Abstract Holography is an essential technique of generating three-dimensional images. Recently, quantum holography with undetected photons (QHUP) has emerged as a groundbreaking method capable of capturing complex amplitude images. Despite its potential, the practical application of QHUP has been limited by susceptibility to phase disturbances, low interference visibility, and limited spatial resolution. Deep learning, recognized for its ability in processing complex data, holds significant promise in addressing these challenges. In this report, we present an ample advancement in QHUP achieved by harnessing the power of deep learning to extract images from single-shot holograms, resulting in vastly reduced noise and distortion, alongside a notable enhancement in spatial resolution. The proposed and demonstrated deep learning QHUP (DL-QHUP) methodology offers a transformative solution by delivering high-speed imaging, improved spatial resolution, and superior noise resilience, making it suitable for diverse applications across an array of research fields stretching from biomedical imaging to remote sensing. DL-QHUP signifies a crucial leap forward in the realm of holography, demonstrating its immense potential to revolutionize imaging capabilities and pave the way for advancements in various scientific disciplines. The integration of DL-QHUP promises to unlock new possibilities in imaging applications, transcending existing limitations and offering unparalleled performance in challenging environments.

Cadmium (Cd), which accumulates in tobacco leaves, enters the human body through inhalation of smoke, causing harmful effects on health. Therefore, identifying the pivotal factors that govern the absorption and resistance of Cd in tobacco is crucial for mitigating the harmful impact of Cd. In the present study, four different Cd-sensitive varieties, namely, ZhongChuan208 (ZC) with resistance, ZhongYan100 (ZY), K326 with moderate resistance, and YunYan87 (YY) with sensitivity, were cultivated in hydroponic with different Cd concentrations (20 µM, 40 µM, 60 µM and 80 µM). The results indicated that plant growth was significantly decreased by Cd. Irrespective of the Cd concentration, ZC exhibited the highest biomass, while YY had the lowest biomass; ZY and K326 showed intermediate levels. Enzymatic (APX, CAT, POD) and nonenzymatic antioxidant (Pro, GSH) systems showed notable variations among varieties. The multifactor analysis suggested that the ZC and ZY varieties, with higher levels of Pro and GSH content, contribute to a decrease in the levels of MDA and ROS. Among all the Cd concentrations, ZC exhibited the lowest Cd accumulation, while YY showed the highest. Additionally, there were significant differences observed in Cd distribution and translocation factors among the four different varieties. In terms of Cd distribution, cell wall Cd accounted for the highest proportion of total Cd, and organelles had the lowest proportion. Among the varieties, ZC showed lower Cd levels in the cell wall, soluble fraction, and organelles. Conversely, YY exhibited the highest Cd accumulation in all tissues; K326 and ZY had intermediate levels. Translocation factors (TF) varied among the varieties under Cd stress, with ZC and ZY showing lower TF compared to YY and K326. This phenomenon mainly attributed to regulation of the NtNramp3 and NtNramp5 genes, which are responsible for the absorption and transport of Cd. This study provides a theoretical foundation for the selection and breeding of tobacco varieties that are resistant to or accumulate less Cd.

Cadmium (Cd), one of the most toxic heavy metals, has been extensively studied by environmental scientists because of its detrimental effects on plants, animals, and humans. Increased industrial activity has led to environmental contamination with Cd. Cadmium can enter the food chain and pose a potential human health risk. Therefore, reducing the accumulation of Cd in plant species and enhancing their detoxification abilities are crucial for remediating heavy metal pollution in contaminated areas. One innovative technique is nano-phytoremediation, which employs nanomaterials ranging from 1 to 100 nm in size to mitigate the accumulation and detrimental effects of Cd on plants. Although extensive research has been conducted on using nanomaterials to mitigate Cd toxicity in plants, it is important to note that the mechanism of action varies depending on factors such as plant species, level of Cd concentration, and type of nanomaterials employed. This review aimed to consolidate and organize existing data, providing a comprehensive overview of the effects and mechanisms of nanomaterials in enhancing plant resistance to Cd. In particular, its deep excavation the mechanisms of detoxification heavy metals of nanomaterials by plants, including regulating Cd uptake and distribution, enhancing antioxidant capacity, regulating gene expression, and regulating physiological metabolism. In addition, this study provides insights into future research directions in this field.

Second harmonic generation has been widely applied in various fields. High second harmonic intensity can facilitate optical imaging, signal sensing, and detection. Thus, enhancing the intensity of the second harmonic is a significant work. However, changing the external character of crystal or increasing the pump light intensity to improve the intensity of the second harmonic is not always advisable in some applications, such as bioimaging, biopsies, etc. Here, we implemented a noninvasive method that constructs a specific spatial distribution field via a scattering medium to realize a high enhancement of second harmonic intensity. We studied that different scattering mediums exerted the influence on the optimal enhancement effect of second harmonic. It was found that choosing an appropriate scattering medium can greatly enhance the intensity of the second harmonic. The results can offer a helpful value for second harmonic applications such as bioimaging, sensing, and optical frequency conversion.

Axicon is an optical element that can be used to produce high-quality Bessel beams efficiently. In general, the smaller the base angle of the axicon is, the longer the diffraction-free distance of the generated Bessel beam will be. Therefore, axicon with an extremely small base angle is important for the generation of Bessel beam. However, the measurement of an extremely small base angle is a challenge. Here, we applied the phase-shifting digital holography in the measurement of axicon angle. The errors of the three measured axicons with base angles of 0.5°, 1°, and 1° were 1.94%, 4.43%, and 1.63%, respectively.

Due to the effects such as mode coupling, bending, mode dispersion, etc, a speckle pattern is generated by passing a coherent laser beam through a multimode fiber. For a non-polarization-maintaining multimode fiber, the randomization also occurs in the polarization distribution. Feedback-based wavefront shaping has been applied in modulating the speckle generated by a scattering medium. Based on the feedback-based wavefront shaping, we propose the combination method to modulate the normalized polarization ratio (NPR) of a focal spot in the speckle field formed by non-polarization-maintaining multimode fiber. The quantitative control of the NPR is achieved by amplitude modulation or phase modulation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
