Abstract Objective This study aims to review and summarize the ultrasound characteristics of alveolar soft part sarcoma (ASPS) in children. Methods We retrospectively analyzed 20 pediatric ASPS cases confirmed by surgery or biopsy at our hospital between January 2014 and January 2024. Clinical data, including age, sex, symptoms, and tumor location, were collected. Ultrasound reports and images were reviewed to extract data on tumor size, boundaries, echogenicity, and vascularity. Results The study included 20 children with ASPS. The tumors were located in the trunk and limbs (50%), as well as in the head and neck (50%). Compared with tumors in the trunk and limbs, head and neck tumors were smaller in size, had more pronounced symptoms, and had a lower incidence of metastasis. Ultrasound features predominantly included hypoechoic masses with clear boundaries, heterogeneous echogenicity, and rich internal and surrounding vascularity, often with tortuous and dilated blood vessels. Eight patients had distant metastases at diagnosis, seven of which involved the lungs. There was a moderate correlation between tumor size and the risk of distant metastasis (r = 0.64). Conclusion Understanding the clinical and ultrasound characteristics of pediatric ASPS can facilitate earlier and more accurate diagnosis.

Abstract Background Neonatal appendicitis is a rare but critical condition that presents diagnostic challenges due to its nonspecific symptoms and clinical manifestations. Early and accurate diagnosis is crucial for reducing the high mortality rates associated with this condition. Abdominal ultrasonography plays a pivotal role in identifying characteristic signs of appendicitis in neonates. This study aimed to investigate whether neonatal appendicitis can be diagnosed with abdominal ultrasonography by identifying its specific signs. Methods This study reviewed 20 consecutive cases of neonatal appendicitis confirmed through surgery at a National Medical Center. Preoperative abdominal ultrasonography was analyzed for direct and indirect signs of appendicitis. Results Our study included neonates with a mean age of 13.0 ± 7.1 days. The appendix was identifiable in 13 out of 20 cases (65%). The mean outer diameter of the appendix was 4.6 ± 1.8 mm. Eight cases had appendix diameter ≥ 4 mm. Fluid accumulation within the appendiceal cavity was noted in 6 (30%) patients, and peri-appendiceal fluid accumulation was detected in 5 (25%) patients. Ultrasonography revealed appendiceal perforation in 12 out of 16 cases (75%). The indirect signs of neonatal appendicitis included right lower quadrant (RLQ) abscess, pneumoperitoneum, and thickening of the intestinal wall and mesentery in the RLQ. Conclusion Most cases of neonatal appendicitis may be diagnosed through abdominal ultrasonography by identifying both direct and indirect signs. Future studies with larger patient cohorts are needed to improve ultrasonographic diagnosis of neonatal appendicitis.

Extended reality (XR) such as Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) has been heralded as a particularly promising technology for autistic people. However, prior studies have centered around curing or ameliorating deficits and impairments and are typically conducted by non-disabled and non-autistic researchers. Using co-design and a variety of learning experience design methods and processes, Project PHoENIX (Participatory, Human-centered, Equitable, Neurodiverse, and Inclusive XR) speaks to the need for research that applies a social-ecological perspective to the design and evaluation of VR experiences for autistic users, with the goal of decreasing environmental barriers and promoting a more inclusive society. In this study, we describe a multi-cycle process of educational design research (EDR), consisting of iterative human-centered formative design, development, implementation, and evaluation of Project PHoENIX from Spring 2021 to Spring 2022. A framework for conducting co-design and collaborative educational design research with autistic individuals in a VR environment is provided along with design principles that support this framework. Findings from 3 meso-cycles illustrate the dual outcomes of educational design research, namely, (1) a consistently maturing intervention and (2) improving theoretical understanding. Findings underscore the feasibility of our approach, and demonstrate potential to scale.

Abstract Some studies have identified influencing factors of COVID-19 illness in elderly, such as underlying diseases, but research on the effect of nutritional status is still lacking. This study retrospectively examined the influence of nutritional status on the outcome of elderly COVID-19 inpatients. A retrospective analysis of the clinical data of 4241 COVID-19 patients who were admitted to a third-class hospital of Nanchang between November 1, 2022 and January 31, 2023 was conducted. Nutritional status was assessed using the prognostic nutritional index (PNI) and controlling nutritional status score (CONUT). The influence of nutritional status on the outcome of COVID-19 patients was determined through multivariate adjustment analysis, restrictive cubic spline, and receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC). Compared with mild/no malnutrition, severe malnutrition substantially increased the critical outcome of COVID-19. A linear relationship was observed between the odds ratio (OR) and PNI and CONUT (P > 0.05). The area under the ROC curve indicated that PNI was the better predictor. The optimal cutoff value of PNI was 38.04 (95%CI: 0.797 ~ 0.836, AUC = 0.817), with a sensitivity of 70.7% and a specificity of 79.6%. The critical illness of elderly COVID-19 patients shows a linear relationship with malnutrition at admission. The use of PNI to assess the prognosis of COVID-19 eldeely patients is reliable, highlighting the importance for doctors to closely pay attention to the nutritional status of COVID-19 patients. Focusing on nutritional status in clinical practice can effectively reduce the critical illness of elderly COVID-19 patients.

