Abstract Background Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is among the most common complications of bariatric surgery. This study aimed to analyse the risk factors affecting the worsening of GERD symptoms after laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG), and to establish and validate a related nomogram model. Methods The study recruited 236 participants and randomly divided them into training and validation sets in a ratio of 7:3. LASSO regression technique was used to select the optimal predictive features, and multivariate logistic regression was used to construct the column line graphs. The performance of the nomogram was evaluated and validated by analyzing the area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, calibration curve, and decision curve. Results In this study, Lasso-logistic regression was applied to select 5 predictors from the relevant variables, which were body mass index (BMI), diabetes, hiatal hernia, GERD, and triglyceride levels. These 5 predictor variables constructed a model with moderate predictive power, with an area under the ROC curve of 0.779 for the training set and 0.796 for the validation set. Decision curve analysis showed that in external validation, if the risk thresholds were between 4 and 98% and 14–95%, then the nomogram can be applied to the clinic. Conclusions We have developed and validated a nomogram that effectively predicts the risk of worsening gastroesophageal reflux symptoms following LSG.

Zinc sorbate (ZDS) reinforced hydrogenated nitrile rubber was prepared using sorbic acid and zinc oxide as raw materials by in situ generation method, and the in situ reaction mechanism of sorbic acid and effect of zinc sorbate on physical and mechanical properties of the hydrogenated nitrile rubber were investigated. The results showed that zinc sorbate could be generated in situ during the vulcanization stage. With increase of addition of sorbic acid and zinc oxide, the crosslinking degree of vulcanizate gradually increased, and tensile strength showed a trend of first increasing and then decreasing. When the addition amount of sorbic acid and zinc oxide were 23 g and 10 g, respectively, the tensile strength reached maximum of 24.5 MPa. Pretreatment of the rubber compound could significantly improve its mechanical properties, but the pretreatment time should not be too long, otherwise the mechanical properties would decrease.

Abstract Background & aims The benefit of postoperative adjuvant transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (pTACE) for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), especially those with Child-Pugh (CP) B, remains controversial. This study aimed to assess the survival benefit of pTACE for HCC patients with CP B. Methods Data from 297 HCC patients with CP B7 or B8 were analyzed, dividing them into groups with and without pTACE (70, 23.6% vs. 227, 76.4%). Propensity score matching (PSM) was used to control for confounding bias, and competing-risk regression was applied to address bias from non-cancer-specific death (NCSD). Results Preliminary findings suggest that pTACE did not increase the incidence of severe complications in HCC patients with CP B7 or B8. Survival analysis indicated that the group receiving pTACE had better overall survival and recurrence-free survival than the group without pTACE after PSM. Furthermore, competitive risk analysis revealed that pTACE was an independent prognostic factor associated with reduced cancer-specific death incidence (subdistribution hazard ratio [SHR] 0.644, 95%CI: 0.378–0.784, P = 0.011) and recurrence (SHR 0.635, 95% CI: 0.379–0.855, P = 0.001). Importantly, pTACE did not increase NCSD. Subgroup analysis corroborated these results. Conclusion Adjuvant TACE demonstrates the potential to significantly enhance the long-term prognosis of HCC patients with CP B7 or B8 following hepatectomy, particularly those with multiple tumors, large tumor size, macrovascular or microvascular invasion, and narrow resection margin. Hence, pTACE should be considered for patients at high risk of recurrence following thorough evaluation.

Abstract The global pandemic has dramatically reshaped public discourse, with social media emerging as a pivotal platform for these discussions. This study delves into evolving sentiments, emotions, and prevalent topics in online discussions spanning the years 2020, 2021, and 2022, drawing from a dataset of 2.65 million tweets from the Twitter Platform. A multifaceted approach that combines quantitative and qualitative methods are developed for dissecting evolving discourses, with a particular focus on the lens of nationalism. The quantitative part disassembling sentiment & emotion, topics, and Co-Occurrence Network yields a nuanced understanding of the textual content. A qualitative theoretical analysis named Evolving Discourse Framework Analysis are designed to unravel the textual discourse. Study results in the development of an adaptable framework. Findings expose nationalist orientations and the framing elements present within online public discourse, which are categorized into three distinct frames: ‘feeling,’ ‘identity,’ and ‘action.’ Importantly, the ‘feeling’ frame interconnects with the ‘identity’ frame, ultimately shaping responses within the ‘action’ frame. The frames shine a light on a complex and interconnected web of nationalist narratives that exist within the online sphere, subtly influencing public opinion and behavior. This study serves as a reminder that beneath the surface of seemingly unified global discourse, there exists a segmented world, ripe for further exploration and understanding.

