This research aims to investigate the dynamics of gender roles by focusing on the standpoint of women users of the feminist dating app Bumble. This app has emerged in Indonesia as one of the most popular platforms to meet potential partners, and it has provided a unique setting to examine how traditional and evolving gender roles manifest in online dating. By first analyzing women users' behaviors, preferences, and interactions, this study sheds light on how gender roles and cultural norms influence the dating experience in the digital realm. Qualitative interviews were conducted with ten dating app users to gain deeper insights into their experiences, and the results were analyzed using the phenomenology method. This qualitative component explores the subjective perceptions, expectations, and challenges associated with gender roles in the dating app context. The study's findings illuminate the evolution of dating dynamics in Indonesia and reveal notable shifts in the dating landscape. Challenges such as 'ghosting' and 'relationshopping' emerge, which underscore the nuanced interplay of agency and hesitancy in the quest for meaningful connections. While Bumble empowers women users, it also highlights the delicate balance between newfound agency, societal expectations, and emotional vulnerabilities. These findings highlight the need for future research to consider diverse gender identities, sexual orientations, demographic ranges, and regional variations. Continual investigation is imperative to monitor the evolving nature of dating apps and their impact on societal norms amidst technological advancements and shifting social contexts. The Aurat (literal meaning, 'woman' in Urdu) March, first organized in Pakistan on International Women's Day in 2018, fanned the fire of feminist struggle in Pakistan. Since its inception, Pakistan's patriarchy has tried to supress rising feminist voices. Last year (2020), the effort to supress these voices reached an exceptional level. Feminists faced a storm of opposition in the form of counter-marches and counter-narratives which were motivated mainly by the patriarchal agency of the country. This situation provides the basis for a critical examination of the deeply rooted patriarchal mind set, with reference to the prevailing gender politics of Pakistan. However, this paper studies this recent development of Pakistani feminism by contextualizing it within Greenblatt's constructs of power, subversion, and containment, with particular reference to Bina Shah's novel Before She Sleeps. By contextualizing the selected novel within the recent feminist development, this paper unmasks the way patriarchy responds to it and tries to contain it. This paper relies on the New Historicist approach to examine the feminist voices in the selected novel. For this purpose, the novel has been read in the backdrop of the feminist narrative of The Aurat March as manifested in different slogans of the march. By doing so, the paper highlights the containment strategies that were employed by the patriarchal agency in Pakistan as well as its manifestation in the contemporary Pakistani Anglophone literature. However, the study finds that the patriarchal agency in Pakistan employs various containment strategies--in the form of narratives of honour and domesticity--to contain the subversion it faces in the form of The Aurat March, and Shah's novel textualizes the situation with utmost clarity. And instead of surrendering to the normative patriarchal structure, it offers the possibility of negotiation and change. Patriarchy is one of the crippling limitations that women face in contemporary societies despite the effects of modernism. Patriarchy is a system that thrives on the domination of women and promotes the superiority of men. The system places so many limitations on women to the extent that the subversion of these limitations is considered a violation of social norms and values. This paper discovers that patriarchal limitations have confined unassertive women to be at the whims and caprices of men and their domination. Using deconstructive critical theory, this paper deconstructs Chinweizu's Anatomy of Female Power which claims that women wield power over men through motherpower, bridepower, and wifepower. This paper concludes that the confinement of female power to the domestic domain is one of the patriarchal strategies to confine and limit some African women to the private space, while the public space is reserved for some men, thereby perpetuating the inferiorization of some women. Protein-energy malnutrition is common among children of under five years of age in sub-Saharan Africa. This is mainly attributed to poor complementary foods and feeding practices, which are often cereal-based and characterized by low nutrient density. Soybean is commonly used to enrich complementary foods, nonetheless, its prospects for use as a rich source of protein and minerals is limited by its low protein digestibility and bioavailability of minerals, costly production and contribution towards environmental degradation. Crickets provide cheap and sustainable source of protein and other nutrients, and holds the potential for substituting soybean in complementary porridge formula. To evaluate acceptability of complementary porridge enriched with crickets, Famila complementary porridge flour, a composite of maize, wheat and defatted soybean was enriched with cricket flour by substituting soybean with cricket flour at 0%, 25%, 50% and 75%. Four porridges were prepared from the flours and coded as CP, CPB1, CPB2 and CPB3, respectively. A total of 40 semi-trained women evaluated the porridges on colour, taste, aroma, texture, mouth-feel and overall acceptability on a 9 -point hedonic scale. The overall acceptability of the porridges were as follows; CP (8.5 [+ or -] 0.72), CPB1 (7.08 [+ or -] 0.94), CPB2 (5.75 [+ or -] 1.53) and CPB3 (3.60 [+ or -] 1.95). Control porridge (CP) was highly rated in all sensory attributes while CPB3 was rated the lowest in all the