Abstract BackgroundThe use of chronic disease information systems in hospitals and communities plays a significant role in disease prevention, control, and monitoring. However, there are several limitations to these systems, including that the platforms are generally isolated, the patient health information and medical resources are not effectively integrated, and the “Internet Plus Healthcare” technology model is not implemented throughout the patient consultation process. ObjectiveThe aim of this study was to evaluate the efficiency of the application of a hospital case management information system in a general hospital in the context of chronic respiratory diseases as a model case. MethodsA chronic disease management information system was developed for use in general hospitals based on internet technology, a chronic disease case management model, and an overall quality management model. Using this system, the case managers provided sophisticated inpatient, outpatient, and home medical services for patients with chronic respiratory diseases. Chronic respiratory disease case management quality indicators (number of managed cases, number of patients accepting routine follow-up services, follow-up visit rate, pulmonary function test rate, admission rate for acute exacerbations, chronic respiratory diseases knowledge awareness rate, and patient satisfaction) were evaluated before (2019‐2020) and after (2021‐2022) implementation of the chronic disease management information system. ResultsBefore implementation of the chronic disease management information system, 1808 cases were managed in the general hospital, and an average of 603 (SD 137) people were provided with routine follow-up services. After use of the information system, 5868 cases were managed and 2056 (SD 211) patients were routinely followed-up, representing a significant increase of 3.2 and 3.4 times the respective values before use (UPP(P ConclusionsUse of a chronic disease management information system improves the quality of chronic respiratory disease case management and reduces the admission rate of patients owing to acute exacerbations of their diseases.

Abstract Further increasing the critical temperature and/or decreasing the stabilized pressure are the general hopes for the hydride superconductors. Inspired by the low stabilized pressure associated with Ce 4f electrons in superconducting cerium superhydride and the high critical temperature in yttrium superhydride, we carry out seven independent runs to synthesize yttrium-cerium alloy hydrides. The synthetic process is examined by the Raman scattering and X-ray diffraction measurements. The superconductivity is obtained from the observed zero-resistance state with the detected onset critical temperatures in the range of 97-141 K. The upper critical field towards 0 K at pressure of 124 GPa is determined to be between 56 and 78 T by extrapolation of the results of the electrical transport measurements at applied magnetic fields. The analysis of the structural data and theoretical calculations suggest that the phase of Y0.5Ce0.5H9 in hexagonal structure with the space group of P63/m m c is stable in the studied pressure range. These results indicate that alloying superhydrides indeed can maintain relatively high critical temperature at relatively modest pressures accessible by laboratory conditions.

The 8-16-4 graphyne, a recently identified two-dimensional carbon allotrope, exhibits distinctive mechanical and electrical properties, making it a candidate material for flexible electronic applications. This study endeavors to enhance our comprehension of the fracture behavior and mechanical properties of 8-16-4 graphyne. The mechanical properties of 8-16-4 graphyne were evaluated through molecular dynamics simulations, examining the impact of boundary conditions, temperature, and strain rate, as well as the coupled interactions between temperature, vacancy defects, and microcracks. The findings reveal that 8-16-4 graphyne undergoes fracture via the cleavage of ethylene bonds at a critical strain value of approximately 0.29. Variations in boundary conditions and strain rate influence the fidelity of tensile simulation outcomes. Temperature, vacancy concentration, and the presence of microcracks markedly affect the mechanical properties of 8-16-4 graphyne. In contrast to other carbon allotropes, 8-16-4 graphyne exhibits a diminished sensitivity to vacancy defects in its mechanical performance. However, carbon vacancies at particular sites are more prone to initiating cracks. Furthermore, pre-existing microcracks within the material can potentially alter the fracture mode.

Abstract To explore carbide superconductors with higher transition temperature, two novel carbon structures of cage‐network are designed and their superconductivity is studied by doping metals. MC6 and MC10 are respectively identified as C24 and C32 cage‐network structures. This study finds that both carbon structures drive strong electron–phonon interaction and can exhibit superconductivity above liquid nitrogen temperature. Importantly, the superconducting transition temperatures above 100 K are predicted to be achieved in C24‐cage‐network systems doped by Na, Mg, Al, In, and Tl at ambient pressure, which is far higher than those in graphite, fullerene, and other carbides. Meanwhile, the superconductivity of cage‐network carbides is also found to be sensitive to the electronegativity and concentration of dopant M. The result indicates that the higher transition temperatures can be obtained by optimizing the carbon‐cage‐network structures and the doping conditions. The study suggests that the carbon‐cage‐network structure is a direction to explore high‐temperature superconducting carbides.

