4. Fully Composable and Adequate Verified Compilation with Direct Refinements between Open Modules (Technical Report)

Abstract

Verified compilation of open modules (i.e., modules whose functionality depends on other modules) provides a foundation for end-to-end verification of modular programs ubiquitous in contemporary software. However, despite intensive investigation in this topic for decades, the proposed approaches are still difficult to use in practice as they rely on assumptions about the internal working of compilers which make it difficult for external users to apply the verification results. We propose an approach to verified compositional compilation without such assumptions in the setting of verifying compilation of heterogeneous modules written in first-order languages supporting global memory and pointers. Our approach is based on the memory model of CompCert and a new discovery that a Kripke relation with a notion of memory protection can serve as a uniform and composable semantic interface for the compiler passes. By absorbing the rely-guarantee conditions on memory evolution for all compiler passes into this Kripke Memory Relation and by piggybacking requirements on compiler optimizations onto it, we get compositional correctness theorems for realistic optimizing compilers as refinements that directly relate native semantics of open modules and that are ignorant of intermediate compilation processes. Such direct refinements support all the compositionality and adequacy properties essential for verified compilation of open modules. We have applied this approach to the full compilation chain of CompCert with its Clight source language and demonstrated that our compiler correctness theorem is open to composition and intuitive to use with reduced verification complexity through end-to-end verification of non-trivial heterogeneous modules that may freely invoke each other (e.g., mutually recursively).

5. Causal association between antidiabetic drugs and erectile dysfunction: evidence from Mendelian randomization

Abstract

BackgroundAntidiabetic drugs are widely used in clinical practice as essential drugs for the treatment of diabetes. The effect of hypoglycemic drugs on erectile dysfunction has not been fully proven due to the presence of multiple confounding factors.MethodsTwo-sample Mendelian randomization (TSMR) was used to examine the causal effect of antidiabetic drugs (including metformin, insulin and gliclazide) on erectile dysfunction. We used five robust analytic methods, of which the inverse variance weighting (IVW) method was the primary method, and also assessed factors such as sensitivity, pleiotropy, and heterogeneity. Effect statistics for exposures and outcomes were downloaded from publicly available data sets, including open Genome-Wide Association Studies (GWAS) and the UK Biobank (UKB).ResultsIn some of the hypoglycemic drug use, there was a significant causal relationship between metformin use and erectile dysfunction [Beta: 4.9386; OR:1.396E+02 (95% CI:9.13-2135); p-value: 0.0004), suggesting that metformin increased the risk of erectile dysfunction development. Also, we saw that gliclazide use also increased the risk of erectile dysfunction [Beta: 11.7187; OR:0.0125 (95% CI:12.44-1.21E+09); P value: 0.0125). There was no significant causal relationship between insulin use and erectile dysfunction [Beta: 3.0730; OR:21.6071 (95% CI:0.24-1942.38); p-value: 0.1806).Leave-one-out, MR-Egger, and MR-PRESSO analyses produced consistent results.ConclusionThe use of metformin and gliclazide have the potential to increase the risk of erectile dysfunction. There is no causal relationship between the use of insulin and erectile dysfunction.

ObjectiveTo evaluate the effect of nutritional health knowledge， attitude and practice theory on seafarers’ health education intervention.MethodsA total of 628 seafarers who underwent health check-up in two designated hospitals in Zhoushan in 2019 were selected as subjects. They were divided into two groups by cluster random sampling method. Nutritional health intervention with different methods was conducted for one year， followed by another health check-up in 2020 and 2021. Dietary nutritional status survey was carried out in both groups during physical examination.ResultsAfter intervention， the daily intake of grain， potato， mixed beans， vegetable， fruit， soybean and nut in the intervention group was significantly higher than that in the control group， while the daily intake of edible oil in the intervention group was significantly lower than that in the control group （P

Abstract

Binding of the intracellular adapter proteins talin and its cofactor, kindlin, to the integrin receptors induces integrin activation and clustering. These processes are essential for cell adhesion, migration, and organ development. Although the talin head, the integrin-binding segment in talin, possesses a typical FERM-domain sequence, a truncated form has been crystallized in an unexpected, elongated form. This form, however, lacks a C-terminal fragment and possesses reduced β3-integrin binding. Here, we present a crystal structure of a full-length talin head in complex with the β3-integrin tail. The structure reveals a compact FERM-like conformation and a tightly associated N-P-L-Y motif of β3-integrin. A critical C-terminal poly-lysine motif mediates FERM interdomain contacts and assures the tight association with the β3-integrin cytoplasmic segment. Removal of the poly-lysine motif or disrupting the FERM-folded configuration of the talin head significantly impairs integrin activation and clustering. Therefore, structural characterization of the FERM-folded active talin head provides fundamental understanding of the regulatory mechanism of integrin function.

42. MVB: A Large-Scale Dataset for Baggage Re-Identification and Merged Siamese Networks

Abstract

In this paper, we present a novel dataset named MVB (Multi View Baggage) for baggage ReID task which has some essential differences from person ReID. The features of MVB are three-fold. First, MVB is the first publicly released large-scale dataset that contains 4519 baggage identities and 22660 annotated baggage images as well as its surface material labels. Second, all baggage images are captured by specially-designed multi-view camera system to handle pose variation and occlusion, in order to obtain the 3D information of baggage surface as complete as possible. Third, MVB has remarkable inter-class similarity and intra-class dissimilarity, considering the fact that baggage might have very similar appearance while the data is collected in two real airport environments, where imaging factors varies significantly from each other. Moreover, we proposed a merged Siamese network as baseline model and evaluated its performance. Experiments and case study are conducted on MVB.
