In October 2021, National Basketball Association player Kyrie Irving was banned from competing for the Brooklyn Nets because of his resistance to being vaccinated for COVID-19. Two months later, the Nets softened that stance and allowed Irving to participate in road games. This study examines two prongs of the social media response to Irving's vaccination status. A total of 12,000 posts were collected from the U.S.-based Twitter (now known as X; 6,000) and the Chinese-based Weibo (6,000), covering the first week of coverage of Irving and the Nets' announcement. Results showed that Hofstede's cultural dimensions help explain the theme differences, with Twitter's comments reflecting more individualistic notions and lower power distance than Weibo. Moreover, Twitter users focused more on opinion-based expression themes, while Weibo users avoided commenting on the COVID-19 policy. Dynamically organized chromatin complexes often involve multiplex chromatin interactions and sometimes chromatin-associated RNA1-3. Chromatin complex compositions change during cellular differentiation and ageing, and are expected to be highly heterogeneous among terminally differentiated single cells4-7. Here we introduce the multinucleic acid interaction mapping in single cells (MUSIC) technique for concurrent profiling of multiplex chromatin interactions, gene expression and RNA-chromatin associations within individual nuclei. When applied to 14 human frontal cortex samples from older donors, MUSIC delineated diverse cortical cell types and states. We observed that nuclei exhibiting fewer short-range chromatin interactions were correlated with both an older transcriptomic signature and Alzheimers disease pathology. Furthermore, the cell type exhibiting chromatin contacts between cis expression quantitative trait loci and a promoter tends to be that in which these cis expression quantitative trait loci specifically affect the expression of their target gene. In addition, female cortical cells exhibit highly heterogeneous interactions between XIST non-coding RNA and chromosome X, along with diverse spatial organizations of the X chromosomes. MUSIC presents a potent tool for exploration of chromatin architecture and transcription at cellular resolution in complex tissues.

It will critically analyze existing categorization systems, exploring the efficacy and limitations in identifying and addressing casteist comments. By leveraging information sciences concepts like grounded coding and taxonomies, the study will elucidate the complexities of classifying caste-related hate speech within these systems. Moreover, it will highlight the implications of inadequate categorization on content visibility and community impact.

X-chromosomal genetic variants are understudied but can yield valuable insights into sexually dimorphic human traits and diseases. We performed a sex-stratified cross-ancestry X-chromosome-wide association meta-analysis of seven kidney-related traits (n = 908,697), identifying 23 loci genome-wide significantly associated with two of the traits: 7 for uric acid and 16 for estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), including four novel eGFR loci containing the functionally plausible prioritized genes ACSL4, CLDN2, TSPAN6 and the female-specific DRP2. Further, we identified five novel sex-interactions, comprising male-specific effects at FAM9B and AR/EDA2R, and three sex-differential findings with larger genetic effect sizes in males at DCAF12L1 and MST4 and larger effect sizes in females at HPRT1. All prioritized genes in loci showing significant sex-interactions were located next to androgen response elements (ARE). Five ARE genes showed sex-differential expressions. This study contributes new insights into sex-dimorphisms of kidney traits along with new prioritized gene targets for further molecular research.

IntroductionThe rise in global temperatures due to climate change has escalated the frequency and intensity of wildfires worldwide. Beyond their direct impact on physical health, these wildfires can significantly impact mental health. Conventional mental health studies predominantly rely on surveys, often constrained by limited sample sizes, high costs, and time constraints. As a result, there is an increasing interest in accessing social media data to study the effects of wildfires on mental health.MethodsIn this study, we focused on Twitter users affected by the California Tubbs Fire in 2017 to extract data signals related to emotional well-being and mental health. Our analysis aimed to investigate tweets posted during the Tubbs Fire disaster to gain deeper insights into their impact on individuals. Data were collected from October 8 to October 31, 2017, encompassing the peak activity period. Various analytical methods were employed to explore word usage, sentiment, temporal patterns of word occurrence, and emerging topics associated with the unfolding crisis.ResultsThe findings show increased user engagement on wildfire-related Tweets, particularly during nighttime and early morning, especially at the onset of wildfire incidents. Subsequent exploration of emotional categories using Linguistic Inquiry and Word Count (LIWC) revealed a substantial presence of negative emotions at 43.0%, juxtaposed with simultaneous positivity in 23.1% of tweets. This dual emotional expression suggests a nuanced and complex landscape, unveiling concerns and community support within conversations. Stress concerns were notably expressed in 36.3% of the tweets. The main discussion topics were air quality, emotional exhaustion, and criticism of the president's response to the wildfire emergency.DiscussionSocial media data, particularly the data collected from Twitter during wildfires, provides an opportunity to evaluate the psychological impact on affected communities immediately. This data can be used by public health authorities to launch targeted media campaigns in areas and hours where users are more active. Such campaigns can raise awareness about mental health during disasters and connect individuals with relevant resources. The effectiveness of these campaigns can be enhanced by tailoring outreach efforts based on prevalent issues highlighted by users. This ensures that individuals receive prompt support and mitigates the psychological impacts of wildfire disasters.