Abstract Background Stroke-associated pneumonia (SAP) is a common complication in stroke patients, and the Barthel Index (BI) is a well-established metric for assessing activities of daily living (ADL). However, the association between BI and SAP in acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients remains unclear. This study aims to investigate the relationship between BI at admission and SAP, and explore the factors in AIS elderly patients. Method Retrospective data were collected from ischemic stroke patients hospitalized at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University between January 2018 and July 2021, including their basic demographic and laboratory test results. Restricted cubic spline regression, multivariate logistic regression analysis, and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis were employed to investigate the relationship between BI and SAP. Additionally, the Shapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) method was used to identify the factors influencing SAP. Results The study included 7,548 eligible stroke patients with a mean age of 75.1 ± 7.6 years, among which 41.14% were female. Abstract Background Many studies have shown that adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) lead to adverse social relations in middle-aged and older adults and harm physical and mental health, but few studies have focused on the impact of ACEs on marital status in middle-aged and older adults and the potential influence of marital status between ACEs and depressive symptoms. Purpose This study aimed to analyze the effect of ACEs on marital status and depressive symptoms in the Chinese middle-aged and older adults, and to explore the mediating role of marital status in the association between ACEs and depressive symptoms in middle-aged and older adults. Method This study used the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) 2014 life history survey and 2015 and 2018 follow-up data to analyze, ten ACEs conditions and marital status were collected by questionnaire, using the Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale (CESD-10) 10-item short form to assess depressive symptoms. The association between cumulative ACEs and marital status was assessed by constructing a multinomial logistic regression (MLR) model, as well as a binary logistic regression model to assess the association between ACEs and depressive symptoms. The mediating role of marital status in the association between ACEs and depressive symptoms was also assessed. Results A total of 10,246 individuals aged 45 years or older were included in the analysis. Compared to individuals who did not experience ACEs, those who experienced two or more ACEs had a higher risk of being unmarried (seperated/divorced/never married) (OR = 1.67, 95% CI=[1.10,2.51]) and a higher risk of depressive symptoms (OR = 1.66, 95% CI=[1.49,1.84]) in middle and old age. Unmarried status partially mediated the association of ACEs with depressive symptoms. Conclusion Chinese middle-aged and older people who experienced two or more ACEs have higher risks of unmarried status and depressive symptoms, and unmarried status partially mediated the ACEs-depressive symptom association. These findings reveal the fact that we need to develop life-cycle public health strategies to reduce exposure to ACEs and society should give more attention to the marital status of older people, thereby reducing the risk of depression among middle-aged and older adults in China.

Abstract Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) is the most common histiocytic disorder in children, and liver involvement in LCH is rare. This retrospective study reported the clinical features and prognosis of patients with hepatic LCH. Liver involvement was defined by histopathological findings, liver dysfunction or abnormalities, or ultrasound imaging. A total of 130 patients (14.5%) with hepatic LCH out of 899 in the LCH population were enrolled. LncRNAs are involved in modulating the individual risk and the severity of progression in metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MASLD), but their precise roles remain largely unknown. This study aimed to investigate the role of lncRNA Snhg3 in the development and progression of MASLD, along with the underlying mechanisms. The result showed that Snhg3 was significantly downregulated in the liver of high-fat diet-induced obesity (DIO) mice. Notably, palmitic acid promoted the expression of Snhg3 and overexpression of Snhg3 increased lipid accumulation in primary hepatocytes. Furthermore, hepatocyte-specific Snhg3 deficiency decreased body and liver weight, alleviated hepatic steatosis and promoted hepatic fatty acid metabolism in DIO mice, whereas overexpression induced the opposite effect. Mechanistically, Snhg3 promoted the expression, stability and nuclear localization of SND1 protein via interacting with SND1, thereby inducing K63-linked ubiquitination modification of SND1. Moreover, Snhg3 decreased the H3K27me3 level and induced SND1-mediated chromatin loose remodeling, thus reducing H3K27me3 enrichment at the Pparg promoter and enhancing PPARγ expression. The administration of PPARγ antagonist T0070907 improved Snhg3-aggravated hepatic steatosis. Our study revealed a new signaling pathway, Snhg3/SND1/H3K27me3/PPARγ, responsible for mice MASLD and indicates that lncRNA-mediated epigenetic modification has a crucial role in the pathology of MASLD.

