Abstract

We herein present an overview of the upcoming 5th edition of the World Health Organization Classification of Haematolymphoid Tumours focussing on lymphoid neoplasms. Myeloid and histiocytic neoplasms will be presented in a separate accompanying article. Besides listing the entities of the classification, we highlight and explain changes from the revised 4th edition. These include reorganization of entities by a hierarchical system as is adopted throughout the 5th edition of the WHO classification of tumours of all organ systems, modification of nomenclature for some entities, revision of diagnostic criteria or subtypes, deletion of certain entities, and introduction of new entities, as well as inclusion of tumour-like lesions, mesenchymal lesions specific to lymph node and spleen, and germline predisposition syndromes associated with the lymphoid neoplasms.

Abstract

The upcoming 5th edition of the World Health Organization (WHO) Classification of Haematolymphoid Tumours is part of an effort to hierarchically catalogue human cancers arising in various organ systems within a single relational database. This paper summarizes the new WHO classification scheme for myeloid and histiocytic/dendritic neoplasms and provides an overview of the principles and rationale underpinning changes from the prior edition. The definition and diagnosis of disease types continues to be based on multiple clinicopathologic parameters, but with refinement of diagnostic criteria and emphasis on therapeutically and/or prognostically actionable biomarkers. While a genetic basis for defining diseases is sought where possible, the classification strives to keep practical worldwide applicability in perspective. The result is an enhanced, contemporary, evidence-based classification of myeloid and histiocytic/dendritic neoplasms, rooted in molecular biology and an organizational structure that permits future scalability as new discoveries continue to inexorably inform future editions.

10. A Novel Algorithm to Solve for an Underwater Line Source Sound Field Based on Coupled Modes and a Spectral Method

Abstract

A high-precision numerical sound field is the basis of underwater target detection, positioning and communication. A line source in a plane is a common type of sound source in computational ocean acoustics. The exciting waveguide in a range-dependent ocean environment is often structurally complicated; however, traditional algorithms often assume that the waveguide has a simple seabed boundary and that the line source is located at a horizontal range of 0 m, although this ideal situation is rarely encountered in the actual ocean. In this paper, a novel algorithm is designed that can solve for the sound field excited by a line source at any position in a range-dependent ocean environment. The proposed algorithm uses the classic stepwise approximation approach to address the range dependence of the environment and uses the Chebyshev--Tau spectral method to solve for the horizontal wavenumbers and modes of approximately range-independent segments. Once the modal information of these flat segments has been obtained, a global matrix is constructed to solve for the coupling coefficients of all segments, and finally, the complete sound field is synthesized. Numerical experiments using a robust numerical program developed based on this algorithm verify the correctness and usability of our novel algorithm and software. Abstract

The stepwise coupled-mode model is a classic approach for solving range-dependent sound propagation problems. Existing coupled-mode programs have disadvantages such as high computational cost, weak adaptability to complex ocean environments and numerical instability. In this paper, a new algorithm is designed that uses an improved range normalization and global matrix approach to address range dependence in ocean environments. Due to its high accuracy in solving differential equations, the spectral method has recently been applied to range-independent normal modes and has achieved remarkable results. This algorithm uses the Chebyshev--Tau spectral method to solve for the eigenmodes in the range-independent segments. The main steps of the algorithm are parallelized, so OpenMP multithreading technology is also applied for further acceleration. Based on this algorithm, an efficient program is developed, and numerical simulations verify that this algorithm is reliable, accurate and capable. Compared with the existing coupled-mode programs, the newly developed program is more stable and efficient at comparable accuracies and can solve waveguides in more complex and realistic ocean environments., Comment: 49 pages, 12 figures

Abstract

The propagation of sound waves in a horizontally stratified environment, a classic problem in ocean acoustics, has traditionally been calculated using normal modes. Most programs based on the normal mode model are discretized using the finite difference method (FDM). In this paper, a Legendre collocation method (LCM) based on domain decomposition is proposed to solve this problem. A set of collocation points cannot penetrate multiple layers of media, thus necessitating domain decomposition and the use of multiple sets of collocation points. The solution process of this method proceeds entirely in physical space, requiring that the original differential equation be strictly established at the collocation points; thus, a dense matrix eigenvalue system is formed, from which the solution for the horizontal wavenumbers and modes can be directly obtained. Numerical experiments are presented to demonstrate the validity and applicability of this method. A comparison with other methods shows that the LCM proposed in this article is more accurate than the FDM and offers roughly the same accuracy as but a faster calculation speed than other types of spectral methods., Comment: 29pages, 7 figures

Abstract

The normal mode model is one of the most popular approaches for solving underwater sound propagation problems. Among other methods, the finite difference method is widely used in classic normal mode programs. In many recent studies, the spectral method has been used for discretization. It is generally more accurate than the finite difference method. However, the spectral method requires that the variables to be solved are continuous in space, and the traditional spectral method is powerless for a layered marine environment. A Chebyshev-Tau spectral method based on domain decomposition is applied to the construction of underwater acoustic normal modes in this paper. In this method, the differential equation is projected onto spectral space from the original physical space with the help of an orthogonal basis of Chebyshev polynomials. A complex matrix eigenvalue / eigenvector problem is thus formed, from which the solution of horizontal wavenumbers and modal functions can be solved. The validity of the acoustic field calculation is tested in comparison with classic programs. The results of analysis and tests show that compared with the classic finite difference method, the proposed Chebyshev-Tau spectral method has the advantage of high computational accuracy. 32. Investigating the spatial distribution and influencing factors of traditional villages in Qiandongnan based on ArcGIS and geodetector.

