Abstract

Crime investigators often apply fine powders for fingerprint detection and analysis. Such powders adhere to the print's residue and mark the ridge pattern that is defined by sweat contours. Aluminum flakes are often used for detection on smooth non-porous surfaces. A new technique has been developed that makes use of a magna brush to apply magnetic powders. With this technique, the non-magnetic flake sticks to the residue and shows the ridge pattern. The magnetic flake method minimizes fingerprint obliteration.
