BackgroundThe high-quality development of manufacturing in China has spurred industrial transformation and upgrading, placing higher demands on the skills of employees in the electronic manufacturing industry. This situation may induce psychological health problems such as job burnout and depressive symptoms in the employees, and also lead to insomnia, which has become a public health problem that urgently needs attention and solution. ObjectiveTo investigate the relationship between job burnout, depressive symptoms, and insomnia among employees in the electronic manufacturing industry. MethodsA total of 3034 employees from four electronic manufacturing companies in Beijing City, Shanghai City, and Guangdong Province were selected using judgment sampling from September to November 2019. The Maslach Burnout Inventory-General Survey, Patient Health Questionnaire-9, and Self-Administered Sleep Questionnaire were used to collect data. The correlation between job burnout, depressive symptoms, and insomnia was evaluated by hierarchical regression. ResultsA total of 3034 survey questionnaires were distributed, and 2614 valid questionnaires were collected, with a response effectiveness rate of 86.2%. The reporting rates of job burnout, depressive symptoms, and insomnia among employees in the electronic manufacturing industry were 47.2%, 19.5%, and 29.1%, respectively. The reporting rates of insomnia of employees in the job burnout group and depressive symptoms group were higher than those in the non-job burnout group and non-depressive symptoms group (35.3% vs. 23.6%, 47.2% vs. 24.7%, P＜0.001). Abstract Background Mental health problems among adolescents are a common concern globally. However, its relationship with childhood trauma is not clearly understood from the existing studies. Therefore, this study aims to explore the relationships among childhood trauma, mental health, self-control, and internet addiction in Chinese vocational high school students. Methods A cross-sectional survey was conducted among vocational high school students in China from October 2020 to December 2020. Standardized questionnaires were used to collect basic information regarding childhood trauma, self-control, psychological state, and social demographics. A structural equation model was used to study the relationships among internet addiction, self-control, childhood trauma, and mental health. Results A total of 3368 individuals participated in the study. The results revealed the mediating effects of poor self-control and internet addiction on the association between childhood trauma and mental health. Conclusions Internet addiction and low self-control play mediating roles in childhood trauma and mental health. Clarifying these relationships will help formulate better-targeted interventions to improve the mental health of Chinese vocational high school students and aid in interventions to treat and prevent mental health problems.

ObjectiveTo evaluate the methodological, reporting and evidence quality of systematic reviews or meta-analyses of Janus kinases (JAK) inhibitors for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA).MethodsOur study systematically retrieved reviews from various databases, spanning from inception to June 2024. Two evaluators independently assessed the methodological, reporting, and evidence quality of each review using the AMSTAR-2 and PRIAMA2020 tools. The evidence quality was evaluated according to GRADE criteria. Six aspects were evaluated: publication year, study type, homogeneity, risk of publication bias, AMSTAR-2 methodology, and PRIAMA2020 reporting quality. Excel 2016 facilitated conversion of scores into radar plots.ResultsFollowing stringent selection criteria, a total of 18 relevant studies were identified. The AMSTAR-2 scores ranged from 4 to 13 points, with five studies rated as low quality and the remaining 13 as critically low quality. All studies encompassed populations, interventions, controls, and outcome measures, demonstrating commendable integrity. However, there is room for improvement in study protocol development and registration, comprehensive search strategies, inclusion and exclusion criteria, conflict of interest disclosure, and discussion of heterogeneity. PRIAMA2020 assessments ranged from 14.5 to 21 points, with two studies scoring below 15 points due to increased bias risk from data transformation and sensitivity analysis. Notably, all reviews (100%) adhered to PRIAMA2020 guidelines for certain items but none met all criteria. GRADE evaluation included 446 outcome measures, with 158 of moderate, 156 of low, and 132 of very low quality, indicating JAK inhibitors is effective in improving RA. According to radar chart, the average rank score was 13.13. One study achieved a balanced score across all dimensions, while 11 exceeded the average, five showed significant differences in PRIAMA2020 scores, and four in AMSTAR two scores.ConclusionDespite summarizing the efficacy and safety of JAK inhibitors in treating RA, the included studies exhibited poor methodological and reporting quality, along with low-quality evidence overall. Therefore, caution is warranted among decision-makers regarding the use of JAK inhibitors in RA treatment. Surface electromyography (sEMG) plays a significant role in the everyday practice of clinic hand function rehabilitation. The materials and design of current typical clinic sEMG electrodes are rigid Ag/AgCl or flexible polyimide (PI) film, which cannot provide a stable interface between electrodes and skin for adequate long-term high-quality data. Thus, conformal, soft, breathable, wireless epidermal sEMG sensor systems have broad potential relevance to clinic rehabilitation settings. Herein, we demonstrate a stretchable epidermal sEMG sensor array system with optimized materials and structure strategies for hand gesture recognition and hand function rehabilitation. The optimized serpentine structures with marvelous stretchability and improved fill ratio, provide lower impedance and high-quality sEMG signals. Moreover, the easy-to-use airhole method further ensures stable and long-term contact with the skin for recording. In addition, integrated with a customized flexible wireless data acquisition system, the capability for real-time 8-channel sEMG monitoring is developed, and taking together with the CNN-based algorithm, the system can automatically and reliably realize the 7 kinds of hand gestures with an accuracy of 81.02%. Moreover, the low-cost yet high-performance epidermal sEMG sensor system demonstrated its conceptual feasibility in quantitatively evaluation of stroke patient’s hand and facilitating human-robot collaboration in hand rehabilitation by proof-of-the-concept clinical testing.

Abstract Plasmaspheric density structures are considered to control the propagation trajectories of fast magnetosonic (MS) waves in the inner magnetosphere. However, whether the plasmaspheric plume can effectively alter the propagation of MS waves remains unknown. Based on the analytical model of plasma density, ray tracing simulations are performed to investigate the propagation of exactly perpendicular MS waves in the equatorial plane in the magnetosphere containing a plasmaspheric plume. We find that plasmatrough and plume MS waves propagating toward the plasmaspheric plume can be reflected into the plasmaspheric core by the plume, then potentially migrating globally and thus quasi‐trapped inside the plasmaspheric core. The simulations also indicate that lower‐frequency MS waves approaching the plasmaspheric plume are more easily reflected and quasi‐trapped inside the plasmaspheric core. Our findings illustrate a previously unexplored way that plasmatrough MS waves could access and be trapped inside the plasmaspheric core via azimuthal plasmaspheric density structures.

