Malnutrition frequently occurs in patients with chronic liver disease, and may influence both short and long term clinical outcome in these patients. Therefore, nutritional intervention may play an important role in the management of chronic liver disease patients. Recent progress in nutritional assessment, principles of nutrition management and the impact of malnutrition upon the clinical outcome of chronic liver disease are reviewed and summarized.
