Artificial Intelligence (AI) is developing at a rapid pace and finding new applications across the health service team. Some professionals have voiced concerns over the implementation of AI, whilst others predict greater job opportunities in the future. Nursing practice will be directly affected and further information is required on the knowledge and perceptions of nurses regarding the integration of AI in practice. The study aims to assess the knowledge, attitude, willingness, and organizational readiness in integrating AI into nursing practice.An exploratory cross-sectional survey of nurses working in health organisations. A survey link was emailed to participants. Nurses working in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) health organisations were invited to participate. Eligibility criteria included registered nurses in government or private hospitals. The survey captured the nurses demographic, knoweldage, preceptions, orgianizational readinesss and challenges regarding implementation of AI into nursing practice.553 responses were returned from 650 invitation giving a response rate of 85%. 51% of respondents stated their knowledge on AI was obtained through self-taught measures for most of the participants, while 20% of them gained it through various courses. Only 8% stated they learned through postgraduate courses, while 9% stated they lack knowledge of AI. 75% of all respondents agreed that the nursing curriculum should include some basic knowledge of AI.There is a lack of understanding of the principles of AI across the nursing profession. Further education and training is required to enable a seamless and safe integration of AI into nursing practice.

Analyzing the current state of artificial intelligence (AI) is a critical first step toward its integration into physiotherapy practice. Therefore, this study aimed to assess physiotherapist (PT) perceptions, knowledge, and willingness to accept AI implementation. An exploratory cross-sectional online questionnaire was conducted for PT working in Unite Arab Emirates (UAE) from October to December 2021. A previously validated survey gathered the participant's demographic information, perceptions, knowledge, readiness, and challenges of integrating AI into practice. The results showed a considerable lack of knowledge among PT about AI. Most of the participants appreciated the role of AI applications and expected it would play a significant role in practice. Participants indicated the lack of educational resources and proper training as the main challenges for AI integration. Participants expressed a strong desire to incorporate AI into undergraduate and graduate programs. The excitement about integrating AI in physiotherapy practice requires an effort to provide education and training for students and professionals. Physiotherapists were worried that the job disturbance could be released with proper preparations to improve awareness about the AI role and challenges. Implementation of AI into PT practice will shape the future of healthcare delivery and education of physiotherapists. AI will make a faster diagnosis, better performance, and accurate results for patients and providers. Even at this early stage of AI implementation in physiotherapy, AI application raises questions and increase expectations.

Rationale and Objectives This study aimed to investigate radiologists' and radiographers' knowledge, perception, readiness, and challenges regarding Artificial Intelligence (AI) integration into radiology practice. Materials and Methods An electronically distributed cross-sectional study was conducted among radiologists and radiographers in the United Arab Emirates. The questionnaire captured the participants' demographics, qualifications, professional experience, and postgraduate training. Their knowledge, perception, organisational readiness, and challenges regarding AI integration into radiology were examined. Results There was a significant lack of knowledge and appreciation of the integration of AI into radiology practice. Organisations are stepping toward building AI implementation strategies. The availability of appropriate training courses is the main challenge for both radiographers and radiologists. Conclusion The excitement of AI implementation into radiology practise was accompanied by a lack of knowledge and effort required to improve the user's appreciation of AI. The knowledge gap requires collaboration between educational institutes and professional bodies to develop structured training programs for radiologists and radiographers.

Objectives This study investigates the effect of Annona muricata (AM) leaf extract against irradiation-induced damage by the evaluation of hepatic tissue and the levels of oxidative and inflammatory stress in the circulation. Methods An experimental study with 37 female Wistar albino rats randomized into four groups (controls and three intervention groups) was performed. The first interventional group (group 2) received 300 mg/kg of AM leaf extract by oral gavage once a day for 9 days, group 3 received a single dose of whole-body radiation (8.3 Gy) after a 9-day oral gavage treatment with saline, and the last group received the same irradiation of 8.3 Gy after being treated with 300 mg/kg of AM leaf extract by oral gavage once a day for 9 days. Results Radiation was found to elevate reactive oxygen species parameters, and AM administration before irradiation was found to decrease total oxidant status (TOS), increase caspase 9, and improve hepatic damage when compared with the group that received only irradiation. Conclusion The damage caused by irradiation may be ameliorated by the use of the AM extract, which appears to be effective in preventing oxidative stress and inflammatory activity.