The strength of the phonon anharmonic effect of the pristine FeSi2 and Co-doped Fe0.94Co0.06Si2 is investigated by a Raman scattering study on the vibrational properties of those materials in the temperature range of 300–1523 K. All the vibrational modes exhibit significant redshifts with increasing temperature, and their spectral widths increase simultaneously. The structure transition from the semiconducting β phase to the metallic α phase is evidenced by the sudden disappearance of the vibrational modes. The extended Klemens model is applied to study the anharmonic effect on the phonon frequency shift and damping constant, and the four-phonon decaying process is expected to be the dominant one after doping the metal Co. Such an enhancement is also suggested contributing to the reduction of the thermal conductivity in Fe0.94Co0.06Si2. In addition, the vibrational properties of the mode at 250 cm−1 are more sensitive to the anharmonicity effect than that of the mode at 195 cm−1. This work provides valuable insights for understanding the high-order anharmonic effects in thermoelectric materials, especially in chemically doped materials.

Mg3Bi2−vSbv (0 ≤ v ≤ 2) is a class of promising thermoelectric materials that have a high thermoelectric performance around room temperatures, whereas their thermoelectric properties under pressures and temperatures are still illusive. In this study, we examined the influence of pressure, temperature, and carrier concentration on the thermoelectric properties of Mg3Bi2−vSbv using first-principle calculations accompanied with Boltzmann transport equations method. There is a decrease in the lattice thermal conductivity of Mg3Sb2 (i.e., v = 2) with increasing pressure. For a general Mg3Bi2−vSbv system, power factors are more effectively improved by n-type doping where electrons are the primary carriers over holes in n-type doping, and can be further enhanced by applied pressure. The figure of merit (zT) exhibits a positive correlation with temperature. A high zT value of 1.53 can be achieved by synergistically tuning the temperature, pressure, and carrier concentration in Mg3Sb2. This study offers valuable insights into the tailoring and optimization of the thermoelectric properties of Mg3Bi2−vSbv.

Mg3(BixSb1−x)2 (0 ≤ x ≤ 1) nanocomposites are a highly appealing class of thermoelectric materials that hold great potential for solid-state cooling applications. Tuning of the lattice thermal conductivity is crucial for improving the thermoelectric properties of these materials. Hereby, we investigated the lattice thermal conductivity of Mg3(BixSb1−x)2 nanocomposites with varying Bi content (x = 0.0, 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, and 1.0) using first-principles calculations. This study reveals that the lattice thermal conductivity follows a classical inverse temperature-dependent relationship. There is a significant decrease in the lattice thermal conductivity when the Bi content increases from 0 to 0.25 or decreases from 1.0 to 0.75 at 300 K. In contrast, when the Bi content increases from 0.25 to 0.75, the lattice thermal conductivity experiences a gradual decrease and reaches a plateau. For the nanohybrids (x = 0.25, 0.5, and 0.75), the distribution patterns of the phonon group velocity and phonon lifetime are similar, with consistent distribution intervals. Consequently, the change in lattice thermal conductivity is not pronounced. However, the phonon group speed and phonon lifetime are generally lower compared to those of the pristine components with x = 0 and x = 1.0. Our results suggest that the lattice thermal conductivity is sensitive to impurities but not to concentrations. This research provides valuable theoretical insights for adjusting the lattice thermal conductivity of Mg3(BixSb1−x)2 nanocomposites.

Abstract Chinese herbal medicines (CHMs) have unique advantages in the prevention and treatment of diseases, which are widely recognized in the world. More and more CHMs are becoming increasingly popular in the international markets. However, the quality control of CHMs is a significant issue for their acceptance and recognition in the international market. This review mainly focuses on the quality requirements for CHMs to enter the European Union (EU) market. Both Chinese and European regulations and quality controls are compared. Firstly, the EU medicinal regulatory system and relevant regulations were reviewed. Secondly, the key factors of the quality control of CHMs, including Chinese herbal drugs, extracts and products were compared with those of European herbal medicines in the EU market. Subsequently, three main registration routes for herbal medicinal products including Chinese herbal medicinal products entering the EU were introduced. Furthermore, the legal status of traditional Chinese medicine granules in the EU was also discussed. Through the comparison of the key quality factors for CHMs in China and the EU, the similarities and differences in terms of quality requirements and regulations are addressed, which provides a reference for the development of CHMs into the EU market.

