This study presents an innovative approach to sustainable timber construction by integrating traditional woodworking techniques with advanced robotic technology. The research focuses on three key objectives: preserving traditional craftsmanship, enhancing material conservation, and improving production efficiency. A meta-model-based framework is developed to capture the woodcrafts of mortise and tenon joints, which are prevalent in traditional Chinese wooden architecture. The study employs parametric design and robotic arm technology to digitize and automate the production process, resulting in significant improvements in material utilization and processing efficiency. Specifically, this study utilizes genetic algorithm strategies to resolve the problem of complex mortise and tenon craftsmanship optimization for robotic arms. Compared to conventional CNC machining, the proposed method demonstrates superior performance in path optimization, reduced material waste, and faster production times. The research contributes to the field of sustainable architecture by offering a novel solution that balances the preservation of cultural heritage with modern construction demands. This approach not only ensures the continuity of traditional woodworking skills but also addresses contemporary challenges in sustainable building practices, paving the way for more environmentally friendly and efficient timber construction methods. Bu makale, 19. yüzyılın ilk yarısında Aydın eyaletinin Alaşehir kazasında yaşamış konar-göçer bir Kızılbaş-Alevî Tahtacı aşiretine odaklanmaktadır. Tetkik öznesine mikro-tarihsel bir perspektifle yaklaşan çalışmada, söz konusu Tahtacı aşiretinin sosyo-ekonomik yapısının açığa çıkarılması amacıyla 2973 numaralı Müslim-aşiret nüfus defteri kullanılmış; ayrıca çağdaş seyahat notlarından, Osmanlı Arşivi’nin çeşitli fonlarındaki farklı resmî belgeler ile temettuât defterlerinden faydalanılmıştır. Bu doğrultuda, bölgedeki Tahtacı aşiretinin demografisi, fiziksel/ruhsal durumu, onomastik niteliği, iskân örüntüsü ve iktisadî hayatı betimlenmiştir. Araştırma, üç ana bölümden müteşekkildir. İlk bölümde, 20. yüzyılın ilk evresinde Tahtacı toplulukların Alaşehir’de yaşadığı üç köy (Tahtacı, Tahtacı Bektaşlar, Tahtacı Alandız) tespit edilmiş, bu iskân merkezlerinin 19. yüzyılın ilk yarısındaki Kızılçukur-Karacaali Tahtacıları ile bağlantıları sorgulanmıştır. İkinci bölümde, Kızılçukur ile Karacaali köyleri periferisindeki Tahtacı aşiretinin iki ayrı topluluğu; demografik ve sosyo-ekonomik kıstaslarca değerlendirilmiştir. Üçüncü bölümde, bu Tahtacı aşiretinin iki farklı yerdeki uzantılarının aralarındaki bağ tasvir edilmiş, konar-göçer doğaları mukayeseli bir pencereden yorumlanmıştır. Sonuç bölümünde, 2973 numaralı Müslim-aşiret nüfus defterinin Kızılçukur-Karacaali Tahtacıları için aktardığı ham veriler, sosyo-demografik ve ekonomik etmenleri önceleyerek bir bütün halinde serimlenmiştir. Netice itibarıyla, 19. yüzyılın ilk elli yıllık diliminde yarı-yerleşik bir kimlikle var olan, 20. yüzyılın ilk çeyreğinde de çoğunluğu köylere yerleşen Alaşehir Tahtacıları; Osmanlı Kızılbaş-Alevîlik literatürü bağlamında ilk kez bilimsel bir çalışmaya konu edilmiş, mikro-tarihsel “aşağıdan” tarihyazım metodunun yerel bir örneği oluşturulmuştur.

