Abstract

The authors give an overview of the basic breakdown of pornographic material according to its content and its features that differentiate it from erotica. The categorizations, such as mild, explicit, and violent, are important for the purposes of sexological research, where pornography serves as stimulus material. A more specific categorisation is for child pornography, which is useful for subsequent forensic work in assessing the offence. The dominant medium in recent years has been the Internet. Pornography has evolved into new alternative forms such as netporn, altporn and ethical porn. These are innovative approaches by the porn industry, not only in an attempt to portray sexual practices as realistically as possible, but also to provide more equal and pleasurable conditions for the actors involved. Amateur pornography, which is filmed by the actors themselves and posted on the Internet, is also growing in popularity due to its greater authenticity compared to 'classic pornography'. However, publishing content without the consensus of all those involved can be problematic. Unfortunately, this is also happening and is one of the other new phenomena in pornography - revenge porn. Abstract

The authors try to analyse the influence of cognitive aspects of sexual intercourse on the healthy function of (primarily) female sexuality. They point to the role of attention, subjective beliefs and social expectations in the context of sexual satisfaction. Classical theories of spectatoring or cognitive interference are enriched with new knowledge about cognitive distractors - stimuli that can distract individuals during sexual intercourse and, in interaction with individual conditions and emotions, disrupt the ability to achieve orgasm in the long term. The authors also deal with the currently available options for measuring cognitive distractors in the form of intrusive thoughts and point to gender differences in the content of cognitive distractors. Abstract

Pornography is becoming increasingly popular today. At the same time, pornographic materials are still perceived as rather harmful in society. However, some recent research also points to positive aspects of pornography consumption, which can be a healthy and recreational activity under certain conditions (Daneback, Træen, & Månsson, 2009; Poulsen, Busby, & Galovan, 2013; Kohut, Fisher, Campbell, & Fisher, 2017; Willoughby, & Leonhardt, 2018; Lexová, 2020). The primary goal of the project is to contribute to the current level of knowledge of the connection between the consumption of pornography and various areas of partner sexual activity. The research project will use a quantitative strategy through an online questionnaire. Through the data obtained from the online questionnaire, we will compare individuals from relationships in which pornography is consumed together, by each of the partners separately, by only one of the partners, or not at all. At the same time, dyadic data will be included in the analysis. Respondents will be compared in the areas of partner sexual activity, including the frequency of sexual activity, sexual desire, sexual satisfaction, sexual communication and openness, intimacy and commitment, infidelity, and sexual experimentation. Based on previous research, we believe that the way individuals consume pornographic materials in relationships is an important factor and may be related to the negative or positive consequences for partner life in general. Abstract

Authors introduce the psychological aspects of pretending orgasm. In most cases this deceptive behaviour is caused by sexual dysfunction. The prevalence of this phenomenon is discussed as well as the methods of pretending and other findings based on previous studies in this area. An individual may be motivated to pretend by circumstantial, internal, and relational factors, thus the authors discuss various reasons leading to this behaviour. Abstract

Introduction: Pornographic materials are perceived as harmful in society. However, some recent research also points to positive aspects of pornography consumption, which can be a healthy and recreational activity under certain conditions. Due to the growing popularity of pornography, the research topic needs to be further developed. Method: Using an online questionnaire, we compared individuals from relationships in which pornography is consumed together, by each of the partners separately, by only one of the partners, or not at all. Respondents were compared in the areas of partner sexual activity, including the frequency of sexual activity, the need for sexual activities, sexual satisfaction, sexual communication, and the repertoire and frequency of partner sexual practices. Results: The comparison included 685 respondents over the age of 18 who were in a heterosexual relationship at the time. Partners who consume pornography scored higher in all of these areas than the other groups, with the exception of the areas of frequency of sexual activity and sexual satisfaction, where they scored the same as partners who do not consume pornography. No statistically significant difference was found between men and women. Conclusion: The study points to the possible positive context of pornography consumption when consumed by partners together. In some cases, partners who do not consume pornography achieved the same results. However, individuals from relationships where pornography is watched by partners separately, or by only one of them, always achieved the lowest scores in all areas. Abstract