Abstract Background The Naples Prognostic Score (NPS), integrating inflammatory and nutritional biomarkers, has been reported to be associated with the prognosis of various malignancies, but there is no report on intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC). This study aimed to explore the prognostic value of NPS in patients with ICC. Methods Patients with ICC after hepatectomy were collected, and divided into three groups. The prognosis factors were determined by Cox regression analysis. Predictive efficacy was evaluated by the time-dependent receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves. Results A total of 174 patients were included (Group 1: 33 (19.0%) patients; Group 2: 83 (47.7%) patients; and Group 3: 58 (33.3%) patients). The baseline characteristics showed the higher the NPS, the higher the proportion of patients with cirrhosis and Child-Pugh B, and more advanced tumors. The Kaplan-Meier curves reflect higher NPS were associated with poor survival. Multivariable analysis showed NPS was an independent risk factor of overall survival (NPS group 2 vs. 1: HR = 1.671, 95% CI: 1.022–3.027, p = 0.009; NPS group 3 vs. 1: HR = 2.208, 95% CI: 1.259–4.780, p = 0.007) and recurrence-free survival (NPS group 2 vs. 1: HR = 1.506, 95% CI: 1.184–3.498, p = 0.010; NPS group 3 vs. 1: HR = 2.141, 95% CI: 2.519–4.087, P = 0.001). The time ROC indicated NPS was superior to other models in predicting prognosis. Conclusions NPS is a simple and effective tool for predicting the long-term survival of patients with ICC after hepatectomy. Patients with high NPS require close follow-up, and improving NPS may prolong the survival time.

Abstract Background Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV)-induced lung inflammation is one of the main causes of hospitalization and easily causes disruption of intestinal homeostasis in infants, thereby resulting in a negative impact on their development. However, the current clinical drugs are not satisfactory. Zedoary turmeric oil injection (ZTOI), a patented traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), has been used for clinical management of inflammatory diseases. However, its in vivo efficacy against RSV-induced lung inflammation and the underlying mechanism remain unclear. Purpose The present study was designed to confirm the in vivo efficacy of ZTOI against lung inflammation and intestinal disorders in RSV-infected young mice and to explore the potential mechanism. Study design and methods Lung inflammation was induced by RSV, and cytokine antibody arrays were used to clarify the effectiveness of ZTOI in RSV pneumonia. Subsequently, key therapeutic targets of ZTOI against RSV pneumonia were identified through multi-factor detection and further confirmed. The potential therapeutic material basis of ZTOI in target tissues was determined by non-target mass spectrometry. After confirming that the pharmacological substances of ZTOI can reach the intestine, we used 16S rRNA-sequencing technology to study the effect of ZTOI on the intestinal bacteria. Results In the RSV-induced mouse lung inflammation model, ZTOI significantly reduced the levels of serum myeloperoxidase, serum amyloid A, C-reactive protein, and thymic stromal lymphoprotein; inhibited the mRNA expression of IL-10 and IL-6; and decreased pathological changes in the lungs. Immunofluorescence and qPCR experiments showed that ZTOI reduced RSV load in the lungs. According to cytokine antibody arrays, platelet factor 4 (PF4), a weak chemotactic factor mainly synthesized by megakaryocytes, showed a concentration-dependent change in lung tissues affected by ZTOI, which could be the key target for ZTOI to exert anti-inflammatory effects. Additionally, sesquiterpenes were enriched in the lungs and intestines, thereby exerting anti-inflammatory and regulatory effects on gut microbiota. Conclusion ZTOI can protect from lung inflammation via PF4 and regulate gut microbiota disorder in RSV-infected young mice by sesquiterpenes, which provides reference for its clinical application in RSV-induced lung diseases.

As coal mining operations continue to deepen, the frequency of coal spontaneous combustion (CSC) and gas explosion disasters in high-gas mines is increasing. Understanding the distribution patterns of CSC and gas compound disaster zones in the gob during the extraction process is crucial for reducing the risks of combustion and explosion. This study focuses on the 201 working face of the Shuanglong Coal Mine, where a multi-physical field coupling model of pressure, temperature, gas seepage, and diffusion was established to investigate the evolution characteristics of compound disaster zones and propose corresponding prevention and control measures. The results demonstrate that the area with the most severe composite hazard is mainly located at the return roadway side, extending to the middle of the gob. With increased ventilation volume and advance rate, the area of the CSC and gas coupling hazard zone expands continuously. By implementing measures such as brattice cloth and nitrogen injection, the areas of spontaneous combustion and CH4 explosion zones were reduced by 53.6 % and 49.5 %, respectively, effectively controlling the extent of the compound disaster zone and eliminating the risk of gas explosions.

