1. Dr3: Ask Large Language Models Not to Give Off-Topic Answers in Open Domain Multi-Hop Question Answering

Abstract

Open Domain Multi-Hop Question Answering (ODMHQA) plays a crucial role in Natural Language Processing (NLP) by aiming to answer complex questions through multi-step reasoning over retrieved information from external knowledge sources. Recently, Large Language Models (LLMs) have demonstrated remarkable performance in solving ODMHQA owing to their capabilities including planning, reasoning, and utilizing tools. However, LLMs may generate off-topic answers when attempting to solve ODMHQA, namely the generated answers are irrelevant to the original questions. This issue of off-topic answers accounts for approximately one-third of incorrect answers, yet remains underexplored despite its significance. To alleviate this issue, we propose the Discriminate->Re-Compose->Re- Solve->Re-Decompose (Dr3) mechanism. Specifically, the Discriminator leverages the intrinsic capabilities of LLMs to judge whether the generated answers are off-topic. In cases where an off-topic answer is detected, the Corrector performs step-wise revisions along the reversed reasoning chain (Re-Compose->Re-Solve->Re-Decompose) until the final answer becomes on-topic. Experimental results on the HotpotQA and 2WikiMultiHopQA datasets demonstrate that our Dr3 mechanism considerably reduces the occurrence of off-topic answers in ODMHQA by nearly 13%, improving the performance in Exact Match (EM) by nearly 3% compared to the baseline method without the Dr3 mechanism., Comment: LREC-COLING 2024, Long Paper

Abstract

ObjectiveTo investigate effect of conducting training of autism spectrum disorder （ASD） early screening skill on improving the ability to early identify ASD of medical staffs in primary care hospitals.MethodsIn September 2021， the training of ASD early screening skills was carried out for medical staffs from 20 primary care hospitals in Chengdu. 36. Evaluation of insulin sensitivity with different formulas in type 1 diabetes mellitus.

Abstract

Objective To explore the feasibility and the value of Pittsburgh formula, SEARCH formula, coronary artery calcification in type 1 diabetes mellitus (CACT1) formula and Guangdong formula in evaluating insulin sensitivity in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM). Methods This study was a retrospective study. The patients who were admitted into T1DM comprehensive management clinic of the Second Xiangya Hospital of Central South University from November 2015 to December 2016 were collected. Waist circumference and hip circumference were recorded, and waist-hip ratio was calculated. Their blood pressure, fasting plasma glucose (FPG), glycated hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c), triglyceride (TG) and low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-C) were collected. According to the 4 alternative formulas, the insulin sensitivity index of patients was calculated, respectively. The upper and lower quartile of insulin sensitivity indexes were defined as low and high insulin resistance respectively, and between the upper and lower quartile of insulin sensitivity indexes were defined as moderate insulin resistance. According to age, the patients were divided into minor group (≤ 18 years old) and adult group (>18 years old). T test or Mann-Whitney U test was used for comparison between the two groups. Kappa analysis was used for consistency analysis of 4 alternative formulas. Pearson or Spearman correlation analysis was used to analyze the correlation between insulin sensitivity index calculated by different formulas and clinical features of patients. Results Eighty-four patients with T1DM were included. Among them, there were 40 cases in adult group and 44 cases in minor group. There were 21 cases in high insulin resistance group, 42 cases in moderate insulin resistance group and 21 cases in low insulin resistance group. The consistency between Guangdong formula and Pittsburgh formula was the best, with the consistency rate of 78.6% and the Kappa coefficient of 0.657 (P<0.01). The insulin sensitivity indices calculated by the 4 alternative formulas were negatively correlated with waist circumference (r values were -0.300, -0.697, -0.422 and -0.349, respectively), waist-hip ratio (r values were -0.733, -0.514, -0.231 and -0.678, respectively), systolic blood pressure (r values were -0.241, -0.263, -0.356 and -0.384, respectively), FPG (r values were -0.355, -0.321, -0.359 and -0.300, respectively), TG (r values were -0.358, -0.700, -0.686 and -0.423, respectively) and LDL-C (r values were -0.385, -0.369, -0.329 and -0.428, respectively) (all P<0.05). The insulin sensitivity indices evaluated by Pittsburgh formula, SEARCH formula and Guangdong formula were negatively correlated with waist-hip ratio in minor and adult groups (r values in minor group were -0.651, -0.472 and -0.631, respectively; r values in adult group were -0.755, -0.651, -0.730, respectively), HbA1c (r values in minor group were -0.936, -0.843 and -0.895, respectively; r values in adult group were -0.799, -0.752 and -0.826, respectively) and TG (r values in minor group were -0.449, -0.696 and -0.499, respectively; r values in adult group were -0.353, -0.697 and -0.360, respectively) (all P<0.05). Conclusions Four alternative formulas can be used to evaluate insulin sensitivity in T1DM patients. Among them, Guangdong formula and Pittsburgh formula have the best consistency. Pittsburgh formula, SEARCH formula and Guangdong formula can be used to evaluate insulin sensitivity of minor and adult patients with T1DM. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Bismuth ferrite (BiFeO3, or BFO) is a kind of multiferroic material with a single phase. One-dimensional nanomaterials have unique electrical, magnetic, and optical properties due to anisotropy and unique size effects. Bismuth ferrite nanowires were prepared by hydrothermal method processing at different mineralizer concentrations. X-ray diffraction results show that the increase of mineralizer concentration can inhibit the reaction to generate impurities. It can be observed from scanning electron microscopy that along with increasing of mineralizer concentration, the length of the nanowires increase. Transmission electron microscopy and UV–visible spectrophotometry results reveal that the appropriate increase of nanowires length is beneficial to enhancing the absorption of light.

