Recent advances in supercontinuum light generation have been remarkable, particularly in the context of highly nonlinear photonic integrated waveguides. In this study, we thoroughly investigate supercontinuum (SC) generation in high-index doped silica glass integrated waveguides, exploring various femtosecond pumping wavelengths and input polarization states. We demonstrate broadband SC generation spanning from 700 nm to 2400 nm when pumping within the anomalous dispersion regime at 1200 nm, 1300 nm, and 1550 nm. In contrast, pumping within the normal dispersion regime at 1000 nm results in narrower SC spectra, primarily due to coherent nonlinear effects such as self-phase modulation and optical wave breaking. Additionally, we examine the impact of TE/TM polarization modes on SC generation, shedding light on the polarization-dependent characteristics of the broadening process. Moreover, Raman scattering measurements reveal the emergence of two new peaks at 48.8 THz and 75.1 THz in the Raman gain curve. Our experimental results are supported by numerical simulations based on a generalized nonlinear Schrodinger equation that incorporates the new Raman gain contribution. Finally, relative intensity noise measurements conducted using the dispersive Fourier transform technique indicate excellent stability of the generated SC spectra., Comment: 21 pages, 13 figures

We report the observation of Brillouin backscattering in a 50-cm long spiral high-index doped silica chip waveguide and measured a Brillouin frequency shift of 16 GHz which is in very good agreement with theoretical predictions and numerical simulations based on the elastodynamics equation., Comment: 5 pages, 6 figures

We demonstrate how a narrowband pump and a broadband spectrum can be spatially multiplexed by selective coupling them in two distinct modes of a few-mode microstructure fiber. The first mode carries most of the input pump energy, and experiences spectral broadening. Whereas the second mode preserves the narrow bandwidth of the remaining part of the pump. Bimodal propagation, with a power unbalance strongly in favor of the fundamental mode, is naturally obtained by maximizing coupling into the fundamental mode of the fiber. At the fiber output, the nearly monochromatic beam and the supercontinuum carried by the two different modes are combined by a microscope objective, and used as a pump and a Stokes wave for self-referenced multiplex coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering micro-spectroscopy. The spectral resolution, the signal-to-noise-ratio, and the possible amplification of the remaining pump beam are discussed., Comment: 10 pages, 9 figures

We use dispersive Fourier transformation to measure shot-to-shot spectral instabilities in femtosecond supercontinuum generation. We study both the onset phase of supercontinuum generation with distinct dispersive wave generation, as well as a highly-unstable supercontinuum regime spanning an octave in bandwidth. Wavelength correlation maps allow interactions between separated spectral components to be identified, even when such interactions are not apparent in shot-to-shot or average measurements. Experimental results are interpreted using numerical simulations. The ability to measure real-time fluctuations of ultrashort pulses propagating in optical fiber has provided significant insights into fundamental dynamical effects such as modulation instability and the formation of frequency-shifting rogue wave solitons. We report here a detailed study of real-time fluctuations across the full bandwidth of a fiber supercontinuum which directly reveals the significant variation in measured noise statistics across the spectrum, and which allows us to study correlations between widely separated spectral components. For two different propagation distances corresponding to the onset phase of spectral broadening and the fully-developed supercontinuum, we measure real time noise across the supercontinuum bandwidth, and we quantify the supercontinuum noise using statistical higher-order moments and a frequency-dependent intensity correlation map. We identify correlated spectral regions within the supercontinuum associated with simultaneous sideband generation, as well as signatures of pump depletion and soliton-like pump dynamics. Experimental results are in excellent agreement with simulations.