Abstract Aging and regeneration represent complex biological phenomena that have long captivated the scientific community. To fully comprehend these processes, it is essential to investigate molecular dynamics through a lens that encompasses both spatial and temporal dimensions. Conventional omics methodologies, such as genomics and transcriptomics, have been instrumental in identifying critical molecular facets of aging and regeneration. However, these methods are somewhat limited, constrained by their spatial resolution and their lack of capacity to dynamically represent tissue alterations. The advent of emerging spatiotemporal multi-omics approaches, encompassing transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, and epigenomics, furnishes comprehensive insights into these intricate molecular dynamics. These sophisticated techniques facilitate accurate delineation of molecular patterns across an array of cells, tissues, and organs, thereby offering an in-depth understanding of the fundamental mechanisms at play. This review meticulously examines the significance of spatiotemporal multi-omics in the realms of aging and regeneration research. It underscores how these methodologies augment our comprehension of molecular dynamics, cellular interactions, and signaling pathways. Initially, the review delineates the foundational principles underpinning these methods, followed by an evaluation of their recent applications within the field. The review ultimately concludes by addressing the prevailing challenges and projecting future advancements in the field. Indubitably, spatiotemporal multi-omics are instrumental in deciphering the complexities inherent in aging and regeneration, thus charting a course toward potential therapeutic innovations.

Abstract Background & aims Complications after laparoscopic liver resection (LLR) are important factors affecting the prognosis of patients, especially for complex hepatobiliary diseases. The present study aimed to evaluate the value of a three-dimensional (3D) printed dry-laboratory model in the precise planning of LLR for complex hepatobiliary diseases. Methods Patients with complex hepatobiliary diseases who underwent LLR were preoperatively enrolled, and divided into two groups according to whether using a 3D-printed dry-laboratory model (3D vs. control group). Clinical variables were assessed and complications were graded by the Clavien-Dindo classification. The Comprehensive Complication Index (CCI) scores were calculated and compared for each patient. Multivariable analysis was performed to determine the risk factors of postoperative complications. Results Sixty-two patients with complex hepatobiliary diseases underwent the precise planning of LLR. Among them, thirty-one patients acquired the guidance of a 3D-printed dry-laboratory model, and others were only guided by traditional enhanced CT or MRI. The results showed no significant differences between the two groups in baseline characters. AIM: To study the changes and effect factors of posterior corneal surface after small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) with different myopic diopters. METHODS: Ninety eyes of 90 patients who underwent SMILE were included in this retrospective study. Patients were allocated into three groups based on the preoperative spherical equivalent (SE): low myopia (SE≥-3.00 D), moderate myopia (-3.00 D>SE>-6.00 D) and high myopia (SE≤-6.00 D). Posterior corneal surfaces were measured by a Scheimpflug camera preoperatively and different postoperative times (1wk, 1, 3, 6mo, and 1y). Posterior mean elevation (PME) at 25 predetermined points of 3 concentric circles (2-, 4-, and 6-mm diameter) above the best fit sphere was analyzed. RESULTS: All surgeries were completed uneventfully and no ectasia was found through the observation. The difference of myopia group was significant at the 2-mm ring at 1 and 3mo postoperatively (1mo: P=0.017; 3mo: P=0.018). In this study, we utilized defatted yellow nutsedges meals as raw material to develop a craft beer and subsequently analyzed preservation quality throughout its shelf life. Our study determined that the optimal fermentation conditions for the craft beer included the use of Saaz hops, US-04 yeast, and the addition of 15% de-fatted yellow nutsedges. Under these conditions, the resulting beer exhibited an alcohol content of 4.50%, a foam retention time of 224.00 seconds, a color measurement of 10.00 EBC, a total acid content of 1.70 mL/100 mL, and a bitterness level of 22.15. Compared to glass bottles (GB) and aluminum cans (AC), the aroma content of craft beer packaged in polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottle was lower, while the diacetyl levels were higher on shelf life. Meanwhile, the activity of protease A exhibited a notable increase in PET bottle packaging, in comparison to GB and AC packaging.

Using a first-principles theoretical approach based on the non-equilibrium Green’s function formalism of density functional theory, we have investigated the linear photogalvanic effect and circular photogalvanic effect in monolayer MoSSe nanoribbons under different doping cases: pure MoSSe, Se-vacancy (VSe), S-vacancy (VSe), SSe-transposed (TSSe), Se-substituted S (SeS), and S-substituted Se (SSe). Our results demonstrate that doping reduces the spatial inversion symmetry of monolayer MoSSe, resulting in a significant increase in the photocurrent of the doped system and higher polarization sensitivity. Furthermore, we observed that the armchair direction exhibits a significantly stronger response to linearly polarized light than the zigzag direction, which is more sensitive to circularly polarized light. These findings indicate the wide range of promising applications of 2D MoSSe monolayers, such as in photodetection.
