Abstract

In this paper, a two-stage modelling, to ensure a good and fast optimization procedure for microdevices, is presented. This methodology is supported by three noncommercial software. The first one is dedicated to analytical modelling of non ferromagnetic electromagnetic devices, the second one is dedicated to numerical modelling of electromagnetic devices, and the last is dedicated to constrained-based optimization. Issues and solutions of such a methodology are highlighted, and illustrated by designing a matrix of actuators for an adaptive optic. Abstract

International audience; The shape of an energy project depends on the available technologies but also on stakeholders’ decisions althoughmost energy-support-decision tools only focus on technical issues. This article aims to propose a multi-actormodelling based on stakeholders’ objectives and constraints and to apply it on the optimisation model generation tool OMEGAlpes. This modelling aims to help stakeholders to formalise their constraints and objectives and to negotiate them in a multi- stakeholders design process. Two types of stakeholders involved in urban renewable energy project have been highlighted: operators and infrastructure regulators. This modelling has been applied to a simplified collective selfconsumption project.

Abstract

The use of a semi-numerical model in order to optimize a magnetic micro-switch is proposed. It relies on a flexible sizing environment for which novel models based on sums, surface, and volume integrals necessary to express magnetic phenomena have been developed. Then, corresponding software components have been generated. This environment is applied to optimize a bi-stable out-of-plane magnetic micro-switch. The optimized micro-switch is dedicated to be used in optical micro-scanner application. Its main characteristics are high displacement (in excess of 100 [micro]m), low switching time, and current consumption (300 mA). Results demonstrate a performing and generic way for fast design by optimization. Index Terms--Magnetic microsystems and actuators, optimization, software components.

Abstract

This work comes from the demand of the optimization of an elementary micro-actuator of a deformable mirror. First, we have created a generator which package an electromagnetic solver based on the volume segmentation method into a standard software component. An experiment and a finite-element method simulation are done to validate the model of the elementary micro-actuator. Finally, a process of optimization and Pareto methodology are used to choose the efficient coil shape between two suggested structures. Abstract

During the presizing of electromagnetic devices, the designer needs fast calculation tools allowing him to make optimizations. Reluctance networks are thus very often used as approximate models: they are easy to interpret and provide very short computing times. However, to set them to equations is a tiresome task and often leads to errors. The paper proposes to automate this task. Starting from a simple and intuitive graphic interface, the model and its partial derivatives are automatically generated. Thus, optimization sizing and sensibility computation can be carried out. This paper proposes an approach based on automatic code differentiation to compute the derivatives of a sizing model during the optimization of an electromagnetic device. After a presentation of automatic code differentiation, results are shown on the example of the sizing a linear electromagnetic actuator (with a reluctance network) by using two software packages implementing the code differentiation approach. Abstract

A methodology for the computer aided constrained design of electrical devices is presented and validated through the design of a slotless permanent structure. It is based on the use of the analytical design equations of the device. Symbolic calculation is widely used to generate an analysis program and a sensitivity computation program. Those programs are linked with an optimisation algorithm that can take constraints into account. The methodology is tested with an experimental software named PASCOSMA.

Abstract

International audience; Performance optimization has become a standard approach for the design and control of energy systems. The building sector doesn't escape this trend with very dynamic research activity on the subject. This allows designing more and more efficient buildings that contributes to limit the climate change's effects. Design of buildings is usually based on a sequential approach: reduction of demand improvement of energy efficiency and finally use of renewable energies. A holistic building design approach is more efficient since the optimum of a system can be different from the one obtained by separating its components. It is thus necessary to optimize the design by considering the building as a whole (envelope, system, occupants, and environment) and over its lifetime, particularly in the perspective of the climate change. In this context, there are significant difficulties linked to calculation time, dynamic simulations of the building (envelope and systems), taking into account the climate change, combinatorial explosion related to the decision parameters during the optimization, and inclusion of uncertainties ... It is therefore necessary to use specific methodologies such as the use of surrogate models or parallel computing. The optimization is obviously multi-criteria and the overall optimum must be obtained with a reasonable computing time for an engineering office for example. The performance functions (environment, financial, comfort, reliability ...) can be evaluated with different tools that must be interoperable. In this context, we present a methodology and an environment for the holistic optimization of buildings. This environment allows the interoperability of numerical tools used by engineering offices. Finally, two optimized multi-criteria design case studies (2 test functions and the real building "Les Roches Blanche" in Chambéry) are presented to illustrate the approach and the developed environment.