Abstract As living standards improve, mental and physical health have been gaining increasing attention. Presently, depression is one of the most severe mental health issues. Depression affects the quality of life of affected individuals because it lasts for a very long time and is generally difficult to cure. Currently, pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy are the two main approaches for treating depression. However, some principles and characteristics of pharmacotherapy remain unclear, and its side effects are significant and noticeable. In addition, ordinary psychotherapy requires the assistance of a qualified psychotherapist, which is usually hard to find and expensive. Both methods are burdensome to the patients, making it difficult for them to benefit. As an easy‐to‐obtain therapy, music therapy has been recommended by physicians as an auxiliary therapy for various diseases to regulate patients' emotions and help the primary treatment methods to obtain better therapeutic effects. This review investigates and summarizes recent articles on the pathogenesis of depression and the effects of music therapy on depression. Its results show that music therapy is effective and available. However, a systematic treatment plan has not yet been formulated due to the lack of samples and short follow‐up times. Future studies should include more samples and follow‐up patients after the treatment period to address the continuous effect and principle of music therapy.

The KCNQ1 gene encodes a voltage-gated potassium channel required for cardiac action potentials. Mutations in this gene have been associated with hereditary long QT syndrome 1, Jervell and Lange-Nielsen syndromes, and familial atrial fibrillation. The NM_000218.3(KCNQ1): c.604 + 2T > C mutation has been categorized as the causative variant leading to LQT1. In this study, we generated a KCNQ1 (c.644 + 2T > C) mutation human embryonic stem cell line WAe009-A-1L based on CRISPR base editing system. WAe009-A-1L cell has the potential to differentiate cardiomyocytes and would be used as an in vitro disease model for mechanism exploration and drug screening.

The precise reconstruction of ionospheric electron density (IED) fields with high spatial and temporal resolutions has always been challenging. Global navigation satellite system (GNSS) tomography is a powerful tool to resolve the spatial structure and temporal behavior of IED. This study proposes a novel two-step algorithm of ionospheric tomography for the reconstruction of IED fields with high time resolution. Linear time-dependent ionospheric tomography model based on the node-based parameterization method is established for the first time. In the two-step reconstruction method, the linear trends of IED over a long time are first inverted. Then, the modeling residuals are adopted to obtain deviation terms. In addition, the design matrix is adaptively adjusted because the vertical variation parameter of IED for each voxel is dynamically updated from the IED profiles after each iteration. The tomography (5 min) is validated with GPS data collected over a one-month period (September 2020) from 629 stations in the USA. According to the GPS, COSMIC-2, and Swarm validations, the proposed tomography approach outperforms voxel-based, traditional node parameterization, and linear time-dependent methods by 10%–40%. The performance of the tomographic modeling is further examined by using a high geomagnetic activity period of April 20–29, 2023 in the high solar activity year. Results show that the tomographic model is robust even during severe geomagnetic storms.

Abstract Purpose To explore the predictive value of radiomics in predicting stroke-associated pneumonia (SAP) in acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients and construct a prediction model based on clinical features and DWI-MRI radiomics features. Methods Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to identify the independent clinical predictors for SAP. Pearson correlation analysis and the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator with ten-fold cross-validation were used to calculate the radiomics score for each feature and identify the predictive radiomics features for SAP. Multivariate logistic regression was used to combine the predictive radiomics features with the independent clinical predictors. The prediction performance of the SAP models was evaluated using receiver operating characteristics (ROC), calibration curves, decision curve analysis, and subgroup analyses. Results Triglycerides, the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio, dysphagia, the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) score, and internal carotid artery stenosis were identified as clinically independent risk factors for SAP. Circuit noise is a critical factor that affects the performances of an MEMS gyroscope. Therefore, it is essential to analyze and suppress the noises in the key analog circuits, which are the main noise sources. This study presents an optimized front-end readout circuit and noise suppression methods. First, the noise analysis of the front-end readout circuit is carried out with theoretical derivation to clarify the main noise contributors. To suppress the output noise, an improved readout circuit based on the T-resistor networks is proposed, and the corresponding noise equation is derived in detail. In addition, the noise analysis of the critical circuits of the detection and control system, such as the inverting amplifiers, the first-order low-pass filters, and the first-order high-pass filters, is carried out, and the noise suppression strategy with the optimization of the resistances and is proposed. Taking the inverting amplifier as an example, the theoretical derivation is verified by measuring and comparing the output noises of different resistance schemes. In addition, the output noises of the gyroscope before and after circuit optimization are measured. Experimental results demonstrate that the output noise with the circuit optimization is reduced from 60 μV/Hz1/2 to 30 μV/Hz1/2 and the bias instability is reduced from 3.8 deg/h to 1.38 deg/h. In addition, the ARW is significantly improved from 0.035 deg/h1/2 to 0.018 deg/h1/2, which indicates that the proposed noise analysis and suppression methods are effective and feasible.