In social networks, communication is dynamic due to the different semiotic codes used. This research analyses the multimodal discourse on X when images (photos, videos, GIFs, memes, emojis, etc.) and texts are combined to create an attractive visual narrative for followers. The main objective is to identify common semiotic structures or formats in this network. The methodology is exploratory in nature and is based on the selection of a strategic non-probabilistic sample of accounts from the educational ecosystem. These accounts were randomly selected and aimed at the educational community in X. The results of the analysis support the communicative tendency to use these multimodal texts that combine visual and verbal narrative in X publications. Purpose: Social media (SM) has been heavily criticised in recent years for its damaging effects on societies globally. Tasked with empowering those same societies, libraries' continued use of SM is considered ethically contentious. This study presents the findings of a University of Sheffield study that investigated the ethical tension between libraries and their use of SM by aiming to establish whether: (1) libraries' use of SM is ethically motivated; (2) ethically informed; (3) and compatible with codes of ethics in the Library and Information Science (LIS) sector. Design/methodology/approach: A phenomenographic approach was employed to gather and analyse the data for this study, which is drawn from the transcripts of seven online interviews with Bodleian Libraries staff who used Twitter, now X, in a professional capacity. Findings: Three categories of description were identified among participants: (1) Collectivist conception; (2) Settled conception; (3) Questioning conception. The categories are bound by a shared context of conceptualisation made up of a small set of internal and external influences discussed in the interviews which affected all participants to varying degrees. Originality/value: The findings were used to support the following determinations: (1) Libraries' use of SM is ethically motivated. (2) Libraries' use of SM is ethically informed, in part. Due to lack of evidence, no determination was made about whether libraries' use of SM is compatible with codes of ethics in the LIS sector. This article explores issue agenda-setting in Australia's 2023 Voice to Parliament referendum, analysing the dynamics of Yes and No campaigns in a diverse media ecosystem. We identify influential messages across this complex media environment using soft clustering of sentence embeddings from large language models (LLMs). Drawing on 3.3 million documents and over 10 million Voice specific sentences from mainstream and social media sources, we identify the narrative configurations of the campaigns, their audience size and engagement. Overall, the Yes campaign dominated with more diverse messaging and greater audience size and engagement than No. Yet, the No case prevailed. We find the narrower, mostly negative No campaign helped sustain the issue agenda both online and offline, forcing Yes to respond to it. The findings also challenge echo chamber theory, revealing most unique topics contained content from both #Yes and #No perspectives, indicating robust public engagement rather than isolated filter bubbles. Twitter (X) is increasingly utilized by medical residency programs to boost engagement and potentially enhance ranking. This study aims to evaluate the role of Twitter (X) in neurosurgery residency programs, assessing their online activity, followership, and content to identify current practices and potential improvements. We identified 97/123 neurosurgery residency programs in the United States with Twitter accounts. Active accounts, posting in 2022 and 2023, were matched with the American Association of Neurological Surgeons Neurosurgical Residency Training Program Directory. Tweets from January 2022 through June 2023 were categorized as original or retweets and further subcategorized based on content. Descriptive and correlation analyses were conducted. Twitter (X) accounts were found for 78.8% of accredited neurosurgery programs (n = 97/123), with 68.3% active as of July 2023 (n = 84/123). All active accounts amassed 167,068 followers. Among 5612 tweets identified, 2764 were original content, and 2848 were retweets. Tweets primarily focused on resident or program information (64.3%), research publications (32.0%), and conference participation (9.4%). Only 12.3% (n = 341) of original tweets contained public medical information. A significant correlation (r = 0.493, P < 0.001) was observed between Twitter (X) following and program ranking. The majority of US neurosurgery residency programs actively use Twitter (X), primarily to showcase academic achievements and aid in recruitment. The correlation between Twitter following and program ranking suggests that online engagement reflects program visibility and impact, underscoring the importance of social media in program outreach and strategic management for maximizing program benefits. Aim Methods Results Conclusion The evolution of the utility of medical social media and its global reach has led to a much greater speed of dissemination of medical innovation, such as transanal total mesorectal excision (TaTME). The acceptability and discussions surrounding such innovations can be followed online. Here, we sought to determine if online discussions over time could match known models of innovation evolution using the example of TaTME since its initial description in 2010.Data on using the X hashtag #TaTME were analysed using the social media analytics tool Brandwatch. Trends in mentions, impressions and reach were highlighted over 13 years (1 May 2010 to 31 July 2023). Each mention's sentiment and emotional connotations were analysed using Brandwatch's natural language processing approach.We identified 18 525 mentions of #TaTME by healthcare professionals, reaching over 30.6 million X users. A Gartner's hype‐cycle‐like pattern was identified for mention volume and emotional connotation over time. The majority of mentions had a neutral (84%; n = 15 341) or positive connotation (15%, n = 2675). A peak of negatively connotated mentions was