.

Abstract Background Despite advances of surgery and neoadjuvant chemotherapy during the past few decades, the therapeutic efficacy of current therapeutic protocol for osteosarcoma (OS) is still seriously compromised by multi-drug resistance and severe side effects. Amplification of intracellular oxidative stress is considered as an effective strategy to induce cancer cell death. The purpose of this study was to develop a novel strategy that can amplify the intracellular oxidative stress for synergistic cascade cancer therapy. Methods and results A novel nanocomposite, composed of folic acid (FA) modified mesoporous silica–coated gold nanostar (GNS@MSNs-FA) and traditional Chinese medicine lycorine (Ly), was rationally designed and developed. Under near-infrared (NIR) irradiation, the obtained GNS@MSNs-FA/Ly could promote a high level of ROS production via inducing mitochondrial dysfunction and potent endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress. Moreover, glutathione (GSH) depletion during ER stress could reduce ROS scavenging and further enable efficient amplification of intracellular oxidative stress. Both in vitro and in vivo studies demonstrated that GNS@MSNs-FA/Ly coupled with NIR irradiation exhibited excellent antitumor efficacy without noticeable toxicity in MNNG/HOS tumor-bearing mice. Conclusion All these results demonstrated that GNS@MSNs-FA/Ly coupled with NIR irradiation could dramatically amplify the intra-tumoral oxidative stress, exhibiting excellent antitumor ability without obvious systemic toxicity. Taken together, this promising strategy provides a new avenue for the effective cancer synergetic therapy and future clinical translation.

Abstract Background Lateral tibial plateau fractures (TPFs) are often treated with conventional open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) through standard anterolateral sub-meniscal arthrotomy. There has been increasing support for “bidirectional rapid redactor” device-assisted closed reduction and internal fixation (CRIF) for treating TPFs. The aim of the present study is to compare the clinical and radiological outcomes between CRIF and ORIF procedures. Methods We performed a retrospective cohort study of 55 lateral TPF patients (Schatzker types I–III) who accepted surgical treatment at our trauma level 1 center between January 2016 and January 2018. They were divided into the CRIF group (32 patients) and the ORIF group (23 patients) based upon the different surgical protocols. The patients’ clinical outcome analysis was evaluated by using the Knee Society Score (KSS) and Rasmussen’s clinical score. For radiological assessment, changes in tibial plateau width (TPW), articular depression depth (ADD), medial proximal tibial angle (MPTA), and posterior tibial slope angle (PTSA) were evaluated using radiographs and computed tomography (CT) scan. Results The CRIF group had a mean follow-up of 28.9 months, and the ORIF group had a mean follow-up of 30.7 months (p>0.05). Furthermore, there was no statistically significant difference in terms of age, gender, injury mechanism, follow-up time, time interval from injury to surgery, and Schatzker classification in the two groups. With respect to the clinical outcomes including the KSS score and Rasmussen’s clinical score, there was also no significant difference (p>0.05). Nevertheless, the CRIF group had lower intra-operative blood loss, shorter hospitalization days, and better range of movement of the knee joint than the ORIF group (p0.05). Conclusion The present study showed that CRIF could achieve comparable clinical outcomes and better radiological results for treating lateral TPFs as compared with conventional ORIF.

Wrist reconstruction after en bloc resection of bone tumors of the distal radius has been a great challenge. Although many techniques have been used for the reconstruction of long bone defects following en bloc resection of the distal radius, the optimal reconstruction method remains controversial. This is the first review to systematically describe various reconstruction techniques. We not only discuss the indications, functional outcomes, and complications of these reconstruction techniques but also review the technical refinement strategies for improving the stability of the wrist joint. En bloc resection should be performed for Campanacci grade III giant cell tumors (GCT) as well as malignant tumors of the distal radius. However, wrist reconstruction after en bloc resection of the distal radius represents a great challenge. Although several surgical techniques, either achieving a stable wrist by arthrodesis or reconstructing a flexible wrist by arthroplasty, have been reported, the optimal reconstruction procedure remains controversial. The purpose of this review was to investigate which reconstruction methods might be the best option by analyzing the indications, techniques, limitations, and problems of different reconstruction methods. With the advancement of imaging, surgical techniques and materials, some reconstruction techniques have been further refined. Each of the techniques discussed in this review has its advantages and disadvantages. Wrist arthrodesis seems to be preferred over wrist arthroplasty in terms of grip strength and long‐term complications, while wrist arthroplasty seems to be superior to wrist arthrodesis in terms of wrist motion. All things considered, wrist arthroplasty with a vascularized fibular head autograft might be a good option because of better wrist function, acceptable grip strength, and a relatively lower complication rate. Moreover, wrist arthrodesis is still an option if the fibular head autograft reconstruction fails. Orthopaedic oncologists should familiarize themselves with the characteristics of each technique to select the most appropriate reconstruction method depending on each patient's situation.

