This study proposes an unbalanced current compensation method based on a four-leg inverter using an artificial neural network (ANN) under unbalanced load conditions. Distribution systems exhibit rapid load variations, and conventional filter-based control methods suffer from the drawback of requiring an extended time period to reach a steady state. To address this problem, an ANN is applied to calculate the unbalanced current reference and enhance dynamic performance. Additionally, because of the periodic incorrect output inherent in the ANN, applying it to a proportional–integral controller would result in an error being directly reflected in the current reference. In the aforementioned problem, an ANN is applied to the dq0 coordinate system current controller to compensate for the periodic incorrect output in the current reference calculation. To reduce the conducted common-mode (CM) electromagnetic interference (EMI) and current total harmonic distortion (THD) in permanent magnet synchronous motor drive systems, this article proposes a finite control set–model predictive control (FCS–MPC) method for an H8 inverter considering the dead-time (DT) effect. In a real system, the DT causes unexpected peak common-mode voltages (CMVs) and distortion of the inverter output voltage, which deteriorates both the CM EMI and current THD. The conventional double active voltage vector (VV) based MPC methods with an H6 inverter may not be a good solution because of the numerous CMV variations and the limit of the VV transitions. In contrast, the proposed FCS–MPC method allows all VV transitions possible without the peak CMVs by instantly operating the series-connected switch of the H8 inverter based on the previous VV, predicted current sector, and next optimal VV. Furthermore, the nonlinearity of the inverter output voltage due to the DT is compensated in a discrete-time model used for the current prediction, considering the calculation delay of the digital controller. Consequently, the current THD as well as the CM EMI can be improved. The simulation and experimental results are presented to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In elevator drive systems, the gains of a conventional proportional-integral (PI) speed controller cannot usually be set large enough because of its mechanical resonance. Consequently, the speed control performance deteriorates. In our work described in this paper, a fuzzy logic controller (FLC) was adopted for use in elevator drive systems in order to improve the speed control performance. The proposed FLC was compared with a conventional PI controller with respect to speed dynamic responses and load torque. Simulation and experimental results demonstrated that the proposed FLC was superior over the conventional PI. This FLC can be a good solution for high-performance elevator drive systems. In this paper, a new active clamping current-fed half-bridge converter is proposed, which is suitable for fuel cell power generation systems. The proposed converter is superior to conventional dc-dc converters in terms of efficiency and component utilization. The overall efficiency is estimated to be 94% at full load. This paper proposes a new three-phase harmonic-free rectification scheme based on a zero-sequence injection technique. The proposed scheme incorporates two half-bridge inverters and two single-phase transformers to actively and individually shape the positive and negative dc rail currents of the rectifier. The shaped zero-sequence harmonic currents are then circulated through the ac side of the rectifier via a zigzag transformer, resulting in pure sinusoidal input currents in the three-phase diode rectifier. A design example along with component ratings calculation are detailed. Experimental results on a 1.5-kVA prototype are provided to validate the proposed technique.
