2. Evaluation of a building envelope Heat Transfer Coefficient in use: Bayesian approach to improve the inclusion of solar gains.

Abstract

Accurately measuring the actual building performance would be a significant step toward performance contracting. Methods under occupancy have operational advantages but come with additional constraints due to the variability of weather and occupancy conditions, which cannot be overlooked. Especially in recent, well-insulated buildings, since solar gains are a larger contribution to the global heat balance. This work aims to enhance the accuracy of the Heat Transfer Coefficient estimation in an occupied building by taking better account of solar gains in multilinear regression models. The approach adopted here considers solar gains from both the incident solar heat flux through glazing and from the opaque elements of a building by calculating an equivalent outdoor temperature. This model feeds a multilinear regression model whose parameters are estimated by Bayesian inference. Our model for estimating HTC is validated against a set of virtual data from a simulated detached house under different weather conditions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

International audience; This paper tends to evaluate the robustness of the summer building behaviour under inhabitants' actions. For that, two indicators are introduced: the resilience and the resistance of a building at the inhabitants' action. They evaluate by means of time-dependent sensitivity analyses how in amplitude and duration an inhabitants' action impacts the indoor operative temperature. The inhabitants' actions under the scope of the study are time-related and are: the opening of blinds and windows, the use of electrical appliances and the use of mechanical night ventilation. The evaluation of these indicators for two different designs of a low-energy house (with and without overhangs) reveals for both cases that the opening of windows in the morning is the action with the most influence during an heatwave period in term of intensity and persistence in time.

Abstract

International audience; Among passive strategies to reduce energy consumption in buildings, we focus on natural ventilation, which can bring an important decrease in temperature during summer depending on climate. Despite its simplicity , it needs particular attention to be efficient and can be improved with building control. In this paper, we focus on a simplified thermal model based on an electrical analogy (6R2C), coupled with a statistical airflow model and calibrated for a residential building in Mediterranean climate. A full-scale experiment on this building, located in a coastal area of Corsica, allows to build and test models adapted to the case study. Both simulations and measurements are used to calibrate and test the simplified model. It is shown that the calibration phase has a great impact on model performance. An adapted calibration thus allows to reach very low errors, far bellow 0.5° C on average, during the whole summer period. An application of this model is also proposed to control night ventilation in order to limit the number of operating cycles (windows opening and closing) and avoid over-cooling.

Abstract

Le benchmark porte sur un problème de ventilation nocturne induite par convection naturelle. Ce problème est résolu ici par divers modèles adaptés au bâtiment, avec des méthodes allant des formules analytiques aux simulations numériques directes en passant par les modèles nodaux, zonaux, ou sous-résolus. L’accord entre toutes ces méthodes apparaît acceptable (±20\%) sur les débits, mais pas sur la puissance thermique emportée. Il s’avère important de calculer effectivement la thermique des échanges murs – air pour bien évaluer la chaleur emportée.