ObjectiveTo explore the mediating effect of depressive symptoms on occupational stress and work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs) in employees of petrochemical enterprises for developing intervention measures on WMSDs. MethodsTotally 4 066 employees were recruited with cluster sampling from a petrochemical enterprise in Jiangsu province for an online survey conducted during July – October 2021. Core Occupational Stress Scale (COSS), Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9)，and two questionnaire on demographics and WMSDs developed by Chinese researchers previously were used in the survey. Spearman rank correlation analysis was adopted to analyze the relationships between occupational stress, depression symptoms, and WMSDs; hierarchical regression analysis and bootstrap method were used to verify the mediating effect of depressive symptoms on the correlation between occupational stress and WMSDs. ResultsOf the 3 763 participants with valid responses, 2 934 (77.97%) were assessed as having WMSDs during past one year. The participants′ mean scores were 3.47 ± 3.17 on WMSDs and 10.04 ± 5.99 on depressive symptoms; the mean score on occupational stress was 45.79 ± 9.48, with the dimensional scores of 19.81 ± 3.75 on social support, 15.85 ± 4.94 on organization and reward, 12.35 ± 3.39 on demand and effort, and 4.62 ± 1.80 on autonomy, respectively. Spearman rank correlation analysis revealed following significant correlations among partici-pants′ scores on WMSDs, occupational stress and its dimensions, and depression symptoms: (1) positive correlations of WMSDs with overall occupational stress (r = 0.334), occupational stress dimensions of organization and reward (r = 0.284) and demand and effort (r = 0.202), and depression symptoms (r = 0.463) (P < 0.01 for all); (2) negative correlations of WMSDs with occupational stress dimensions of social support (r = – 0.256) and autonomy (r = – 0.141) (both P < 0.01); (3) positive correlations of depression symptoms with overall occupational stress (r = 0.621), occupational stress dimensions of organization and reward (r = 0.540) and demand and effort (r = 0.410) (P < 0.01 for all); (4) negative correlations of depression symptoms with social support (r = – 0.419) and autonomy (r = – 0.196) (both P < 0.01); (5) positive correlations of overall occupational stress with occupational stress dimensions of organization and reward (r = 0.848) and demand and effort (r = 0.639) (both P < 0.01); and (6) negative correlations of overall occupational stress with occupational stress dimensions of social support (r = – 0.648) and autonomy (r = – 0.310) (both P < 0.01). The results of mediating effect analysis showed that depressive symptoms had a partial mediating effect on the correlations of WMSDs with occupational stress dimensions of social support (effect value = – 0.137; confidence interval [CI]: –0.155, – 0.120; effect percentage = 72.87%) and demand and effort (effect value = 0.177; CI: 0.159, 0.196; effect percentage = 78.67%) but a complete mediating effect on the correlations of WMSDs with occupational stress dimensions of organization and reward (effect value = 0.146; CI: 0.131, 0.160; effect percentage = 90.12%) and autonomy (effect value = – 0.126; CI: – 0.158, – 0.094; effect percentage = 98.44%). ConclusionAmong the employees in a petrochemical enterprise in a province of China, the detection rate of WMSDs was high and depressive symptoms showed a mediating effect on the correlation of occupational stress with WMSDs, suggesting that the prevalence of WMSDs could be decreased through intervention on depression symptoms in the occupational population.

ObjectiveTo explore the prevalence and early health effects of occupational stress among employees in a petrochemical enterprise for providing evidence to the implementation of relevant interventions in the employees. MethodsAn online self-administered questionnaire survey was carried out among 4 066 working employees of a petrochemical enterprise in Nanjing, Jiangsu province during September – October 2021. The Core Occupational Stress Scale (COSS)， Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS)，the Five-Item World Health Organization Well-Being Index (WHO-5), Self-Administrated Sleep Questionnaire (SSQ)，and scales for fatigue accumulation and musculoskeletal disorders assessment were used in the survey. ResultsFor the 3 763 employees finally included in the analysis, 1 143 (30.4%) were assessed as having occupational stress. Among all the occupationally stressed employees, 607 (53.1%), 256 (22.4%), and 280 (24.5%) were judged as having mild, moderate, and severe occupational stress; the number (percentage) of the employees detected with abnormal conditions was 1 670 (44.4%) for depressive symptoms, 1 338 (35.6%) for anxiety symptoms, 2 016 (53.6%) for low life satisfaction, 1 548 (41.1%) for insomnia, 2 377 (63.2%) for fatigue accumulation, and 2 934 (78.0%) for musculoskeletal disorders, respectively. After adjusting for gender, age, education, marital status, average monthly income, job title, job type, working years of specific job type, weekly working hours, and work shift status，the results of unconditional multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that compared to those without occupational stress, the employees with occupational stress of different severity were at significantly increased risks of depressive symptoms (odds ratio [OR] = 3.582, 6.114 and 14.016 for the employees with mild, moderate or severe occupational stress), anxiety symptoms (OR = 4.268, 4.429 and 9.365), low life satisfaction (OR = 2.790, 2.896 and 7.849), insomnia symptoms (OR = 2.425, 3.033 and 5.218), fatigue accumulation (OR = 4.806,8.818 and 18.017), and musculoskeletal disorders (2.189, 2.381 and 4.367). ConclusionThe detection rate of occupational stress was relatively high and the stress exerted early adverse effects on health among employees of a petrochemical enterprise in Nanjing city .

Abstract Towards intracellular engineering of living organisms, the development of new biocompatible polymerization system applicable for an intrinsically non-natural macromolecules synthesis for modulating living organism function/behavior is a key step. Herein, we find that the tyrosine residues in the cofactor-free proteins can be employed to mediate controlled radical polymerization under 405 nm light. A proton-coupled electron transfer (PCET) mechanism between the excited-state TyrOH* residue in proteins and the monomer or the chain transfer agent is confirmed. By using Tyr-containing proteins, a wide range of well-defined polymers are successfully generated. Especially, the developed photopolymerization system shows good biocompatibility, which can achieve in-situ extracellular polymerization from the surface of yeast cells for agglutination/anti-agglutination functional manipulation or intracellular polymerization inside yeast cells, respectively. Besides providing a universal aqueous photopolymerization system, this study should contribute a new way to generate various non-natural polymers in vitro or in vivo to engineer living organism functions and behaviours.

BackgroundHealthcare workers suffer from great internal and external pressure and are prone to burnout. Existing studies have shown that depressive symptoms are important influencing factors of burnout, both of which are closely related to job stress.ObjectiveTo analyze overall prevalence of burnout among healthcare workers using a new survey tool developed by our team, and to reveal potential influencing factors related to burnout.MethodsA cross-sectional multi-center study was conducted in August–October 2019 and June–September 2020, using multi-stage stratified cluster sampling. A total of 8738 healthcare workers from 22 hospitals in 5 provinces (Shandong, Hubei, Hunan, Guangdong, and Chongqing) of China were selected in this study. A set of survey questionnaires, including the general information questionnaire and the Chinese versions of General Burnout Scale, Core Occupational Stress Scale, Patient Health Questionnaire-9, and Self-administered Sleep Questionnaire were distributed. Independent samples t-test or one-way ANOVA were employed for inter-group comparison of burnout. Spearman correlation was used to evaluate correlations among burnout, depressive symptoms, and occupational stress. Stepwise linear regression was conducted to identify factors independently associated with burnout. Process plug-in was used to test potential mediating effect of depressive symptoms on occupational stress and burnout.ResultsOf the 8738 questionnaires distributed, 8456 valid questionnaires were collected, and the recovery rate was 96.77%. Among the 8456 healthcare workers, the prevalence of burnout was 58.0%, that of occupational stress was 31.8%, and that of depressive symptoms was 31.0%. Among those with depressive symptoms and occupational stress, the proportions of burnout were 86.7% and 83.7%, respectively. According to the stepwise linear regression analysis, depressive symptoms, occupational stress, work experience, drinking, and marital status were all independent influencing factors of burnout. BackgroundAs one of the common tools for job burnout assessment, Maslach Burnout Inventory-General Survey (MBI-GS), its reliability and validity across different populations in China have not been examined yet.ObjectiveTo evaluate the reliability and validity of General Burnout Scale (GBS) by multiple occupational groups through the translation and preliminary test of MBI-GS.MethodsBased on the Special Project of Occupational Hazards in Key Populations led by the Institute of Occupational Health and Poison Control, China CDC, key occupational groups in five typical industries were selected by multi-stage stratified cluster sampling, including teachers, firefighters, manufacturing workers, medical staff, and traffic police. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was used to evaluate the construct validity of GBS by single-factor, two-factor, and three-factor structure models. The model fitness was assessed by ratio of the chi-square statistic to the respective degrees of freedom (χ2/ν), root mean square error of approximation (RMSEA), goodness-of-fit index (GFI), comparative fit index (CFI), and parsimony-adjusted non-normed fit index (PNFI). Spearman correlation analysis was used to calculate the criterion validity of GBS with occupational stress, depressive symptoms, and sleep disorders. Cronbach's α coefficient and composite reliability (CR) coefficient were used to evaluate the internal consistency reliability of GBS.ResultsA total of 3485 subjects were surveyed in this study, 3375 valid questionnaires were recovered with a valid response rate of 96.84%. The results of CFA showed that in the adjusted three-factor structure model of GBS (exhaustion, cynicism, and professional efficacy), the χ2/ν < 4, the RMSEA ranged from 0.032 to 0.069, the GFI > 0.90, the CFI > 0.90, and the PNFI > 0.70, which illustrated a good fitness than that of the single- or the two-factor structure models in different occupational groups. The Spearman correlation analysis results showed that occupational stress, depressive symptoms, and sleep disorders were positively correlated with exhaustion and cynicism dimensions, and negatively correlated with professional efficacy dimension of the GBS, with the \begin{document}$ \left| r \right| $\end{document} ranging from 0.139 to 0.662 (P0.05). The Cronbach's α coefficients ranged from 0.819 to 0.899, and the CR values ranged from 0.941 to 0.978 in different occupational groups.ConclusionThe GBS shows high reliability and validity, as well as good application effects in different occupational groups.