Abstract The quest for effective virtual screening algorithms is hindered by the scarcity of training data, calling for innovative approaches. This study presents the use of experimental electron density (ED) data for improving active compound enrichment in virtual screening, supported by ED’s ability to reflect the time-averaged behavior of ligands and solvents in the binding pocket. Experimental ED-based grid matching score (ExptGMS) was developed to score compounds by measuring the degree of matching between their binding conformations and a series of multi-resolution experimental ED grids. The efficiency of ExptGMS was validated using both in silico tests with the Directory of Useful Decoys-Enhanced dataset and wet-lab tests on Covid-19 3CLpro-inhibitors. ExptGMS improved the active compound enrichment in top-ranked molecules by approximately 20%. Furthermore, ExptGMS identified four active inhibitors of 3CLpro, with the most effective showing an IC50 value of 1.9 µM. We also developed an online database containing experimental ED grids for over 17,000 proteins to facilitate the use of ExptGMS for academic users.

Abstract Objective The purpose of this study was to analyze the outcomes of the combination of ultrasound (US)-guided percutaneous external drainage and subsequent definitive operation to manage complicated choledochal cyst in children. Methods This retrospective study included 6 children with choledochal cyst who underwent initial US-guided percutaneous external drainage and subsequent cyst excision with Roux-en-Y hepaticojejunostomy between January 2021 and September 2022. Patient characteristics, laboratory findings, imaging data, treatment details, and postoperative outcomes were evaluated. Results Mean age at presentation was 2.7 ± 2.2 (0.5–6.2) years, and 2 patients (2/6) were boys. Four patients (4/6) had a giant choledochal cyst with the widest diameter of ≥ 10 cm and underwent US-guided percutaneous biliary drainage on admission or after conservative treatments. The other 2 patients (2/6) underwent US-guided percutaneous transhepatic cholangio-drainage and percutaneous transhepatic gallbladder drainage due to coagulopathy, respectively. Five patients (5/6) recovered well after US-guided percutaneous external drainage and underwent the definitive operation, whereas 1 patient (1/6) had liver fibrosis confirmed by Fibroscan and ultimately underwent liver transplantation 2 months after external drainage. The mean time from US-guided percutaneous external drainage to the definitive operation was 12 ± 9 (3–21) days. The average length of hospital stay was 24 ± 9 (16–31) days. No related complications of US-guided percutaneous external drainage occurred during hospitalization. At 10.2 ± 6.8 (1.0–18.0) months follow-up, all patients had a normal liver function and US examination. Conclusions Our detailed analysis of this small cohort suggests that US-guided percutaneous external drainage is technically feasible for choledochal cyst with giant cysts or coagulopathy in children, which may provide suitable conditions for subsequent definitive operation with a good prognosis. Abstract Background Studies of the associations between soft drinks and the risk of cancer showed inconsistent results. No previous published systematic reviews and meta-analysis has investigated a dose–response association between exposure dose and cancer risk or assessed the certainty of currently available evidence. Therefore, we aim to demonstrate the associations and assessed the certainty of the evidence to show our confidence in the associations. Methods We searched Embase, PubMed, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library from inception to Jun 2022, to include relevant prospective cohort studies. We used a restricted cubic spline model to conduct a dose–response meta-analysis and calculated the absolute effect estimates to present the results. The Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) approach was used to assess the certainty of the evidence. Results Forty-two articles including on 37 cohorts enrolled 4,518,547 participants were included. With low certainty evidence, increased consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs) per 250 mL/day was significantly associated with a 17% greater risk of breast cancer, a 10% greater risk of colorectal cancer, a 30% greater risk of biliary tract cancer, and a 10% greater risk of prostate cancer; increased consumption of artificially sweetened beverages (ASBs)re per 250 mL/day was significantly associated with a 16% greater risk of leukemia; increased consumption of 100% fruit juice per 250 mL/day was significantly associated with a 31% greater risk of overall cancer, 22% greater risk of melanoma, 2% greater risk of squamous cell carcinoma, and 29% greater risk of thyroid cancer. The associations with other specific cancer were no significant. We found linear dose–response associations between consumption of SSBs and the risk of breast and kidney cancer, and between consumption of ASBs and 100% fruit juices and the risk of pancreatic cancer. Conclusions An increment in consumption of SSBs of 250 mL/day was positively associated with increased risk of breast, colorectal, and biliary tract cancer. Fruit juices consumption was also positively associated with the risk of overall cancer, thyroid cancer, and melanoma. The magnitude of absolute effects, however, was small and mainly based on low or very low certainty of evidence. The association of ASBs consumption with specific cancer risk was uncertain. Electric and magnetic fields have been used in various ways to enhance the performance of lubrication systems. The presence of these fields can significantly change the properties of lubricants. The rapid adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) has presented new lubrication-related challenges due to the presence of electric current. There is an urgent need for an in-depth study of lubrication systems subjected to such fields. This paper highlights recent research works on several key areas of lubrication involving electric or magnetic fields, which are:1) electric double layer in lubrication, 2) electrorheological fluids, 3) magnetorheological fluids, 4) ferrofluids, and 5) typical fluids used in the current EVs and typical surface failures of bearing components in EVs. Commonly used lubricants in each area are reviewed; lubrication mechanisms and related mathematical models are summarized; methods for and results from numerical analyses and experimental explorations are discussed; and common features of lubrications in different fields are explored. Based on the current research progress in these fields and the classic generalized Reynolds equation, a generalized mechanical-electro-magnetic-thermal-field (MEMT-field) Reynolds equation is proposed to describe the aforementioned lubrication scenarios and the effects of coupled mechanical, electric, magnetic, and thermal fields, which can be solved with a numerical iteration method.