Ionizing radiation interaction might occur during diagnostic imaging and radiotherapy procedures. It has been reported that gamma-ray radiation can damage the living cells through the energy transfer. Therefore, investigation the ionization radiation attenuation properties of biomaterials have a crucial importance. In the current study, tungsten disulphide (WS2) nanopowder-containing borate-based bioactive glass composites were prepared. Their physical, structural, mechanical and ionization radiation attenuation properties were investigated in detail. Monte Carlo simulations and radiation attenuation properties were studied through MCNPX and Phy-X/PSD. Results showed that sintering performed at 575 °C for 1 h in air atmosphere caused formation of some tungsten trioxide in the structure. Addition of WS2 nanopowders increased the bulk density and improved the mechanical properties of the prepared bioactive glass composites. Simulation studies revealed the influence of WS2 content on reduction the build-up factors and enhancement of the photon attenuation ability for all the considered photon energies.

Objectives: This study aimed to examine the effects of an individual’s generation group on anxiety related to online learning among students and online learning and teaching activities among faculty. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted at the University of Sharjah, Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, in April 2020 using the Online Course Anxiety Scale. The questionnaires were sent to 370 undergraduate students and 81 faculty members via email and the responses were stratified by generation. Descriptive statistics and an independent sample t-test was used to compare the mean scores of online learning anxiety with gender and previous experience among faculty and students. Results: A total of 358 students and 70 faculty members completed the questionnaire (response rate: 96.8% and 86.4%, respectively). Only 5.7% of the faculty (compared to 54.7% of the students) enjoyed browsing internet resources during online learning. Among the faculty, 75.7% experienced anxiety during online teaching compared to 37.7% of students. Of the faculty, 92.3% of baby boomers felt anxious compared to 70.5% and 76.9% of X and Y generations, respectively. Conclusion: While students of Generations Z and Y enjoyed browsing the internet during online learning, the Generation Z students were anxious during online discussions and concerned about the misinterpretation of their written communication. Anxiety among faculty members was related to confusion regarding the use of the internet and computers and misinterpretations of text-based messages. Assessing the current Artificial intelligence (AI) situation is a crucial step towards its implementation into radiology practice. The study aimed to assess radiographer willingness to accept AI in radiology work practice and the impact of AI in work performance. An exploratory cross-sectional online survey conducted for radiographers working within the Middle East and India was conducted from May–August 2020. A previously validated survey used to obtain radiographer's demographics, knowledge, perceptions, organization readiness, and challenges of integrating AI into radiology. The survey was accessible for radiographers and distributed through the societies page. The survey was completed by 549 radiographers distributed as (77.6%, n = 426) from the Middle East while (22.4%, n = 123) from India. A majority (86%, n = 773) agreed that AI currently plays an important role in radiology and (88.0%, n = 483) expected that AI would play a role in radiology practice and image production. The challenges for AI implementation in practice were developing AI skills (42.8%, n = 235) and AI knowledge development (37.0%, n = 203). Participants showed high interest to integrate AI in under and postgraduate curriculum. There is excitement about what AI could offer, but education input is a requirement. Fears are expressed about job security and how radiology may work across all ages and educational backgrounds. Radiographers become aware of AI role and challenges, which can be improved by education and training.

Elastic moduli parameters and photon attenuation competence of phosphate (P2O5)/sodium (Na2O)/calcium (CaO) glasses with form 45P2O5–(55-x)Na2O–xCaO: x = 0–55 mol% (PNC-0:PNC-55) have been estimated and clarified. The development in Poisson’s ratio and elastic moduli parameters (bulk, Young’s, shear, and longitudinal) of the heavier CaO content of the PNC-glasses were proved through Makishima-Mackenzie (M-M) and bond compression (B-C) models. The B-C bulk elastic (KB-C) modulus was found to raise from 71.4 to 95.16 GPa, while the M-M bulk (KM-M) modulus was increased from 22.48 to 40.75 GPa for PNC-0 (glass sample free with CaO) and PNC-55 (glass sample rich with CaO), respectively. The highest mass attenuation coefficient (MAC) values were reported for PNC-55 sample, whereas the lowest were reported for PNC-0 sample. Half value layer (HVL) values were reported as 1.6526 cm, 1.6181 cm, 1.5734 cm, 1.5275 cm, 1.4847 cm, 1.441 cm, and 1.4172 cm for PNC-0, PNC-10, PNC-20, PNC-30, PNC-40, PNC-50, and PNC-55 samples at 0.1 MeV, respectively. The effective atomic numbers (Zeff) were reported as 10.2658, 10.4393, 10.6149, 10.7924, 10.9719, 11.1536, and 11.2451 for PNC-0, PNC-10, PNC-20, PNC-30, PNC-40, PNC-50, and PNC-55 samples at 0.1 MeV, respectively. The PNC-55 sample was reported with a maximum value of effective atomic weight for absorption (Aeff). The lowest exposure and energy absorption buildup factors (EBF and EABF) values were discovered for the PNC-55 sample, while the highest EBF values were found for the pure PNC-0 sample. Finally, one can conclude that the PNC-55 is a superior for gamma-ray attenuation competencies.

