Background: Phototherapy is one of the treatments for vitiligo. To be specific, the combination of narrowband ultraviolet B (NB-UVB) with topical preparations has currently become the most common therapeutic modality. Moreover, the research on new topical drug has been a hot issue in the field of vitiligo. Objective: At present, simvastatin has been considered as a potential therapeutic agent for the treatment of vitiligo. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case report concerning the successful application of NBUVB combined with topical simvastatin in the treatment of vitiligo. Methods: In this article, a clinical case report was presented, where the patient was not responsive to NB-UVB but was markedly responsive to the treatment of UVB combined with topical simvastatin. Results: A 34-year-old Chinese female patient with vitiligo was cured by NB-UVB combined with topical simvastatin solution. Conclusions: NB-UVB combined with topical simvastatin may be a potential treatment against vitiligo. This research was approved by the Medical Ethics Committee of Third People’s Hospital of Hangzhou. In this study, we systematically evaluate the intra-seasonal oscillation (ISO) associated with the Asian summer monsoon region in coupled general circulation models (GCMs) participating in the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Fifth Assessment Report (AR5). Results show that most of the models simulate reasonable climatological circulation patterns in boreal summer, but insufficient precipitation over the Bay of Bengal (BOB) and western North Pacific summer monsoon region. Most models underestimate the variance of 12_90-day ISO mode but overestimate the percent variance of 12_90-day ISO accounting for raw precipitation anomalies. There remains a wide gap between model simulations and observations in the simulations of eastward-propagating ISO (30_80-day), while the models perform better in the northward propagation of the 30_80-day mode and the westward propagation of the 12_24-day mode. In addition, mean state circulation, atmospheric internal dynamic process, air-sea interactions and model resolution have varying degrees of impacts on the ISO simulation. The local Hadley and Walker cell biases are investigated in this study, which might relate well with the precipitation bias in models. Within the similar background of vertical easterly shear, few models have the capacity to simulate the equivalent barotropic vorticity to the north of the convection centre. Furthermore, many models have difficulty in reproducing the strong air_sea interactions over the Indian Ocean and the BOB. Our results indicate that simply improving model resolution is not an effective method to obtain more reasonable propagation characteristics of the ISO, especially for eastward propagation. Overloading of road freight vehicles accelerates road damage, creates unfair competition in the transport market, and increases safety risk. There is a dearth of research on the mining of data of highway Freight Weight (FW), and this paper therefore aims to discover factors affecting road freight overloading based on highway FW data, with a view of developing strategies to mitigate such occurrences. A comprehensive sampling survey of road freight transportation was conducted in Anhui Province (China). Vehicle Characteristics (VC), Operation Mode (OM), and transportation information from a total of 3248 trucks were collected. In order to take advantage of the strengths associated with both statistical modelling techniques and non-parametric methods, a Classification And Regression Tree (CART) technique was integrated with Binary Logistic Regression (BLR) to reveal the factors affecting road freight overloading. The classification efficacy test shows that the BLR-CART method outperformed the BLR method in term of accuracy. It is also revealed that the factors affecting overloading of freight vehicles are the Type of Transportation (ToT), Rated Load (RL), OM, FW during the investigation period, interaction between RL and FW, and interaction among RL, FW, and Average Haul Distance (AHD). Road transport authorities should pay greater attention to these factors in order to improve efficiency and effectiveness of overloading inspection. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper reviews progress in the study of Tibetan Plateau (TP) climate dynamics over the past decade. Several theoretical frameworks, including thermal adaptation and the TP sensible heat (SH) driving air-pump, have been developed to identify the mechanisms responsible for the circulation anomaly produced by thermal forcing of the TP. Numerical simulations demonstrate that the thermal effects of large-scale orography, including the Tibetan and Iranian Plateaus (TIP), are crucial for the formation of the East Asian and South Asian summer monsoons (SASM) because the surface SH of the TIP is the major driver of the water vapor transport required for the genesis of the north branch of the SASM.The large-scale orography of the TP affects the Asian climate through thermal forcing in spring and summer, and mechanical forcing in winter. The TP forcing can also influence the Asian summer monsoon (ASM) onset over the Bay of Bengal (BOB) by enhancing the BOB warm pool at the surface and by modulating the South Asian High (SAH) in the upper troposphere. On intra-seasonal timescales, the TP thermal forcing significantly modulates spring rainfall in southern China and generates the biweekly oscillation of the SAH in summer. Despite climate warming, the atmospheric heat source over the TP, particularly the spring SH, exhibits a clear weakening trend from the 1980s to 2000s. This weakening of the spring SH contributed to the anomalous 'dry in the north' and 'wet in the south' rainfall pattern observed over East China. Also discussed are challenges to further understanding the mechanism of TP forcing on the multi-scale variability of the ASM. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
