Georgi-Machacek (GM) Model, which extends the Higgs sector of standard model with additional triplets, can preserve the custodial symmetry at tree level and allow large triplet vacuum expectation values of order $\cal{O}$(10) GeV. Various theoretical constraints can be imposed on the parameters of the Lagrangian, including the bounded-from-below constraints for the tree-level scalar potential. We propose to go beyond the tree-level bounded-from-below constraints and discuss the positive definiteness constraints for the effective potential of GM model to ensure the non-existence of a deeper vacuum in large field value regions. Based on one-loop renormalization group-improved (RG-improved) effective potential and new positive definite criteria for homogeneous polynomial with multiple variables (which is necessary because of the custodial symmetry breaking effects by loops), we can analyse numerically the positive definiteness constraints for GM model. Our numerical results indicate that the ranges of the quartic couplings allowed by the positive definiteness requirements are quite different from that derived from the tree-level bounded-from-below requirements. Especially, some parameter regions excluded previously by the tree-level bounded-from-below requirements can still satisfy the positive definite requirements with the one-loop RG-improved scalar potential. Besides, a portion of parameter space that can satisfy the tree-level bounded-from-below constraints with EW scale coupling inputs, should in fact be ruled out by the the positive definiteness requirements of the effective potential at large field value regions., Comment: 28 pages, 2 figures

Mutual information (MI) is a general measure of statistical dependence with widespread application across the sciences. However, estimating MI between multi-dimensional variables is challenging because the number of samples necessary to converge to an accurate estimate scales unfavorably with dimensionality. In practice, existing techniques can reliably estimate MI in up to tens of dimensions, but fail in higher dimensions, where sufficient sample sizes are infeasible. Here, we explore the idea that underlying low-dimensional structure in high-dimensional data can be exploited to faithfully approximate MI in high-dimensional settings with realistic sample sizes. We develop a method that we call latent MI (LMI) approximation, which applies a nonparametric MI estimator to low-dimensional representations learned by a simple, theoretically-motivated model architecture. Using several benchmarks, we show that unlike existing techniques, LMI can approximate MI well for variables with $> 10^3$ dimensions if their dependence structure has low intrinsic dimensionality. Finally, we showcase LMI on two open problems in biology. First, we approximate MI between protein language model (pLM) representations of interacting proteins, and find that pLMs encode non-trivial information about protein-protein interactions. Second, we quantify cell fate information contained in single-cell RNA-seq (scRNA-seq) measurements of hematopoietic stem cells, and find a sharp transition during neutrophil differentiation when fate information captured by scRNA-seq increases dramatically.

Full-reference image quality assessment (FR-IQA) models generally operate by measuring the visual differences between a degraded image and its reference. However, existing FR-IQA models including both the classical ones (eg, PSNR and SSIM) and deep-learning based measures (eg, LPIPS and DISTS) still exhibit limitations in capturing the full perception characteristics of the human visual system (HVS). In this paper, instead of designing a new FR-IQA measure, we aim to explore a generalized human visual attention estimation strategy to mimic the process of human quality rating and enhance existing IQA models. In particular, we model human attention generation by measuring the statistical dependency between the degraded image and the reference image. The dependency is captured in a training-free manner by our proposed sliced maximal information coefficient and exhibits surprising generalization in different IQA measures. Experimental results verify the performance of existing IQA models can be consistently improved when our attention module is incorporated. Discrete R symmetries always play an important role in low energy SUSY. The spontaneously broken of such discrete R symmetries, for example, by gaugino condensation, can lead to domain walls, which need to be either inflated away or collapse to avoid cosmic difficulties. We propose that explicitly R symmetry violation needed for collapse of domain walls can be the consequence of multiple sector SUSY breaking. The consistency constraints for the generation of non-problematic domain walls from gaugino condensation are discussed. We also study the emitted gravitational waves related to the collapse of domain walls. We find that, for SUSY breaking scale of order ${\cal O}(1)$ ${\rm GeV}$ in one of the sequestered sector (and also a low reheating temperature of order ${\rm MeV}$ if the reheating is not completed when the domain walls collapse), the peak frequency of gravitational waves emitted can lie at nHz. Such a low SUSY breaking scale can be consistency and natural in multiple sector SUSY breaking scenario. The GWs signal by NANOGrav could be a signal of such multiple sector SUSY breaking scenario and it may also indicate the existences of light goldstini at ${\rm eV}$ mass scale., Comment: 14 pages; typos corrected, references added

Based on the Rb$^+$-Rb hybrid trap, we investigate the effect of ion-atom elastic collisions on the number and temperature of the remaining atoms. We measured the remaining atomic number and temperature as a function of the wavelength and intensity of the ionization laser, and whether the ion trap was turned on. Fittings with a single exponential decay function plus an offset to the number and radius of the remaining atoms are found to be in good agreement. We found a difference in the exponential factor of different wavelengths of ionization laser with the ion trap on or off. We suppose that the presence of electrons affects ion-atom collisions through disorder-induced heating. Our research contributes to a better understanding of how ultracold neutral plasma evolves, particularly the subsequent kinetics of atomic processes, which also serves as a useful reference for high-energy-density plasma., Comment: 14 figures, 9 pages

We propose to generate the flavor structures of the Standard Model plus neutrinos from flipped SU(5) GUT with $A_4$ modular flavor symmetry. Possible way to assign different moduli values for quarks and leptons in modular GUT scheme is discussed. We propose to reduce the multiple modular symmetries to a single modular symmetry in the low energy effective theory with proper boundary conditions. We classify all possible scenarios in this scheme according to the assignments of the modular $A_4$ representations for matter superfields and give the expressions of the quark and lepton mass matrices predicted by our scheme at the GUT scale. After properly selecting the modular weights for various superfields that can lead to better fitting, we can obtain the best-fit points with the corresponding $\chi^2$ values for the sample subscenarios. We find that the flavor structures of the Standard Model plus neutrinos can be fitted perfectly in such a $A_4$ modular flavor GUT scheme with single or two modulus fields. Especially, the $\chi^2_{total}$ of our fitting can be as low as $1.558$ for sample ${\bf IX^\prime}$ of scenario ${\bf III}$ even if only a single common modulus field for both quark and lepton sectors is adopted. The most predictive scenario ${\bf III}$, in which all superfields transform as triplets of $A_4$, can be fitted much better with two independent moduli fields $\tau_q,\tau_l$ for quark sector and lepton sector ($\chi^2_{total}\approx 95$) than that with the single modulus case ($\chi^2_{total}\approx 282.4$)., Comment: 49 pages, 8 tables.