Introduction Despite the existence of opportunities for postgraduate studies in radiography, the number of radiographers involved in postgraduate education is low and their research production is also considered low compared to other professions. The main aim of this study was to understand the profile of radiography Doctorate holders across the Arab countries, document their current role and identify barriers that may influence research and professional publication activity. Methods There is no formal database of doctoral radiographers in Arab countries, therefore a snowball sampling technique was used to recruit participants beyond those identified through organizational websites. An online survey was distributed to the participants with implied consent being applied through completion of the survey. Results From 53 responses, 78% were male and 98% were diagnostic radiographers. Fifty-one percent completed their PhD in non-Arab countries and 55% self-funded (paid for themselves) their PhD study. An increase in doctoral students was observed over time, where 36% (n = 19) of participants will graduate in 2020 and afterward. Barriers reported as preventing radiographers pursuing research/publication were support, employing institutions, lack of research focussed leadership and lack of collaboration. Conclusion Government support and direction from national professional bodies is needed. To enable research growth, there must be a foundational component within pre-registration/licensing education. Implications for practice Focussing on government or professional body supported projects that are divided into smaller linked investigations can provide foundational work for PhD development. It is through these opportunities that practitioner research enhancement and capability is improved. Potential Arabian regional and wider international collaborations should be pursued in future as a developmental approach.

Objectives: The aim of this review is to appraise the available literature on peer assessment, its implementation, students’ perceptions and its strengths and limitations. Materials and Methods: A search was prospectively designed to locate the literature relevant to achieving the aims of the review. A pilot review was conducted to ascertain the volume of literature. A wide range of closely related search terms was utilised and combined. Results: Results of the review show that peer assessment is a valuable experience, and most students enjoy the peer assessment process. The mutual process of peer assessment has a positive impact on students’ learning; it allows students to evaluate themselves, comment on each other's work and develop more detailed knowledge. It motivates them to achieve better learning outcomes, promotes self-awareness and increases confidence. Students’ involvement in the assessment process supports their learning and encourages reflection. Peer assessment improves clinical performance, as it develops critical thinking and problem-solving skills, encourages self-assessment and promotes reflective practice. Conclusions: Similar to all assessment methods, peer assessment has advantages and drawbacks. Concerns about the reliability and validity of peer assessment are raised in the literature. To overcome these drawbacks, authors recommend double marking by faculty members, multiple peer assessors, and clear grading criteria. Furthermore, providing written feedback rather than grades, as well as ensuring anonymity, are recommended in the peer assessment process to ensure a safe environment that can promote students’ comfort. Nevertheless, student support throughout the peer assessment process is important for proper implementation. Introduction This study is a part of an effort to determine the challenges faced by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) radiographers towards role extension and advanced practice. It reflects the current practice and challenges facing role extension compared to international advancement. The study aimed to assess the radiographers who worked at mammography screening perception and readiness to accept role extension and advanced practice in mammography. Methods A cross-sectional descriptive study using an online survey was conducted among radiographers who practice mammography. The survey captured demographics, qualifications, professional education, future development plans, interest in role extension, and incentive to pursue the mammography profession. Results Forty-five radiographers were invited to participate in the study the response rate was 71% (n=32), 34.4 (11%) were UAE nationals with the remainder being expats. The majority were young between 25 and 45 years old (84.4%), 81.3% hold a BSc qualification. 56.3% completed a post-qualification training specialized mammography certificate. 81% of the participants showed interest in role extension after appropriate education, training, and supervision by radiologists. Conclusion This study reports on the perceptions and readiness of radiographers on advanced practice within breast-screening centers. The results show acceptance and support after proper training, clear career pathway, and licensing body recognition. The role of the radiographer in the UAE is still growing.