identified surrounding the temporary suspension of TaTME in 2019.This study presents a novel method of monitoring online discussions surrounding new surgical innovations by healthcare professionals based on sentiment analysis of public social media data. As interest in Bitcoin as an investment asset continues to rise, this study investigates how social media influencers' statements impact Bitcoin price through sentiment and time series analysis. The research employs data from Telegram and compares it with X (formerly Twitter) to examine their effects on Bitcoin price and trading volume fluctuations using a Vector Autoregressive model. In the short-term, focusing on the five days following a shock, negative sentiment affects future price changes negatively for the first two days, while positive sentiment has a positive impact; the direction of the shock reverses after the third day. These findings align with the noise trader theory, supporting the interaction between noise traders and rational traders in the Bitcoin market. Further analysis using the NRC Word-Emotion Association Lexicon (EmoLex) to measure the occurrence of eight basic emotion words (joy, trust, fear, surprise, sadness, disgust, anger, anticipation) revealed that messages from Bitcoin channels on Telegram often convey strong trust and anticipation, suggesting a potential stimulation of noise traders' investment activities. In contrast, posts by Bitcoin influencers on X frequently employ emotionally charged words, likely contributing to the spread and amplification of sentiment among noise traders. These results suggest that messages from social media influencers function as a valuable information source for noise traders, potentially impacting their short-term behavior. This study contributes to understanding the dynamics of the Bitcoin market and offers insights into the intersection of social media and Bitcoin market movements, providing valuable information for researchers and investors. Social media has become omnipresent in society, especially given that it enables the rapid and widespread communication of news, events, and information. Social media platforms have become increasingly used by numerous surgical societies to promote meetings and surgical journals to increase the visibility of published content. In September 2020, Annals of Surgical Oncology (ASO) established its Social Media Committee (SMC), which has worked to steadily increase the visibility of published content on social media platforms, namely X (formerly known as Twitter). The purpose of this review is to highlight the 10 ASO original articles with the most engagement on X, based on total number of mentions, since the founding of the SMC. Social, cultural, and political ideologies have a significant impact on gender policies. In traditional societies, gender identities beyond those determined by an individual’s biological sex at birth are disregarded and stigmatized. In this respect, sport is of great significance for transgender individuals as a field of visibility and struggle. However, political decisions taken by international and national federations on sporting grounds lead to the exclusion of transgender athletes from sports activities. The present study examines the reactions of X users to the decision of World Athletics to ban transgender women from competing in the women’s category. In this direction, comments posted on the X accounts of traditional mass media organizations (n = 7) and digital news producers (n = 14) operating in Turkey who reported on World Athletics’ decision on X were analyzed through qualitative and quantitative content analysis. As a result of the study, it was determined that traditional mass media avoided reporting the event. Moreover, while most of the comments posted by users (93.35%) consisted of content in support of the decision, it was found that cultural (18.50%) and religious (17.44%) themes also stood out. In recent years, social media platforms, particularly X (Twitter), have become battlegrounds for political ideologies. Notably, certain European authorities have chosen to share anti-feminist messages on this platform. To effectively counter these discourses, understanding their construction is crucial. Thus, this research aims to analyse how far-right representatives in the European Parliament address feminism and gender equality on X. Using a mixed and exploratory approach, nearly 1.1 million messages were evaluated, revealing limited engagement by MEPs in gender-related topics. Five main discursive patterns were identified, offering valuable insights for developing targeted communication strategies to challenge these argumentative lines. The remarkable success of Transformer-based embeddings in natural language tasks has sparked interest among researchers in applying them to classify rumours on social media, particularly microblogging platforms. Unlike traditional word embedding methods, Transformers excel at capturing a word’s contextual meaning by considering words from both the left and right of a word, resulting in superior text representations ideal for tasks like rumour detection on microblogging platforms. This survey aims to provide a thorough and well-organized overview and analysis of existing research on implementing Transformer-based models for rumour detection on microblogging platforms. The scope of this study is to offer a comprehensive understanding of this topic by systematically examining and organizing the existing literature. We start by discussing the fundamental reasons and significance of automating rumour detection on microblogging platforms. Emphasizing the critical role of text embedding in converting textual data into numerical representations, we review current approaches to implement Transformer models for rumour detection on microblogging platforms. Furthermore, we present a novel taxonomy that covers a wide array of techniques and approaches employed in the deployment of Transformer-based models for identifying misinformation on microblogging platforms. Additionally, we highlight the challenges associated with this field and propose potential avenues for future research. Drawing insights from the surveyed articles, we