BackgroundManufacturing industry is the main body of China's national economy, and manufacturing employees provide solid guarantee and support for the vigorous development of China's manufacturing industry. The research on job burnout of manufacturing employees is helpful to prevent or alleviate the health damage and economic loss caused by job burnout. ObjectiveTo investigate the status and influencing factors of job burnout among manufacturing employees in China, and evaluate the potential mediating effect of job burnout between job stress and depressive symptoms. MethodsA cross-sectional study was performed from August to October 2019 and from June to September 2020 in seven provinces of China. Study participants were recruited from 21 manufacturing companies covering 11 manufacturing subdivisions using multistage stratified cluster sampling. General Burnout Scale, Core Occupational Stress Scale, and Patient Health Questionnaire-9 were used to evaluate job burnout, job stress, and depressive symptoms. Mann-Whitney U test and Kruskal-Wallis H test were used to compare data between two independent samples and multiple independent samples of measurement data; Pearson χ2 test was used to compare the rate of enumeration data; Spearman rank correlation analysis was used to evaluate correlation between selected variables; binary logistic regression was used for multivariate analysis; stepwise regression and bias-corrected Bootstrap method were used to test potential mediating effect. ResultsA total of 10973 valid questionnaires were collected. The M (P25, P75) scores of exhaustions, cynicism, professional efficacy, job burnout, job stress, and depressive symptoms were 1.6 (0.4, 3.0), 1.0 (0.2, 2.2), 4.8 (3.2, 5.7), 1.6 (0.8, 2.5), 45.0 (40.0, 50.0), and 7.0 (4.0, 11.0), respectively. The positive rates of job burnout, job stress, and depressive symptoms were 53.4% (5865/10973), 28.4% (3116/10973), and 29.4% (3231/10973), respectively. The influencing factors of job burnout were gender (versus male; OR for female=0.852), age (versus≤25 years old; ORs for 26-30, 31-40, 41-50, 51-60 years old=0.824, 0.819, 0.738, 0.677), education level (versus junior high school or below; ORs for senior high school/technical secondary school, junior college/vocational college, graduate school or above=1.119, 1.345, 1.331), income per month (versus＜3000 yuan; ORs for 3000-4999, 5000-6999, 7000-8999, 9000-10999, ≥11000 yuan=0.513, 0.470, 0.430, 0.375, 0.411), position (versus assembly line; OR for non-assembly line=0.814), average weekly working hours (versus ≤40 h; ORs for 61-70, ＞70 h=1.199, 1.519), and drinking (versus non-drinking; OR for drinking=1.261). Abstract Innate immunity represents one of the main host responses to viral infection.1–3 STING (Stimulator of interferon genes), a crucial immune adapter functioning in host cells, mediates cGAS (Cyclic GMP-AMP Synthase) sensing of exogenous and endogenous DNA fragments and generates innate immune responses.4 Whether STING activation was involved in infection and replication of enterovirus remains largely unknown. In the present study, we discovered that human enterovirus A71 (EV-A71) infection triggered STING activation in a cGAS dependent manner. EV-A71 infection caused mitochondrial damage and the discharge of mitochondrial DNA into the cytosol of infected cells. However, during EV-A71 infection, cGAS-STING activation was attenuated. EV-A71 proteins were screened and the viral protease 2Apro had the greatest capacity to inhibit cGAS-STING activation. We identified TRAF3 as an important factor during STING activation and as a target of 2Apro. Supplement of TRAF3 rescued cGAS-STING activation suppression by 2Apro. TRAF3 supported STING activation mediated TBK1 phosphorylation. Moreover, we found that 2Apro protease activity was essential for inhibiting STING activation. Furthermore, EV-D68 and CV-A16 infection also triggered STING activation. The viral protease 2Apro from EV-D68 and CV-A16 also had the ability to inhibit STING activation. As STING activation prior to EV-A71 infection generated cellular resistance to EV-A71 replication, blocking EV-A71-mediated STING suppression represents a new anti-viral target.

Abstract The off‐equatorial minimum‐B‐pocket (OEMBP) at high latitudes in the dayside outer magnetosphere is expected as another source region of the electrostatic electron cyclotron harmonic (ECH) waves, in addition to the magnetic equator. However, its crucial role in the excitation of the dayside ECH waves has never been directly investigated due to its spatiotemporal‐varying and difficulty to be located. Based on the observations from Magnetospheric Multiscale satellites, we statistically analyze the properties of dayside ECH waves by organizing them according to the latitude distance from the OEMBP located by the spatiotemporal‐varying geomagnetic field model. Such mapping confirms larger occurrence rates and electric field amplitudes of dayside ECH waves in the vicinity of the OEMBP, which gradually fall down nearby with the latitude distance increasing. Our results provide statistical evidence for the OEMBP as another source region of ECH waves besides the magnetic equator.

Fushi-tarazu factor 1 (FTZ-F1) is a class of transcription factors belonging to the nuclear receptor superfamily and an important molting regulator in insects; however, its detailed function in the molting process of Locusta migratoria is still unclear. This study identified two FTZ-F1 transcripts (LmFTZ-F1-X1 and LmFTZ-F1-X2) in L. migratoria. The classical domains of FTZ-F1 were present in their protein sequences and distinguished based on their variable N-terminal domains. Reverse-transcription quantitative polymerase chain reaction analysis revealed that LmFTZ-F1-X1 and LmFTZ-F1-X2 were highly expressed in the integument. RNA interference (RNAi) was used to explore the function of LmFTZ-F1s in the molting of the third-instar nymph. Separate LmFTZ-F1-X1 or LmFTZ-F1-X2 silencing did not affect the normal development of third-instar nymphs; however, the simultaneous RNAi of LmFTZ-F1-X1 and LmFTZ-F1-X2 caused the nymphs to be trapped in the third instar stage and finally die. Furthermore, the hematoxylin-eosin and chitin staining of the cuticle showed that the new cuticles were thickened after silencing the LmFTZ-F1s compared to the controls. RNA-seq analysis showed that genes encoding four cuticle proteins, two chitin synthesis enzymes, and cytochrome P450 303a1 were differentially expressed between dsGFP- and dsLmFTZ-F1s-injected groups. Taken together, LmFTZ-F1-X1 and LmFTZ-F1-X2 are involved in the ecdysis of locusts, possibly by regulating the expression of genes involved in cuticle formation, chitin synthesis, and other key molting processes.