The number of population-based studies focused on the prevalence of paraphilic sexual interests in men is very low and for women, the subject remains largely unexplored. The two main aims of this study are to investigate the prevalence of paraphilias and to explore sex differences in an online representative sample of Czech men and women using various dimensions of sexual experience. We collected data about sexual motivations and behavior from a representative online sample of 10,044 Czechs (5,023 men and 5,021 women). In a standardized online interview, participants answered questions about selected dimensions of sexual experience within specific paraphilic patterns: sexual preferences, sexual arousal, sexual fantasies in the past 6 months, pornography use in the past 6 months, and experience with paraphilic behaviors. Our results show that 31.3% of men (n = 1,571) and 13.6% of women (n = 683) admitted to at least one paraphilic preference. Moreover, 15.5% of men and 5% of women reported more than one paraphilic preference. Except for beating/torture and humiliation/submission, in terms of real experience with such behaviors almost all paraphilias were more common among men than among women. Our results indicate that the high prevalence of some paraphilic patterns might render their pathologization problematic. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Previous studies have documented links between sub-clinical narcissism and the active pursuit of short-term mating strategies (e.g., unrestricted sociosexuality, marital infidelity, mate poaching). Nearly all of these investigations have relied solely on samples from Western cultures. In the current study, responses from a cross-cultural survey of 30,470 people across 53 nations spanning 11 world regions (North America, Central/South America, Northern Europe, Western Europe, Eastern Europe, Southern Europe, Middle East, Africa, Oceania, Southeast Asia, and East Asia) were used to evaluate whether narcissism (as measured by the Narcissistic Personality Inventory; NPI) was universally associated with short-term mating. Results revealed narcissism scores (including two broad factors and seven traditional facets as measured by the NPI) were functionally equivalent across cultures, reliably associating with key sexual outcomes (e.g., more active pursuit of short-term mating, intimate partner violence, and sexual aggression) and sex-related personality traits (e.g., higher extraversion and openness to experience). Whereas some features of personality (e.g., subjective well-being) were universally associated with socially adaptive facets of Narcissism (e.g., self-sufficiency), most indicators of short-term mating (e.g., unrestricted sociosexuality and marital infidelity) were universally associated with the socially maladaptive facets of narcissism (e.g., exploitativeness). Discussion addresses limitations of these cross-culturally universal findings and presents suggestions for future research into revealing the precise psychological features of narcissism that facilitate the strategic pursuit of short-term mating. Abstract

Previous studies have documented links between sub-clinical narcissism and the active pursuit of short-term mating strategies (e.g., unrestricted sociosexuality, marital infidelity, mate poaching). Nearly all of these investigations have relied solely on samples from Western cultures. In the current study, responses from a cross-cultural survey of 30,470 people across 53 nations spanning 11 world regions (North America, Central/South America, Northern Europe, Western Europe, Eastern Europe, Southern Europe, Middle East, Africa, Oceania, Southeast Asia, and East Asia) were used to evaluate whether narcissism (as measured by the Narcissistic Personality Inventory; NPI) was universally associated with short-term mating. Results revealed narcissism scores (including two broad factors and seven traditional facets as measured by the NPI) were functionally equivalent across cultures, reliably associating with key sexual outcomes (e.g., more active pursuit of shortterm mating, intimate partner violence, and sexual aggression) and sex-related personality traits (e.g., higher extraversion and openness to experience). Whereas some features of personality (e.g., subjective well-being) were universally associated with socially adaptive facets of Narcissism (e.g., self-sufficiency), most indicators of short-term mating (e.g., unrestricted sociosexuality and marital infidelity) were universally associated with the socially maladaptive facets of narcissism (e.g., exploitativeness). Discussion addresses limitations of these cross-culturally universal findings and presents suggestions for future research into revealing the precise psychological features of narcissism that facilitate the strategic pursuit of short-term mating.

Abstract

Aesthetic surgery of the female genitalia is on the rise. Many procedures are performed. Body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) is a psychiatric disorder and often goes unrecognized in plastic surgery. This review examines actual knowledge of plastic surgery in gynecology, knowledge of motivational factors of women, and BDD. We carried out a systematic electronic search. We used a combination of relevant keywords to construct the search strategy. Included studies were systematic reviews or primary studies published 1990–2017 and containing information about BDD. Reviewers independently assessed study eligibility, extracted data, and assessed quality, undertaking narrative synthesis. The research revealed a variety of plastic procedures available and why women consider undergoing labia reduction surgery. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