BackgroundMetabolic disorders are involved in the development of numerous cancers, but their association with the progression of cervical cancer is unclear. This study aims to investigate the association between metabolic disorders and the pathological risk factors and survival in patients with early cervical cancer.MethodsPatients with FIGO IB1 (2009) primary cervical cancer who underwent radical hysterectomy and systematic pelvic lymph node dissection at our institution from October 2014 to December 2017 were included retrospectively. Clinical data regarding the metabolic syndrome and surgical pathology of the patient were collected. The correlations between metabolic disorders (hypertension, hyperglycemia, and obesity) and clinicopathological characteristics as well as survival after surgery were analyzed.ResultsThe study included 246 patients with clinical IB1 cervical cancer, 111 (45.1%) of whom had at least one of the comorbidities of hypertension, obesity, or hyperglycemia. Hypertension was positively correlated with parametrial invasion and poorly differentiated histology; hyperglycemia was positively correlated with stromal invasion; obesity was negatively associated with lymph node metastasis; but arbitrary disorder did not show any correlation with pathologic features. Hypertension was an independent risk factor for parametrial invasion (OR=6.54, 95% CI: 1.60-26.69); hyperglycemia was an independent risk factor for stromal invasion (OR=2.05, 95% CI: 1.07-3.95); and obesity was an independent protective factor for lymph node metastasis (OR=0.07, 95% CI: 0.01-0.60). Abstract Thin film evaporation is a widely-used thermal management solution for micro/nano-devices with high energy densities. Local measurements of the evaporation rate at a liquid-vapor interface, however, are limited. We present a continuous profile of the evaporation heat transfer coefficient ( $$h_{\text {evap}}$$ h evap ) in the submicron thin film region of a water meniscus obtained through local measurements interpreted by a machine learned surrogate of the physical system. Frequency domain thermoreflectance (FDTR), a non-contact laser-based method with micrometer lateral resolution, is used to induce and measure the meniscus evaporation. A neural network is then trained using finite element simulations to extract the $$h_{\text {evap}}$$ h evap profile from the FDTR data. For a substrate superheat of 20 K, the maximum $$h_{\text {evap}}$$ h evap is $$1.0_{-0.3}^{+0.5}$$ 1 . 0 - 0.3 + 0.5 MW/ $$\text {m}^2$$ m 2 -K at a film thickness of $$15_{-3}^{+29}$$ 15 - 3 + 29 nm. This ultrahigh $$h_{\text {evap}}$$ h evap value is two orders of magnitude larger than the heat transfer coefficient for single-phase forced convection or evaporation from a bulk liquid. Under the assumption of constant wall temperature, our profiles of $$h_{\text {evap}}$$ h evap and meniscus thickness suggest that 62% of the heat transfer comes from the region lying 0.1–1 μm from the meniscus edge, whereas just 29% comes from the next 100 μm.

The local land use carbon budget (LUCB) balance is an important factor in achieving regional carbon neutrality. As the basic unit of China’s economic development and social governance, the county level is an important part of the realization of the “double carbon” goal. This paper focuses on 1069 county units within the Yangtze River Economic Belt (YREB). It utilizes data on land use, nighttime light, energy consumption, and social and economic factors to construct carbon emission models. The spatiotemporal characteristics of LUCB in these county units are analyzed using standard deviational ellipse (SDE) and spatial autocorrelation methods. Additionally, a zoning study is conducted by examining the economic contribution coefficient (ECC) of carbon emissions, the ecological support coefficient (ESC), and their coupling relationship. The results show that (1) the total land use carbon emissions (LUCE) increased significantly during the research period, and the total carbon sink was relatively stable. (2) The LUCB is spatially high in the east and low in the west, with the center of gravity moving to the southwest as a whole. (3) The LUCB shows positive spatial autocorrelation and has significant spatial agglomeration characteristics, which are mainly high–high and low–low regional agglomeration types. (4) The ECC is high in the east and low in the west, the ESC is high in the west and low in the east, and the coordination and coupling degrees of the two are low. (5) According to the ECC and ESC, the county unit is divided into a low-carbon conservation area, an economic development area, a carbon sink development area, and a comprehensive optimization area. This study is helpful in promoting the sustainable development of carbon neutrality and low carbon in the YREB.