anticipate that promising results will continue to emerge as the challenges outlined in this study are addressed. In today's digital society, social networks such as Twitter are a preferred place for expressing one's emotions, especially when they are negative. Despite a growing interest in the variety of linguistic realizations of commuters' complaints, little attention has so far been paid to writers' choices, especially when morphologically or syntactically simpler alternative formulations are available. A typical example is the "inference towards the antonym" triggered by the negation of contrary adjectives, an effect that is stronger for positive compared to negative adjectives. In the context of railway transport, a customer could use the negative statement The train is not clean instead of the corresponding affirmative sentence The train is dirty. It remains unclear, in our current state of knowledge, why online customers would prefer more complex constructions to voice their criticisms. Based on a large corpus of tweets sent to the French and Belgian national railway companies by their customers, I have semi-automatically extracted instances of not (very) + adjective (ADJ). Based on previous observations in the literature, I expected positive adjectives to be more frequently used in these negative environments compared to negative ones. As recent research demonstrates that one's desire to save the interlocutor's face is not necessarily the only reason why positive adjectives are used in linguistically negative environments, other motivations will also be considered. More precisely, I suggest that in a context where negativity is prevalent, customers using negated positive adjectives kill two birds with one stone: not only do they signal an issue with a product or a service, pointing to expectations that have not been met by the company, but they also mitigate the impact of their negative comments to the positive face of the service managers with whom they are interacting. By offering a quantitative, corpus-based analysis of negative constructions, complemented by a qualitative linguistic analysis of selected examples, this research sheds new light on users' lexical choices in online negative customer feedback. The importance of social media has seen a dramatic increase in recent times, but much about its influence in academia is still unknown. To date, no comparative studies analysing the effect of social media promotion on citation counts have been undertaken in neurosurgical publishing. We randomized 177 articles published in Acta Neurochirurgica from May to September 2020. The 89 articles in the intervention group received a standardized social media promotion through one post on our official Twitter/X account, whereas the 88 articles in the control group did not receive any social media promotion. Citation counts, website visits and PDF downloads were tracked at one and two years post-promotion. We found no significant difference in number of citations at one year post-promotion (Intervention: 1.85 ± 3.94 vs. Control: 2.67 ± 6.65, p = 0.322) or at two years (5.35 ± 7.39 vs. 7.09 ± 12.1, p = 0.249). Similarly, no difference was detected in website visits at one (587.46 ± 568.04 vs. 590.65 ± 636.25, p = 0.972) or two years (865.79 ± 855.80 vs. 896.31 ± 981.97, p = 0.826) and PDF downloads at one (183.40 ± 152.02 vs. 187.78 ± 199.01, p = 0.870) or two years (255.99 ± 218.97 vs. 260.97 ± 258.44, p = 0.890). In a randomized study, a structured promotion of general neurosurgical articles on Twitter/X did not significantly impact citation count, website visits, or PDF downloads compared to no social media promotion. Background: There is sustained interest in understanding the perspectives of liver transplant recipients and living donors, with several qualitative studies shedding light on this emotionally charged subject. However, these studies have relied primarily on traditional semi-structured interviews, which, while valuable, come with inherent limitations. Consequently, there remains a gap in our comprehension of the broader public discourse surrounding living liver donation. This study aims to bridge this gap by delving into public conversations related to living liver donation through a qualitative analysis of Twitter (now X) posts, offering a fresh perspective on this critical issue. Methods: To compile a comprehensive dataset, we extracted original tweets containing the hashtags "#donateliver" OR "#liverdonor", all posted in English from January 1, 2012, to December 31, 2022. We then selected tweets from individual users whose Twitter (X) accounts featured authentic human names, ensuring the credibility of our data. Employing Braun and Clarke's reflexive thematic analysis approach, the study investigators read and analysed the included tweets, identifying two main themes and six subthemes. The Health Policy Triangle framework was applied to understand the roles of different stakeholders involved in the discourse and suggest areas for policy improvement. Results: A total of 361 unique tweets from individual users were analysed. The major theme that emerged was the persistent shortage of liver donors, underscoring the desperation faced by individuals in need of life-saving liver transplants and the urgency of addressing the organ shortage problem. The second theme delved into the experiences of liver donors post-surgery, shedding light on a variety of aspects related to the transplantation process, including the visibility of surgical scars, and the significance of returning to physical activity and exercise post-surgery. Conclusion: The multifaceted experiences of individuals involved in the transplantation process, both recipients and donors, should be further studied in our efforts to improve the critical shortage of liver donors. The media undertakes the task of enabling individuals in society to receive information. However, the media fulfills its function of conveying information within a capitalist economic and political structure. Like all other industries operating in capitalist societies constrained by a market economy and a political authority, the media, too, is driven by profitable motives and often