Objective To investigate the disability and influencing factors of newly diagnosed leprosy cases in Wenshan Prefecture, and to provide theoretical basis for reducing the incidence of disability in leprosy and reducing the harm of leprosy. Methods All leprosy patients diagnosed in Wenshan Prefecture, Yunnan Province from 2013 to 2022 were selected as the research subjects, and the epidemiological information and case data of the patients were collected. An excel database was established and SPSS26. 0 software was used to analyze the data. Results A total of 366 newly diagnosed leprosy cases were collected, of which 64 cases develop disability, with disability rate of 17.49%, the rate of disability grade 1 of 6.28%, and the rate of disability grade 2 of 11.20 %. Currently, leprosy is mainly detected in dermatology clinics (49. 80%), and diagnosis delayed > 2 years and paucibacillary leprosy(PB) were the risk factors for the development of disability in leprosy patients (P < 0.05). Conclusion Delay of diagnosis > 2 years and PB in leprosy patients have a higher risk of developing disability. Medical institutions should strengthen the screening of suspected symptoms of leprosy, perform early detection, early diagnosis and early treatment, reduce the delayed diagnosis of leprosy, reduce the proportion of newly diagnosed leprosy patients with disability, and improve the quality of life of leprosy patients.
