This document is a guest editor's note for a special issue of the International Journal of High Performance Computing Applications. The special issue includes revised and extended versions of selected papers presented at the 14th International Conference on Parallel Processing and Applied Mathematics (PPAM 2022) held in Gdańsk, Poland. The conference aimed to exchange ideas between researchers involved in parallel and distributed computing, including theory and applications, as well as applied and computational mathematics. The focus of PPAM 2022 was on models, algorithms, and software tools for efficient use of modern parallel and distributed computing systems, with special attention given to the future of computing beyond Moore's law. The special issue includes three articles on porting applications to emerging multicore architectures, reproducibility of iterative methods in HPC environments with distributed memory, and efficient adaptation of applications to HPC platforms with GPU accelerators. The conference gathered about 170 participants from 25 countries, and the accepted papers were published in the conference proceedings. The event was made possible thanks to sponsorship from various organizations. [Extracted from the article]
