Abstract

This paper examines the impact of celebrity endorsement on Malaysian consumers' behavioural intentions. Source attractiveness, source credibility and the fit between the endorser and the endorsed product are discussed and examined. An empirical study is carried out which uses stimulus materials that involve a sport shoe brand and a fitness centre. The dataset is analysed using a series of multivariate analyses and a model subsequently constructed using structural equation modelling. The findings indicated that source attractiveness and credibility are essential for celebrity endorsement effectiveness. However, the fit between the endorser and the product is not found to be significant. Nonetheless, this fit has an indirect effect on consumers' behavioural intentions, via the shared variances with source attractiveness and credibility. 10. Perivascular Epithelioid Cell Tumor of Urinary Bladder.

Abstract

Objectives: To review the clinicopathologic features of perivascular epithelioid cell tumor (PEComa) of the urinary bladder.Methods: Seven cases of bladder PEComa were studied by light microscopy, immunohistochemistry, and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH).Results: In our 7 cases, 5 patients were female and 2 were male, with ages between 26 and 78 years. Patients presented with hematuria and recurrent abdominal discomfort as the main clinical symptoms. Microscopically, the epithelioid and spindle-shaped tumor cells with clear to granular eosinophilic cytoplasm were arranged in fascicular, acinar, or nested patterns. The tumor cells were positive for HMB45, melan-A, and SMA, but no TFE3 gene rearrangement was detected in any of the 7 samples by FISH. The analysis of all 35 cases from the literature and ours showed a patient age range from 16 to 78 years (mean age, 39 years), a male-to-female ratio of 1:1.3, maximal tumor diameters from 0.6 to 18.8 cm (mean, 4.5 cm). With a mean follow-up of 27 months, the recurrence, metastasis, and mortality rates were 10.7%, 10.7%, and 7.1%, respectively.Conclusions: Bladder PEComa is extremely rare, remains a diagnostic challenge, and needs more attention. Abstract

A fast smooth second-order sliding mode control is presented for a class of stochastic systems driven by enumerable Ornstein–Uhlenbeck coloured noises with time-varying coefficients. Instead of treating the noise as bounded disturbance, the stochastic control techniques are incorporated into the design of the control. The finite-time mean-square practical stability and finite-time mean-square practical reachability are first introduced. Then the prescribed sliding variable dynamic is presented. The sufficient condition guaranteeing its finite-time convergence is given and proved using stochastic Lyapunov-like techniques. The proposed sliding mode controller is applied to a second-order nonlinear stochastic system. 19. Fuzzy control strategy for hypersonic missile autopilot with blended aero-fin and lateral thrust.

Abstract

An aerodynamic force and lateral thrust blended control autopilot is designed for the near-space air-breathing hypersonic missile with low overload cruise phase due to angle of attack restriction. The nonlinear longitudinal short-period motion model of a hypersonic missile is built, and several fuzzy control strategies are applied in overload command allocation, so as to decouple the aerodynamic and direct force subsystems. The adaptive sliding mode control approach is proposed for aerodynamic subsystem to handle the model uncertainties and atmospheric environment disturbances. A two-dimensional fuzzy controller is designed for direct force subsystem to reduce the dependence of the accurate model. The simulations show that the proposed blended controller can overcome the effects of disturbances and improve the delay effect by reason of weak aerodynamic to realize satisfied tracking performance. The simulations are also given to illustrate the validity of the blended control law in long period. The results show that the blended controller can achieve a good tracking performance throughout the cruise phase. The maneuverability of this dual-controlled hypersonic missile, with blended aero-fin and divert-control lateral jets, is enhanced obviously in cruise phase. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The ever increasing product diversity and competition on the market of goods and services has dictated the pace of growth in the number of advertisement. Despite their admittedly diminished effectiveness over the recent years, advertisements remain the favored method of sales promotion. Consequently, advertisers have to explore every possible avenue of making an advertisement more noticeable, attractive and impellent for consumers. One way to achieve this is through invoking celebrity endorsements. Additionally, the use of a celebrity to endorse a product involves substantial costs; however, it does not immediately guarantee the success of an advertisement. The question of how celebrities can be used in advertising to the best advantage is therefore of utmost importance. Celebrity endorsements have become commonplace: empirical evidence indicates that approximately 25 per cent of advertisements feature some famous person as a product endorser. The popularity of celebrity endorsements demonstrates the relevance of the topic, especially in the context of the current global economic downturn, when companies are forced to save in order to survive, yet simultaneously to heavily invest in advertising and sales promotion. Therefore, the aim of this thesis is to examine what qualities (characteristics) of a celebrity endoser have an impact on the effectiveness of the advertisement in which he/she appears. 200 self-administered questionnaires were distributed in some area of Kuala Lumpur. The data collected from the survey were analyzed using SPSS software to measure the descriptive analysis, central tendency construct, reliability, factor analysis and multiple regressions. Consequently, the results of the analysis and the implications are discussed.