Ophiopogon japonicus (OJ) is a traditional Chinese herbal medicine that has been used for thousands of years. Recently, the anticancer effects of OJ have been reported in multiple types of cancer, particularly in lung cancer. However, the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. In present study, the effects of OJ against NCI-H1299 human lung cancer cells were investigated, and the underlying mechanisms were explored using ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UHPLC/Q-TOF-MS)-based cell metabolomics. As a result, OJ inhibited the proliferation, induced the apoptosis and suppressed the migration of NCI-H1299 cells. A total of 22 differential metabolites responsible for the effects of OJ were screened and annotated based on the LC-MS-based cell metabolomics approach. The altered metabolites were involved in three metabolic pathways, including glycerophospholipid metabolism, ether lipid metabolism and glutathione metabolism. These results showed that cell metabolomics-based strategies are promising tools to discover the action mechanisms of OJ against lung cancer cells.

Monk fruit, also named Luo Han Guo, is the fruit of Siraitia grosvenorii (Swingle) C. Jeffrey ex A. M. Lu et Z. Y. Zhang and has been used as both food and traditional Chinese medicine. Due to preservation concerns, monk fruit is usually processed by hot-air drying or using low-temperature techniques after harvest. In this study, high-performance thin-layer chromatography (HPTLC) method was developed for the analysis of 13 mogrosides, 1 flavonoid, and 3 sugars in monk fruit products. Then chemometric analysis was applied to investigate the chemical characteristics in the samples dried by different methods. The results showed that the contents of mogroside V, 11-oxo-mogroside V, isomogroside V, and sucrose in monk fruits dried at low temperature were much higher than those in traditional hot-air drying samples, which was also confirmed by HPTLC-scanning. These findings indicate that HPTLC combined with chemometric analysis provides a reliable tool to understand the chemical differences between the monk fruit products processed by different drying methods, which will be helpful for their quality evaluation.

Abstract The electronic structure near the Fermi surface determines the electrical properties of the materials, which can be effectively tuned by external pressure. Bi0.5Sb1.5Te3 is a p‐type thermoelectric material which holds the record high figure of merit at room temperature. Here it is examined whether the figure of merit of this model system can be further enhanced through some external parameter. With the application of pressure, it is surprisingly found that the power factor of this material exhibits λ behavior with a high value of 4.8 mW m−1 K−2 at pressure of 1.8 GPa. Such an enhancement is found to be driven by pressure‐induced electronic topological transition, which is revealed by multiple techniques. Together with a low thermal conductivity of about 0.89 W m−1 K−1 at the same pressure, a figure of merit of 1.6 is achieved at room temperature. The results and findings highlight the electronic topological transition as a new route for improving the thermoelectric properties.

As a prevalent medicinal liquor among Chinese people, a type of Chinese herbal spirit from Jing Brand Co., Ltd (CHS-J) is a newly developed health beverage with the health functions of anti-fatigue and immune enhancement. The researchers from the enterprise found that the contents of several components in CHS-J samples have been significantly decreasing during the stated storage period, as detected by the HPLC-UV method, which would make a great challenge for quality control of CHS-J. Furthermore, the chemical stability of CHS-J during the storage period is greatly challenged affected, especially in the environment of high temperature and light exposure. To systematically reveal the unstable components and promote the quality control of CHS-J, the chemical stability of CHS-J during the shelving storage period was characterized by the UPLC/Q-TOFMS-based metabolomics approach. First, the targeted and untargeted metabolomics approaches discovered the significantly changed components in CHS-J samples produced in different years. Furthermore, the accelerated tests of newly produced CHS samples and several authorized standards were conducted to validate the above results and elucidate the possible mechanisms underlying these chemical changes. Moreover, these chemical changes during the storage period had little influence on the anti-fatigue effect of CHS-J samples. These findings will offer new insight into the understanding of the chemical stability of CHS-J and will facilitate the quality control of CHS-J.

As a newly synthesized two-dimensional carbon material, the stability study of monolayer fullerene networks or quasi-hexagonal phase fullerenes (qhp-C60) is timely desirable. We have investigated the stabilities of qhp-C60, including thermal, structural, mechanical, and thermodynamic stabilities, as well as the bonding characteristics, ductility, and mechanical properties, via first-principles calculations. The results show that qhp-C60 is energetically, mechanically, and thermodynamically stable. The thermodynamic stability of qhp-C60 at 300 K and 600 K is verified. The bonding characteristics of qhp-C60 are analyzed from the bond length, and it has sp2 and sp3 hybridization. The Pugh ratio (B/G) and Poisson’s ratio (v) indicate similar ductility with graphite and graphene. We also found that qhp-C60 has the lowest hardness and the anisotropy of the material. In addition, the electronic characteristics, including electron localization function (ELF), crystal orbital Hamiltonian population (COHP), and density of states (DOS) at different temperatures, are analyzed to verify the thermal stability of the material. Our results might be helpful in the material design of qhp-C60-related applications.

