The core-collapse supernova remnant (SNR) Cassiopeia A (Cas A) is one of the brightest galactic radio sources with an angular radius of $\sim$ 2.5 $\arcmin$. Although no extension of this source has been detected in the $\gamma$-ray band, using more than 1000 days of LHAASO data above $\sim 0.8$ TeV, we find that its spectrum is significantly softer than those obtained with Imaging Air Cherenkov Telescopes (IACTs) and its flux near $\sim 1$ TeV is about two times higher. In combination with analyses of more than 16 years of \textit{Fermi}-LAT data covering $0.1 \, \mathrm{GeV} - 1 \, \mathrm{TeV}$, we find that the spectrum above 30 GeV deviates significantly from a single power-law, and is best described by a smoothly broken power-law with a spectral index of $1.90 \pm 0.15_\mathrm{stat}$ ($3.41 \pm 0.19_\mathrm{stat}$) below (above) a break energy of $0.63 \pm 0.21_\mathrm{stat} \, \mathrm{TeV}$. Given differences in the angular resolution of LHAASO-WCDA and IACTs, TeV $\gamma$-ray emission detected with LHAASO may have a significant contribution from regions surrounding the SNR illuminated by particles accelerated earlier, which, however, are treated as background by IACTs. Detailed modelling can be used to constrain acceleration processes of TeV particles in the early stage of SNR evolution.

We report the observations of J=1-0 of HCN, HCO+, H13CO+, and H13CN, HC3N (J=11-10) emission towards 135 massive star-forming clumps, as part of the ATOMS (ALMA Three-millimeter Observations of Massive Star-forming regions) Survey. We present the integrated intensity probability distribution function for these molecular tracers, modeled as a combination of a log-normal distribution and a power-law tail. The molecular line luminosities for the power-law tail segment, Lmol(p), have been calculated. We have investigated the correlation between the bolometric luminosity, Lbol, and the power-law part of the molecular line luminosity, Lmol(p). Our findings suggest that the scaling relationships between Lbol and Lmol(p) for HCN and HCO+ are sublinear, indicating that these molecules might not be the most effective tracers for the dense gas. In contrast, H13CN and HC3N exhibit a nearly linear relationship between Lbol and Lmol(p), indicating that they can well trace gravitationally bound dense gas. The ratios of Lbol-to-Lmol(p), serving as indicators of star formation efficiency within massive star-forming clumps, exhibit a weak anti-correlation with the power-law index in the I-PDF. In addition, the star formation efficiency is also weakly anti-correlated with the exponent U of the corresponding equivalent density distribution. Our results implie that clumps with substantial gas accumulation may still display low star formation efficiencies.

Stellar-mass and supermassive black holes abound in the Universe, whereas intermediate-mass black holes (IMBHs) of ~10^2-10^5 solar masses in between are largely missing observationally, with few cases found only. Here we report the real-time discovery of a long-duration X-ray transient, EP240222a, accompanied by an optical flare with prominent H and He emission lines revealed by prompt follow-up observations. Its observed properties evidence an IMBH located unambiguously in the halo of a nearby galaxy and flaring by tidally disrupting a star -- the only confirmed off-nucleus IMBH-tidal disruption event so far. We report the first detection of polarization angle (PA) orthogonal jumps, a phenomenon previously only observed from radio pulsars, from a fast radio burst (FRB) source FRB 20201124A. We find three cases of orthogonal jumps in over two thousand bursts, all resembling those observed in pulsar single pulses. We propose that the jumps are due to the superposition of two orthogonal emission modes that could only be produced in a highly magnetized plasma, and they are caused by the line of sight sweeping across a rotating magnetosphere. The shortest jump timescale is of the order of one-millisecond, which hints that the emission modes come from regions smaller than the light cylinder of most pulsars or magnetars. This discovery provides convincing evidence that FRB emission originates from the complex magnetosphere of a magnetar, suggesting an FRB emission mechanism that is analogous to radio pulsars despite a huge luminosity difference between two types of objects., Comment: 10 pages, 5 figures, accepted by APJL