attributes. Unlike CP, the overall acceptability of CP1, CPB2 and CPB 3 improved with experience in insect consumption, age and level of education. The ratings for colour, aroma and taste of cricket-based porridges were higher among women aged 30 years and above, and those with post-primary education. The most accepted cricket-based porridges were CPB1 and CPB2. Enrichment of Famila complementary porridge with cricket flour affected its sensory attributes which were perceived differently by the women. This informs the need for both low and high substitution levels to cater for their diverse preferences. Bridewealth in Lifou cannot be discussed on its own; rather it should be considered within the plurality of ceremonial acts which are needed to legitimize a marriage as customary. What do these transactions mean? Where does women's agency lie? Through a longitudinal analysis of ethnographic materials from my fieldwork in Lifou, Loyalty Islands, I consider how Kanak women are engaged in and perceive these ceremonial and cultural processes through a declared women's perspective that highlights their ability to make autonomous choices in an open ended historical context. I argue that it is a case of 'positive agency'. I emphasize that local categories (june hmala and wenehleng) which define specific moments in this process can be subsumed under the anthropological term 'bridewealth'. Further, I examine the meaning of money in bridewealth and the fact that the monetary contribution keeps increasing, raising local concerns about the need to regulate the amount circulating in marriage exchanges and its dispersion. Furthermore in Lifou there is no indication that the assembling of the bridewealth by the grooms implies a commoditization and (later) exploitation of women. Bridewealth is recognized as vital in the reproduction and reconfiguration of Pacific environments and women play an integral role in this process. In contemporary Papua New Guinea (PNG), bridewealth is reconfigured by kin to acknowledge the considered actions of women as they enter into relationships with men. This paper will explore how women's choices impact and influence their experience of these exchanges and determine the role of women and their kin as they undertake these practices. Here I aim to understand how the social relatedness that frames bridewealth exchanges enables the practices of bridewealth to be used as a tool for recognition of women's choices, autonomy and personhood. Although women enter into relationships without initial kin approval, bridewealth practices converge ultimately with a women's autonomous choice of husband. Wardlow suggests (2006:86) 'bridewealth confers value and dignity on female gender', and going beyond her observation, I show that bridewealth has been useful in achieving this in regard to managing and supporting social, kin and affinal relationships. This article will explore two cases, to identify what each tells us about women's ability to act in ways that are beneficial to them and important to kin. Women's modesty norms are often perceived as governing women's bodies and as patriarchal oppression. This study challenges these perspectives, offering a deeper, multi-dimensional picture showing that the reality of the women's life is much more complicated. The article chose to discuss aspects of modesty among women of one of the most extreme Jewish ultra-Orthodox groups, and in particular, to investigate how they experience an extremely demanding requirement--shaving off the hair on their head upon marriage and covering their head with a black kerchief. The findings show that there are a variety of voices among the women, ranging from the view that these practices are desirable, through the view that they empower the women, to the view that they damage one's attractiveness and are quite painful. Ageing 'successfully' in western society has often been associated with material issues relating to declining health, social care and welfare. Indeed, it has been suggested that these topics have dominated the study of ageing leading to overly pessimistic accounts of later life (Phillipson, 1998). It is also the case that the concepts used to measure agency and empowerment, such as autonomy and in/dependence, are often uncritically understood and applied from a Western (British/American) standpoint. Here success is associated with individual potential, or the ability to adapt to the 'challenges' of growing older. Ultimately, this means that culturally diverse interpretations and experiences of what constitutes agency and empowerment, that may challenge such an account, are rendered invisible. In response, this paper examines and reflects upon the meanings that older women from different ethnic backgrounds give to agency and empowerment in later life. The empirical accounts discussed in the paper suggest that the meanings attached to autonomy, independence and agency and empowerment are contextually based.

The author tested for the 3 possible pathways (i.e., direct, moderator, and mediator effects) in which locus of control can influence the relationship between work-family conflict and well-being. The author predicted that work-family conflict would be negatively correlated with well-being. In a sample of 310 Malaysian employed women with families, work-family conflict was a significant predictor of both job satisfaction and distress--negatively related to job satisfaction and positively related to symptoms of distress. More important, the results provided support for the effects of all 3 pathways of control on the relationship between work-family conflict and well-being, depending on the outcome measure: For job satisfaction, locus of control had direct effects, acted as a partial mediator, and played a significant moderating role. In contrast, only the direct effect of locus of control predicted distress. The author discusses those findings with reference to the literature on work-family conflict, locus of c ontrol, and the issue of stress-distress specificity.
