The objective was to introduce a new endoscopic technique‐interspinous plasty for low back pain from Baastrup's disease; based on clinical manifestations, imaging findings and diagnostic test, to discuss a detailed diagnostic procedure for Baastrup's disease; and to explore the mechanism of interspinous plasty in pain relief. To our knowledge, there is no report about the results of endoscopic lumbar technique for Baastrup's disease. This study described the successful full‐endoscopic surgical treatment for Baastrup's disease, providing a brand‐new therapeutic method for patients. Clinical manifestations, imaging findings, including X‐ray, computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging, and a “positive” diagnostic test with local anesthetic were used to confirm Baastrup's disease in the three included patients. The interspinous plasty procedure, which aimed to recover a physiological gap between the adjacent spinous processes, was performed by full‐endoscopic resection of marginal osteophytes. The removal of local inflamed tissue and reducing inflammation via intraoperative saline irrigation also lead to pain relief. Clinical outcomes included visual analog scale (VAS) for low back pain and the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI). The distance between the adjacent spinous processes was measured from the preoperative and postoperative CT scan. We calculated and recorded the difference between preoperative and postoperative measurements. Technical procedures and advantages of interspinous plasty are introduced. The three patients showed improvement in terms of the postoperative VAS of low back pain (from 8 to 2, from 7 to 1 and from 8 to 2) and ODI (from 68.9% to 33.3%, from 77.8% to 28.9% and from 71.1% to 28.9%, respectively) at the 12‐month follow‐up. Compared postoperative ODI index, the ODI index increased from 26.7% to 33.3% and from 24.4% to 28.9% in two of the cases at the 12‐month follow‐up. At 1 week, CT confirmed an obvious reduction in the marginal osteophytes between the adjacent spinous processes. Compared with those on preoperative CT images, the distance between adjacent spinous processes on postoperative CT was enlarged from 1 to 4 mm, and a repeated CT scan 3 months later reconfirmed little recrudescent osteoproliferation. In selected cases, full‐endoscopic surgical treatment for chronic mechanical back pain as part of the phenomena of Baastrup's disease may be beneficial. The operations in this study were performed under local anesthesia, with satisfactory early clinical outcomes and a low incidence of complications or adverse events. This may be a feasible therapeutic method or an alternative option for patients who cannot tolerate general anesthesia surgery., The interspinous plasty, aimed to recover a physiological gap between the spinous processes, were performed by full‐endoscopic resecting marginal osteophytes. Objective In order to elucidate the target proteins of exercise-induced stress, differential expression of proteins in urine from male athletes after 30 km running was evaluated by proteomics. Methods Urine samples were collected from ten male runners before and after 30 km running. The differential expression profile of urine proteins was investigated by using a proteomic approach based on two-dimensional gel electrophoresis (2-DE) and mass spectrometry (MS) procedures. Results Totally 1011 ± 243 and 1737 ± 15 protein spots were detected from 2-DE of urine samples harvested from the subjects before and after 30 km running. In addition, 110 protein spots with differential expression were achieved. After exercise, 10 proteins with ≥5 fold up-regulation and 23 new proteins were observed; 18 protein spots with ≥5 fold down-regulation were observed and 6 proteins were disappeared. The target proteins were identified as zinc-α2-glycoprotein, albumin, vitamin D-binding protein, prostate-specific antigen, β-actin and Bence-Jones protein (BJP), which are correlated with the change of energy metabolism pathway, material transport and stress protection in the body. Conclusions An obviously differential protein expression profile in urine samples from the subjects after 30 km running is achieved, which provides a new idea for further exploring exercise-induced proteinuria. However, further studies need to develop urine protein profiles of athletes, which will benefit for monitoring sport competition and doping control as well as excessive exercise-induced diseases.

Objective To provide more scientific and authoritative theoretical basis for body-building exercises after analyzing the changes of exercises of different intensities for the kidney functions. Methods The objects of the research are eight male students from Guangzhou Sport College, being exerted the treadmill exercises according to their own maximum oxygen intake. The intensities of exercises are respectively 55%VO2max, 75%VO2max, 85%VO2max, 95%VO2max. The urine 40ml and venous blood 3ml will be collected and tested before sport and 15minutes after the exercises. Results After four different intensities of exercise, the renin of each exercise group increased compared with the quiet value, and the greater the intensity, the more obvious the trend of change. Compared with the quiet value, the expression of angiotensin II increased in all groups after exercise, but there was no significant difference between the 55%VO2max intensity group and the 75%VO2max intensity group (P > 0.05), and there was significant difference between the 85%VO2max intensity group and the 95%VO2max intensity group (P < 0.05). Compared with the quiet value, the expression of aldosterone increased after each exercise. The mean value of 55%VO2max intensity group, 75%VO2max intensity group and 85%VO2max intensity group increased, but the difference was not significant (P > 0.05), and the 95%VO2max intensity group had a very significant difference (P < 0.01). To investigate the ultrastructural changes of the mitochondria in the skeletal muscle cells of rats subjected to repeated exhausting exercises on treadmill and the protective effect of oral vitamin E.Thirty male SD rats were randomized into control group (n=10), exhausting exercise group (n=10) and exhausting exercise group with oral vitamin E treatment (n=10), with the latter two groups taking repeated exhausting running exercises on the treadmill in a course of 4 weeks. At the end of the course of exercises, the rats were sacrificed and the quadriceps femoris muscles isolated for observation the ultrastructures of the skeletal muscle cells by transmission electron microscope (TEM).After 4-week exhausting exercises, the myofilaments of the skeletal muscle were seen in disordered alignment, and the mitochondria exhibited abnormal morphological changes of swelling and vacuolar degeneration. In vitamin E-treated rats also undertaking the exercise, the ultrastructures of the skeletal muscle cells were almost normal as compared with the normal control group.Vitamin E can protect the function of the skeletal muscle mitochondria of rats taking repeated exhausting exercises.

To investigate the effect of antioxidant vitamins (vitamin E and vitamin C) on the exercise performance of rats.Fifty male SD rats were randomly divided into control group (C), exhausting exercise control group (E), vitamin E group (M1), vitamin C group (M2) and vitamin E plus vitamin C group (M3). The rats in the exercising groups (E, M1, M2, M3) were propelled for repeated exhausting runs on the treadmill for 4 weeks.Exclusive use of oral vitamin E or in combination with vitamin C significantly improved the body mass, total exercise treadmill length and net mass of rat quadriceps femoris after the 4-week exercise. No difference was noted between the rats taking oral vitamin C or E alone. The rats in M1, M2 and M3 groups had lower malondialdehyde (MDA) and free calcium content in the quadriceps femoris than the control rats, and SOD activities in the quadriceps femoris mitochondria of rats in the former 3 groups were significantly higher than those of the control group.Vitamin E can protect the mitochondria in the skeletal muscles and improve the exercise performance of rats, the effect of which can be enhanced by vitamin C, but vitamin C alone can not sufficiently achieve the effects.