We present a stepwise multidisciplinary approach combining woodworking expertise, dendrochronology, DNA genotyping and radiocarbon dating to determine when, where and how historical wooden objects were made. The effective implementation of this approach is demonstrated with a set of wooden stocks from the Rijksmuseum collections in Amsterdam (the Netherlands). In 2019, preceding an exhibition about slavery, stocks made of oak (Quercus sp.) were donated to the Rijksmuseum. The history of the object was unknown, and a stepwise approach was devised to determine the date and potential place of its manufacture, and whether they were made in the context of Dutch colonial slavery. Pencil marks and tool traces found on the surface of the wood are characteristic of traditional woodworking techniques and indicated that the stocks were processed after 1800 C.E., from fresh wood, shortly after the felling of the tree, and in one go. The tree-ring analysis revealed that the beams originate from the same tree, and that the tree grew in a dense forest. However, it failed to return an exact date for the wood and, consequently, also to determine its provenance. Therefore, we decided to employ DNA-genotyping and radiocarbon dating. The retrieval of DNA was successful, and the results placed the provenance of the wood in an area covering a broad latitudinal transect in central Europe. Radiocarbon wiggle matching, modelled with sapwood statistics for central Europe, revealed that the tree was likely cut between 1791 and 1824 C.E. These results combined suggest that the stocks were produced in the first quarter of the 19th century, using local wood, at a small rural town somewhere in Italy, the Pyrenees, eastern France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany or even further north (Denmark, Sweden). While their association with slavery in colonised territories seems unlikely, their production in the context of the Dutch colonial system cannot be ruled out. Therefore, they are valuable historical objects worth being curated and exhibited at a national museum. The stepwise approach here presented can be applied to other large objects at museum collections. We encourage curators, conservators and restorers to consider its implementation to maximise knowledge acquisition and appreciation of wooden cultural heritage. Objective: The woodcraft business sector in Soloraya has promising opportunities, but currently, the number of businesses is decreasing due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This research aims to analyze the effect of market orientation and product innovation on marketing performance mediated by competitive strategy. Research Design & Methods: This study uses a quantitative method surveying 120 woodcraft businesses in Soloraya. The sample was obtained using a purposive sampling method with the business's criteria for more than 5 years and was analyzed using the Structural Equation Model (SEM) using PLS to obtain comprehensive results. Findings: The results show that market orientation and product innovation positively and significantly affect competitive strategy and business performance. Competitive strategy can also mediate the effect of market orientation and product innovation on marketing performance. Implications & Recommendations: Market orientation implements a marketing concept that can provide superior value to consumers. The competitive strategy is intended to maintain a level of gain and a sustainable position when facing competition. When increasing the competitive strategy, it needs to analyze the strengths and weaknesses of the business, so when determining the price, form, and quality as a competitive advantage, the competitors cannot be imitated perfectly. Contribution & Value Added: This competitive strategy model provides the enterprise with more significant opportunities to expand market share and rise from adversity due to the Covid-19 pandemic to continue to exist in the industry. In addition, this model can be applied to other areas so that this type of business does not experience a shortage of supplies.

The twenty-first century outdoor recreation industry is a multi-billion dollar economic powerhouse. The retail, transportation, and tourism industries all play large roles in the development and expansion of outdoor recreation in the United States. However, this consumer-driven relationship with the outdoors is not a twenty-first century phenomenon. This paper examines the origins of a current outdoor recreation fashion: the L.L. Bean Boot. Through a material culture analysis of the Boot, as well as a visual and literary analysis of the contemporaneous culture surrounding outdoor recreation, this paper argues that, in the early twentieth century, Bean Boots revealed the complexities of the outdoor recreation industry and the varied approaches to wilderness in the first half of the twentieth century. In particular, the popularity of the Bean Boot reflects the rise of the sport, a unique outdoor recreationalist who differed from the luxury tourist or the traditional woodsman. Considerable scholarly attention has been given to Charter ’77 as a site of dissent in the former Czechoslovakia. Yet there was a socially embedded site of resistance that was active long before the dissidents. We call this site the Czech woodcraft culture. With its mass popularity and its potent references to Native American anti-colonialism, the woodcraft culture has still barely registered among researchers. In this paper, we offer the first scholarly account of the origins of Czech woodcraft culture, starting in the early twentieth century. We argue that subsequent transformations of the woodcraft culture in the Czech landscape should be understood as popular, complex, and often ambiguous practices of resistance, from the internationalist inversions of a national bourgeois order in the inter-war period, to nostalgic and paradoxically nationalist subterfuges of the Soviet-imposed regime after 1968. We trace how, as a response to the state socialist regime’s cultural and political pressures, the activities of Czech woodcraft culture were “layered with memories and experiences rooted in the pre-communist period” (Bren, 2002: 124). The Czech woodcraft culture as a whole provided its adherents with an autonomous space that enabled new forms of sociality, immersions in the natural world, and a host of long-standing voluntary associative activities that preceded the emergence of localized environmental movements and other sites of dissent around the Czech lands. The article discusses the study on exploring the strange relationship of American woodcraft and Soviet ecology in Czech environmentalism. According to the authors, their study aims to confirm that post-communist states, such as the Czech Republic post 1989, had their own environmental traditions influencing the modern environmentalist thinking. The authors stressed that Czech post-war environmental politics had blended with Soviet ecology reflecting covert references to the mythology of American West.