The tuberous root of Ophiopogon japonicus (Thunb.) Ker-Gawl. is a well-known Chinese medicine also called Maidong (MD) in Chinese. It could be divided into “Chuanmaidong” (CMD) and “Zhemaidong” (ZMD), according to the geographic origins. Meanwhile, the root of Liriope spicata (Thunb.) Lour. var. prolifera Y. T. Ma (SMD) is occasionally used as a substitute for MD in the market. In this study, a reliable pressurized liquid extraction and HPLC-DAD-ELSD method was developed for the simultaneous determination of nine chemical components, including four steroidal saponins (ophiopojaponin C, ophiopogonin D, liriopesides B and ophiopogonin D’), four homoisoflavonoids (methylophiopogonone A, methylophiopogonone B, methylophiopogonanone A and methylophiopogonanone B) and one sapogenin (ruscogenin) in CMD, ZMD and SMD. The method was validated in terms of linearity, sensitivity, precision, repeatability and accuracy, and then applied to the real samples from different origins. The results indicated that there were significant differences in the contents of the investigated compounds in CMD, ZMD and SMD. Ruscogenin was not detected in all the samples, and liriopesides B was only found in SMD samples. CMD contained higher ophiopogonin D and ophiopogonin D’, while the other compounds were more abundant in ZMD. Moreover, the anticancer effects of the herbal extracts and selected components against A2780 human ovarian cancer cells were also compared. CMD and ZMD showed similar cytotoxic effects, which were stronger than those of SMD. The effects of MD may be due to the significant anticancer potential of ophiopognin D’ and homoisoflavonoids. These results suggested that there were great differences in the chemical composition and pharmacological activity among CMD, ZMD and SMD; thus, their origins should be carefully considered in clinical application.

Abstract Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) are becoming more and more popular all over the world. However, quality issues of TCM may lead to medical incidents in practice and therefore quality control is essential to TCM. In this review, the state of TCM in European Pharmacopoeia are compared with that in Chinese Pharmacopoeia, and herbal drugs that are not considered as TCM and not elaborated by TCM working party at European Directorate for the Quality of Medicines & Health Care (EDQM) but present in both European Pharmacopoeia and Chinese Pharmacopoeias are also discussed. Different aspects in quality control of TCM including origins, identification, tests and assays, as well as sample preparation, marker selection and TCM processing are covered to address the importance of establishing comprehensive quality standard of TCM. Furthermore, advanced analytical techniques for quality control and standard establishment of TCM are also reviewed.

Mg3Bi2-xSbx is a promising thermoelectric material working around room temperatures. Compared to electronic and thermoelectric properties, its mechanical properties are of great importance in practical applications but much less understood. Herein, we have systematically studied the elasticity of Mg3Bi2-xSbx by means of first-principles calculations with a large supercell of 40 atoms. We demonstrated that the 10-atom-unitcell is undersized with improper electronic structures. With the elastic constants, we have explored the comprehensive elastic features and the three-dimensional distribution of fundamental characteristics of Young’s modulus and Poisson’s ratio and their variation with respect to the Sb content x. We interpolate the variation in terms of the valence electron concentration. We have further examined the hardness, ductility, anisotropicity, and Debye temperatures. The elasticity exhibits strong anisotropy where the maxima are approximately three times larger than the minima for modules. A nearly linear dependence is also observed on the Sb content except x in the vicinity of 0.5. Our atomistic insights on elasticity might be helpful in the material design of thermoelectrics with desirable mechanical properties. Our work could serve as a map for tuning the mechanical properties of Mg3Bi2-xSbx and guide the possible synthesizing of novel thermoelectric material.

Molecular systems are predicted to transform into atomic solids and be metallic at high pressure; this was observed for the diatomic elements iodine and bromine. Here the authors access the higher pressures needed to observe the dissociation in chlorine, through an incommensurate phase, and provide evidence for metallization.