Abstract Background Glioblastoma is one of the most common brain cancers in adults, and is characterized by recurrence and little curative effect. An effective treatment for glioblastoma patients remains elusive worldwide. 7-methylguanosine (m7G) is a common RNA modification, and its role in tumors has become a research hotspot. Methods By searching for differentially expressed genes related to m7G, we generated a prognostic signature via cluster analysis and established classification criteria of high and low risk scores. The effectiveness of classification was validated using the Non-negative matrix factorization (NMF) algorithm, and repeatedly verified using training and test groups. The dimension reduction method was used to clearly show the difference and clinical significance of the data. All analyses were performed via R (version 4.1.2). Results According to the signature that included four genes (TMOD2, CACNG2, PLOD3, and TMSB10), glioblastoma patients were divided into high and low risk score groups. The survival rates between the two groups were significantly different, and the predictive abilities for 1-, 3-, and 5-year survivals were effective. We further established a Nomogram model to further examine the signature,as well as other clinical factors, with remaining significant results. Our signature can act as an independent prognostic factor related to immune-related processes in glioblastoma. Conclusions Our research addresses the gap in knowledge in the m7G and glioblastoma research fields. The establishment of a prognostic signature and the extended analysis of the tumor microenvironment, immune correlation, and tumor mutation burden further suggest the important role of m7G in the development and development of this disease. This work will provide support for future research.

BackgroundRespiratory muscle ultrasound is a widely available, highly feasible technique that can be used to study the contribution of the individual respiratory muscles related to respiratory dysfunction. Stroke disrupts multiple functions, and the respiratory function is often significantly decreased in stroke patients.MethodA search of the MEDLINE, Web of Science, and PubMed databases was conducted. We identified studies measuring respiratory muscles in healthy and patients by ultrasonography. Two reviewers independently extracted and documented data regarding to the criteria. Data were extracted including participant demographics, ultrasonography evaluation protocol, subject population, reference values, etc.ResultA total of 1954 participants from 39 studies were included. Among them, there were 1,135 participants from 19 studies on diaphragm, 259 participants from 6 studies on extra-diaphragmatic inspiratory muscles, and 560 participants from 14 studies on abdominal expiratory muscles. The ultrasonic evaluation of diaphragm and abdominal expiratory muscle thickness had a relatively typically approach, while, extra-diaphragmatic inspiratory muscles were mainly used in ICU that lack of a consistent paradigm.ConclusionDiaphragm and expiratory muscle ultrasound has been widely used in the assessment of respiratory muscle function. On the contrary, there is not enough evidence to assess extra-diaphragmatic inspiratory muscles by ultrasound. In addition, the thickness of the diaphragm on the hemiplegic side was lower than that on the non-hemiplegic side in stroke patients. For internal oblique muscle (IO), rectus abdominis muscle (RA), transversus abdominis muscle (TrA), and external oblique muscle (EO), most studies showed that the thickness on the hemiplegic side was lower than that on the non-hemiplegic side.Clinical Trial Registration: The protocol of this review was registered in the PROSPERO database (CRD42022352901).

Rare data reported tacrolimus-induced liver injury (tac-DILI) in real world. We performed a nested case-control analysis of 1,010 renal transplant recipients. Recipients with tac-DILI were randomly matched at a ratio of 1:4 by the year of admission to the remaining recipients without tac-DILI to explore risk factors. The incidence of tac-DILI was 8.9% (95% CI = 7.2–10.7%). The most common type was cholestatic pattern (6.7%, 95% CI = 5.2–8.3%), followed by hepatocellular (1.6%, 95% CI = 0.8–2.4%) and mixed patterns (0.6%, 95% CI = 0.1–1.1%). 98.9% of recipients with tac-DILI have mild severity. The latency period were 42.0 (range, 21.5–99.8 days), 14.0 (range, 9.0–80.3 days), 16.0 (range, 11.5–24.5 days), and 49.0 days (range, 28.0–105.6 days) for total, hepatocellular, mixed, and cholestatic patterns, respectively. Baseline ALP level (OR = 1.015, 95% CI = 1.006–1.025, p = 0.002), age (OR = 0.971, 95% CI = 0.949–0.994, p = 0.006), and body weight (OR = 0.960, 95% CI = 0.940–0.982, p < 0.001) were independent risk factors. In conclusion, cholestatic pattern represents the most frequent type of tac-DILI. Young age, low body weight and abnormal baseline ALP level were risk factors.

Background and aimsAlthough COVID-19 vaccination is recommended for the patients with chronic liver disease, the clinical outcomes of COVID-19 vaccinated in patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB) has not been well characterized. The study aimed to explore the safety and specific antibody responses following COVID-19 vaccination among CHB patients.MethodsPatients with CHB were included. All patients were vaccinated with two doses of inactivated vaccine (CoronaVac) or three doses of adjuvanted protein subunit vaccine (ZF2001). The adverse events were recorded and neutralizing antibody (NAb) were determined 14 days following the whole-course vaccination.ResultsA total of 200 patients with CHB were included. Specific NAb against SARS-CoV-2 were positive in 170 (84.6%) patients. The median (IQR) concentrations of NAb were 16.32 (8.44–34.10) AU/ml. Comparison of immune responses between CoronaVac and ZF2001 vaccines showed no significant differences in neither the concentrations of NAb nor the seropositive rates (84.4 vs. 85.7%). Moreover, we observed lower immunogenicity in older patients and in patients with cirrhosis or underlying comorbidities. The incidences of adverse events were 37 (18.5%) with the most common adverse event as injection side pain [25 (12.5%)], followed by fatigue [15 (7.5%)]. There were no differences in the frequencies of adverse between CoronaVac and ZF2001 (19.3% vs. 17.6%). Almost all of the adverse reactions were mild and self-resolved within a few days after vaccination. Severe adverse events were not observed.ConclusionsCOVID-19 vaccines, CoronaVac and ZF2001 had a favorable safety profile and induced efficient immune response in patients with CHB.

The brain is among the most energetically costly organs in vertebrates, and thus trade-offs have been hypothesized to exert constraints on brain size evolution. The energy trade-off hypothesis (ETH) predicts that reducing the energy consumption of reproduction or other costly tissues should compensate for the cost of a large brain. Egg production in birds requires a large proportion of the total energy budget, and a clutch mass in some bird species can outweigh the body mass of the female. To date, this hypothesis has mainly been tested in mammals and ectothermic animals such as anurans and fishes. We collated data on adult brain size, body mass and egg-production traits such as clutch size, egg mass and annual broods from published studies, and conducted a phylogenetic comparative test of the interplay between egg-production investment and brain size evolution across bird species. After controlling for phylogenetic relationships and body size, we find a negative correlation between brain size and clutch size across 1395 species, which favored ETH. However, when egg mass was integrated in models, positive associations were detected between brain size and mass of eggs (via egg mass, clutch mass and annual total egg mass). Our results suggest that brain size trades off against egg-production only via certain aspects (e.g., clutch size). By contrast, a positive relationship between brain size and total egg reproduction (e.g., clutch mass and annual total egg mass) implied increased total energy budget outweighing energy allocation across bird species. Our study shows that there is no general energy trade-off between brain size and egg-reproduction investment, and suggests that brain size evolution follows mixed strategies across bird species.

