8. Hippocampal Metabolite Alterations in Long-term Insulin-treated Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus Rats Revealed by 1H MRS

Abstract

In this study, 1H magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H MRS) was used to analyze metabolites in the hippocampus of chronic type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) rats induced by streptozocin and T1DM rats treated with long-term insulin. The results showed that, compared with control rats and insulin-treated T1DM rats, the fasting blood glucose of T1DM rats increased significantly, while the body weight of T1DM rats decreased remarkably (p < 0.05). The contents of myo-inositol (Ins), taurine (Tau) and glutamate (Glu) of T1DM rats were significantly higher than those of control rats (p=0.000, p=0.003, p=0.014, respectively), and the contents of Ins and Tau of insulin-treated T1DM rats were significantly decreased than those in the T1DM diabetic rats (p=0.000, p=0.010, respectively). Contents of Glu and Glx (Glu and glutamine) of insulin-treated T1DM rats were significantly higher than those in the control group (p=0.007, p=0.042, respectively). The metabolite changes of Ins and Tau in hippocampus of T1DM rats are sensitive to insulin treatment.

26. The Influence of COVID-19 on Irrational Consumption Behavior in a Chinese Sample: Based on a Serial Mediating Model

Abstract

Based on the scarcity theory, this study focuses on exploring the relationship between the severity of public health emergencies (i.e., COVID-19) and individual irrational consumer behaviors through the serial mediating variables of perceived scarcity (PS) and negative mentality (NM). An online questionnaire was used to collect data from participants in China and we obtained 466 effective (115 male and 351 female) questionnaires in total. The findings showed that the relationship between each pair of factors – perceived pandemic severity, PS, NM, and irrational consumption behaviors – was significantly positive. Although the perception of the severity of this public health emergency did not directly predict irrational consumer behavior, the effect was mediated by PS and NM independently and serially. These findings reveal that people who strongly perceive scarcity and are prone to negative attitudes are more likely to demonstrate irrational consumer behaviors (such as rushing to buy and hoard living supplies) once the public perceives a public health emergency as severe. This effect occurs because the PS that results from the epidemic affects people’s cognition, emotion, and behavior.

Starting from the working principle of MFC-based biosensors, mainly introduced the research progress of this technology in volatile fatty acid detection field. The effects of reactor configuration, electrode materials, septum materials, electroactive microorganisms and other factors on the performance of MFC-based biosensors were discussed based on the principle of the MFC-based biosensors. The development of MFC-based biosensor was summarized and prospected, laying the foundation for improving the performance of MFC-based biosensor in VFA monitoring, and promoting the innovative development of online monitoring technology in anaerobic digestion. 34. Effects of Doping Concentration on Photoresponse Characteristics of β-Ga2O3 Solar-Blind Photodetectors

Abstract

Epitaxial growth of $\beta $ -Ga2O3 thin films on ${c}$ plane sapphire substrates is achieved using mist chemical vapor deposition (mist-CVD) technique, including both undoped and tin-doped variations. Two levels of tin doping are studied (0.1% and 0.3% Sn/(Sn + Ga) ratios). The $\beta $ -Ga2O3 films exhibit monoclinic structure with a single (−201) orientation and a confirmed optical bandgap of 4.9 eV via X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Tauc plot analyses. For the undoped $\beta $ -Ga2O3-based metal–semiconductor–metal (MSM) photodetector (PD), better static photoresponse properties are demonstrated, including low dark current (81.49 ± 9.41 pA at 5 V), high photo-to-dark current ratio (PDCR) ([5.17 ± 0.83] $\times104$ ), UV-to-visible rejection ratio ([7.09 ± 0.86] $\times104$ ), and specific detectivity ([7.71 ± 0.96] $\times1010$ Jones). Using Sn-doped n-type $\beta $ -Ga2O3 degrades these characteristics, yet offers internal photoconductive gain, elevating responsivity (1.34 ± 0.27 A/W). In addition, the dynamic photoresponse in the MSM PD with Sn-doped n-type $\beta $ -Ga2O3 provides a significant persistent photoconductivity (PPC) effect. The present $\beta $ -Ga2O3 MSM PDs are sensitive to 240-nm monochromatic light, showcasing potential for effective solar-blind UV detection.
