28. Neurophysiological characterization of stroke recovery: A longitudinal TMS and EEG study.

Abstract

Aims: Understanding the neural mechanisms underlying stroke recovery is critical to determine effective interventions for stroke rehabilitation. This study aims to systematically explore how recovery mechanisms post‐stroke differ between individuals with different levels of functional integrity of the ipsilesional corticomotor pathway and motor function. Methods: Eighty‐one stroke survivors and 15 age‐matched healthy adults participated in this study. We used transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), electroencephalography (EEG), and concurrent TMS‐EEG to investigate longitudinal neurophysiological changes post‐stroke, and their relationship with behavioral changes. Subgroup analysis was performed based on the presence of paretic motor evoked potentials and motor function. Results: Functional connectivity was increased dramatically in low‐functioning individuals without elicitable motor evoked potentials (MEPs), which showed a positive effect on motor recovery. Functional connectivity was increased gradually in higher‐functioning individuals without elicitable MEP during stroke recovery and influence from the contralesional hemisphere played a key role in motor recovery. In individuals with elicitable MEPs, negative correlations between interhemispheric functional connectivity and motor function suggest that the influence from the contralesional hemisphere may be detrimental to motor recovery. Conclusion: Our results demonstrate prominent clinical implications for individualized stroke rehabilitation based on both functional integrity of the ipsilesional corticomotor pathway and motor function. Abstract

Electrochemical production of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) via the two-electron (2e−) pathway of oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) supplies an auspicious alternative to the current industrial anthraquinone process. Nonetheless, it still lacks efficient electrocatalysts to achieve high ORR activity together with 2e− selectivity simultaneously. Herein, a boron-doped defective nanocarbon (B-DC) electrocatalyst is synthesized by using fullerene frameworks as the precursor and boric oxide as the boron source. The obtained B-DC materials have a hierarchical porous structure, befitting boron dopants, and abundant topological pentagon defects, exhibiting a high ORR onset potential of 0.78 V and a dominated 2e− selectivity (over 95%). Remarkably, when B-DC electrocatalyst is employed in a real device, it achieves a high H2O2 yield rate (247 mg·L−1·h−1), quantitative Faraday efficiency (~ 100%), and ultrafast organic pollutant degradation rate. The theoretical calculation reveals that the synergistic effect of topological pentagon defects and the incorporation of boron dopants promote the activation of the O2 molecule and facilitates the desorption of oxygen intermediate. This finding will be very helpful for the comprehension of the synergistic effect of topological defects and heteroatom dopants for boosting the electrocatalytic performance of nanocarbon toward H2O2 production. 48. Effect of Al nanoparticles doping on the structure and properties of sintered Nd-Fe-B.

Abstract

Sintered NdFeB magnets with different nano Al doping content were prepared by adding different nano A1 into NdFeB fine powder by intergranular doping method. The effects of nano Al doping on the microstructure, magnetic properties and temperature stability of sintered NdFeB magnets were systematically studied. Results show that the coercivity of the magnets can be significantly improved by doping nano Al. The coercivity increases from 8.91 kOe when undoped nano Al to 12.34 kOe when doped with 0.8% nano Al. However, the doping of nano Al can also reduce the remanence and magnetic energy product of the magnets. The doping of nano Al can improve the temperature stability of the magnets. Due to the low melting point of nano Al, doping nano Al can not only help the liquid phase sintering of sintered magnets and promote its densification, but also reduce the massive rare earth rich phases and increase the lamellar rare earth rich phases, which plays a demagnetizing coupling role and an important role in the magnetic hardening of sintered magnets.