ObjectiveAfter a stroke, patients usually suffer from dysfunction, such as decreased balance ability, and abnormal walking function. Whole-body vibration training can promote muscle contraction, stimulate the proprioceptive system, enhance the muscle strength of low limbs and improve motor control ability. The study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of whole-body vibration training on the balance and walking function of patients with stroke.MethodsPubMed, CNKI, VIP, CBM, EBSCO, Embase and Web of Science were searched. According to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, randomized controlled trials on the effectiveness of whole-body vibration training on the balance and walking function of patients with stroke were collected. The search time ranged from the date of database construction to November 2022. The included trials were evaluated by the Cochrane risk-of-bias tool. The meta-analysis was performed using two software packages, consisting of RevMan 5.4 and Stata 12.2. If the results included in the literature were continuous variables, use the mean difference (MD) and 95% confidence interval (CI) for statistics.Results(1) A total of 22 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) with a total of 1089 patients were included. (2) The results of meta-analysis showed that: compared with the controls, step length (MD = 6.12, 95%CI [5.63, 6.62], p < 0.001), step speed (MD = 0.14, 95%CI [0.09, 0.20], p < 0.001), cadence (MD = 9.03, 95%CI [2.23, 15.83], p = 0.009), stride length (MD = 6.74, 95%CI [−3.47, 10.01], p < 0.001), Berg Balance Scale (BBS) (MD = 4.08, 95%CI [2.39, 5.76], p < 0.001), Timed Up-and-Go test (TUGT) (MD = −2.88, 95%CI [−4.94, 0.81], p = 0.006), 10-meter Walk Test (10MWT) (MD = −2.69, 95%CI [−3.35, −2.03], p < 0.001), functional ambulation category scale (FAC) (MD = 0.78, 95%CI [0.65, 0.91], p < 0.001), Fugl-Meyer motor assessment of lower extremity (FMA-LE) (MD = 4.10, 95%CI [2.01, 6.20], p = 0.0001). (3) The results of subgroup analysis showed that, compared with other vibration frequencies, at 20–30 Hz frequency, WBV training had an obvious improvement effect only in TUGT. (4) The safety analysis showed that WBV training may be safe.ConclusionWhole-body vibration training has a positive effect on the balance and walking function of patients with stroke. SERINC5 is a multi-span transmembrane protein that is incorporated into HIV-1 particles in producing cells and inhibits HIV-1 entry. Multiple retroviruses like HIV-1, equine infectious anemia virus and murine leukemia virus are subject to SERINC5 inhibition, while HIV-1 pseudotyped with envelope glycoproteins of vesicular stomatitis virus and Ebola virus are resistant to SERINC5. The antiviral spectrum and the underlying mechanisms of SERINC5 restriction are not completely understood. Here we show that SERINC5 inhibits influenza A virus infection by targeting virus-cell membrane fusion at an early step of infection. Further results show that different influenza hemagglutinin (HA) subtypes exhibit diverse sensitivities to SERINC5 restriction. Analysis of the amino acid sequences of influenza HA1 strains indicates that HA glycosylation sites correlate with the sensitivity of influenza HA to SERINC5, and the inhibitory effect of SERINC5 was lost when certain HA glycosylation sites were mutated. Our study not only expands the antiviral spectrum of SERINC5, but also reveals the role of viral envelope glycosylation in resisting SERINC5 restriction.

Abstract Background In China, long working hours and insomnia are relatively common among internet company employees. Considering that both can affect mental health, we examined their independent and interaction effects on these employees’ depressive symptoms (DS). Methods We analyzed data from the 2016 occupational health questionnaire survey conducted in 35 large-, medium-, and small-scale internet companies. Overall, 3589 full-time employees were recruited to evaluate the association among working hours, insomnia, and DS. The Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) was used to assess DS. The association of DS (PHQ-9 ≥ 10) with working hours (≤40, 41–50, 51–60, and > 60 h/week), insomnia (with or without), and interaction of both was estimated using multivariable logistic regression analysis. Results Compared with the group working for ≤40 h/week, the adjusted odds ratios (ORs) for DS among participants who worked for 41–50 h/week, 51–60 h/week, and > 60 h/week were 1.32 (1.11–1.56), 1.74 (1.35–2.24), and 2.54 (1.90–3.39), respectively. The ORs for DS among those with insomnia were 2.36 (2.04–2.74) after adjusting for general characteristics. The ORs for DS related to insomnia were similar [1.91 (1.46–2.50), 2.00 (1.61–2.50), respectively] in the participants who worked for 60 h/week, the adjusted ORs for DS substantially increased to 4.62 (2.90–7.37) and 5.60 (3.36–9.33), respectively. Moreover, among the participants with insomnia, working overtime showed a greater association with DS. Conclusions We showed that long working hours and insomnia are independent factors associated with the prevalence of DS; furthermore, an interaction effect of long working hours and insomnia on DS was observed. For relieving DS in internet company employees, it is important to reduce insomnia.

Purpose: This study aims to illustrate the cellular landscape in the aorta of experimental aortic dissection (AD) and elaborate on the smooth muscle cells (SMCs) heterogeneity and functions among various cell types.Methods: Male Apolipoprotein deficient (ApoE−/−) mice at 28 weeks of age were infused with Ang II (2,500 ng/kg/min) to induce AD. Aortas from euthanized mice were harvested after 7 days for 10×Genomics single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq), followed by the identification of cell types and differentially expressed genes (DEGs). Gene Ontology (GO) enrichment and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) analysis was conducted.Results: AD was successfully induced in ApoE−/− mice. scRNA-seq identified 15 cell clusters and nine cell types, including non-immune cells (endothelials, fibroblasts, and SMCs) and immune cells (B cells, natural killer T cell, macrophages, dendritic cells, neutrophils, and mast cells). The relative numbers of SMCs were remarkably changed, and seven core DEGs (ACTA2,IL6,CTGF,BGN,ITGA8,THBS1, and CDH5) were identified in SMCs. Moreover, we found SMCs can differentiate into 8 different subtypes through single-cell trajectory analysis.Conclusion: scRNA-seq technology can successfully identify unique cell composition in experimental AD. To our knowledge, this is the first study that provided the complete cellular landscape in AD tissues from mice, seven core DEGs and eight subtypes of SMCs were identified, and the SMCs have evolution from matrix type to inflammatory type.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) vaccines provide essential tools for the control of the COVID-19 pandemic. A number of technologies have been employed to develop SARS-CoV-2 vaccines, including the inactivated SARS-CoV-2 particles, mRNA to express viral spike protein, recombinant spike proteins, and viral vectors. Here, we report the use of the vaccinia virus Tiantan strain as a vector to express the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein. When it was used to inoculate mice, robust SARS-CoV-2 spike protein-specific antibody response and T-cell response were detected. Sera from the vaccinated mice showed strong neutralizing activity against the ancestral Wuhan SARS-CoV-2, the variants of concern (VOCs) B.1.351, B.1.617.2, and the emerging B.1.1.529 (omicron). This finding supports the possibility of developing a new type of SARS-CoV-2 vaccine using the vaccinia virus vector.

Abstract This paper focuses on the stochastically exponential synchronization problem for one class of neural networks with time-varying delays (TDs) and Markov jump parameters (MJPs). To derive a tighter bound of reciprocally convex quadratic terms, we provide an improved reciprocally convex combination inequality (RCCI), which includes some existing ones as its particular cases. We construct an eligible stochastic Lyapunov–Krasovskii functional to capture more information about TDs, triggering signals, and MJPs. Based on a well-designed event-triggered control scheme, we derive several novel stability criteria for the underlying systems by employing the new RCCI and other analytical techniques. Finally, we present two numerical examples to show the validity of our methods.

CRISPR-Cas provides bacteria and archaea with immunity against invading phages and foreign plasmid DNA and has been successfully adapted for gene editing in a variety of species. The class 2 type VI CRISPR-Cas effector Cas13a targets and cleaves RNA, providing protection against RNA phages. Here we report the repurposing of CRISPR-Cas13a to inhibit human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) infection through targeting HIV-1 RNA and diminishing viral gene expression. We observed strong inhibition of HIV-1 infection by CRISPR-Cas13a in human cells. We showed that CRISPR-Cas13a not only diminishes the level of newly synthesized viral RNA, either from the transfected plasmid DNA or from the viral DNA, which is integrated into cellular DNA, but it also targets and destroys the viral RNA that enters cells within viral capsid, leading to strong inhibition of HIV-1 infection. Together, our results suggest that CRISPR-Cas13a provides a potential novel tool to treat viral diseases in humans.