It is thus necessary to optimize the design by considering the building as a whole, attentive to its dynamics (envelope, system and occupants), environment, and its lifetime, particularly in the perspective of the climate change. This brings significant difficulties related to calculation time because of the combinatorial explosion, related to the decision variables and parameters uncertainties, during the optimization. In this paper we present a methodology seen necessary to solve such multi-objective optimization problem by using surrogate models or parallel computing to obtain the overall optimum in a reasonable computing time. The goal is also evaluating the performance functions with different tool that must be interoperable. Two case studies are also presented.; L'optimisation des performances est devenue une démarche classique pour la conception et le contrôle des systèmes énergétiques, y compris le secteur du bâtiment. Contrairement à l'approche séquentielle habituelle, une conception de bâtiment intégré est plus efficace puisque l'optimum d'un système peut être différent de celui obtenu en séparant ses composants. Il est donc nécessaire d'optimiser le design en considérant le bâtiment dans son ensemble, attentif à sa dynamique (enveloppe, système et occupants), à son environnement, et à sa durée de vie, notamment dans la perspective du changement climatique. Ceci entraîne des difficultés importantes liées au temps de calcul du fait de l'explosion combinatoire, liée aux variables de décision et aux incertitudes des paramètres, lors de l'optimisation. Dans cet article, nous présentons une méthodologie nécessaire pour résoudre un tel problème d'optimisation multi-objectif en utilisant des modèles de substitution ou calcul parallèle pour obtenir l'optimum global dans un temps de calcul raisonnable. L'objectif est également d'évaluer les fonctions de performance avec différents outils qui doivent être interopérables. Deux études de cas sont également présentées. This paper deals with the optimization of the design of electrical wheels. A new approach is used that generates the optimization software. It allows the design to be made with a more elaborate analytical model of the structure chosen for the wheel. Thus, it is possible to obtain a very efficient optimization program. Abstract

This paper deals with the Space Mapping optimization algorithms in general and with the Manifold Mapping technique in particular. The idea of such algorithms is to optimize a model with a minimum number of each objective function evaluations using a less accurate but faster model. In this optimization procedure, fine and coarse models interact at each iteration in order to adjust themselves in order to converge to the real optimum. The Manifold Mapping technique guarantees mathematically this convergence but requires gradients of both fine and coarse model. Approximated gradients can be used for some cases but are subject to divergence. True gradients can be obtained for many numerical model using adjoint techniques, symbolic or automatic differentiation. In this context, we have tested several Manifold Mapping variants and compared their convergence in the case of real magnetic device optimization.

Cahier de recherche du LEPII ; 10v2.; International audience; The work presented in this paper deals with a project aiming to increase the value of photovoltaic (PV) solar production for residential application. To contribute to the development of the new functionalities for such system and the efficient control system to optimize its operation, this paper defines the possibility for the proposed system to participate to the ancillary services, particularly in active power service provider. This service of PV-based system for housing application, as it does not exist today, has led to a market design proposition in the distribution system. The mathematical model for calculating the optimal operation of system (sources, load, and the exchange power with the grid) results in a linear mix integer optimization problem where the objective is to maximize the profit obtained by participating to electricity market. The approach is illustrated in an example study case. The PV producer could benefit from its intervention on balancing market or ancillary services market despite of the impact on the profit of several kinds of uncertainty, as the intermittence of PV source.

Abstract

Ce papier permet d'expliciter les fondements théoriques qui ont amené aux spécifications d'un nouveau type de plate-forme collaborative sur Internet, pour la capitalisation et la diffusion de modèles numériques et la mise en relation des savoirs-faire autour de ces modèles numériques. Le premier prototype, faisant l'objet du projet DIMOCODE soutenu par le CNRS, est détaillé.