Abstract

Bi2Fe4O9/Ag3PO4 (BFO/APO) composites as a kind of new material were successfully prepared through the hydrothermal‐precipitation method and employed for degrading 17α‐ethynyl estradiol (EE2). Upon illumination, the total removal efficiency of EE2 reached 98.68 % and the reaction rate constant K value of 1 : 6 BFO/APO (0.05111 min−1) was respectively 7, 5 and 55 times that of BFO (0.01074 min−1), APO (0.007260 min−1) and conventional photocatalysis (9.38×10−4 min−1). The combination with BFO also effectively prevented the occurrence of APO photo corrosion reactions. According to the capture experiments,.O2−, holes and.OH are considered major or minor important respectively to the photocatalytic reaction. This work provides a new insight in construct the direct Z‐scheme photocatalyst for EE2 degradation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Ferroelectric nanowires have attracted great attention due to their excellent physical properties. We report the domain structure, ferroelectric, piezoelectric, and conductive properties of bismuth ferrite (BFO, short for BiFeO3) nanowires characterized by scanning probe microscopy (SPM). The X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern presents single phase BFO without other obvious impurities. The piezoresponse force microscopy (PFM) results indicate that the nanowires possess a multidomain configuration, and the maximum piezoelectric coefficient (d33) of single BFO nanowire is 22.21 pm/V. Poling experiments and local switching spectroscopy piezoresponse force microscopy (SS-PFM) demonstrate that there is sufficient polarization switching behavior and obvious piezoelectric properties in BFO nanowires. The conducting atomic force microscopy (C-AFM) results show that the current is just hundreds of pA at 8 V. These lay the foundation for the application of BFO nanowires in nanodevices.

Abstract

Bismuth ferrite (BiFeO3, short for BFO) is a single-phase and multi-ferrous material with ferroelectricity and weak ferromagnetism at room temperature. One-dimensional nanomaterials have specific physical properties due to anisotropy and unique size effects. In this paper, bismuth ferrite nanowires were prepared by hydrothermal method. The effects of precipitant (NH3·H2O, NaOH) on the microstructures of bismuth ferrite nanowires were studied. The results show that NaOH is a precipitant to promote the formation of nanowires, and the single crystal nanowires can be obtained using NaOH precipitation agent. The nanowires are arranged in the same direction. The diameter is less than 45 nm and the length changes from several tens nm to several microns. The absorption of nanowires is stronger than that of nanoparticles at wavelength of 230–400 nm.

Abstract

Antimony selenide is a binary single-phase semiconductor material with suitable optical band gap, large absorption coefficient, low cost and low toxicity and so on, and it is propitious for preparing absorption layer of a solar cell. In this work, Sb2Se3 thin films were prepared by the thermal evaporation. The crystal structure and surface morphology of the thin films were characterized by X-Ray diffraction (XRD) and atomic force microscope (AFM). The transmittance was measured by UV spectrophotometer, and then the optical band gap was calculated. The influence of substrate temperature on the optical properties of the thin films was studied. The grain distribution of the Sb2Se3 thin films is relatively uniform density, no crack, and the particle diameter is about 0.25 μm. With the increase of the substrate temperature, the crystallization of the thin films is higher and higher, the thin films’ transmittance is only 10–18% in visible region, and the average thickness of the thin films is 4.1576 μm. Through calculation, the average optical band gap of the film is 1.69 eV, while the short circuit photocurrent and the open circuit voltage are 0.0648 mA and 0.8359 V respectively.