Long interspersed element type 1 (LINE-1, also L1 for short) is the only autonomously transposable element in the human genome. Its insertion into a new genomic site may disrupt the function of genes, potentially causing genetic diseases. Cells have thus evolved a battery of mechanisms to tightly control LINE-1 activity. Here, we report that a cellular antiviral protein, myxovirus resistance protein B (MxB), restricts the mobilization of LINE-1. This function of MxB requires the nuclear localization signal located at its N-terminus, its GTPase activity and its ability to form oligomers. We further found that MxB associates with LINE-1 protein ORF1p and promotes sequestration of ORF1p to G3BP1-containing cytoplasmic granules. Since knockdown of stress granule marker proteins G3BP1 or TIA1 abolishes MxB inhibition of LINE-1, we conclude that MxB engages stress granule components to effectively sequester LINE-1 proteins within the cytoplasmic granules, thus hindering LINE-1 from accessing the nucleus to complete retrotransposition. Thus, MxB protein provides one mechanism for cells to control the mobility of retroelements. Author summary Retrotransposons occupy more than 40% of human genome, and have co-evolved with humans for millions of years. Long interspersed element type 1 (LINE-1, or L1) is the only retrotransposon that is able to jump to a new locus. LINE-1 retrotransposition causes genome instability, and is associated with genetic diseases including autoimmune diseases and cancer. To suppress this genome toxicity caused by LINE-1, humans have developed multi-layered mechanisms to control LINE-1 activity. MxB has been previously shown to inhibit LINE-1 mobility, thus contributing to host restriction of LINE-1. Here, we further demonstrate that MxB effectively restricts LINE-1 retrotransposition by sequestering LINE-1 ribonucleoprotein (RNP) within the cytoplasmic stress granules, thus guards genome stability. Hence our data attribute the restriction function of MxB to sequestering LINE-1 RNP to stress granules.

Doxorubicin (DOX) is an anthracycline antibiotic that is used extensively for the management of carcinoma; however, its clinical application is limited due to its serious cardiotoxic side effects. Ferroptosis represents iron-dependent and reactive oxygen species (ROS)-related cell death and has been proven to contribute to the progression of DOX-induced cardiomyopathy. Fisetin is a natural flavonoid that is abundantly present in fruits and vegetables. It has been reported to exert cardioprotective effects against DOX-induced cardiotoxicity in experimental rats. However, the underlying mechanisms remain unknown. The present study investigated the cardioprotective role of fisetin and the underlying molecular mechanism through experiments in the DOX-induced cardiomyopathy rat and H9c2 cell models. The results revealed that fisetin treatment could markedly abate DOX-induced cardiotoxicity by alleviating cardiac dysfunction, ameliorating myocardial fibrosis, mitigating cardiac hypertrophy in rats, and attenuating ferroptosis of cardiomyocytes by reversing the decline in the GPX4 level. Mechanistically, fisetin exerted its antioxidant effect by reducing the MDA and lipid ROS levels and increasing the glutathione (GSH) level. Moreover, fisetin exerted its protective effect by increasing the SIRT1 expression and the Nrf2 mRNA and protein levels and its nuclear translocation, which resulted in the activation of its downstream genes such as HO-1 and FTH1. Selective inhibition of SIRT1 attenuated the protective effects of fisetin in the H9c2 cells, which in turn decreased the GSH and GPX4 levels, as well as Nrf2, HO-1, and FTH1 expressions. In conclusion, fisetin exerts its therapeutic effects against DOX-induced cardiomyopathy by inhibiting ferroptosis via SIRT1/Nrf2 signaling pathway activation.

BackgroundLymph node negative (N0) breast cancer can be found coexisting with distant metastasis (DM), which might consequently make clinicians underestimate the risk of relapse and insufficient treatment for this subpopulation.MethodsThe clinicopathological characteristics of N0 breast cancer patients from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database between January 2010 and December 2015 were retrospectively reviewed. Multivariate logistic and Cox analyses were used to identify independent risk factors in promoting DM and the 1-, 3-, and 5- year cancer-specific survival (CSS) in this subpopulation.ResultSeven factors including age (10 mm), race (Black), location (central), grade (poor differentiation), histology (invasive lobular carcinoma), and subtype (luminal B and Her-2 enriched) were associated with DM, and the area under curve (AUC) was 0.776 (95% CI: 0.763–0.790). Moreover, T1-3N0M1 patients with age >60 years at diagnosis, Black race, triple-negative breast cancer subtype, no surgery performed, and multiple DMs presented a worse 1-, 3-, and 5-year CSS. The areas under the ROC for 1-, 3-, and 5- year CSS in the training cohort were 0.772, 0.741, and 0.762, respectively, and 0.725, 0.695, and 0.699 in the validation cohort.ConclusionThe clinicopathological characteristics associated with the risk of DM and the prognosis of female breast cancer patients without lymph node metastasis but with DM are determined. A novel nomogram for predicting 1-, 3-, 5- year CSS in T1-3N0M1 patients is also well established and validated, which could help clinicians better stratify patients who are at a high-risk level for receiving relatively aggressive management.

Chlorine (Cl) is indispensable for the growth of plants. While rarely systematic reports are available for the effect of Cl-containing fertilizers on citrus production. This study aimed to investigate the impacts of various Cl-containing fertilizers on the nutrients in the leaves, the yield and quality of sweet orange, and the Cl migration in the plant–soil–leaching system. A 5-year field experiment (2016–2020) with five Cl treatments (0, 75, 150, 450, and 900 kg ha−1), and soil core lysimeter test with five Cl levels (0, 150, 225, 300, and 450 kg ha−1) were carried out. The results showed that 77.0% of Cl leached into above 60 cm deeper soil layer, with calcium as the main accompanying ions, resulting in less Cl being absorbed by the citrus plants. The content of Cl in the leaves and soil was enhanced by the increasing input of Cl-containing fertilizer, without yearly increased characteristics, under a mean annual rainfall of 1,474 mm. Chlorine significantly increased the yield (13.24–37.8 9%), fruit weight, and vitamin C (Vc), in addition to enhancing the flavor and the juice yield of sweet orange via improving the absorption of N and K. Moreover, the long-term application of potassium sulfate has elevated the accumulation of sulfur in the soil and in leaves; it is becoming a potential risk factor for citrus production. Taken together, the application of Cl-containing fertilizer in sweet orange is feasible, and trace absorbance of Cl could improve the yield and fruit quality of sweet orange.

Cancer precision medicine (CPM) could tailor the best treatment for individual cancer patients, while imaging techniques play important roles in its application. With the characteristics of noninvasion, nonionized, radiation-free, multidimensional imaging function, and real-time monitoring, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is an effective way for early tumor detection, and it has become a tower of strength in CPM imaging techniques. Due to linkage with nephrogenic systemic fibrosis (NSF), gadolinium (Gd)-based contrast agent (CA), which was long used in MRI, has been restricted by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). In this review, we would like to introduce the manganese (Mn)-based CAs that could significantly increase the safety of MRI CAs by realizing more superior performance and functions simultaneously in the diagnosis and treatment of tumors. Also, recent advances in Mn-based hybrid nanomaterials for CPM are summarized and discussed.