To assess the relationship between gamma ray shielding performance and glass-melting conditions, an extensive investigation was performed on different types of fluoro-sulfo-phosphate (FPS) glasses. Four different FPS glasses melted in Al and Pt crucibles were modeled in MCNPX (version 2.6.0) general purpose Monte Carlo code. For this aim, a gamma-ray transmission setup has been modeled with essential simulation equipment. The mass attenuation coefficients for each glass sample in different melting-condition were determined. The obtained mass attenuation coefficients were utilized for determination of Half Value Layers (HVL) and mean free paths (mfp). Next, energy absorption buildup factors (EABF) and exposure buildup factors (EBF) of investigated FPS glasses were determined by using geometric-progression (G-P) fitting method. To evaluate the effect of glass-melting conditions on fast neutrons, effective removal cross sections of FPS glasses were calculated. Finally, an extensive comparison between the superior samples of FPS glasses melted in Al and Pt crucibles were performed. The results showed that GPT-4 sample melted in Pt crucible has relatively higher radiation shielding properties than GAL-2 sample which melted in Al crucible. In addition to material additive, the results showed that even glass-melting conditions has a significant impact on radiation shielding properties of glass material. It can be concluded that, in addition to the most effective material additives into glass structures to improve radiation shielding performances, providing them in the most favorable melting-conditions can provide a versatile improvement.

Purpose This study assessed the effectiveness of breast and eye shielding and measured the radiation dose to radiosensitive tissues (eyes and breasts) due to scatter radiation during cervical spine X-ray radiography examinations. Methods Using an anthropomorphic phantom, the scattered radiation dose was measured before and after the placement of the lead shield over the eyes and breasts in the anteroposterior (AP) and left lateral projection. A regression formula was utilized to determine the exposure. Mean values and standard deviation of breasts and eyes doses were calculated. The paired two sample t-test was used to compare the recorded dose before and after shielding placement. Results Radiation shielding of eyes and breasts during AP cervical spine X-ray decreased radiation dose to the breasts by 99.9% and to the left and right eye by 91% and 89%, respectively. For the left lateral cervical spine X-ray, the radiation dose decreased by 26% and 31% for the left and right eye, respectively, and by 23% and 99% for the left and right breast, respectively. A significant difference was noted comparing the dose before and after the implementing shielding on the eye and breast. Conclusion According to the results presented, the dose is significantly reduced, especially considering that they are not in the area of interest but are exposed to scatter radiation.

Purpose Occupational radiation exposure for medical workers in radiology and cardiology was analyzed in nine hospitals in the UAE between 2002 and 2016. The purpose of the study was to determine the time trend and the differences in occupational radiation exposure among worker groups and hospitals in the country. Methods Readings of 5700 thermoluminescence dosimeters (TLDs) were obtained from 1011 medical workers and grouped into 5 worker groups (radiographers, diagnostic radiologists, nurses, cardiologists and physicians). Results The mean annual effective dose was from 0.38 to 0.62 mSv per worker. Even though an increase in the collective effective dose has been noticed during the study period, no significant time trend was observed in the mean effective dose. Furthermore, cardiologists received higher mean and maximum effective doses than the other worker groups. Conclusion The annual effective doses were below the limits set by national legislation and international standards, and for the average worker, the likelihood of high exposure is small. However, improvements in radiation protection practices could be implemented to reduce occupational radiation dose to cardiologists, who were the most exposed worker group in this study.

Falls are an important clinical, socioeconomic, and public health problem in the older adult population. Advancing age is a major risk factor for mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and Alzheimer's disease (AD). The preclinical phase of AD, which is regarded as an important window for early therapeutic intervention before the onset of MCI and subsequently AD, can serve as a critical period to reduce or prevent falls among elderly people at risk of AD. In this chapter, first, a discussion is provided on the degrees of fall-related injuries, pain, and severity of falls in elderly people at risk of AD. Secondly, a discussion is provided on the clinical, socioeconomic, and public health implications of falls. Studies that integrated neuroimaging techniques were also reviewed to identify brain biomarkers that can be targeted for the prevention of falls among the elderly. It is anticipated that the outcome of this chapter may have a critical role in the prevention of falls among elderly people at risk or suffering from AD.