The kinetic temperature structure of the massive filament DR21 has been mapped using the IRAM 30 m telescope. This mapping employed the para-H$_2$CO triplet ($J_{\rm K_aK_c}$ = 3$_{03}$--2$_{02}$, 3$_{22}$--2$_{21}$, and 3$_{21}$--2$_{20}$) on a scale of $\sim$0.1 pc. By modeling the averaged line ratios of para-H$_{2}$CO with RADEX under non-LTE assumptions, the kinetic temperature of the dense gas was derived at a density of $n$(H$_{2}$) = 10$^{5}$ cm$^{-3}$. The para-H$_2$CO lines reveal significantly higher temperatures than NH$_3$ (1,1)/(2,2) and FIR wavelengths. The dense clumps appear to correlate with the notable kinetic temperature. Among the four dense cores (N44, N46, N48, and N54), temperature gradients are observed on a scale of $\sim$0.1-0.3 pc. This suggests that the warm dense gas is influenced by internal star formation activity. With the exception of N54, the temperature profiles of these cores were fitted with power-law indices ranging from $-$0.3 to $-$0.5. This indicates that the warm dense gas is heated by radiation emitted from internally embedded protostar(s) and/or clusters. While there is no direct evidence supporting the idea that the dense gas is heated by shocks resulting from a past explosive event in the DR21 region, our measurements toward the DR21W1 region provide compelling evidence that the dense gas is indeed heated by shocks originating from the western DR21 flow. Higher temperatures appear to be associated with turbulence. The physical parameters of the dense gas in the DR21 filament exhibit a remarkable similarity to the results obtained in OMC-1 and N113. This may imply that the physical mechanisms governing the dynamics and thermodynamics of dense gas traced by H$_{2}$CO in diverse star formation regions may be dominated by common underlying principles despite variations in specific environmental conditions. The KM2A is the largest sub-array of the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO). It consists of 5216 electromagnetic particle detectors (EDs) and 1188 muon detectors (MDs). The data recorded by the EDs and MDs are used to reconstruct primary information of cosmic ray and gamma-ray showers. This information is used for physical analysis in gamma-ray astronomy and cosmic ray physics. To ensure the reliability of the LHAASO-KM2A data, a three-level quality control system has been established. It is used to monitor the status of detector units, stability of reconstructed parameters and the performance of the array based on observations of the Crab Nebula and Moon shadow. This paper will introduce the control system and its application on the LHAASO-KM2A data collected from August 2021 to July 2023. During this period, the pointing and angular resolution of the array were stable. From the observations of the Moon shadow and Crab Nebula, the results achieved using the two methods are consistent with each other. According to the observation of the Crab Nebula at energies from 25 TeV to 100 TeV, the time averaged pointing errors are estimated to be $-0.003^{\circ} \pm 0.005^{\circ}$ and $0.001^{\circ} \pm 0.006^{\circ}$ in the R.A. and Dec directions, respectively., Comment: 15 pages, 9 figures

We report measurements of trigonometric parallax and proper motion for two 6.7 GHz methanol and two 22 GHz water masers located in the far portion of the Sagittarius spiral arm as part of the BeSSeL Survey. Distances for these sources are estimated from parallax measurements combined with 3-dimensional kinematic distances. The distances of G033.64$-$00.22, G035.57$-$00.03, G041.15$-$00.20, and G043.89$-$00.78 are $9.9\pm0.5$, $10.2\pm0.6$, $7.6\pm0.5$, and $7.5\pm0.3$ kpc, respectively. Based on these measurements, we suggest that the Sagittarius arm segment beyond about 8 kpc from the Sun in the first Galactic quadrant should be adjusted radially outward relative to previous models. This supports the suggestion of Xu et al. The Super $\tau$-Charm facility (STCF) is an electron-positron collider proposed by the Chinese particle physics community. It is designed to operate in a center-of-mass energy range from 2 to 7 GeV with a peak luminosity of $0.5\times 10^{35}{\rm cm}^{-2}{\rm s}^{-1}$ or higher. The STCF will produce a data sample about a factor of 100 larger than that by the present $\tau$-Charm factory -- the BEPCII, providing a unique platform for exploring the asymmetry of matter-antimatter (charge-parity violation), in-depth studies of the internal structure of hadrons and the nature of non-perturbative strong interactions, as well as searching for exotic hadrons and physics beyond the Standard Model. The STCF project in China is under development with an extensive R\&D program. This document presents the physics opportunities at the STCF, describes conceptual designs of the STCF detector system, and discusses future plans for detector R\&D and physics case studies.