Building an aging-friendly city is necessary, considering the unprecedented demographic shift of the aging population. It is necessary to study the built environment conditions surrounding the elderly’s residential areas. This study examines the density, diversity, and design (3D) features around the two typical elderly communities, which are community-based care and the nursing home. Then, the equity analysis is conducted from the social and spatial perspective. We use the 3D framework to measure the built environment around elderly communities. The essential features of an aging-friendly community are used to assess the built environment around the elderly communities. Moreover, we analyze the social and spatial equity of the elderly communities from the facility level and the town level. From the facility level, the 3D features of the elderly communities and the whole communities are compared to identify the social disparity among groups. From the town level, the average values of the 3D features are aggregated to each town, and then the attribute values of the towns are compared to reveal the spatial gaps and spatial mismatch areas. Results found that the spatial distributions of the 3D features around elderly communities present the center-periphery patterns. This study also found that a social disparity exists between the elderly communities and the whole communities. Moreover, there is a spatial mismatch between the diversity of facilities, road connections, and the number of elderly. Towns located in the fringe area are with a high number of elderly, but with a low diversity and road connections. The findings of this study can help planners and decision-makers to optimize the living facilities for old people and inform the gap in planning an aging-friendly city.

Due to long-term excessive fertilization, the fruit quality of the Guanxi pomelo (Citrus grandis) has been declining. The classification of fruit quality and its relationship with nutrients in soils and trees were studied to declaim the characteristics of nutrients in Guanxi pomelo orchards, ultimately guiding the fertilization for high-quality fruit production. By cluster analysis, 281 samples were grouped into four clusters. High-quality fruit (HF) showed a gourd shape with moderate weight size, high sweetness, edible rate (ER) up to 73%, and vitamin C content over 40 mg/100 g. Compared to sub-quality fruit (SF), common fruit (CF), and inferior fruit (IF), the content of magnesium (Mg) in the leaves of HF was 11.76, 11.76, and 18.75% higher, while the content of iron (Fe) was 6.45, 5.76 and 10.97% higher, respectively. Meanwhile, the contents of Zinc (Zn, 8.51, 6.44, and 11.22% higher than SF, CF, and IF, respectively) and Boron (B, 13.47, 13.83, and 25.40% higher than SF, CF, and IF, respectively) were also found to increase. However, the contents of Mn (35.34, 27.51, and 25.53% higher) and Cu (31.90, 31.99, and 5.64% higher) in IF were significantly higher than in HF, SF, and CF. Acid soils (4.24–4.40) with low OM content (23.00–26.71 g kg−1) led to an imbalance uptake of nutrients of citrus, ultimately resulting in poor quality. These results indicated that farmers should reduce the application of nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and K fertilizer and pesticides and increase micronutrient and organic fertilizer, which provides a theoretical basis for scientific fertilization to improve the fruit quality of Guanxi pomelo (Citrus grandis) of Pinghe County.

Background: A variety of functional disorders can be caused after stroke, among which impairment of respiratory function is a frequent and serious complication of stroke patients. The aim of this study was to examine diaphragmatic function after stroke by diaphragm ultrasonography and then to apply to explore its correlation with extremity motor function and balance function of the hemiplegia patients. Methods: This cross-sectional observational study recruited 48 hemiplegic patients after stroke and 20 matched healthy participants. The data of demographic and ultrasonographic assessment of all healthy subjects were recorded, and 45 patients successfully underwent baseline data assessment in the first 48 h following admission, including post-stroke duration, stroke type, hemiplegia side, pipeline feeding, pulmonary infection, ultrasonographic assessment for diaphragm, Fugl–Meyer Motor Function Assessment Scale (FMA Scale), and Berg Balance Scale assessment. Ultrasonographic assessment parameters included diaphragm mobility under quiet and deep breathing, diaphragm thickness at end-inspiratory and end-expiratory, and calculated thickening fraction of the diaphragm. The aim was to analyze the diaphragm function of hemiplegic patients after stroke and to explore its correlation with extremity motor function and balance function. Results: The incidence of diaphragmatic dysfunction under deep breath was 46.67% in 45 hemiplegia patients after stroke at the convalescent phase. The paralyzed hemidiaphragm had major impairments, and the mobility of the hemiplegic diaphragm was significantly reduced during deep breathing (p < 0.05). Moreover, the thickness fraction of hemiplegic side was extremely diminished when contrasted with the healthy control and non-hemiplegic side (p < 0.05). We respectively compared the diaphragm mobility under deep breath on the hemiplegic and non-hemiplegic side of patients with left and right hemiplegia and found there was no significant difference between the hemiplegic side of right and left hemiplegia (p > 0.05), but the non-hemiplegic side of right hemiplegia was significantly weaker than that of left hemiplegia patients (p < 0.05). The diaphragm mobility of stroke patients under quiet breath was positively correlated with age and FMA Scale score (R2 = 0.296, p < 0.05), and significant positive correlations were found between the diaphragm mobility under deep breath and Berg Balance Scale score (R2 = 0.11, p < 0.05), diaphragm thickness at end-inspiratory and FMA Scale score (R2 = 0.152, p < 0.05), and end-expiratory thickness and FMA Scale score (R2 = 0.204, p < 0.05). Conclusions: The mobility and thickness fraction of the hemiplegic diaphragm after stroke by diaphragm ultrasonography were significantly reduced during deep breathing. Diaphragm mobility on bilateral sides of the right hemiplegia patients were reduced during deep breathing. Moreover, the hemiplegic diaphragmatic function was positively correlated with extremity motor and balance function of the hemiplegia patients.

China’s development zones have been enjoying a process of dramatic growth and restructuring since the start of the new millennium, which has been extensively documented in the literature. The growth stems from the increased scope and expansion in demand created by China’s economic growth, as well as gradual global economic reconfiguration, which has, in itself, become a factor in advancing the country’s spiraling economic growth. This article examines the trajectory of the growth and restructuring of China’s development zones since 1984, by reviewing critical policies and their measures and effects, as well as academic research in this field, focusing on transitional stages, features and mechanisms. Based on different academic viewpoints, the work sets out a three-pronged conceptual framework composed of institutional transition, industrial evolution and land use transformation to systematize the growth process. In recent years, the restructuring of development zones has come to be considered as a comprehensive and complex issue, and its main challenges arise from factors such as overcoming outdated institutional arrangements, strengthening market participation, promoting high-end industrial agglomeration and breaking the bottleneck of inefficient land use. This article uses a multi-dimensional, logical approach to address the growth of development zones, and examines relevant practices and studies so as to explore the deeply rooted correlations between different dimensions in more depth and to examine the innate and unchanged logic involved in the restructuring of development zones.

Abstract Background Empty follicle syndrome (EFS) is a rare but severe condition in which no oocyte is recovered in female patients undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF) after sufficient ovarian response to hormonal trigger. Accumulating evidence highlights the genetic basis of EFS occurrence. Methods In this study, we report a patient with primary infertility showing the characteristics of EFS from a consanguineous family. Under the treatment of assisted reproductive technique (ART), no oocyte was retrieved following the aspiration of mature follicles. Through whole‐exome sequencing (WES), we discovered a novel recessively transmitted mutation in ZP1 (c.769 C>T, p. Q257*). Results In vitro Co‐immunoprecipitation assays showed that mutant ZP1 protein failed to interact with either ZP2 or ZP3, which explains the degenerated oocytes in the patient with EFS. Conclusion Together, our data further expand the spectrum of ZP1 mutations that are associated with human EFS and thus provide novel insight into the diagnosis of EFS patients.

This paper focuses on the exponential stabilization problem for Markov jump neural networks with Time-varying Delays (TDs). Firstly, we provide a new Free-matrix-based Exponential-type Integral Inequality (FMEII) containing the information of attenuation exponent, which is helpful to reduce the conservativeness of stability criteria. To further save control cost, we introduce a sample-based Adaptive Event-triggered Impulsive Control (AEIC) scheme, in which the trigger threshold is adaptively varied with the sampled state. By fully considering the information about sampled state, TDs, and Markov jump parameters, a suitable Lyapunov–Krasovskii functional is constructed. With the virtue of FMEII and AEIC scheme, some novel stabilization criteria are presented in the form of linear matrix inequalities. At last, two numerical examples are given to show the validity of the obtained results.