Abstract

Qiandongnan, China, is one of the first batches of traditional villages in the demonstration area of concentrated and continuous protection and utilization. The study of the spatial distribution characteristics of traditional villages and their influencing factors is crucial to the centralized and continuous protection of traditional villages. This study uses 415 traditional villages in six batches in Qiandongnan as the research object. Using ArcGIS spatial analysis and Geodetector methods, we analyzed the spatial–temporal evolution characteristics of traditional villages in Qiandongnan and the influencing factors. The findings reveal that traditional villages exhibit a clustering trend with poor spatial equilibrium, forming four high-density regions. The villages primarily formed during the Ming Dynasty, displaying a “point-axis” expansion characterized by the agglomeration of “Place Two Districts—Trace Water into Mountains—Expand Periphery—Consolidate Pattern”. The results of Geodetector analysis show that natural, social, historical, and other factors jointly influence the spatial distribution of traditional villages, in which river density and population are the main influencing factors, and the interaction of multiple factors shows an upward trend. The results of the study can provide scientific guidance and suggestions for the centralized and continuous protection and utilization of traditional villages in Qiandongnan. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study explores the attribute characteristics, spatial distribution characteristics, and spatial layout rules of immigrant guildhalls by examining the Chengdu prefectural city during the Qing Dynasty as an example, using qualitative logical induction, GIS spatial analysis, and spatial syntax. The results show the following. (1) Immigrant guildhalls were civic buildings with a low level of support for the official regime. They had a grand scale, prominent building height, and unique architectural shape. (2) The layout rules for immigrant guildhalls included keeping immigrant guildhalls a certain distance from the dominant administrative, cultural, and educational facilities. Immigrant guildhalls had limited participation in the construction of the main axis of the city but partially participated in the construction of the secondary axis of the city. Immigrant guildhalls were mainly located in areas with well-developed businesses and convenient road transportation. (3) The official adopts two methods, control and utilization, to enable immigrant guildhalls to participate in the construction of the urban landscape order. These findings reveal the characteristics of the layout of immigrant guildhalls in the city during the Qing Dynasty and provide a basis for understanding the construction order of traditional Chinese cities. Abstract

This study integrates macroscopic dynamic triaxial tests with microscopic discrete element simulations to comprehensively examine the dynamic deformation characteristics of marine soft soils under cyclic loading. Unlike previous research that typically focuses solely on experimental or numerical methods, this approach combines both techniques to enable a holistic analysis of soil behavior. The dynamic triaxial tests assessed macroscopic responses, including strain evolution and energy dissipation, under varying dynamic stress ratios, confining pressures, and water contents. Concurrently, discrete element simulations uncovered the microscopic mechanisms driving these behaviors, such as particle rearrangement, porosity variations, and shear zone development. The results show that (1) The strain range of marine soft soils increases significantly with higher dynamic stress ratios, confining pressures, and water contents; (2) Cumulative dynamic strain and particle displacement intensify at water contents of 50% and 55%. However, at a water content of 60%, the samples exhibit significant damage characterized by the formation of shear bands throughout the entire specimen; (3) As water content increases, energy dissipation in marine soft soils accelerates under lower confining pressures but increases more gradually under higher confining pressures. This behavior is attributed to enhanced particle packing and reduced pore space at elevated confining pressures. This integrated methodology not only enhances analytical capabilities but also provides valuable engineering insights into the dynamic response of marine soft soils. Abstract

Soft marine soil exhibits unique mechanical properties that can lead to significant deformation and instability in the surrounding rock of urban subway tunnels. This presents a critical challenge for tunnel engineering researchers and designers. This thesis investigates the stability characteristics of surrounding rock in marine soft soil tunnels under cyclic loading conditions. Focusing on the shield tunnel segment between Left Fortress Station and Taiziwan Station of Shenzhen Urban Rail Transit Line 12, a discrete–continuous coupled numerical analysis method is employed to examine the deformation characteristics of the surrounding rock. This analysis takes into account the effects of dynamic loads resulting from train operations on the arch bottom's surrounding rock. The findings indicate that damage to the surrounding rock occurs gradually, with the marine soft soil layer, particularly at higher water content, being prone to substantial plastic deformation. Additionally, under the influence of train vibration loads, the degree of vertical fluctuation in the internal marine soft soil diminishes with increasing depth from the bottom of the tunnel arch. This coupled numerical analysis approach offers valuable insights and methodologies for assessing the structural safety of tunnel projects throughout their operational periods. Abstract

Based on additive state decomposition technique, this article presents an adaptive dynamic‐surface repetitive control method for a class of uncertain nonlinear systems with mismatched disturbances and input delay. First, the original uncertain nonlinear system is decomposed into a linear time invariant (LTI) primary system responsible for the periodic signal tracing and rejection task, and a nonlinear secondary system with input time delay responsible for the robust stabilization task. A modified repetitive controller with a small correction to the delay constant is then independently designed for the LTI primary system, while an adaptive dynamic surface controller is designed for the nonlinear secondary system. Stability analysis is performed for each subsystem and the design procedure of the whole system is presented in detail. Finally, comparative simulations with other repetitive control and dynamic surface control methods show that the presented method not only relaxes the constraints on the reference inputs and exogenous disturbances, but also ensures that the system has better disturbance rejection and periodic‐signal tracking performance in both transient and steady states.
