Poważny problem sterowania palnikami pojawia się w nowoczesnych, kompaktowych. wysokotemperaturowych palnikach regeneracyjnych. Trudności w sterowaniu takimi systemami związane są z dużą ilością zainstalowanych palników jak również z szybkimi, periodycznymi zmianami pola temperaturowego, które zależy między innymi od parametru zwanego czasem rewersji. Znajomość statycznych i dynamicznych charakterystyk regeneratora ułatwia programowanie automatycznego sterowania i regulacji procesów, jak również jest bardzo pomocna podczas projektowania konstrukcji nowego wypełnienia regeneratora pod kątem poprawy intensyfikacji transportu ciepła i sprawności pieca. Na podstawie badań zaprezentowano wybrane przykłady charakterystyki dynamicznej i statycznej regeneratora. Poruszono problem pomiaru szybkozmiennego pola temperatury i doboru czujników pomiarowych. Zaprezentowano również charakterystykę rozruchową regeneratora i stanu pseudo-ustalonego. Finalnie przedstawiono wykorzystanie charakterystyk regeneratora w celu określenia jego jakości i ekonomicznych korzyści jego zastosowania.

Background: Evidence is accumulating that growth hormone (GH) protects against the development of steatosis and progression of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). GH may control steatosis indirectly by altering systemic insulin sensitivity and substrate delivery to the liver and/or by the direct actions of GH on hepatocyte function., Approach: To better define the hepatocyte-specific role of GH receptor (GHR) signaling on regulating steatosis, we used a mouse model with adult-onset, hepatocyte-specific GHR knockdown (aHepGHRkd). To prevent the reduction in circulating insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF1) and the subsequent increase in GH observed after aHepGHRkd, subsets of aHepGHRkd mice were treated with adeno-associated viral vectors (AAV) driving hepatocyte-specific expression of IGF1 or a constitutively active form of STAT5b (STAT5b CA ). The impact of hepatocyte-specific modulation of GHR, IGF1 and STAT5b on carbohydrate and lipid metabolism was studied across multiple nutritional states and in the context of hyperinsulinemic:euglycemic clamps., Results: Chow-fed male aHepGHRkd mice developed steatosis associated with an increase in hepatic glucokinase (GCK) and ketohexokinase (KHK) expression and de novo lipogenesis (DNL) rate, in the post-absorptive state and in response to refeeding after an overnight fast. The aHepGHRkd-associated increase in hepatic KHK, but not GCK and steatosis, was dependent on hepatocyte expression of carbohydrate response element binding protein (ChREBP), in re-fed mice. Interestingly, under clamp conditions, aHepGHRkd also increased the rate of DNL and expression of GCK and KHK, but impaired insulin-mediated suppression of hepatic glucose production, without altering plasma NEFA levels. These effects were normalized with AAV-mediated hepatocyte expression of IGF1 or STAT5b CA . Comparison of the impact of AAV-mediated hepatocyte IGF1 versus STAT5b CA in aHepGHRkd mice across multiple nutritional states, indicated the restorative actions of IGF1 are indirect, by improving systemic insulin sensitivity, independent of changes in the liver transcriptome. In contrast, the actions of STAT5b are due to the combined effects of raising IGF1 and direct alterations in the hepatocyte gene program that may involve suppression of BCL6 and FOXO1 activity. However, the direct and IGF1-dependent actions of STAT5b cannot fully account for enhanced GCK activity and lipogenic gene expression observed after aHepGHRkd, suggesting other GHR-mediated signals are involved., Conclusion: These studies demonstrate hepatocyte GHR-signaling controls hepatic glycolysis, DNL, steatosis and hepatic insulin sensitivity indirectly (via IGF1) and directly (via STAT5b). The relative contribution of these indirect and direct actions of GH on hepatocytes is modified by insulin and nutrient availability. Background: Japanese encephalitis (JE) virus (JEV) is a mosquito-borne flavivirus found across Asia that is closely related to West Nile virus. There is no known antiviral treatment for any flavivirus. Results from in vitro studies and animal models suggest intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) containing virus-specific neutralizing antibody may be effective in improving outcome in viral encephalitis. IVIG's anti-inflammatory properties may also be beneficial., Methodology/principal Findings: We performed a pilot feasibility randomized double-blind placebo-controlled trial of IVIG containing anti-JEV neutralizing antibody (ImmunoRel, 400mg/kg/day for 5 days) in children with suspected JE at two sites in Nepal; we also examined the effect on serum neutralizing antibody titre and cytokine profiles. 22 children were recruited, 13 of whom had confirmed JE; 11 received IVIG and 11 placebo, with no protocol violations. One child (IVIG group) died during treatment and two (placebo) subsequently following hospital discharge. Overall, there was no difference in outcome between treatment groups at discharge or follow up. Passive transfer of anti-JEV antibody was seen in JEV negative children. JEV positive children treated with IVIG had JEV-specific neutralizing antibody titres approximately 16 times higher than those treated with placebo (p=0.2), which was more than could be explained by passive transfer alone. IL-4 and IL-6 were higher in the IVIG group., Conclusions/significance: A trial of IVIG for JE in Nepal is feasible. IVIG may augment the development of neutralizing antibodies in JEV positive patients. Objectives: The analysis of vaginal infections in pregnant women admitted to the Department of Perinatology and Gynaecology in Zabrze, from January 2001 to September 2003., Materials and Methods: They were screened for BV, candidiasis and trichomoniasis. 450 pregnant women (the age of pregnancy 25 +/- 9 weeks gestation) were examined for the presence of these microorganisms in the vagina. Diagnosis was based on symptoms, pH measurement and microscopic examination of the vaginal discharge., Conclusions: The most common vaginal infection was candidiasis--188 (42%), 86 (19 %) women had BV, 17 (4%) Trichomonas vaginalis and 159 (35%) patients had normal vaginal flora.

The main tests of this writing was defining pregnant vagina ecosystem at hospitalized Clinic patients between 5th and 37th pregnant week. Patients was divided on two group: I-st with miscarriage danger, II-nd with premature delivery danger. Bacterial Vaginosis was recognized based into consideration Amsela criterion at 13.4% of examined patients, BV with mycosis coexisted at 3.8%, mycosis infection at 42.2% and trichomoniasis at 4.6% pregnant women. Influence occurred infection of Bacterial Vaginosis on premature delivery coming was also examined. Patients attended towards BV during the pregnant time, which gave preterm birth--21 (47.7%) compared with patients proper vagina ecosystem which also gave preterm labour premature--49 (36.6%). No radical, statistic comparison between those two groups was noticed.

Electric arc furnace dust (EAFD) is a major issue for processing technologies: Several million tons per year are generated, it contains both valuable and hazardous metals and yet no available treatment process has proven to be superior to all others. Processes currently applied or being developed are either of hydro- or pyrometallurgical type, which are very costly. In the paper testing of some physical separation methods of electric arc furnace dust from Polish steel industry were investigated. SEM, EDX analyses as well as grain size observations of dust particles were additionally performed. All investigations confirmed a possibility of effective magnetic and mechanical separation of EAFD particles.

The aim of this study was comparison of urinary iodine excretion among parturients and their newborns with iodine supplementation (study group) and parturiens and their newborns without this supplementation (control group). Concentration of iodine jons in urine < 10 micrograms/100 ml was 7.7% in study group and 35.7% in control group. Mothers who received iodine had newborns with low concentration of iodine jons in 15.4% and 57.2% in control group. There is inadequate iodine supply among silesian pregnant women and in their neonates so additional maternal iodine supplementation is necessary.
