Wide-field-of-view imager that observes the earth environment with four solar reflective bands in a spatial resolution of 16m is equipped onboard Gaofen (GF)-1 satellite. Chlorophyll-a (Chl-a) concentration in Lake Taihu, China from 2018 to 2019 are collected and collocated with GF-1 satellite data. This study develops a general and reliable estimation of Chl-a concentration from GF-1 WFV data under a turbid inland water conditions. The collocated data are classified according to season and used in random forest (RF) regression to train a model for retrieving the lake Chl-a concentration. A composite index is developed to select the most important variables in the models. The models trained for each season show a better performance than the model trained using the whole year data in terms of the coefficient of determination (R2) between retrievals and observations. Specifically, the R2 values in spring, summer, autumn, and winter are 0.88, 0.88, 0.94, and 0.74, respectively, whereas that using the whole year data is only 0.71. The Chl-a concentration in Lake Taihu exhibits an obvious seasonal change with the highest in summer, followed by autumn and spring, and the lowest in winter. The Chl-a concentration also displays an obvious spatial variation with season. A high concentration occurs mainly in the northwest of the lake. The temporal and spatial changes of Chl-a concentration are almost consistent with the changes in the areas and times of cyanobacteria blooms based on MODIS data. The proposed algorithm can be operated without a priori knowledge on atmospheric conditions and water quality. Our study also demonstrate that GF-1 data are increasingly valuable for monitoring the Chl-a concentration of inland water bodies in China at a high spatial resolution.

Biomedical microscopy images with high-resolution (HR) and axial information can help analysis and diagnosis. However, obtaining such images usually takes more time and economic costs, which makes it impractical in most scenarios. In this paper, we first propose a novel Self-texture Transfer Super-resolution and Refocusing Network (STSRNet) to reconstruct HR multi-focal plane (MFP) images from a single 2D low-resolution (LR) wide field image without relying on scanning or any special devices. The proposed STSRNet consists of three parts: the backbone module for extracting features, the self-texture transfer module for transferring and fusing features, and the flexible reconstruction module for SR and refocusing. Specifically, the self-texture transfer module is designed for images with self-similarity such as cytological images and it searches for similar textures within the image and transfers to help MFP reconstruction. As for reconstruction module, it is composed of multiple pluggable components, each of which is responsible for a specific focal plane, so as to performs SR and refocusing all focal planes at one time to reduce computation. We conduct extensive experiments on cytological images and the experiments show that MFP images reconstructed by STSRNet have richer details in the axial and horizontal directions than input images. At the same time, the reconstructed MFP images also perform better than single 2D wide field images on high-level tasks. The proposed method provides relatively high-quality MFP images when real MFP images cannot be obtained, which greatly expands the application potential of LR wide-field images. To further promote the development of this field, we released our cytology dataset named RSDC for more researchers to use.

Mutual occlusion is an essential feature for augmented reality (AR) displays for allowing the virtual content to be clearly perceived under an excessively illuminated environment. Although a few works have been done to facilitate the performance of occlusion-capable optical see-through augmented reality (OC-OST-AR) displays, the realization of mutual occlusion in a wide field-of-view (FOV) is still challenging. Divergent from typical hard-edge occlusion and soft edge-occlusion designs, we propose the paired-ellipsoidal-mirror (PEM) structure. The proposed system is allowed to support either hard-edge occlusion or enhanced soft-edge occlusion in a wide FOV by optionally fixing a spatial light modulator (SLM) before the entrance pupil or at an inner focal plane. The numerical aperture (NA) of the system is efficiently increased by the combination of paired ellipsoidal mirror imaging and aperture stop restriction. With proof-of-concept prototypes built, virtual display in a FOV of H160°×V74° and mutual occlusion in a FOV of H122°×V74° are demonstrated with a basic design, respectively. Furthermore, a mixed FOV of H95.3°×V52.9° is demonstrated by an optimized design with vertical parallax reduction and virtual display improvement.