Abstract Aiming at the problem of distributed target detection when there is signal mismatch, this paper proposes a tunable detector, which is characterised by a tunable parameter. The proposed detector can realise the flexible detection of mismatch signals by adjusting the tunable parameter, and hence the directivity (robustness or selectivity to mismatched signals) of the tunable detector can be smoothly adjusted. In addition, the tunable detector can obtain approximately the same detection performance as the corresponding generalised likelihood ratio test in the absence of signal mismatch. The proposed tunable detector also possesses the constant false alarm rate property. Numerical examples illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed detector.

It is difficult to accurately and efficiently detect seismic wave signals at the time of arrival for automatic positioning from microseismic waves. A U-net model to detect the arrival time of seismic waves is constructed based on the convolutional neural network (CNN) theory. The original data for 1555 segments and synthetic data of 7764 segments were detected using Akaike’s information criterion (AIC) algorithm, the time window energy eigenvalue algorithm, and the U-net model. During uniaxial compression of the test block, acoustic emission equipment is used to collect the vibration wave generated by the rupture of the test block. Source imaging images are drawn using the Origin software, the arrival time error is counted, and the advantages and disadvantages of the three arrival time methods are discussed. Similarities between the source image and the actual fracture image are observed. There is a high similarity between the source imaging map and the physical trajectory map when the U-net model is used. Thus, it is feasible to use the U-net model to detect the arrival time of seismic waves. Its accuracy is greater than that of the time window energy eigenvalue algorithm but lower than that of the AIC algorithm for high signal-to-noise ratios. After reducing the signal-to-noise ratio, the stability and accuracy of the U-net model to detect the arrival time have improved over the other two algorithms.

Overactivated inflammation and catabolism induced by proinflammatory macrophages are involved in the pathological processes of intervertebral disc (IVD) degeneration (IVDD). Our previous study suggested the protective role of inhibiting heat shock protein 90 (HSP90) in IVDD, while the underlying mechanisms need advanced research. The current study investigated the effects of HSP90 inhibitor 17-AAG on nucleus pulposus (NP) inflammation and catabolism induced by M1-polarized macrophages. Immunohistochemical staining of degenerated human IVD samples showed massive infiltration of macrophages, especially M1 phenotype, as well as elevated levels of interleukin (IL)-1β, tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α and matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)13. The conditioned medium (CM) of inflamed NP cells (NPCs) enhanced M1 polarization of macrophages, while the CM of M1 macrophages but not M2 macrophages promoted the expression of inflammatory factors and matrix proteases in NPCs. Additionally, we found that 17-AAG could represent anti-inflammatory and anti-catabolic effects by modulating both macrophages and NPCs. On the one hand, 17-AAG attenuated the pro-inflammatory activity of M1 macrophages via inhibiting nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) pathway and mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathways. On the other hand, 17-AAG dampened M1-CM-induced inflammation and catabolism in NPCs by upregulating HSP70 and suppressing the Janus kinase 2 (JAK2)-signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) pathway. Moreover, both in vitro IVD culture models and murine disc puncture models supported that 17-AAG treatment decreased the levels of inflammatory factors and matrix proteases in IVD tissues. In conclusion, HSP90 inhibitor 17-AAG attenuates NP inflammation and catabolism induced by M1 macrophages, suggesting 17-AAG as a promising candidate for IVDD treatment.

In this paper, with the aim of performing joint multi-target localization and discrimination tasks, a performance-driven resource allocation scheme is proposed. In the first, by establishing the signal model under deception jamming and utilizing the maximum likelihood (ML) estimator, the estimation information of targets can be obtained. Secondly, the Cramer–Rao lower bound (CRLB) for the transmit antenna selection and power allocation is derived. Then, to fully utilize the difference in spatial distribution between true and false targets, a false target discriminator based on the CRLB of the distance deception parameter is utilized. By introducing the nondimensionalization mechanism, we build an optimal objective function of target localization error and discrimination probability. Subsequently, a joint multi-target localization and discrimination optimization model has been established, which is mathematically a non-smooth and non-convex problem. By introducing an auxiliary variable, we propose a three-step solution strategy for solving this problem. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can improve the performance of joint localization accuracy and discrimination ability (JLADA) by more than 30% compared with the algorithms only for localization or discrimination. Meanwhile, by utilizing the proposed algorithm, the composite indicators of JLADA can decrease more than 70% compared with the uniform allocation scheme.