Rationale and objectives Radiology personnel must have good knowledge, experience and adherence to radiation protection and infection control practices to ensure patient safety and prevent the further spread of the COVID-19 virus. This study analysed compliance and adherence to radiation protection and infection control during COVID-19 mobile radiography. Methods A cross-sectional using online survey was conducted from September to December 2021. Data on demographic characteristics, adherence to radiation protection and infection control practice were collected during mobile radiography for COVID-19 patients in the study. A random sample of the radiographers working in COVID-19 centres in the United Arab Emirates. Results Responses were received from 140 participants, with a response rate of 87.5%. Females were the predominant participants (n = 81; 58%). Participants aged ages between 18–25 years (n = 46; 33%) and 26–35 years (n = 42; 30%), (n = 57; 41%) had less than five years of experience, followed by participants who had more than 15 years (n = 38; 27%). Most participants (n = 81; 57.9%) stated that they performed approximately 1–5 suspected or confirmed COVID-19 cases daily. The participants had moderate to high adherence to radiation protection, with a mean and standard deviation of 42.3 ± 6.28. Additionally, infection control adherence was high, with 82% of the participants showing high adherence. Conclusion Continuous guidance, training and follow-up are recommended to increase adherence and compliance to radiation protection and infection control compliance. Educational institutions and professional organisations must collaborate to provide structured training programmes for radiology practitioners to overcome the practice and knowledge gap.

We present elastic moduli, gamma radiation attenuation characteristics, and transmission factor of barium–tungstate–phosphate (BTP) glasses with the chemical formula (60-y)BaO-yWO3-40P2O5, where y = 10 (S1)–40 (S4) in steps of 10 mole%. Different types of mathematical and simulation approaches, such as the Makishima-Mackenzie model, the Monte Carlo method, and the online Phy-X/PSD software, are utilized in terms of determining these parameters. The total packing density (Vt) is enriched from 0.607 to 0.627, while the total energy dissociation (Gt) is enriched by increasing the WO3 content (from 52.2 (kJ/cm3). In the investigated glasses, increasing tungstate trioxide (WO3) contribution enhanced Young’s, shear, bulk, and longitudinal moduli. Moreover, Poisson’s ratio is improved by increasing the WO3 content in the BTP glasses. The 20BaO-40WO3-40P2O5 sample possessed the highest values of both linear (µ) and mass attenuation (µm) coefficients, i.e., (µ, µm)S4 > (µ, µm)S3 > (µ, µm)S2 > (µ, µm)S1. Moreover, the 20BaO-40WO3-40P2O5 sample had the lowest values of half (HVL) and tenth (TVL) layers, i.e., (half, tenth)S4 < (half, tenth)S3 < (half, tenth)S2 < (half, tenth)S1. The effective atomic number (Zeff) of the studied glasses has the same behavior as µ and µm. Finally, the 20BaO-40WO3-40P2O5 is reported with the minimum values of transmission factor (TF) for all the BTP investigated at a thickness of 3 cm. In conclusion, the sample with composition 20BaO-40WO3-40P2O5 which has the maximum WO3 reinforcement may be a beneficial glass sample, along with its advanced mechanical and gamma ray shielding properties.

lt;bgt;Background and Objective:lt;/bgt; Pediatric Computed Tomography (CT) is a fast, accurate imaging examination using ionizing radiation to create detailed images of pathological conditions. The radiation benefit should be outweighing the risk through the procure justification and dose optimization. The study aimed to investigate the correlation between the physician's initial diagnosis and the CT findings to build procedure justification for a pediatric patient's head scan.lt;bgt;Materials and Methods:lt;/bgt; The study included 81 children examined clinically and by CT scan to diagnose cranial and cerebral pathology. Eighty-one pediatric patients were investigated by CT scan and clinical diagnosis.lt;bgt;Results:lt;/bgt; The patient age ranged between 1-15 years old, (44%) were male and (56%) females. The patients referred to the CT scan from emergency department n = 10 (7%), outpatient clinics n = 66, (84%) and inpatients clinics n = 5, (9%). The study showed that 46% of patients were normal with no CT findings. Almost half of the cases were negative and did not confirm the clinical diagnosis.lt;bgt;Conclusion:lt;/bgt; The study concluded that most head CT scans in children were not justified. An effort towards improving the refereeing physician's awareness about radiation dose and request justification should be conducted.