Background To investigate the features in the posterior pole of highly myopic (HM) eyes using a wide-field high-resolution swept source optical coherence tomography (SS OCT). Methods This observational cross-sectional study involved 262 eyes of 139 patients, who were diagnosed as HM and had consecutively been examined by SS OCT in the Ophthalmology Department of the Peking Union Medical College Hospital between March 2019 and December 2019. The characteristics of OCT images were documented and analyzed. Results In our study, SS OCT could demonstrate the entire layer of the choroid and detect the sclera in all eyes. The mean subfoveal retinal/choroidal/scleral thickness were 204.84 ± 119.86 μm, 92.80 ± 75.78 μm and 394.734 ± 123.09 μm, respectively. 138 eyes (52.67%) had posterior precortical vitreous pocket. Myopic foveoschisis was detected in 110 eyes (41.98%), and significantly associated with the presence of posterior staphyloma. 36 eyes (13.74%) had DSM in our study, of which 8 eyes (22.22%) showed a round dome, 16 (44.44%) were horizontal oval-shaped, 9 (25%) were vertical oval-shaped and 3 (8.34%) were oblique oval-shaped. Both SFCT and SFST were inversely and significantly associated with age and refractive errors. Macular neovascularization was significantly correlated with intrascleral vessels. Different deformation of the sclera and posterior staphyloma were vividly identified on SS OCT images. Conclusions This study provided a relatively comprehensive picture of posterior pole in HM eyes. Such good visualization of ocular fundus provided by wide-field SS OCT could be useful for the therapy option, disease condition monitoring and pathogenesis investigation.

One challenge in the surgical management of breast cancer is maximizing the preservation of healthy tissue while achieving acceptable negative margins. Tools capable of assessing disease-margin involvement intraoperatively and in real-time could provide clinically useful guidance regarding the adequacy of margin resection before the surgery is over. Here we report the intraoperative use of optical coherence tomography (OCT) in 3 patients with DCIS. In all 3 cases, additional lesions identified by OCT during surgery were also noted in histopathology reports 3 to 5 days post-surgery, suggesting that intraoperative use of OCT is a valuable tool for margin determination in real-time.

The paper presents several reasonably priced wide field telescopes of 1 m class with prime focus corrector, which can be used to create a global network of survey telescopes of 1 m class. The main characteristics of the telescopes are compared with each other with a modern 9k × 9k CMOS detector, and with 1 m class Schmidt systems.

To evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of ultrawide pseudocolor retinal photography (pseudocolor UWF) compared to wide field fundus fluorescein angiography (WFFFA) in the detection of retinal neovascularization (NV) and NV of the disc (NVD) in patients with diabetic retinopathy (DR). Diagnostic accuracy observational study evaluating pseudocolor UWF as the index test. The reference standard was WFFFA. Single retinal centre in India. People with severe non-proliferative DR (sNPDR), early proliferative DR (ePDR) or high-risk proliferative DR (HR PDR). Sensitivity and specificity of pseudocolor UWF in the detection of NV. A total of 176 eyes of 94 subjects with sNPDR, ePDR or HR PDR underwent pseudocolor UWF and WFFFA. The sensitivity and specificity of pseudocolor UWF in detecting NVE were 92.5% (95% CI 86.2–96.5) and 81% (95% CI 64.8–92.0), respectively, with moderate interobserver agreement of 0.722 (p value 0.001). The positive predictive value and negative predictive value were 83.0 (71.4–90.5) and 91.5 (84.9–95.3), respectively. Compared to WFFFA as the gold standard, pseudocolor UWF has high sensitivity and specificity in detection of NV in all retinal quadrants and NVD. Therefore, pseudocolor UWF may be used as a non-invasive tool for screening and managing DR.

Background Fundus examination is an easy, quick and effective way to diagnose sight- and life-threatening diseases. However, medical students and physicians report lack of proficiency and self-confidence in perform fundoscopy. The aim of this study was to compare students’ self-confidence in fundus examination, using two different direct ophthalmoscopes, 1 month and 1 year after practical training. Methods In this prospective cohort, medical students (MS) of the same class were divided in small groups for PanOptic (PO) or conventional (CO) direct ophthalmoscope training. The intervention group encompassed MS of the 4th -year (class of 2019), and the control group encompassed MS of year behind (class of 2020). A questionnaire to measure self-confidence in fundoscopy technique assessing optic nerve, cup-to-disc ratio and macula was translated and validated to Portuguese, and applied 1-month and 1-year after practical training. Results One-hundred and sixty-seven MS were enrolled (35 PO group, 38 CO group, and 94 control group). PO group had a significantly higher overall self-confidence comparing either control or CO groups, respectively (3.57 ± 0.65 vs. 2.97 ± 1.03 vs. 2.46 ± 0.87, p p p p p = 0.03) and in optic disc margins assessing (3.16 ± 0.85 vs. 2.95 ± 0.78, p = 0.03), but not significant in the evaluation of cup-to-disc ratio (2.78 ± 0.97 vs. 2.68 ± 0.94, p = 0.08), and macula (3.34 ± 0.79 vs. 3.27 ± 0.98, p = 0.07). Conclusions Students were more confident in use PO as an instrument to perform direct ophthalmoscopy immediately after practical training, but confidence level of CO was higher compared to PO one year after practical training. These findings would help medical schools decide which ophthalmoscope to choose to teach fundus examination.