Lipid droplets (LDs), an extremely important cellular organelle, are responsible for the storage of neutral lipids in multiple biological processes, which could be a potential target site for photodynamic therapy (PDT) of cancer. Herein, a lipid droplet–targeted photosensitizer (BODSeI) is developed, allowing for fluorescence imaging–guided PDT. Owing to the location of lipid droplets, BODSeI demonstrates enhanced PDT efficiency with an extremely low IC50 value (around 125 nM). Besides, BODSeI shows good biocompatibility and high photostability. Therefore, BODSeI is promising for droplet-location PDT, which may trigger wide interest for exploring the pathway of lipid droplet–location PDT.

Due to the high rolling rate of a regular crawler paddy harvester and the absence of mature first season harvester products of ratooning rice, combined with the planting mode and harvest requirements of ratooning rice, a triangular crawler ratooning rice harvester is specifically designed. The structure and steering principle of the triangular crawler chassis are described. The hydraulic system is simulated and analyzed by AMESim2020 (Guangzhou, China) to verify the rationality of its design; RecurDynV9R4 (Guangzhou, China) is used to simulate and analyze the field straight/turning situation of differential steering chassis and rear-axle steering chassis. The results show that the rear axle steering chassis has a smaller turning radius and lower rolling loss rate and the change of track tension is more stable during steering. The field test is conducted to verify the reliability of the simulation results. The field test shows that the rolling loss rate of the rear axle steering chassis is reduced by 27.9% compared with the differential steering chassis. The machine’s operating speed is 2.8 km/h, the minimum turning radius is 780 mm, and the straight rolling rate is 26.8%. The operating performance is stable, and the operational process is smooth. Compared with the existing conventional harvester, the linear rolling rate of the first harvest of ratooning rice is reduced by 26.1%, and the test results are consistent with the RecurDyn simulation results. The results are reliable, providing a reference for the theoretical research of the chassis of the later ratoon rice harvester.

The presence of mutual coupling usually causes space-time steering vector distortion for space-time adaptive processing (STAP) in airborne radar, thereby causing significant performance degradation. In this paper, a robust STAP approach was proposed against mutual coupling based on middle subarray clutter covariance matrix reconstruction. To address the space-time steering vector distortion caused by the mutual coupling, the training snapshots of middle subarray were obtained using the spatial-temporal selection matrix, and they were collected to compute the sample covariance matrix (SCM). Thus, the clutter-plus-noise covariance matrix (CNCM) of middle subarray was reconstructed by utilizing the clutter Capon spectrum of middle subarray to integrate over the possible clutter spatial-temporal domain. Moreover, the target covariance matrix of middle subarray was calculated by employing the target Capon spectrum of middle subarray to integrate over the possible target region, and the space-time steering vector of the target was estimated with the eigenvector corresponding to its maximum eigenvalue. Finally, the proposed robust STAP weight vector of middle subarray was built. The proposed method is capable of simultaneously mitigating the mutual coupling, target components in the SCM, and target space-time steering vector mismatch. The simulation results verified the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

In this study, a data analysis method for the relaxation test was proposed under step loading by conducting creep and stress relaxation tests of dentate discontinuity poured by cement mortar using biaxial creep machine under step loading and single-stage loading. First, a superposition method for the stress relaxation curve was deduced based on the data processing method of creep test by considering the effect of loading history on the relaxation curve and the characteristic of relaxation was analyzed. Second, this superposition method was verified by testing data under step loading and single-stage loading. Finally, this paper indicate the accurate way for the processing of relaxation test data under step loading. The results show that under the same stress level, the values of relaxation curve after the superposition are different from that under the single-stage loading test. Furthermore, the relaxation curves in the step loading test under different stress levels are similar to those in single-stage loading under the same stress level. Furthermore, creep deformation increase monotonically during the creep, but stress do not exhibit such a trend during relaxation, which is inconsistent with the Boltzmann superposition principle. The relaxation curve in the step loading test under different shear stress could reflect the relaxation properties of the single-stage loading test under the same shear stress, and unlike the data processing method of step loading creep test, superimposition is not needed.

Increasing evidence suggests that an exogenous electromagnetic field might be involved in many biologic processes which are of great importance for therapeutic interventions. Pulsed electromagnetic fields (PEMFs) are known to be a noninvasive, safe and effective therapy agent without apparent side effects. Numerous studies have shown that PEMFs possess the potential to become a stand-alone or adjunctive treatment modality for treating musculoskeletal disorders. However, several issues remain unresolved. Prior to their widely clinical application, further researches from well-designed, high-quality studies are still required to standardize the treatment parameters and derive the optimal protocol for health-care decision making. In this review, we aim to provide current evidence on the mechanism of action, clinical applications, and controversies of PEMFs in musculoskeletal disorders.