maintains close relations with the government to sustain this. For this reason, the production of information by the media is subject to the control of the government; thus, media ownership gains importance within the capitalist system. This situation has an impact on the production of information by media owners as well as on the level of information received by individuals in society. The comprehensibility of this situation is based on the economic-political. With the development of technology, social media channels have emerged as an alternative to traditional media, and social media. In this study, the news texts of the case in which Dilan Polat and her husband Engin Polat, who have been on the agenda for a while in the Turkish media, were analyzed. The news production process of the case in which Dilan-Engin Polat judged and arrested were comparatively analyzed in the context of the economic-political approach in traditional and social media. In the study, the web portal Milliyet owned by Demirören Holding, which is known to be close to the government, was preferred as the traditional media. As for social media, it was analyzed how the news texts on the issue were handled in the account named @Haber on the X, which is considered to be a relatively freer space since the government's intervention does not go beyond imposing access bans. Within the scope of the study, the news texts on the subject were classified according to the media channels from which they were obtained and analyzed comparatively with the descriptive method in the context of the economic-political approach. In line with the findings obtained, it has been determined that how news texts on the subject are handled differs in the context of the economic-political approach in line with media ownership and power relations. This article provides a sociology of Twitter (now known as X) and charts the development of the study of the platform and its data in sociological venues through an analysis of 1,644 articles published since 2009. This review helps readers understand developments in the field and provides a road map for advancing future Twitter-related sociological research. The works cited in this review advance sociological research on a variety of subfields, including but not limited to race, social movements, segregation, politics, violence, and stratification. After a brief introduction of definitions as well as methodological approaches used to study the platform (computational, qualitative, and mixed), I explore how Twitter has been used in sociological research. Furthermore, using social movements and activism as a case study, I highlight what the platform's usage and communication reveal about the social world. I conclude with a road map for advancing Twitter-related sociological research in the current atmosphere in which Twitter has been renamed X. Ultimately, a sociology of Twitter does not need to be tethered to the platform per se, as it also provides a framework for understanding new platforms if they become home for what people previously posted to Twitter/X. X bots pose a significant issue in the social media landscape, with many shared links originating from bot-like accounts. This study introduces the application of the Isolation Forest algorithm, aimed explicitly at identifying anomalies such as bots by analyzing X account details. This study utilizes a dataset that merges data from Botometer with supplementary metrics like 'average tweets per day' and 'account age in days', contributed by David Martín Gutiérrez. This approach was adopted due to the increasing difficulties accessing the X API. The dataset comprises 37,438 instances, with 25,013 labeled human accounts and 12,425 labeled bot accounts. Preprocessing is performed to remove irrelevant features, and the dataset is split into Training, Validation, and Test sets in a 70:15:15 ratio. The training set undergoes hyperparameter and threshold tuning to identify the best configuration for this specific dataset (n_estimators: 50, contamination: 0.5, bootstrap: True), achieving a training set F1-score of 0.211001. Despite these optimization efforts, the Isolation Forest model's performance remains relatively low. The Test set evaluation yields modest precision, recall, and F1-score values (0.1801, 0.2795, and 0.2190, respectively), with a ROC AUC score of 0.3272. While the Isolation Forest algorithm shows promise in detecting X bots, its performance on this specific dataset is limited. Isolation Forest may not be the most suitable algorithm for this particular bot detection task on this dataset. This article presents a corpus-assisted analysis of the rhetoric employed in the political tweets of Lauren Boebert and Isabel Díaz-Ayuso on the micro-blogging site X (formerly Twitter). This study adopts the analytical framework Appraisal Theory (Martin & White, 2005), to explore how these politicians utilize negativity as a strategic tool to discredit and weaken their adversaries. The research identifies key motifs and evaluative strategies within their tweets, illustrating the role of negativity in political discourse. Findings reveal that both politicians direct their negativity toward their political rivals, viz., presidents Joe Biden and Pedro Sánchez, while channeling it towards immigrants and independentist parties. Amongst the evaluative resources most commonly deployed, Lauren Boebert and Isabel Díaz-Ayuso utilize inscribed negative judgments of propriety and veracity to accuse their rivals based on their lack of morality and truthfulness regarding various policy issues. The qualitative study has also revealed that politicians present their stances through monoglossic formulations that leave no room for argumentation and debate. This idea reinforces that even if their negativity is not intended as a polarizing agent, it may affect the potential electorate. Purpose: The article's primary goal is to identify important competencies of different generations essentials at remote work based on COVID-19 pandemic opinions and experiences. Design/methodology/approach: The research was quantitative, using an original survey questionnaire. Frequency and percentage statistics, coupled with descriptive