Taking the Suiqi coalfield located in North China as the object, where the coal seam burial depth is more than 1100 m, the water abundance of the roof pore thermal storage aquifer is better than average, the ground temperature is abnormally high, and hydrogeological data are relatively lacking, this paper selects and determines eight index factors that influence the mining of the coalfield. Based on the analytic hierarchy process (AHP), the index factor weight is defined, and then, the threat degree of the roof thermal storage aquifer to the coal mining is quantitatively evaluated and divided by using the fuzzy variable set theory. The evaluation results show that the threat degree of the roof in the eastern region is generally greater than that in the western region and that the closer it is to the coal seam outcrop line, the higher the threat degree is; near the boreholes, in the areas Qs1,Qs5, Qs8, Sx1, Tk5, Zc4, and Zc7, which are close to the hidden outcrop line of the coal seam, the classification characteristic value of the threat degree is greater than 3.5, which is in the high-threat zone for disasters caused by roof thermal storage aquifers during coal seam mining. The area above the medium-threat zone accounts for 71.82% of the total study area, indicating that deep coal mining is affected by multiple factors and that roof water and heat disasters are more likely to occur.

The research of aggregation-induced emission (AIE) has been growing rapidly for the design of highly luminescent materials, as exemplified by the library of AIE-active materials (or AIEgens) fabricated and explored for diverse applications in different fields. Herein, we reported a relay luminescence enhancement of luminescent Au nanoclusters (Au NCs) through AIE. In addition, we demonstrated the emergence of reduced aggregation-caused luminescence by adjusting the temperature of the Au NC solution. The key to induce this effect is to attach a thermosensitive polymer poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAAm) on the surface of Au NCs, which will shrink at high temperature. More interestingly, the as-synthesized Au NCs-PNIPAAm can self-assemble into vesicles, resulting in an obvious decrease in the luminescence intensity in aqueous solution. The combination of relay luminescence enhancement (by AIE) and luminescence decrease (induced by thermosensitive polymers) will be beneficial to the understanding and manipulation of the optical properties of Au NCs, paving the way for their practical applications.

Abstract Background Pollen Typhae Carbonisata (PTC) is a type of calcined herb drug that has been used as a hemostatic medicine to promote hemostasis for thousands of years. In this study, we discovered and separated novel water-soluble carbon quantum dots (CQDs, named PTC-CQDs) from aqueous extracts of PTC. These PTC-CDs were characterized using transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and high-resolution TEM, as well as Fourier transform infrared, ultraviolet–visible, and fluorescence spectroscopy. Then, we assessed the anti-hemorrhagic effects and related hemostatic mechanisms of the obtained PTC-CQDs. Results The PTC-CQDs separated from PTC are spherical, monodisperse, and have a narrow size distribution between 2 and 8 nm. In the pharmacology experiment, remarkable anti-hemorrhage effects of PTC-CQDs were revealed. Additionally, the rats showed a profound decrease in activated partial thromboplastin time and increase in fibrinogen and PLT after PTC-CQDs treatment. Conclusions These results indicated the explicit hemostasis effect of PTC-CQDs, which not only provided a new idea for the material research of PTC, but have also provided new insights into potential biomedical and healthcare applications of CQDs in the field of haemorrhage control and laid a solid foundation for future drug discovery.

In this study, limestone solubility, rock thickness, burial depth, hydrodynamic cycle, and geological tectonic of mine No. 13 in the Pingdingshan coalfield (China) were selected to evaluate the degree of karst development. The weight of each index factor to the karst development was determined by using the improved analytic hierarchy process. The multidimensional extensional matter model was used to determine the degree of karst development of the four mining areas (named 1st to 4th) of the Pingdingshan mine No. 13. The results show that the degree of karst development differs zonally, with 1st and 2nd mining areas presenting the lowest degree of karst development (grade II-IV, for an average quantification value of 3.0) and 4th mining area having the highest degree (grade IV-V, for an average quantification value of 4.7). In the vertical direction, the development degree of the vertical layer L1-L4 karst in the Carboniferous Taiyuan Formation is grade IV-V, with an average quantitative value of 4.5, whereas the layers L5-L7 in the Taiyuan Formation had a III-V grade, with an average quantitative value of 3.75, and the Cambrian limestone grade was II-IV, for an average quantitative value of 2.75, i.e., the development degree of karst gradually decreases from shallow to deep.

The influence of soil fumigation on microorganisms involved in transforming nitrogen remains little understood, despite the use of fumigants for many decades to control soil-borne pathogens and plant-parasitic nematodes. We used real-time PCR (quantitative polymerase chain reaction) and 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing techniques to monitor changes in the diversity and community structure of microorganisms associated with nitrogen transfer after the soil was fumigated with dazomet (DZ). We also examined nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions from these microorganisms present in fumigated fluvo-aquic soil and lateritic red soil. Fumigation with DZ significantly reduced the abundance of 16S rRNA and nitrogen cycling functional genes (nifH, AOA amoA, AOB amoA, nxrB, narG, napA, nirK, nirS, cnorB, qnorB, and nosZ). At the same time, N2O production rates increased between 9.9 and 30 times after fumigation. N2O emissions were significantly correlated with NH4+, dissolved amino acids and microbial biomass nitrogen, but uncorrelated with functional gene abundance. Diversity indices showed that DZ temporarily stimulated bacterial diversity as well as caused a significant change in bacterial community composition. For example, DZ significantly decreased populations of N2-fixing bacteria Mesorhizobium and Paenibacillus, nitrifiers Nitrosomonas, and the denitrifiers Bacillus, Pseudomonas, and Paracoccus. The soil microbial community had the ability to recover to similar population levels recorded in unfumigated soils when the inhibitory effects of DZ fumigation were no longer evident. The microbial recovery rate, however, depended on the physicochemical properties of the soil. These results provided useful information for environmental safety assessments of DZ in China, for improving our understanding of the N-cycling pathways in fumigated soils, and for determining the potential responses of different N-cycling groups after fumigation.

Oils extracted from the leaves of Eupatorium adenophorum were tested in vitro and in vivo against the soilborne pathogen Pythium myriotylum which causes soft rot, a devastating disease of commercial ginger production in China. Twelve compounds accounting for 99.15% of the total oil composition were identified by GC-MS. The major components were 10Hβ-9-oxo-agerophorone (37.03%), 10Hα-9-oxo-agerophorone (37.73%) and 9-oxo-10, 11-dehydro-agerophorone (23.41%). Antifungal activity was tested by the poisoned food technique against P. myriotylum, indicating minimum inhibitory concentrations of 100μg/ml after 7 days incubation. In addition, the oil extracts greatly inhibited the formation of both wet and dry mycelial biomass. The combination of E. adenophorum oil extracts and synthetic fungicides showed a strong synergistic effect, inhibiting the mycelial growth in in vitro assays. The synergistic effect of oil extracts with fungicides could allow fungicides to be used at reduced rates in the future which has environmental advantages. Oil extracts applied at 160 and 200μg/ml concentrations to ginger rhizomes before inoculation with P. myriotylum significantly reduced the infection rate in ginger. Examination by light and transmission electron microscopy revealed that oil extracts caused swelling of the hyphae, disruption of the cell wall, degradation of the cytoplasmic organelles and shortening of the cytoplasmic inclusion. These results suggested that the plasma membrane and endomembrane systems of P. myriotylum were severely damaged by the oil extracts of E. adenophorum which offer significant potential for use as a fungicide to control P. myriotylum.
