Abstract

Stereo superpixel segmentation aims at grouping the discretizing pixels into perceptual regions through left and right views more collaboratively and efficiently. Existing superpixel segmentation algorithms mostly utilize color and spatial features as input, which may impose strong constraints on spatial information while utilizing the disparity information in terms of stereo image pairs. To alleviate this issue, we propose a stereo superpixel segmentation method with a decoupling mechanism of spatial information in this work. To decouple stereo disparity information and spatial information, the spatial information is temporarily removed before fusing the features of stereo image pairs, and a decoupled stereo fusion module (DSFM) is proposed to handle the stereo features alignment as well as occlusion problems. Moreover, since the spatial information is vital to superpixel segmentation, we further design a dynamic spatiality embedding module (DSEM) to re-add spatial information, and the weights of spatial information will be adaptively adjusted through the dynamic fusion (DF) mechanism in DSEM for achieving a finer segmentation. Comprehensive experimental results demonstrate that our method can achieve the state-of-the-art performance on the KITTI2015 and Cityscapes datasets, and also verify the efficiency when applied in salient object detection on NJU2K dataset. Abstract

Emotions are linked to wide sets of action tendencies, and it can be difficult to predict which specific action tendency will be motivated or indulged in response to individual experiences of emotion. Building on a functional perspective of emotion, we investigate whether anger and shame connect to different behavioral intentions in dignity, face, and honor cultures. Using simple animations that showed perpetrators taking resources from victims, we conducted two studies across eleven countries investigating the extent to which participants expected victims to feel anger and shame, how they thought victims should respond to such violations, and how expectations of emotions were affected by enacted behavior. Across cultures, anger was associated with desires to reclaim resources or alert others to the violation. In face and honor cultures, but not dignity cultures, shame was associated with the desire for aggressive retaliation. However, we found that when victims indulged motivationally-relevant behavior, expected anger and shame were reduced, and satisfaction increased, in similar ways across cultures. Results suggest similarities and differences in expectations of how emotions functionally elicit behavioral responses across cultures.

26. Weather Conditions and Cloud Microphysical Characteristics of an Aircraft Severe Icing Process

Abstract

Based on the aircraft measurements on 28 February 2021, combined with ERA5 reanalysis data and sounding data, the weather background and the characteristics of cloud structure of a severe icing case on the aircraft are analyzed. The severe icing process is induced by the joint influence of high-level trough, low-level shear line, low-level jet and cold front. The ERA5 reanalysis data show that the maximum value area of supercooled water is mainly distributed at the height of 700 hPa to 600 hPa on the warm side of the front area and the ambient temperature is -4 to -12℃, accompanied by an upward movement of -0.2 to -0.8 Pa·s-1. The sounding data show that the cloud system is distributed in multiple layers. There is a deep dry layer between the upper ice crystal cloud and the lower supercooled water cloud. The temperature in the aircraft detection area is -9 to -3℃ and the dew-point spread is 0℃, which are favorable for icing. During the icing process, the air temperature is -8 to -5℃. Aircraft measurements show that there is abundant supercooled water in clouds. The average liquid water content by cloud particles probe is 0.35 g·m-3, and the maximum value is 0.7 g·m-3. The average liquid water content by total water content measurement probes is 0.5 g·m-3, the maximum value is 0.85 g·m-3, and for 11 minutes the liquid water content is larger than 0.45 g·m-3. The average median volume diameter of cloud particles is 20.3 μm, and the number concentration of cloud particles is 149.3 cm-3 on average. The number concentration of cloud particles tends to increase from low level to high level and vice versa for the median volume diameter of cloud particles. Finally, the conditions with different icing intensity that the King-air 350 aircraft may encounte during weather modification work in the cloud are discussed. The calculation shows that the King-air 350 aircraft carries out observation research or weather modification tasks when the liquid water content in the cloud is higher than 0.04 g·m-3, 0.15 g·m-3 and 0.45 g·m-3, it may encounter light, moderate, and severe icing, under certain conditions.

Abstract

In this paper, we propose a simple yet effective solution to a change detection task that detects the difference between two images, which we call "spot the difference". Our approach uses CNN-based object detection by stacking two aligned images as input and considering the differences between the two images as objects to detect. An early-merging architecture is used as the backbone network. Our method is accurate, fast and robust while using very cheap annotation. We verify the proposed method on the task of change detection between the digital design and its photographic image of a book. Compared to verification based methods, our object detection based method outperforms other methods by a large margin and gives extra information of location. We compress the network and achieve 24 times acceleration while keeping the accuracy. Besides, as we synthesize the training data for detection using weakly labeled images, our method does not need expensive bounding box annotation., Comment: Tech Report, 10 pages

Abstract

Aim: To assess the association between Benzodiazepines (BZDs) or Z‐hypnotic use and cardiovascular diseases (CVD) incidence in residents in Beijing, China. Methods: We included 2,415,573 individuals with a prescription record for BZDs or Z‐hypnotics in the Beijing Medical Claim Data for Employees database during 2010–2017, and 8,794,356 non‐users with other prescriptions for the same period. Hazard ratios (HR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were calculated using Cox proportional risk models for 712,850 exposed and 712,850 unexposed participants who were matched 1:1 by propensity score. Results: BZDs or Z‐hypnotics users had a higher risk of CVD than non‐users, with an HR of 1.11 (95% CI: 1.10, 1.13). Compared with non‐users, those who used them for less than 3 months had the lowest risk of CVD, and those for more than 5 years had the highest risk, with HRs of 0.50 (0.48, 0.51) and 1.78 (1.72, 1.83), respectively. The risk of CVD was relatively low in those who used only one of the long‐acting BZDs, short‐acting BZDs, or Z‐hypnotics compared to unexposed individuals. Individuals exposed to all three types of drugs had the highest risk, 2.33 (2.22, 2.44) times that of non‐users. Users below the median dose had a lower risk of CVD compared to non‐users, whereas users exceeding the median dose had an increased risk. Conclusion: BZD or Z‐hypnotic use in general was nominally associated with an elevated risk of CVD. However, for short‐term, single‐type, and low‐to‐moderate‐dose users, not only did this elevated risk disappear, but drug use also demonstrated a protective effect. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