Introduction Worldwide, reports and experiences indicate that there has been extensive re-organisation within diagnostic imaging and radiotherapy departments in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. This was necessary due to changes in workload and working practice guidelines that have evolved during the pandemic. This review provides a comprehensive summary of the global impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on radiography practice, service delivery and workforce wellbeing. Methods A systematic review methodology was adopted to obtain data from primary studies of qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods designs from databases (PubMed, Science Direct, Cumulative Index of Nursing and Allied Health Literature [CINAHL], and SCOPUS: all 2020 to present). The included articles were subjected to information extraction and results-based convergent synthesis. Results The electronic database search yielded 10,420 articles after removal of duplicates. Of these, 31 articles met the final inclusion criteria with some (n = 8) fully focussed on radiotherapy workforce and service delivery. The pandemic impact on radiography practice is broadly themed around: training, communication, and information dissemination; infrastructure, technology, and clinical workflow; and workforce mental health and well-being. Conclusion Globally, most radiographers received inadequate training for managing COVID-19 patients during the initial acute phase of the pandemic. Additionally, there were significant changes to clinical practice, working patterns and perceived increase in workload due to surges in COVID-19 patients and the consequent strict adherence to new infection protocols. These changes, coupled with fear emanating from the increased risk of the workforce to contracting the infection, contributed to anxiety and workplace-related stress during the pandemic. Implications for practice Local pandemic response strategies must be appropriately developed from standard protocols in readiness for safe clinical practice and well-being management training of practitioners.

The purpose of this work is to evaluate the impacts of body off-center positioning on CT numbers and dose index CTDIv of two scanners from GE. HD750 and APEX scanners were used to acquire a PBU60 phantom of Kagaku and a 062M phantom of CIRS respectively. CT images were acquired at various off-center positions under automatic tube current modulation using various peak voltages. CTDIv were recorded for each of the acquisitions. An abdomen section of the PBU60 phantom was used for CT number analysis and tissue inserts of the 062M phantom were filled with water balloons to mimic the human abdomen. CT numbers of central regions of interests were averaged using the Fiji software. As phantoms were lifted above the iso-center, both CTDIv and CT numbers were increased for the HD750 scanner whilst they were approximately constant for the APEX scanner. The measured sizes of anterior-posterior projection images were also increased for both scanners whilst the sizes of lateral projection images were increased for the HD750 scanner but decreased for the APEX scanner. Off-center correction algorithms were implemented in the APEX scanner. Matching the X-ray projection center with the system’s iso-center could improve the accuracy of CT imaging.

The direct influence of La3+ ions on the gamma-ray shielding properties of cobalt-doped heavy metal borate glasses with the chemical formula 0.3CoO-(80-x)B2O3-19.7PbO-xLa2O3: x = 0, 0.5, 1, 1.5, and 2 mol% was examined herein. Several significant radiation shielding parameters were evaluated. The glass density was increased from 3.11 to 3.36 g/cm3 with increasing La3+ ion content from 0 to 2 mol%. The S5 glass sample, which contained the highest concentration of La3+ ions (2 mol%), had the maximum linear (μ) and mass (μm) attenuation coefficients for all photon energies entering, while the S1 glass sample free of La3+ ions possessed the minimum values of μ and μm. Both the half value layer (T1/2) and tenth value layer (TVL) of all investigated glasses showed a sim-ilar trend of (T1/2, TVL)S1 > (T1/2, TVL)S2 > (T1/2, TVL)S3 > (T1/2, TVL)S4 > (T1/2, TVL)S5. Our results re-vealed that the S5 sample had the highest effective atomic number (Zeff) values over the whole range of gamma-ray energy. S5 had the lowest exposure (EBF) and energy absorption (EABF) build-up factor values across the whole photon energy and penetration depth range. Our findings give a strong indication of the S5 sample’s superior gamma-ray shielding characteristics due to the highest contribution of lanthanum oxide. © 2021 by the authors. A two-phased retrospective cross-sectional study analysed the occupational dose and radiation protection practice among medical workers in two hospitals in the UAE. Phase 1 evaluated radiation protection practice using a questionnaire, whereas phase 2 assessed the occupational dose. Readings of 952 thermoluminescence dosimeters were analyzed. The result showed 52% of medical workers have a good level of radiation protection practice. Cardiologists and nurses displayed a higher average of occupational radiation dose compared to other workers. There were no significant correlations between radiation protection practice and hospital, occupation or department. Finally, the occupational dose was within the international and national limits, but the reduction of radiation dose to cardiologist and nurses is essential. Moreover, training is essential to promote radiation safe practice among medical workers.