parametric analyses, were utilized in the statistical assessment. The Kruskal-Wallis test and hierarchical clustering analysis were fundamental to the research methodology. The target sample included 690 participants representing four generations (BB, X, Y and Z) working remotely during the pandemic. Findings: The results of the research show that: the essential competencies in remote work are the ability to manage one's own time, independent problem solving, openness to new technologies, and high motivation and commitment; different generations have differences in the assessment of competencies that are desirable for remote work; in the vast majority of cases, the importance of competencies that predispose an employee to remote work increases with age. Research limitations/implications: Given the constraints of the research sample, it is imperative to exercise caution when generalizing the research outcomes. Practical implications: The authors recommend to HR departments and managers: develop remote work patterns that are adequate to the employees' competencies, needs, and expectations; ensure the quality and effectiveness of intergenerational communication during remote work. Moreover HR should take care of the development of those competencies whose role and importance in remote work were rated the highest in respondents' opinions - the ability to manage one's own time, independent problem-solving, openness to new technologies, and high motivation and commitment. This content analysis aimed to assess misinformation themes regarding sodium reduction and blood pressure on X with the goal of providing strategies to address and debunk such misinformation. A total of 531 posts were manually coded into sodium-related misinformation themes, with inclusion criteria for posts asserting no association between sodium reduction and hypertension or claiming consuming sodium is beneficial for health. Numbers and post frequencies per misinformation theme were calculated. Post characteristics, including information sources, advertisements and narratives, were coded, and a correlation analysis was conducted to assess their association with each misinformation theme. Fourteen sodium-related misinformation themes were identified and consistently disseminated on X. The predominant theme, 'Natural Salt', accounted for 37.7% (n  = 200), reaching 1.6 million followers, followed by 'Reducing salt could be bad for my health' theme, comprising 28.6% (n  = 152) and reaching 1.5 million followers. There was a statistical correlation between the natural salt misinformation theme and advertisements. Many of the most frequent misinformation themes identified in this study have not been systematically debunked by organizations such as the World Health Organization and the American Heart Association. This study underscores the importance of continuous monitoring and analysis of sodium-related misinformation on social media platforms and their underlying commercial interests. Such monitoring has the potential to identify prevalent misinformation themes that may pose harm to the public and to inform public health organizations, enabling them to proactively address potential issues through debunking. Every day, people from all over the world use Twitter to talk about many different topics using hashtags. Since ChatGPT was launched, researchers have been studying how people perceive it in society. This research aims to find out what Turkish Twitter users think about OpenAI’s latest AI model called Generative Pre-trained Transformer 4 (GPT-4). The quantitative data used in this study consist of hashtags on the topic of GPT-4 and involve 2,978 tweets on this topic that were shared on Twitter between March 14-April 9, 2023. The study uses TextBlob sentiment scores to classify the tweets and support vector machines, logistic regression, XGBoost, and random forest algorithms to classify the sentiment of the dataset. The results from the logistic regression, XGBoost, and support vector methods are in close alignment. Los métodos de investigación que reconocen las formas de arte tradicionales, como murales, crean espacio para generar confianza e iniciar interés en la participación en investigaciones, y aumentan acceso.

BACKGROUND: Increased prevalence of mental illness has been reported in clinical studies of sex chromosome aneuploidies, but accurate population-based estimates of the prevalence and clinical detection rate of sex chromosome aneuploidies and the associated risks of psychiatric disorders are needed. In this study, we provide such estimates, valid for children and young adults of the contemporary Danish population. METHODS: We used the iPSYCH2015 case-cohort dataset, which is based on a source population of single-born individuals born in Denmark between May 1, 1981, and Dec 31, 2008. The case sample comprises all individuals from the source population with a diagnosis of any index psychiatric disorder (schizophrenia spectrum disorder, bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder, autism spectrum disorder, or ADHD) by the end of follow-up (Dec 31, 2015), registered in the hospital-based Danish Psychiatric Central Research Register. The cohort consists of individuals randomly selected from the source population, and overlaps with the case sample. Biobanked blood samples for individuals in the case and cohort samples underwent genotyping and quality-control filtering, after which we analysed microarray data to detect sex chromosome aneuploidy karyotypes (45,X, 47,XXX, 47,XXY, and 47,XYY). We estimated the population-valid prevalence of these karyotypes from the cohort sample. Weighted Cox proportional hazards models were used to estimate the risks of each index psychiatric disorder associated with each sex chromosome aneuploidy karyotype, by use of date of first hospitalisation with the index disorder in the respective case group and the cohort as outcome. The clinical detection rate was determined by comparing records of clinical diagnoses of genetic conditions from the Danish National Patient Register with sex chromosome aneuploidy karyotype determined by our study. FINDINGS: The assessed sample comprised 119 481 individuals (78 726 in the case