In our work, we analyse $5\times10^{4}$ single pulses from the recycled pulsar PSR J2222$-$0137 in one of its scintillation maxima observed by the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST). PSR J2222$-$0137 is one of the nearest and best studies of binary pulsars and a unique laboratory for testing gravitational theories. We report single pulses' energy distribution and polarization from the pulsar's main-pulse region. The single pulse energy follows the log-normal distribution. We resolve a steep polarization swing, but at the current time resolution ($64\,\mu{\rm s}$), we find no evidence for the orthogonal jump in the main-pulse region, as has been suspected. We find a potential sub-pulse drifting period of $P_{3} \sim 3.5\,P$. We analyse the jitter noise from different integrated numbers of pulses and find that its $\sigma_{j}$ is $270\pm{9}\,{\rm ns}$ for 1-hr integration at 1.25 GHz. By solving the renormalization of the $s$-$d$ interaction from magnetic impurities embeded in conventional superconductors at low concentration, we derive the macroscopic superconducting phase fluctuation and electromagnetic properties within the path-integral approach. It is found that there exist two superconducting phase modes, both exhibiting similar behaviors of the Nambu-Goldstone mode. The existence of two phase modes suggests that in addition to the conventional free Cooper pairs as in the BCS case, there emerges a small part of the localized Cooper pairs around magnetic impurities due to the quantum correlation by the $s$-$d$ interaction, acting as Josephson islands. The emerging impurity Shiba bands inside the superconducting gap then correspond to the excitations of the ground state of the localized Cooper pairs, associated with the breaking of these Cooper pairs. In the diamagnetic response, the state of the free Cooper pairs gives rise to the conventional real contribution in the generated supercurrent, whereas the one of the localized Cooper pairs results in an imaginary contribution, leading to the superconducting Friedel oscillation, i.e., oscillation in the decay of the vector potential in the Meissner effect. As for the optical absorption of a conventional superconductor lying in the anomalous-skin-effect region, it is found that besides the conventional interband transition of Bogoliubov quasiparticles as revealed by Mattis-Bardeen theory, there also exist the interband transition between the impurity Shiba bands as well as all interband transitions between Bogoliubov quasiparticle and impurity Shiba bands. Rotating Radio Transients (RRATs) are neutron stars that emit sporadic radio bursts. We detected 1955 single pulses from RRAT J1913+1330 using the 19-beam receiver of the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Radio Telescope (FAST). These pulses were detected in 19 distinct clusters, with 49.4% of them occurring with a waiting time of one rotation period. The energy distribution of these individual pulses exhibited a wide range, spanning three orders of magnitude, reminiscent of repeating fast radio bursts (FRBs). Furthermore, we observed abrupt variations in pulse profile, width, peak flux, and fluence between adjacent sequential pulses. These findings suggest that this RRAT could be interpreted as a pulsar with extreme pulse-to-pulse modulation. The presence of sequential pulse trains during active phases, along with significant pulse variations in profile, fluence, flux, and width, should be intrinsic to a subset of RRATs. Our results indicate that J1913+1330 represents a peculiar source that shares certain properties with populations of nulling pulsars, giant pulses, and FRBs from different perspectives. The dramatic pulse-to-pulse variation observed in J1913+1330 could be attributed to unstable pair creation above the polar cap region and the variation of the site where streaming pairs emit coherently. Both macroscopic Ginzburg-Landau Lagrangian and microscopic gauge-invariant kinetic equation suggest a finite Higgs-mode generation in the second-order optical response of superconductors at clean limit, whereas the previous derivations through the path-integral approach and Eilenberger equation within the Matsubara formalism failed to give such generation. The crucial treatment leading to this controversy lies at an artificial scheme that whether the external optical frequency is taken as continuous variable or bosonic Matsubara frequency to handle the gap dynamics within the Matsubara formalism. To resolve this issue, we derive the effective action of the superconducting gap near $T_c$ in the presence of the vector potential through the path-integral approach, to fill the long missing blank of the microscopic derivation of the Ginzburg-Landau Lagrangian in superconductors. It is shown that only by taking optical frequency as continuous variable within the Matsubara formalism, can one achieve the fundamental Ginzburg-Landau Lagrangian, and in particular, the finite Ginzburg-Landau kinetic term leads to a finite Higgs-mode generation at clean limit. To further eliminate the confusion of the Matsubara frequency through a separate framework, we apply the Eilenberger equation within the Keldysh formalism, which is totally irrelevant to the Matsubara space. By calculating the gap dynamics in the second-order response, it is analytically proved that the involved optical frequency is a continuous variable rather than bosonic Matsubara frequency, causing a finite Higgs-mode generation at clean limit., Comment: 14 pages