Background: COVID 19, which affects all areas of life, is perhaps one of the most studied subjects in the field of medicine, and the number of global publications is increasing day by day. The nursing profession and practices have also been directly affected by this rapid stream of broadcasts. Objective: The study was planned to examine in detail the studies on 'COVID and nursing' and to guide the studies in the future. Design: In our study, the Web of Science (WOS) database was scanned to search for publications with topics of’ nursing 'or' SARS COV-2' , 'nurse' and 'COVID 19' , 'nursing' and 'COVID 19' and 'nurse' and 'SARS COV-2' were reviewed. Results: A total of 562 publications were included in the study. The country with the highest number of publications was the United States (32%). While 388 (69%) of the publications were cited, it was determined that 174 (31%) of them were not cited at all. The average number of citations of these 562 publications was found to be 3.28. The H index reached by these publications, which were cited 1.843 times in total, was found to be 17. The most cited journal of ours is It was the New England Journal of Medicine (369 citations). Conclusion: As in every field of publication, the pandemic has been effective in the field of nursing, and the number of publications has increased globally. Considering the citation rates of the publications, it was determined that there is a wide field of study in this field.

A limitation of conventional optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) is the limited field of view normally used in data acquisition. As the technology improves, larger fields of view that capture information away from the macular are being explored in order to provide an enhanced ability to detect pathology. However, normative measurements for important OCTA metrics like vessel density and intercapillary distance are not currently well-characterized in the peripheral retina. In this prospective study, we measured vessel density and intercapillary distance of the superficial vascular complex, ganglion cell layer plexus, and deep capillary plexus in montaged macular/temporal scans from 53 (33 men) healthy volunteers. Vessel density and intercapillary distance were also compared across different regions of the retina, including along arcs at separate distance from the fovea. ObjectiveTo determine the accuracy in the identification of infants with treatment-warranted retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) by a trained and experienced ROP neonatal nurse specialist compared with skilled ophthalmologists.MethodsA single-centre, prospective, blinded, agreement study was performed on a cohort of infants undergoing ROP screening. An experienced ROP neonatal nurse specialist obtained retinal images using a wide field digital retinal imaging system (WFDRI) on 127 infants and identified those with treatment-warranted ROP. This interpretation was compared with the interpretation of the same images by skilled ophthalmologists. The accuracy of the ROP nurse specialist’s interpretation was assessed for sensitivity and specificity compared with the gold standard interpretation by the ophthalmologists.ResultsThe ROP nurse specialist performed 345 ROP screens on both eyes of 127 infants. The mean (SD) gestation age (weeks) and birth weight (g) of the infants screened was 26.8 (2.8) and 929 (327), respectively. The nurse specialist correctly identified all 8 infants with treatment-warranted ROP and 118/119 infants without. The sensitivity and specificity (95% CI) of ROP screening episodes were 100% (63% to 100%) and 99.7% (98.4% to 100.0%), respectively.ConclusionA trained and experienced ROP neonatal nurse specialist can correctly identify infants with treatment-warranted ROP using WFDRI. Further work is required to examine the generalisability of this finding and its impact on ROP screening services.

Photothermal imaging is useful for detecting individual nanoparticles and obtaining the absorption spectra. This study presents a wide-field photothermal reflectance spectroscopy technique achieved by incorporating a pump beam, a probe beam, and a charge-coupled device (CCD) camera into a commercial microscopic setup. The presented design does not require precise alignment between the pump and the probe beams and enables the observation of numerous individual nanoparticles during image acquisition. Despite the use of a simple imaging processing method, i.e., a four-bucket method using a CCD camera, sufficient sensitivity for the spectral imaging of a single gold nanorod (20 nm diameter and 84 nm length) is demonstrated. Numerous individual nanoparticles within a wide field of view (240 μm × 180 μm) are detected in an image captures at an imaging measurement speed of 0.02 mm2 min−1. Furthermore, the proposed photothermal reflectance spectroscopy technique can detect the variation in the absorption peak of the measured spectra depending on the aspect ratio of individual nanoparticles within a spectral resolution of 1 nm.

