Here a compact three orthogonal planes high-energy electron radiography system was proposed. One of the critical technologies, the ultra-fast beam bunches split from the bunch train are studied. The separated bunches could be transported to the three orthogonal planes of the target for dynamic radiography diagnostics. The key elements of the ultra-fast bunches split system are transverse deflecting cavity (TDC) and the twin septum magnet (TSM). The principle of TDC and TSM are briefly introduced. An example of the beam bunches split system for test experiment (40 MeV electron beam) with TDC and TSM is designed and studied by particle-tracking simulation and it confirms this method is valid and feasible. Especially with TSM, a compact three orthogonal planes radiography system can be realized. The evolution of the beam parameters along the beam line from simulation are investigated. Transformer ( tra) is the key gene that turns on the sex-determination cascade in Drosophila melanogaster and in some other insects. The honeybee Apis mellifera has two duplicates of tra, one of which (complementary sex determiner, csd) is the primary signal for complementary sex-determination (CSD), regulating the other duplicate (feminizer). Two tra duplicates have been found in some other hymenopteran species, resulting in the assumption that a single ancestral duplication of tra took place in the Hymenoptera. Here, we searched for tra homologues and pseudogenes in the Hymenoptera, focusing on five newly published hymenopteran genomes. We found three tra copies in the fig wasp Ceratosolen solmsi. Further evolutionary and expression analyses also showed that the two duplicates ( Csoltra-B and Csoltra-C) are under positive selection, and have female-specific expression, suggesting possible sex-related functions. Moreover, Aculeata species exhibit many pseudogenes generated by lineage-specific duplications. We conclude that phylogenetic reconstruction and pseudogene screening provide novel evidence supporting the hypothesis of independent duplications rather an ancestral origin of multiple tra paralogues in the Hymenoptera. The case of C. solmsi is the first example of a non-CSD species with duplicated tra, contrary to the previous assumption that derived tra paralogues function as the CSD locus. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The present paper deals with the magnetoelectroelastic composites containing a doubly periodic array of multicoated fibers under anti-plane shear loads and in-plane electromagnetic loads. By introducing the generalized eigenstrain, the heterogeneous magnetoelectroelastic medium is equivalent to a homogeneous magnetoelectroelastic medium with the periodically distributed generalized eigenstrains. Then the homogeneous magnetoelectroelastic medium with the generalized eigenstrain is solved analytically under the applied load conditions, the generalized stresses and strains in the fibers, coatings and matrix are derived. Based on the average-field theory, the solutions of the generalized stresses and strains are applied to determine the anti-plane effective magnetoelectroelastic properties of the composites. Two-phase (fiber/matrix) and three-phase (fiber/coating/matrix) magnetoelectroelastic composites are examined, and the comparison between the obtained results and the existing results shows the accuracy of the proposed method. Several four-phase magnetoelectroelastic composites with epoxy matrix are studied, and the influences of the composites microstructures on the effective magnetoelectric coefficient are discussed. The a-axis oriented 3, (TFO) thin film was epitaxially grown on (001) Nb-1 wt.%-doped 3 (Nb-STO) single crystal substrate to construct a heterostructure. The heterostructure exhibited a good rectifying behavior over the temperature range of 25-300 K, and the rectification ratio was continuously enhanced with increasing temperature. In positive bias direction, transport mechanism of the heterostructure showed a crossover from the Schottky-emission-like to a space-charge-limited type at 120 K, the temperature at which the TFO shows a magnetic ordering, while in the negative bias direction it was solely dominated by the space-charge-limited mechanism. The result indicates that coupling between electrical and magnetic orders can influence the rectifying behavior of the heterostructure. The observation hints the possibility to tune rectifying properties of a heterostructure via influencing magnetic properties of the magnetic layer. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aphids are a group of insects frequently associated with bacterial symbionts. Although Chinese aphids harbor a high level of species diversity, the associations between Chinese aphids and bacterial symbionts are less known. In this study, we uncovered the diversity of bacterial symbionts in a Chinese widespread aphid, Sitobion miscanthi (Takahashi). In this study, we detected the aphid obligate symbiont Buchnera aphidicola, and two secondary symbionts, Hamiltonella defensa and Regiella insecticola, with the diagnostic polymerase chain reaction method in S. miscanthi samples. In addition, symbiotic species of Acinetobacter, Aeromonas, Enterobacter, Pantoea, and Pseudomonas, and the family Enterobacteriaceae were also found. Geographically, sporadic occurrences were detected for H. defensa and R. insecticola. Moreover, the infection rates of them vary widely among the infected populations: H. defensa (5.26-95.2%) and R. insecticola (5.26-46.7%). Phylogenetic analyses indicated that the strain of B. aphidicola mirrored the history and divergence of S. miscanthi; however, the H. defensa and R. insecticola strains were probably experienced horizontal transmission among S. miscanthi and its distantly related species. ABSTRACT Fatigue failure of a high manganese steel crossing is related to its internal crack initiation and growth, which is affected significantly by the magnitude and distribution pattern of contact stress and residual stress in the crossing. Considering the actual service conditions of a crossing and the accuracy requirement for numerical calculation, a whole model of wheel/crossing/ties and a partial model of wheel/crossing are established using elastic-plastic finite element method. The distributions of contact stress fields and residual stress fields due to wheel contact loading are studied. The effect of train speed on the residual stress in the nose rail is discussed. The contact stress field shows regular contours in the cross-section of nose rail and decreases remarkably with increasing distance of the wheel-crossing contact position. The maximum contact stress is located at the contact surface between wheel and crossing. The maximum residual stress is located at a position of 1.5-2.0 mm below the surface of the nose rail, rather than at the contact surface of wheel and crossing. In a failed high manganese steel crossing, the dense cracks mainly were observed neither at the position of maximum contact stress (the contact surface between the wheel and the crossing), nor at the position of maximum residual stress (1.5-2.0 mm below the surface of the nose rail), but around the depth of 0.8-1.0 mm from the worn surface, which is between the position of maximum contact stress and the position of maximum residual stress. It indicates that the combined effects of the maximum contact stress and the maximum residual stress play important roles in fatigue crack initiation in the nose rail. The size of high residual stress region increases with the increase of the train speed. The maximum residual stress in the nose rail increases remarkably with the increase of the train speed.