In this study, a high-performance thin layer chromatography (HPTLC) method by two step gradient elution with two mobile phases was developed for the simultaneous analysis of seven constituents in Ophiopogonis Radix. The chromatography was performed on silica gel 60 F254 plate with dichloromethane-methanol-ethyl acetate-water (70:25:12:3, v/v/v/v) and dichloromethane-methanol (300:1, v/v) as the mobile phase for two step gradient elution. Then, the HPTLC profiles were observed after derivatization with 10% sulfuric acid in ethanol solution. The obtained HPTLC images were further analyzed by chemometric approaches and the samples could be clustered based on regions and/or growth years, which were two important factors affecting the constituents in Ophiopogonis Radix. Furthermore, five compounds including ophiopogonin D, ophiopojaponin C, ophiopogonin D’, ophiopogonin C’ and methylophiopogonanone B were screened as potential lipase inhibitors from Ophiopogonis Radix by the HPTLC-bioautographic method. The binding modes and interactions between the five compounds and lipase were further explored by molecular docking analysis. The developed HPTLC method could be used for quality control of Ophiopogonis Radix and screening of the potential lipase inhibitors.

Recent reports of the superconductivity in hydrides of two different families (covalent lattice, as in SH3 and clathrate-type H-cages containing La and Y atoms, as in LaH10 and YH6) have revealed new families of high-Tc materials with Tc’s near room temperature values. These findings confirm earlier expectations that hydrides may have very high Tc’s due to the fact that light H atoms have very high vibrational frequencies, leading to high Tc values within the conventional Bardeen–Cooper–Schrieffer phonon mechanism of superconductivity. However, as is pointed out by Ashcroft, it is important to have the metallic hydrogen “alloyed” with the elements added to it. This concept of a metallic alloy containing a high concentration of metal-like hydrogen atoms has been instrumental in finding new high-Tc superhydrides. These new superhydride “room-temperature” superconductors are stabilized only at very high pressures above 100 GPa, making the experimental search for their superconducting properties very difficult. We will review the current experimental and theoretical results for LaH10−x and YH6−x superhydrides.

The rich physical properties of metal-intercalated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon materials have recently attracted considerable attention. Crystals of potassium-intercalated 2,7-dimethylnaphthalene were synthesized via solid phase reaction. The combination of XRD measurements and first-principles calculations indicated that each unit cell contains two potassium atoms and four organic molecules. Magnetization measurements revealed that the samples show a Curie paramagnetism. Theoretical calculations showed that the intercalated structure becomes metallic and has local magnetic moment. Raman spectroscopy confirmed the migration of electron from potassium 4s to carbon 2p orbital, which is the source of magnetism. Our research on naphthalene derivatives is helpful for expanding the range of novel organic magnetic materials and organic superconducting materials.

The development of potential magnetic materials in metal-doped polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons has been a research hotspot in recent years. Here we have successfully synthesized stable potassium-doped 2,3-dimethylnaphthalene samples. The combination of first-principles calculations and XRD results identifies that doping of potassium into 2,3-dimethylnaphthalene forms a monoclinic structure with a molar ratio of 1:2 between potassium and molecule. The red shifts in the Raman spectra indicate that potassium 4s electrons are transferred to the organic molecules. The magnetic measurements show that the doped materials exhibit a temperature-independent magnetization in the temperature region of 1.8–300 K, which is consistent with the Pauli paramagnetic behavior. This is distinct from the diamagnetism of pristine material. Compared to the previous focus on benzene ring structure, our study of aromatic hydrocarbon derivatives of benzene ring opens a new route for the development of this field.

The discovery of superconductivity above 30 K in aromatic hydrocarbons in the past years has been an exciting event in condensed matter physics, chemistry, and materials. Superconductivity was realized by simply introducing electrons in the network made by carbon and hydrogen—the two components for organic systems. However, the accurate amount of doped electrons and their positions have not been established experimentally. No agreement has been reached for the mechanism of their superconductivity. Here, the first-principles theory with the combination of electron correlations is used to address these problems. Our calculations show that both the single-ring compound (benzene) and the two benzene ring compound (naphthalene) are superconductors with transition temperatures (Tc's) of 6.2 K and 5.8 K, respectively, after administration of potassium. By examining the existing experimental data carefully, we find that there exists a unique superconducting phase with Tc in the range of 5 − 7 K for all aromatic hydrocarbons. The almost constant low density of states at Fermi level with about two-electron doping accounts for this unified phase. The high density of states at Fermi level upon three-electron doping seems responsible for the high-Tc phase in these hydrocarbons with long benzene rings. Meanwhile, the electronic correlations also increase with an increasing number of benzene rings. These findings offer clues to the understanding of the superconductivity as well as to the search of new superconductors in this family.