sample and 43 326 in the cohort) who had genotyped and quality-control-filtered blood samples, including 64 533 (54%) people of gonadal male sex and 54 948 (46%) of gonadal female sex. Age during follow-up ranged from 0 to 34·7 years (mean 10·9 years [SD 3·5 years]). Information on ethnicity was not available. We identified 387 (0·3%) individuals as carriers of sex chromosome aneuploidies. The overall prevalence of sex chromosome aneuploidies was 1·5 per 1000 individuals. Each sex chromosome aneuploidy karyotype was associated with an increased risk of at least one index psychiatric disorder, with hazard ratios (HRs) of 2·20 (95% CI 1·42-3·39) for 47,XXY; 2·73 (1·25-6·00) for 47,XXX; 3·56 (1·01-12·53) for 45,X; and 4·30 (2·48-7·55) for 47,XYY. All karyotypes were associated with an increased risk of ADHD (HRs ranging from 1·99 [1·24-3·19] to 6·15 [1·63-23·19]), autism spectrum disorder (2·72 [1·72-4·32] to 8·45 [2·49-28·61]), and schizophrenia spectrum disorder (1·80 [1·15-2·80] to 4·60 [1·57-13·51]). Increased risk of major depressive disorder was found for individuals with 47,XXY (1·88 [1·07-3·33]) and 47,XYY (2·65 [1·12-5·90]), and of bipolar disorder for those with 47,XXX (4·32 [1·12-16·62]). The proportion of sex chromosome aneuploidy carriers who had been clinically diagnosed was 93% for 45,X, but lower for 47,XXY (22%), 47,XXX (15%), and 47,XYY (15%). Among carriers, the risk of diagnosis of at least one index psychiatric disorder did not significantly differ between those who had and had not been clinically diagnosed with sex chromosome aneuploidies (p=0·65). INTERPRETATION: Increased risks of psychiatric disorders associated with sex chromosome aneuploidies, combined with low rates of clinical diagnosis of sex chromosome aneuploidies, compromise the adequate provision of necessary health care and counselling to affected individuals and their families, which might be helped by increased application of genetic testing in clinical settings. The COVID-19 pandemic has produced significant psychological distress for college students due to the sudden proliferation of stressors. We examine whether and how self and parental immigration status contributes to Latina/o/x college students' mental health and pandemic stressors during the initial months of the pandemic. We draw on quantitative and qualitative survey data collected in March-June 2020 with 1,600 Latina/o/x University of California undergraduate students from three self-identified groups: undocumented students, US citizens with at least one undocumented parent, and US citizens with lawfully present parents. Quantitative analyses reveal that the pandemic produced widespread negative mental health effects but the severity of these effects did not differ by self/parental immigration status. Our qualitative analyses identify common pandemic-related stressors across our three student groups (financial insecurity, COVID-19 virus concerns, academic strains, and social dynamics); however, undocumented students and US citizens with undocumented parents identify unique aspects of these stressors due to legal vulnerabilities. Self and parental undocumented status also compromises the ability to manage common pandemic stressors because of immigration status-related exclusion from necessary resources. Ultimately, we argue that the high-stress nature of the pandemic elevated mental distress across all student groups, but the structural exclusion of undocumented immigrants contributes to unique experiences of stress among Latina/o/x undocumented students and US citizen students with undocumented parents.

The Green Deal and its implementation are generating discussions across society. Changes brought about by the agreement could impact sustainable development worldwide; therefore, identifying the most common Green Deal-related topics on a global scale can offer insight into the public mood around implementation of the agreement. Social networks provide the opportunity to find such topics because they contain a large amount of data produced by users worldwide: analysis of their content can therefore provide insight into the discourse on the Green Deal and identify the sentiment in discussions around this topic. In this article, we present perceptions of the Green Deal and identify the main Green Deal-related topics based on analysis of communication on the Twitter social network (currently X social network). Using the search terms "green deal," "greendeal," and "#greendeal," 192,567 tweets from 89,328 unique users were captured between 1 January 2019 and 31 March 2023. We identified the 40 most used unique hashtags that people used when communicating about the Green Deal, which included "#EU," "#eugreendeal," and "#climatechange," and the 16 most relevant topics discussed in relation to the Green Deal, which included both European ("European Green Deal") and North American ("Green New Deal") perspectives. Each topic was associated with a certain amount of negative, positive, or neutral sentiment: the most positive sentiment was associated with the "Industrial plan" and "Hydrogen" topics, and the most negative sentiment was associated with topics relating to "Joe Biden" and "Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez." Overall, our analysis of the discourse regarding the Green Deal offers organizations and decision-makers insight into how people perceive different aspects of the Green Deal and related topics. This may be beneficial in tackling disinformation across social networks and increasing public awareness, which could create a society better equipped to face the global concern of climate change. AbstractOver time, several methods were developed to deal with neutral particle transport problems. The interest in these problems is related to their wide range of applications, from neutron transport and heat transfer in nuclear reactors to radiative transfer in atmospheric clouds. Unlike the discrete ordinates or discrete ordinates–like methods, integral methods do not require discretization of angular variables. Instead, angular variables are completely eliminated by an integration procedure over the solid angle, which allows elimination of the ray effect. That said, this