There are concerns about the risk of injuries caused by marathons in China. Since male and female runners have different injury risks, gender differences in running shoe functionality should be further complemented. A supervised questionnaire survey of 626 marathon runners was collected. The questionnaire was categorized into four sections: (1) participant profile, (2) importance of shoe properties, (3) functional evaluation of shoe properties and (4) importance ranking of shoe properties. The Mann–Whitney U test, Fisher's exact test of cross tabulation and Chi-square test, and two-way ANOVA were used to analyze the results of this survey. The significance level was set at P < 0.05. The full marathon participants were older than the half marathon participants. There was no gender difference in the importance of shoe features to elite runners. In addition, women are more concerned about upper elasticity and have higher requirements for running shoes than men. Women were more focused on injury prevention, while men were more focused on running performance. Heel cushioning was identified by all participants as the most important running shoe feature. There were no gender differences between elite players' demand for running shoes, but significant gender differences were found between genders at other running levels. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper, a transmission‐type graphene plasmonic modulator by introducing off‐resonant Au structure is theoretically and experimentally investigated. It is found that the modulation efficiency and bandwidth could be dramatically enhanced compared with bare graphene plasmonic structure. The validity of this proposed method is verified both in the 1D and 2D graphene plasmonic structures: ribbons and holes. Abstract: One of the unique features of plasmonic resonances in graphene structures is the enabled tunability through external means. Up to now, electrical gating is extensively adopted to tune graphene plasmonic resonances. This method is, however, limited unfortunately only to graphene structures with electrical connections. Here, a simple and efficient method to tune graphene plasmonic resonances by ultraviolet illuminations in a dynamical and reversible way is demonstrated. It is purely an optical means and can be applied to all kinds of graphene structures without introducing electrodes, ion–gel, or conducting layers required in electrical gating, which is of great significance especially for isolated graphene structures. The performance degradation of the asphalt mixture blended with the snow-melting agent can inevitably occur although it can be relieved by adding the high viscosity modifier or Nanopowder. The thermosetting epoxy asphalt binder, different from the conventional thermoplastic asphalt as SBS modified asphalt, was adopted in this research to solve this problem. Experiments were carried out to test the road engineering performances, conductivity, deicing and snow melting performances of epoxy asphalt mixture with the snow-melting agent content of 6%, 7% and 8%, substituting the equivalent amount of mineral filler, and then the results were compared with SBS modified asphalt mixture. The results show that snow-melting agent has a slight influence on the engineering performance of epoxy asphalt mixture. With snow-melting agent content or environmental temperature rising, the snow-melting agent release amount and rate of epoxy asphalt mixture increase, but are lower than those of SBS modified asphalt mixture under the same condition. The epoxy asphalt mixture with snow-melting agent can provide preferable snow melting performance and low ice adhesion. This thermosetting mixture with snow-melting agent possesses engineering application potential due to its excellent performance and long snow melting life. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