Raman scattering measurements are performed on benzene and a number of p-oligophenyls including biphenyl, p-terphenyl, p-quaterphenyl, p-quinquephenyl, and p-sexiphenyl at ambient conditions. The vibrational modes of the intra- and intermolecular terms in these materials are analyzed and compared. Chain length effects on the vibrational properties are examined for the C-H in-plane bending mode and the inter-ring C-C stretching mode at around 1200 cm−1 and 1280 cm−1, respectively, and the C-C stretching modes at around 1600 cm−1. The complex and fluctuating properties of these modes result in an imprecise estimation of the chain length of these molecules. Meanwhile, the obtained ratio of the intensities of the 1200 cm−1 mode and 1280 cm−1 mode is sensitive to the applied lasers. A librational motion mode with the lowest energy is found to have a monotonous change with the increase in the chain length. This mode is simply relevant to the c axis of the unit cell. Such an obvious trend makes it a better indicator for determining the chain length effects on the physical and chemical properties in these molecules.

Based on the density functional theory plus the effective Coulomb repulsion U, we have investigated the crystal structure, electronic properties and magnetic characteristics in Sm-doped phenanthrene, recently characterized as a superconductor with Tc∼5−6 Kelvin. Calculated total energies of different magnetic states indicate that Sm-doped phenanthrene is stable at the ferromagnetic ground-state. Considered the strong electronic correlations effect due to the intercalation of Sm-4f electrons, we found that the Sm-4f contributes to the Fermi surface together with C-2p, which is different from K-doped phenanthrene. Compared with alkali-metal-doped phenanthrene, Sm atom has larger local magnetic moment, which suppresses the superconductivity in conventional superconductors. Our results indicate that the electron-electron correlations play an important role in superconductivity of Sm-doped phenanthrene.

The experimental discovery of superconductivity was reported in Sm-doped chrysene with Tc∼5 K, which provides vital material for exploring unique superconducting mechanism of rare-earth metal doped polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. Here the crystal, electronic structures and magnetic characteristics of Sm-doped chrysene have been investigated by the first-principles calculation using the generalized gradient approximation (GGA) plus U method, also including van der Waals correction. We find that Sm-doped chrysene with C2/c space group is the most stable where doped Sm atoms stay on the relative middle of chrysene molecules. This material is stabilized at antiferromagnetic ground-state with the metallic feature. The calculated spin magnetic moment of Sm atom indicates that there are two electrons transferring from Sm to chrysene molecule. Within the framework of GGA+U, the C-2p electronic states mainly contribute to the Fermi surface. Electronic correlation effects are significant to understand the superconductivity in Sm-doped chrysene.

The emergence and development of two-dimensional (2D) materials has provided a new direction for enhancing the thermoelectric (TE) performance due to their unique structural, physical and chemical properties. However, the TE performance measurement of 2D materials is a long-standing challenge owing to the experimental difficulties of precise control in samples and high demand in apparatus. Until now, there is no universal methodology for measuring the dimensionless TE figure of merit (ZT) (the core parameter for evaluating TE performance) of 2D materials systematically in experiments. Raman spectroscopy, with its rapid and nondestructive properties for probing samples, is undoubtedly a powerful tool for characterizing 2D materials as it is known as a spectroscopic ‘Swiss-Army Knife’. Raman spectroscopy can be employed to measure the thermal conductivity of 2D materials and expected to be a systematic method in evaluating TE performance, boosting the development of thermoelectricity. In this review, thermoelectricity, 2D materials, and Raman techniques, as well as thermal conductivity measurements of 2D materials by Raman spectroscopy are introduced. The prospects of obtaining ZT and testing the TE performance of 2D materials by Raman spectroscopy in the future are also discussed.

Saponins are glycosides with triterpenoid or spirostane aglycones that demonstrate various pharmacological effects against mammalian diseases. To promote the research and development of anticancer agents from saponins, this review focuses on the anticancer properties of several typical naturally derived triterpenoid saponins (ginsenosides and saikosaponins) and steroid saponins (dioscin, polyphyllin, and timosaponin) isolated from Chinese medicines. These saponins exhibit in vitro and in vivo anticancer effects, such as anti-proliferation, anti-metastasis, anti-angiogenesis, anti-multidrug resistance, and autophagy regulation actions. In addition, related signaling pathways and target proteins involved in the anticancer effects of saponins are also summarized in this work.