Hydrogen recombination lines (RRLs) are one of the major diagnostics of the physical properties of H{\sc ii} regions. We use RRL H40$\alpha$, He40$\alpha$ and 3 mm continuum emission to investigate the properties of a large sample of resolved UC H{\sc ii} regions identified in the ATOMS survey. In total, we identify 94 UC H{\sc ii} regions from H40$\alpha$ emission. The basic parameters for these UC H{\sc ii} regions such as electron density, emission measure, electron temperature, ionic abundance ratio (n$_{\rm He^+}$/n$_{\rm H^+}$), and line width are derived. The median electron density and the median n$_{\rm He^+}$/n$_{\rm H^+}$ ratio of these UC H{\sc ii} regions derived from RRLs are $\sim$9000 cm$^{-3}$ and 0.11, respectively. Within UC H{\sc ii} regions, the n$_{\rm He^+}$/n$_{\rm H^+}$ ratios derived from the intensity ratio of the He40$\alpha$ and H40$\alpha$ lines seems to be higher in the boundary region than in the center. The H40$\alpha$ line width is mainly broadened by thermal motion and microturbulence. The electron temperature of these UC H{\sc ii} regions has a median value of $\sim$6700 K, and its dependence on galactocentric distance is weak.

High precision spectroscopy of the low-lying dielectronic resonances in fluorine-like nickel ions were determined by employing the merged electron-ion beam at the heavy-ion storage ring CSRm. The measured dielectronic resonances are identified by comparing with the most recent relativistic calculation utilizing the FAC code. The first resonance at about 86 meV due to the dielectronic recombination via (2s2p6[2S1/2]6s)J=1 intermediate state was recognized. The experimental determination of the resonance position at 86 meV reaches an uncertainty of 4 meV, which allows precise determination of the 2s22p5[2P3/2] - 2s2p6[2S1/2] transition energy. The Rydberg binding energy of the 6s electron in the (2s2p6[2S1/2]6s)J=1 state is calculated by the multi-configurational Dirac-HartreeFock and stabilization methods. The determined transition energies are 149.056(4)exp(10)theo and 149.032(4)exp(6)theo, respectively. Moreover, the transition energy has also been calculated by fully relativistic and ab initio approaches. Individual theoretical contributions are evaluated by employing the core-Hartree and Kohn-Sham screening potentials, respectively. High-order QED and correlation effects contribute prominently to the total transition energy. The present DR precision spectroscopy study at the CSRm paves the way for future precision measurements of atomic energy levels with heavier highly charged ions., Comment: 12 pages, 8 figures

The diagrammatic formalism and transport equation are conventionally considered as separate but complementary techniques to tackle the impurity scattering effect. To compare with the previous studies from the gauge-invariant kinetic equation approach [F. Yang and M. W. Wu, Phys. Rev. B 98, 094507 (2018); 102, 144508 (2020)], we analytically perform a diagrammatic formulation of the impurity scattering in superconductors, with both transport and collective Higgs mode studied, in order to fill the long missing calculation of the Kubo current-current correlation in superconductors with impurity scattering and resolve the controversy (whether the impurity scattering can lead to the damping of Higgs mode) between gauge-invariant kinetic equation and Eilenberger equation. For transport behavior, through a special unitary transformation that is equivalent to the Wilson-line technique for the diamagnetic response, we derive the Meissner-supercurrent vertex. Then, by formulating the supercurrent-supercurrent correlation with Born and vertex corrections from impurity scattering, we recover the previously revealed microscopic momentum-relaxation rate of superfluid by gauge-invariant kinetic equation. This rate is finite only when the superconducting velocity is larger than a threshold, at which the normal fluid emerges and causes the friction with the superfluid current, similar to the Landau's superfluid theory of liquid helium. This derivation also provides a physical understanding of the relaxation-time approximation in the previous diagrammatic formulation in the literature, which leads to the friction resistance of the Meissner supercurrent. For the collective Higgs mode, we calculate the amplitude-amplitude correlation with Born and vertex corrections from impurity scattering.