Background and Aims EMR of large (≥2 cm) nonpedunculated colorectal polyps (LNPCPs) is associated with high rates of recurrent/residual adenoma, possibly because of microadenoma left at the margin of resection. Data supporting this mechanism are required. We aimed to determine the incidence of residual microadenoma at the defect margin and base after EMR. Methods We performed a retrospective observational study of patients undergoing EMR of large LNPCPs with the lateral defect margin further resected using the EndoRotor device (Interscope Medical, Inc, Worcester, Mass, USA) after confirming no visible residual adenomatous tissue. Aspects of the defect base were also resected in selected patients. Patients underwent surveillance at 3 to 6 months. Results Resection of the normal defect margin was performed in 41 patients and of aspects of the base in 21 patients. Mean lesion size was 43.0 mm (range, 20-130). Microscopic residual lesion was detected in the margin of apparently normal mucosa in 8 cases (19%). In 7 cases this was an adenoma, and in 1 case a serrated lesion was found at the margin of a resected tubular adenoma. Microscopic residual lesion was detected at the base in 5 of 21 cases. Residual/recurrent adenoma was detected in 2 patients. Neither had residual microadenoma at the lateral margin or base detected after the primary resection. Conclusions Microscopic residual adenoma after wide-field EMR was detected in 19% of cases at the apparently normal defect margin and at the resection base in 5 of 21 cases. This study confirms the presence of residual microadenoma after resection of LNPCPs, providing evidence for the mechanism of recurrence.

Background/aimsThis study aimed to establish a wide-field optical coherence tomography (OCT) deviation map obtained from swept-source OCT (SS-OCT) scans. Moreover, it also aimed to compare the diagnostic ability of this wide-field deviation map with that of the peripapillary and macular deviation maps currently being used for the detection of early glaucoma (EG).MethodsFour hundred eyes, including 200 healthy eyes and 200 eyes with EG were enrolled in this retrospective observational study. Patients underwent a comprehensive ocular examination, including wide-field SS-OCT (DRI-OCT Triton; Topcon, Tokyo, Japan). The individual wide-field scan was converted into a uniform template using the fovea and optic disc centres as fixed landmarks. Subsequently, the wide-field deviation map was obtained via the comparison between individual wide-field data and a normative wide-field database that had been created by combining images of healthy eyes into a uniform template in a previous study. The ability of the new wide-field deviation map to distinguish between EG and healthy eyes was assessed by comparing it with conventional deviation maps based on the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC).ResultsThe wide-field deviation map obtained using the normative wide-field database showed the highest diagnostic ability for the diagnosis of EG (AUC=0.980 and 961 for colour-coded pixels presenting ConclusionThe wide-field SS-OCT deviation map exhibited good performance for distinguishing between eyes with EG and healthy eyes. The visualisation of the wider damaged area on the wide-field deviation map could be useful for the diagnosis of EG in clinical settings.

Non-rotationally averaged 3D structures of fibers can be restored from their rotationally averaged diffraction patterns., X-ray fiber diffraction is potentially a powerful technique to study the structure of fibrous materials, such as DNA and synthetic polymers. However, only rotationally averaged diffraction patterns can be recorded and it is difficult to correctly interpret them without the knowledge of esoteric diffraction theories. Here we demonstrate that, in principle, the non-rotationally averaged 3D structure of a fibrous material can be restored from its fiber diffraction pattern. The method is a simple puzzle-solving process and in ideal cases it does not require any prior knowledge about the structure, such as helical symmetry. We believe that the proposed method has a potential to transform the fiber diffraction to a 3D imaging technique, and will be useful for a wide field of life and materials sciences.

Purpose: To assess the ability of wide field Swept Source OCTA (SS-OCTA) imaging to detect morphological variations in Serpiginous Choroiditis (SC) and Serpiginous Like Choroiditis (SLC) in response to treatment and also analyze these findings quantitatively using Image J software. Methods: Retrospective observational case series of nine eyes with clinical diagnosis of active SC and SLC, who underwent SS-OCTA and fundus autofluorescence (FAF) imaging at baseline and each follow up visit till 6 months. Morphological analysis was done by two independent graders and quantitative analysis to measure the size and intensity of lesion was done using publicly available Image J software at baseline and each follow up visit. Design: Retrospective observational case series. Results: Using SS-OCTA, all the active lesions followed a characteristic healing pattern. Active lesions appear well defined hypo flow void patches and as healing progressed, lesion became more ill-defined and iso-hyper- intense. Significant increase in mean intensity of the lesion could be apparent after 1 and 6 month of treatment. There was reduction in the size of lesions during follow up however this difference was not statistically significant. Conclusion: SS-OCTA could be a useful noninvasive tool to study the treatment response in SC/SLC both morphologically as well as quantitatively. Quantitative parameters need to be designed in further research studies to aid in uniform management and follow up of uveitis cases.