Nucleus pulposus-derived stem/progenitor cells (NPSCs) provide novel prospects for the regeneration of degenerated intervertebral disc (IVD). Nevertheless, with aging and degeneration of IVD, the frequency of NPSCs markedly decreases. Excessive cell death could be the main reason for declined frequency of NPSCs, however, the exact mechanisms remain elusive. Thus, the present study was undertaken to explore the mechanisms of compression-induced NPSCs death, and the effects of heat shock protein 90 (HSP90) on NPSCs survival. Here, we found that compression could trigger receptor-interacting protein kinase 1 (RIPK1)/receptor-interacting protein kinase 3 (RIPK3)/mixed lineage kinase domain-like protein (MLKL)-mediated necroptosis of NPSCs. Furthermore, we found that elevated expression of HSP90 was involved in compression-induced NPSCs death, and inhibiting HSP90 could dramatically attenuate compression-induced necroptosis of NPSCs via regulating the expression and activity of RIPK1/RIPK3/MLKL, and alleviating the mitochondrial dysfunction (mitochondrial membrane potential loss and ATP depletion) and oxidative stress [production of mitochondrial reactive oxygen species (ROS), cellular total ROS and malondialdehyde, and downregulation of superoxide dismutase 2]. Besides necroptosis, compression-induced apoptosis of NPSCs was also attenuated by HSP90 inhibition. In addition, we found that enhanced expression of HSP70 contributed to the cytoprotective effects of inhibiting HSP90. More encouragingly, our results demonstrated that inhibiting HSP90 could also mitigate the exhaustion of NPSCs in vivo. In conclusion, RIPK1/RIPK3/MLKL-mediated necroptosis participates in compression-induced NPSCs death. Furthermore, targeting HSP90 to simultaneously inhibit necroptosis and apoptosis of NPSCs might be an efficient strategy for preventing the death of NPSCs, thus rescuing the endogenous repair capacity of NP tissue.

Background: Tumor-infiltrating natural killer (NK) cells (TINKs) are crucial immune cells in tumor defense, and might be related to tumor prognosis. However, the results were discrepant among different studies. The present meta-analysis was performed to comprehensively assess the prognostic value of NK cell markers in solid tumor tissues.Methods: PubMed, Web of Science, and EMBASE were searched to identify original researches reporting the prognostic significance of TINKs in solid tumors. NK cell markers CD56, CD57, NKp30, and NKp46 were included in the analysis. The hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) of pooled overall survival (OS), disease-free survival (DFS), metastasis-free survival (MFS), progression-free survival (PFS), and recurrence-free survival (RFS) were calculated by STATA software 14.0 to assess the prognostic significance.Results : Of the 56 included studies, there were 18 studies on CD56, 31 studies on CD57, 1 study on NKp30, and 7 studies on NKp46. High levels of CD56, CD57, NKp30, and NKp46 were significantly correlated with better OS of patients with solid malignancies (HR = 0.473, 95%CI: 0.315–0.710, p < 0.001; HR = 0.484, 95%CI: 0.380–0.616, p < 0.001; HR = 0.34, 95%CI: 0.14–0.80, p = 0.014; HR = 0.622, 95%CI: 0.470–0.821, p < 0.001, respectively). Our results also revealed that CD56, CD57, and NKp46 could act as independent prognostic predictors for favorable OS (HR = 0.372, 95%CI: 0.261–0.531, p < 0.001; HR = 0.525, 95%CI: 0.346–0.797, p = 0.003; HR = 0.559, 95%CI: 0.385–0.812, p = 0.002, respectively).Conclusions : Our results indicated that high levels of NK cell markers in solid tumor tissues could predict favorable prognosis for solid tumor patients.

The suppression of mainlobe jamming (MLJ) is a hard task and an open problem in the electronic counter-countermeasures field. In this article, a sparse Bayesian learning (SBL)-based mainlobe blanket jamming suppression algorithm is proposed for solving this problem, which can effectively suppress the MLJ and estimate the target distance and direction. The proposed algorithm can be divided into two steps. First, the row (or column) spatial adaptive processing is adopted to suppress the MLJ; Second, the SBL algorithm is used to obtain the target echo parameters.