Abstract We report for the first time the use of experimental electron density (ED) as training data for the generation of drug-like three-dimensional molecules based on the structure of a target protein pocket. Similar to a structural biologist building molecules based on their ED, our model functions with two main components: a generative adversarial network (GAN) to generate the ligand ED in the input pocket and an ED interpretation module for molecule generation. The model was tested on three targets: a kinase (hematopoietic progenitor kinase 1), protease (SARS‐CoV‐2 main protease), and nuclear receptor (vitamin D receptor), and evaluated with a reference dataset composed of over 8000 compounds that have their activities reported in the literature. The evaluation considered the chemical validity, chemical space distribution-based diversity, and similarity with reference active compounds concerning the molecular structure and pocket-binding mode. Our model can generate molecules with similar structures to classical active compounds and novel compounds sharing similar binding modes with active compounds, making it a promising tool for library generation supporting high-throughput virtual screening. The ligand ED generated can also be used to support fragment-based drug design. Our model is available as an online service to academic users via https://edmg.stonewise.cn/#/create .

The Protein phosphatase 1 catalytic subunit alpha (PPP1CA) is a alpha subunit of the PP1 complex, which known to be involved in the regulation of a variety of cellular processes, such as cell division, glycogen metabolism, muscle contractility, protein synthesis, and HIV-1 viral transcription. Increased PP1 activity has been observed in the end stage of heart failure. Here, a PPP1CA knockout human embryonic stem cell line, WAe009-A-B, was generated using the CRISPR/Cas9 system to further study the function of PPP1CA. The cell line confirmed with pluripotency, normal karyotype and differentiation potential.

Introduction: Many researchers have explored the bound states in the continuum (BICs) as a particular bound wave state which can be used to achieve a very high Q-factor. High-Q factor devices, typically based on the bound states in the continuum (BICs), are well used in the fields of hypersensitive biochemical sensors, non-linear effects enhancement, plasmon lasers, and hi-performance filtering. However, symmetrical-protected BIC is difficult to achieve experimentally high-Q factor because it strongly depends on the geometry and can be destroyed by any slight disturbance in the potential well.Methods: Therefore, we proposed a parameter-adjusted Friedrich-Wintergen BIC based on the analysis model of time-coupled model theory, where the target system parameters can be tuned to achieve high-Q excitation.Results: Moreover, considering the tunability and flexibility of the components in various practical applications, we integrate active materials into metasurface arrays with the help of external stimuli to achieve modulation of high-Q resonances. Our results demonstrate that an optical resonator based on FW-BIC can modulate the BIC state by changing the intermediate gap.Discussion: The BIC state and the high-Q factor Fano resonance can be dynamically tuned by adding temperature-sensitive VO2 material.

Terahertz functional devices with high-Q factor play an important role in spectral sensing, security imaging, and wireless communication. The reported terahertz devices based on the electromagnetic induction transparency (EIT) effect cannot meet the needs of high-Q in practical applications due to the low-Q factor. Therefore, to increase the Q-factor of resonance, researchers introduced the concept of bound state in the continuum (BIC). In the quasi-BIC state, the metasurface can be excited by the incident wave and provide resonance with a high-Q factor because the condition that the resonant state of the BIC state is orthogonal is not satisfied. The split ring resonator (SRR) is one of the most representative artificial microstructures in the metasurface field, and it shows great potential in BIC. In this paper, based on the classical single-SRR array structure, we combine the large and small SRR and change the resonance mode of the inner and outer SRR by changing the outer radius of the inner SRR. The metasurface based on parameter-tuned BIC verified that the continuous modulation of parameters in a system could make a pair of resonant states strongly coupled, and the coherent cancellation of the resonant states will cause the linewidth of one of the resonant states to disappear, thus forming BIC. Compared with the single-SRR array metasurface based on symmetry-protected BIC, the dual-SRR array metasurface designed in this paper has multiple accidental BICs and realizes multichannel multiplexing of X-polarization and Y-polarization. It provides a brilliant platform for high-sensitivity optical sensor array, low threshold laser and efficient optical harmonic generation.

Communication assessment in interpreting has developed into an area with new models and continues to receive growing attention in recent years. The process refers to the assessment of messages composed of both “verbal” and “nonverbal” signals. A few relevant studies revolving around automatic scoring investigated the assessment of fluency based on objective temporal measures, and the correlation between the machine translation metrics and human scores. There is no research exploring machine-learning-based automatic scoring in-depth integrating parameters of delivery and information. What remains fundamentally challenging to demonstrate is which parameters, extracted through an automatic methodology, predict more reliable results. This study presents an original study with the aim to propose and test a machine learning approach to automatically assess communication in English/Chinese interpreting. It proposes to build predictive models using machine learning algorithms, extracting parameters for delivery, and applying a translation quality estimation model for information assessment to describe the final model. It employs the K-nearest neighbour algorithm and support vector machine for further analysis. It is found that the best machine-learning model built with all features by Support Vector Machine shows an accuracy of 62.96%, which is better than the K-nearest neighbour model with an accuracy of 55.56%. The assessment results of the pass level can be accurately predicted, which indicates that the machine learning models are able to screen the interpretations that pass the exam. The study is the first to build supervised machine learning models integrating both delivery and fidelity features to predict quality of interpreting. The machine learning models point to the great potential of automatic scoring with little human evaluation involved in the process. Automatic assessment of communication is expected to complete multi-tasks within a brief period by taking both holistic and analytical approaches to assess accuracy, fidelity and delivery. The proposed automatic scoring system might facilitate human-machine collaboration in the future. It can generate instant feedback for students by evaluating input renditions or abridge the workload for educators in interpreting education by screening performance for subsequent human scoring.