الملخص: تختلف المصطلحات القانونية في اللغات التي تتحدثها أکثر من دولة باختلاف الثقافة والمشارب القانونية وتعدد التفسير القانوني والمذهب الفقهي، مما يعتبر ثراء لهذا المجال الواسع، إلا أن التنوع اللغوي في البلاد التي تتحدث نفس اللغة يؤدي أحيانا إلى مشکلة عند ترجمة النصوص القانونية، خصوصا عند وجود تبادل تجاري واجتماعي بين ثقافة هذه اللغة ولغة أخرى مثيلة، وهو ما ينطبق على الألمانية والعربية باعتبارها لغات رسمية تتعدد مراکزها اللغوية. وتحاول هذه الدراسة التعرف على ظاهرة التعدد اللغوي وتحديد أسباب وجودها في الترجمة القانونية وذکر بعض الأمثلة لذلک من مجالات قانونية متعددة، مع وضع اقتراحات لحل المشکلة، ولفت النظر إليها، ومن ذلک مثلا استخدام المکافئ الوظيفي في الترجمة بين الألمانية والعربية إذا کان المکافئ الدلالي لا يفي بغرض الترجمة بين اللغتين، وکان استخدامه سيؤدي إلى سوء فهم، وبالتالي إشکالات قانونية. Abstract:Legal terminology differs in the languages ​​spoken by more than one country according to the culture, the legal paths and the multiplicity of legal interpretation and jurisprudence, which enrich this wide field. However, the linguistic variation in countries that speak the same language sometimes leads to a problem when we translate legal texts, especially when there is a commercial and social exchange between the culture of this language and another similar language. This applies to German and Arabic as official pluricentric languages. This study attempts to identify the phenomenon of lexical variation (multilingualism), determine the reasons for its existence in legal translation and mention some examples of that from various legal fields. It also attempts to develop proposals (suggestions) to solve the problem and draw attention to it. One example is the use of the functional equivalent in translation between German and Arabic when the semantic equivalent does not meet (serve) the purpose of translation between the two languages, and which, if used, would lead to misunderstanding and thereby legal problems.

JPCam is a 1.2 Gpixel camera deployed on the 2.6m, large field-of-vie Javalambre Survey Telescope (JST250) at the Observatorio Astrofisico de Javalambre. JPCam has been conceived to perform J-PAS, a photometric survey of several thousand square degrees of the northern sky in 56 optical bands, 54 of them narrow-band filters (145 angstrom FWHM), contiguous and equi-spaced between 370 and 920nm, producing a low resolution photo-spectrum of every pixel of the observed sky, hence promising crucial breakthroughs in Cosmology and galaxy formation and evolution. JPCam has been designed to maximize field-of-view and wavelength coverage while guaranteeing a high image quality over the entire focal plane. To this aim, JPCam is equipped with a mosaic of 14 9.2k x 9.2k, 10 mu m pixel, low noise detectors from Teledyne-E2V, providing a FoV of 4.1 square degrees with a plate scale of 0.2267''/pix. In full frame mode, camera electronics allows read times of 10.9s at 633kHz read frequency (16.4s at 400kHz) with a readout noise of 5.5e(-) (4.3e(-)). Its filter unit admits 5 filter trays, each mounting 14 filters corresponding to the 14 CCDs of the mosaic and allowing all the J-PAS filters to be permanently installed. To fully optimize image quality, position of JST250 secondary mirror and JPCam focal plane are maintained optically aligned by means of two hexapod systems. To perform this task, JPCam includes 12 auxiliary detectors, 4 for autoguiding and 8 for image quality control through wavefront sensing., Based on observations made with the JST250 telescope and JPCam at the Observatorio Astrofisico de Javalambre (OAJ), in Teruel, owned, managed, and operated by the Centro de Estudios de Fisica del Cosmos de Aragon (CEFCA). O objetivo do artigo, baseado nos Estudos Culturais a partir de uma vertentepós-moderna e pós-estruturalista, é analisar a construção da credibilidade por meio daspedagogias da moda que operam no programa Esquadrão da Moda. A moda é um campoamplo de significados e suas pedagogias funcionam de maneira a moldar corpos e construiridentidades, auxiliando no posicionamento dos sujeitos na sociedade e na representaçãode características específicas que eles precisam ter. Evidencia-se que o reality showEsquadrão da Moda, voltado para uma audiência feminina, produz uma ideia de credibilidadea partir de peças oriundas do guarda-roupa masculino, bem como altera o corpoe, por vezes, a conduta das participantes, enquadrando-as em uma série de estereótipossociais.
