The progress made towards forming thin organic layers on superconductors and how these layers effect the transition temperature is discussed. The work was primarily directed towards 1) synthesis of the organics, 2) deposition of organics, and 3) setting up to make transition temperature measurements. The greatest effort was placed on synthesis, and most of the synthesis procedures are now perfected.

Numerical calculation of the critical current through a Josephson junction interferometer, taking into consideration the effect of applied and self-induced magnetic fields on the junctions and in the interference loop. The periodicity of the interference pattern is shown to be less than the flux quantum. Quantitative results are given which illustrate the degree of deviation in periodicity from the flux quantum.

An analysis shows that a three-Josephson-junction asymmetric-feed quantum interferometer has increased magnetic field sensitivity and amplitude deviation over those of a two-junction interferometer. The critical current at zero applied field is lower than the critical current at zero flux in the interference loop.

The adsorption of CO on the nickel surface has been calculated using a modified extended Hueckel technique for a number of different orientations of the CO with respect to the nickel surface. The calculations show that double site adsorption with the CO molecule normal to the surface and the carbon atom closest to the metal gives the most stable configuration (2.57 eV). The single site absorbs with an energy of 2.39 eV. However, other configurations also give fairly large bonding energies. The CO normal to the surface with oxygen closest to the metal gives a heat of adsorption of 0.37 eV. Two-center adsorption with the CO axis parallel to the surface and the molecule symmetrically placed between the nearest neighbors gives a chemisorption energy of 1.34 eV. These values compare with an experimental value of 1.98 eV.