Local government innovation support (LGIS) is an exogenous pulling force for high-quality economic development. Accurately identifying the mechanism by which LGIS affects green development remains practically and theoretically significant for building a long-term framework for driving green development. Based on provincial panel data (2010–2019), this paper uses the Super-SBM model to measure the green development efficiency (GDE) of different provinces in China. A dynamic panel GMM model is constructed to evaluate the significant relationship between LGIS and GDE and to explore the potential impact mechanism of other key factors such as fixed asset investment (FAI), environmental regulation (ER), industrial structure (IS), and foreign direct investment (FDI) on GDE. The estimation showed that LGIS had a positive impact on GDE. The data analysis indicated that GDE in the lag period significantly affected the GDE in the current period. More so, as per the results, the promoting effect of GDE in the second lag period gradually weakened due to the decline of LGIS and ER restrictions. The current model also revealed that FAI and ER inhibited the GDE progress, while IS and FAI had improved the state of GDE in the region. The research findings imply that China should further increase the government innovation expenditure, FDI utilization, and IS upgrade to promote high-quality economic development.

In this paper, we propose a Robust Breast Cancer Diagnostic System (RBCDS) based on multimode Magnetic Resonance (MR) images. Firstly, we design a four-mode convolutional neural network (FMS-PCNN) model to detect whether an image contains a tumor. The features of the images generated by different imaging modes are extracted and fused to form the basis of classification. This classification model utilizes both spatial pyramid pooling (SPP) and principal components analysis (PCA). SPP enables the network to process images of different sizes and avoids the loss due to image resizing. PCA can remove redundant information in the fused features of multi-sequence images. The best accuracy of this model achieves 94.6%. After that, we use our optimized U-Net (SU-Net) to segment the tumor from the entire image. The SU-Net achieves a mean dice coefficient (DC) value of 0.867. Finally, the performance of the system is analyzed to prove that this system is superior to the existing schemes.

Abstract Importance Neuroblastoma is the most common extracranial malignant solid tumor in children. Multidisciplinary care is critical to improving the survival of pediatric patients with neuroblastoma. Objective To systematically summarize the clinical characteristics of children with neuroblastoma and evaluate their prognosis with multidisciplinary care provided in a single center. Methods This retrospective study analyzed the clinical data of 1041 patients with neuroblastoma who were diagnosed, treated, and followed‐up in the Hematology‐Oncology Center of Beijing Children’s Hospital from 2007 to 2019. Results The median age at diagnosis was 34 months; 80.8% of the patients were younger than 5 years of age. Notably, 243 patients (23.3%) were classified as low‐risk, 249 patients (23.9%) were classified as intermediate‐risk, and 549 (52.7%) were classified as high‐risk. Furthermore, 956 patients underwent surgical resections; 986 (94.7%) patients received chemotherapy; and 176 patients with high‐risk neuroblastoma received hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. The 5‐year event‐free survival (EFS) rate was 91.3% and 5‐year overall survival (OS) rate was 97.5% in low‐risk group; in the intermediate‐risk group, these rates were 85.1% and 96.7%, respectively, while they were 37.7% and 48.9% in the high‐risk group (P < 0.001 for both). The 5‐year EFS and OS rates were significantly higher in patients diagnosed between 2015 and 2019 than in patients diagnosed between 2007 and 2014 (P < 0.001). In total, 278 patients (26.7%) exhibited tumor relapse or progression; the median interval until relapse or progression was 14 months. Of the 233 patients who died, 83% died of relapse or progression of neuroblastoma and 4.3% died of therapy‐related complications. Interpretation The 5‐year OS rate was low in high‐risk patients, compared with low‐and intermediate‐risk patients. Multidisciplinary care is critical for improvement of survival in pediatric patients with neuroblastoma. Additional treatment strategies should be sought to improve the prognosis of patients with high‐risk neuroblastoma.