Target localization utilizing frequency diverse array (FDA) has received much attention in recent years. In this paper, we propose a tensor subspace-based multiple-target 3-D localization method with planar frequency diverse subaperturing multiple-input multiple-output (FDS-MIMO) radar. To fully exploit the inherent multidimensional FDS-MIMO radar matched filter output information, a tensor signal model is established first. Then, the FDS-MIMO radar range ambiguity problem is mitigated by applying co-prime frequency offsets along both the dimensions of the planer array. Next, a beamspace-based unitary tensormultiple signal classification (UTMUSIC) algorithm is developed to utilize the inherent multidimensional structure through the higher order singular value decomposition (HOSVD)-based low-rank approximation. Moreover, two computationally efficient methods, namely, partial spectral search UTMUSIC and range-angle decoupling UTMUSIC algorithms, are also proposed accordingly. The superiority of the proposed approaches over conventional methods is verified with numerical results, in terms of both computational complexity and estimation accuracy.

Conventional space-time adaptive processing (STAP) technique can achieve perfect performance when applied to side-looking airborne radar (SLAR), where the clutter is relatively stationary, whereas it suffers significant degradation for non-SLAR due to severe range dependence, especially when range ambiguity is present. In theory, the range-dependent clutter is mainly located at the near range and can be eliminated via elevation non-adaptive or adaptive beamforming. However, the pure near-range clutter portion utilized for calculating elevation adaptive weights cannot be obtained due to range ambiguity in practice. In this paper, a novel method to adaptive extract the near-range clutter via sparsity-based technique is presented and the non-stationary clutter potion can be effectively eliminated by elevation adaptive beamforming. With this technique, the residual clutter becomes stationary, and thus, the corresponding STAP performance will be significantly improved.

Space-time adaptive processing (STAP) for airborne radar has recently been enriched owing to the development of methods based on sparse recovery techniques. These methods have shown advantages over the conventional ones. However, there are still difficulties in practical situations, for example, when many clutter components are not located on the discretized sampling grids of the dictionary, which will result in significant performance loss. To deal with such off-grid problem, this paper proposes a sparse Bayesian learning-based STAP (SBL-STAP) with an off-grid self-calibration method, which can effectively mitigate the off-grid effect. In the proposed method, the clutter plus noise covariance matrix is estimated via SBL. Meanwhile, we construct a small-scale complementary dictionary with an adaptive approach to calibrate the uniformly discretized dictionary. In each iteration of the SBL, the atoms of the complementary dictionary renew themselves by an approach based on weighted least squares. In this way, the atoms of complementary dictionary can converge to the clutter ridge adaptively when off-grid occurs. The simulation results show that the clutter ridge spreading caused by off-grid can be mitigated effectively, and the output signal-to-clutterplus-noise ratio of the STAP is significantly improved. The benefits come at the cost of negligible increase of computational complexity.

A solution for multi-radar bias estimation without a priori association is provided for a decentralized multi-radar tracking system. We describe the systematic bias of radar with random finite sets by a pseudo-measurement of bias, which is derived at the measurement level to decouple the bias estimation and target tracking. The Gaussian mixture probability hypothesis density filter is applied for estimating the systematic bias recursively in multi-target tracking scene without a priori association. The numerical results show that the proposed method provides similar performance to the maximum likelihood estimator with the perfect known association and improved performance to the maximum likelihood estimator combined with probabilistic data association.

Radar coincidence imaging (RCI) is a recently developed staring imaging technique based on the wavefront random modulation and temporal–spatial stochastic radiation field. Before coincidence imaging processing, the RCI needs to compute the reference matrix accurately. Unfortunately, model error usually exists, which degrades the imaging performance considerably. In this article, by exploiting the sparse prior of target, the authors propose a sparsity-driven autofocus imaging via iterative maximum a posteriori (SA-MAP) algorithm for the RCI when model error exists. The algorithm performs well via simultaneous sparse imaging, self-calibration and parameters update. Simulation results demonstrate the validity of the proposed algorithm and performance improvement over the existing algorithms.

According to the structural characteristics of non-uniform dual circular array (NDCA), a new method is proposed to solve the problem of mutual coupling error. In this algorithm, solving the mutual coupling problem of NDCA can be equivalent to solving that of non-uniform linear array (NLA). Firstly, the mutual coupling matrix is divided into several blocks. Then, each sub-block can be decomposed into the sum of several matrices with special characteristics by matrix addition method. As a result, the signal angles and mutual coupling coefficients can be conveniently decoupled. Compared with the iterative self-calibration algorithm, the proposed algorithm has a small amount of calculation. Moreover, it neither requires any prior information nor has problem of local convergence. The new method can accurately estimate the signal directions and mutual coupling coefficients.