paper presents a new approach to estimate the scalar flux in two-dimensional fixed-source neutron transport problems in a heterogeneous medium, considering isotropic scattering and vacuum and reflective boundary conditions. Here, the Nyström method is combined with the singularity-subtraction technique to present an integral formulation for the scalar flux in a mesh grid over all regions of the domain. The iterative method of the Neumann series is used as an alternative to direct methods to solve the resulting system of equations generated from the domain discretization. This study aimed to (1) elaborate on microblogging-based instruction, which was built on social media platform X and designed based on the four phases of the design-based research (DBR) framework (Amiel and Reeves in J Educ Technol Soc 11(4):29–40, https://www.jstor.org/stable/jeductechsoci.11.4.29, 2008); (2) put microblogging-based instruction into practice in a medical English for Specific Purposes (ESP) course; (3) examine students' perceptions of the pedagogical value of X platform usage on their learning experiences; and (4) investigate how well microblogging-based instruction enhances the students' specialised-language performance. On the basis of the four phases of the DBR framework, a study was conducted with students studying a medical ESP course to identify the problems in the teaching practices used in ESP courses. To improve the identified problems, following the second phase, social media platform X was used to supplement ESP face-to-face instruction. Three tasks were designed for the students to do on X. These tasks were implemented and assessed on 19 EFL first-year premedical undergraduate students over 16 weeks at a university in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Data collected from the students included a copy version of the ESP final test, a questionnaire, and semi- structured interviews. The results revealed that X-based instruction improved students' ability to use medicine-specialised language, offered opportunities for students to become more familiar with medicine-specific terms, perceived ability in using writing and reading skills, collaborative learning, and generated thoughtful discussions outside the confines of the classroom. However, the students' inadequate knowledge of the specialised subject, the stress of making X mandatory, and log- in overload remain key challenges against the effective appropriation of X use in an ESP context. This article proposes a analysis of the limits of the concept of participation and its eventual political instrumentalization in a democratic environment. The thoughts of Arnstein (1969); Carpentier (2018); Sharp (2017) and Melo et al. (2019) form the basis of the literature review. The research adopts na empirical approach and presents a descriptive case study focused on the participation of people on X in the actions of denouncing the coup attempt on January 8th in Brasília. While the results of the literature review point out that the variety of historical, social and political conjunctures is an obstacle to a unique understanding of participation and its relationship with the media; the case study suggests that the participation of Brazilian citizens on X is complex, presenting traits of interaction, power sharing and negative participation. This study calls into question the notion that X (previously known as Twitter) serves as an effective global "town square" for political debates. An analysis of replies to the posts of former U.S. presidents Barack Obama and Donald Trump finds that, even when they posted remarkably similar messages, public reaction to Trump was far more negative than was reaction to Obama. However, this more negative overall sentiment was masked on the platform because there was no way to gauge aggregate reaction to the posts other than by reading each reply individually. In this sense, X serves the interests of unpopular politicians by relegating discontent in replies to their posts to relative obscurity. The study lays out a number of ways social networks could be better designed to shape political debate, including by using artificial intelligence tools to summarize the tone and nature of replies to politicians in order to reflect public reaction. Background: Conversations around disease conducted through social media provide a means for capturing public perspectives that may be useful in considering public health approaches. Syphilis is a sexually transmitted disease that is re-emerging. We sought to characterise online discourse on syphilis using data collected from the social media platform, Twitter. Methods: We extracted English-language tweets containing the word 'syphilis' posted on Twitter in 2019. Tweet identification number and URL, date and time of posting, number of retweets and likes, and the author's screen name, username and biographical statement were included in the dataset. A systematically sampled 10% subset of the data was subjected to qualitative analysis, involving categorisation on content. All tweets assigned to the category of medical resource were assessed for clinical accuracy. The engagement ratio for each category was calculated as (retweets + likes):tweets. Results: In 2019, 111,388 tweets mentioning syphilis were posted by 69,921 authors. The most frequent content category – totalling 5370 tweets (48%) – was a joke. Of 1762 tweets (16%) categorised as a medical resource, 1484 (84%) were medically correct and 240 (14%) were medically incorrect; for 38 (2%), medical accuracy could not be judged from the information posted. Tweets categorised as personal experiences had the highest engagement ratio at approximately 19:1. Medical resource tweets had an engagement ratio of approximately 7:1. Conclusions: We found medical information about syphilis was limited on Twitter. As tweets about personal experiences generate high engagement, coupling an experience with information may provide opportunity for public health education. This study used data sourced from Twitter to characterise social media conversations about syphilis. Accurate medical information was limited, whereas tweets about personal experience generated the most engagement.