Transition metal oxides (TMOs) can provide high theoretical capacitance due to the change of multiple valence states of transition metals. However, their intrinsic drawbacks, including poor electrical conductivity, lower energy density, and huge volume expansion, will result in the pulverization of electrode materials and restricted electrochemical kinetics, thus leading to poor rate capability and rapid capacity fading. Composite electrodes based on transition metal oxides and carbon-based materials are considered to be promising candidates for overcoming these limitations. Herein, we reported a preparation method of hybrid ZIFs derived Zn-doped Co3O4/carbon (Zn-Co3O4/C-230) particles semi-embedded in wood-derived carbon skeleton for integrated electrodes. A large specific surface area, excellent conductivity, and electrochemical stability provide a larger electrochemical activity and potential window for the electrode. Prepared Zn-Co3O4@CW-230 electrode (0.6 mm thick) displays ultrahigh area specific capacitances of 7.83 and 6.46 F cm−2 at the current densities of 5 and 30 mA cm−2, respectively. Moreover, a symmetric supercapacitor assembled by two identical Zn-Co3O4@CW-230 electrodes delivers a superior area-specific capacitance of 2.61 F cm−2 at the current densities of 5 mA cm−2 and great energy densities of 0.36 mWh cm−2 (6.0 mWh cm−3) at 2.5 mW cm−2, while maintaining 97.3% of initial capacitance over 10,000 cycles. It notably outperforms those of most carbon-based metal oxides, endowing the Zn-Co3O4@CW-230 with extensive prospects for practical application.

The purpose of this research study was to examine the overall effect of adaptive learning systems deployed using artificial intelligence technology across a range of relevant variables (e.g., duration, student level, etc.). Following a systematic procedure, this meta-analysis examined literature from 18 academic databases and identified N = 45 independent studies utilizing AI-enabled adaptive learning. This meta-analysis examined the overall effect of AI-enabled adaptive learning systems on students' cognitive learning outcomes when compared with non-adaptive learning interventions and found that they have a medium to large positive effect size (g = 0.70). The effect was significantly moderated by publication type, origin of study, student classification level, student discipline, duration, and research design. In addition, all three adaptive sources (cognitive, affective, and behavioral) and adaptive targets (navigation and assessment) were significant moderators. The type of AI used in the adaptive engine did not moderate the effects. Implications for both practice and research are provided.

In logistics warehouse sorting, rubbish classification, and household services, scenarios exist in which rigid and soft objects are randomly piled together. In such situations, two major challenges arise in robotic picking tasks: the first is to distinguish rigid objects from soft objects, and the second is to grasp one object of each type at a time. In this study, we propose a novel robotic picking methodology for the grasping of objects mixed with towels. The proposed approach is based on a novel object detection method that can identify a rigid object placed in different directions using a rotational bounding box. Rigid objects can be separated from the mixed scene without object segmentation. Moreover, the grasping pose of a rigid object can be generated directly along its principal axis, without using a CAD model or specific pose detection method. The gripper opening width is determined according to the object size. Therefore, our method can detect whether other objects, particularly soft ones, exist around a rigid object. If no suitable grasping pose is available for the rigid objects, the grasping pose on a wrinkle of the towel is selected. The experiments demonstrate that our method can accomplish the picking task in scenes with mixed rigid and soft objects, thereby indicating its significance in robotic object detection and sorting.

In response to COVID-19 in December 2019, China imposed a strict lockdown for the following two months, which led to an unprecedented reduction in industrial activities and transportation. However, haze pollution was still recorded in many Chinese cities during the lockdown period. To explore temporal and spatial variations in urban haze pollution, concentrations of air pollutants (PM2.5, PM10, SO2, CO, NO, NO2, and O3) from April 2017 to March 2020 were observed at 23 monitoring stations throughout Nanchang City (including one industrial site, sixteen urban central sites, two mountain sites, and four suburban sites). Overall, the highest concentrations of PM2.5, PM10, and SO2 were observed at industrial sites and the highest CO and NOx (NO and NO2) concentrations were recorded at urban sites. The air pollutants at mountain sites all showed the lowest concentrations, which indicated that anthropogenic activities are largely responsible for air pollutants. Concentrations of PM2.5, PM10, CO, NO, and NO2 showed similar season trends, that is, the highest levels in winter and lowest concentrations in summer, but an opposite season pattern for O3. Except for a sharply dropping pattern from January to May 2018, there were no seasonal patterns for SO2 concentration in all the observed sites. Daily PM2.5, PM10, CO, NOx, and SO2 concentrations showed a peak during the morning commute, which indicated the influences of anthropogenic activities on PM2.5, PM10, CO, NOx, and SO2. PM2.5, PM10, NOx, and CO concentrations at industrial, urban, and suburban sites were higher during nighttime than during daytime, but they showed the opposite pattern at mountain sites. In addition, PM2.5, PM10, CO, and NOx concentrations were lower during the lockdown period (D2) than those before the lockdown (B1). After the lockdown was lifted (A3), PM2.5, PM10, CO, and NOx concentrations showed a slowly increasing trend. However, O3 concentrations continuously increased from B1 to A3.

The effects of Ca2+ in converter slag and electric arc furnace slag leaching solutions on CO2 content, the effects of CO2 content in solutions on the accumulation of chlorophyll a of Nannochloropsis sp., and the mechanisms were studied. Results showed that addition of 50 mg/L converter slag leaching solution and 400 mg/L electric arc furnace slag leaching solution (lower than 50 vol% concentration) promoted the accumulation of chlorophyll a of Nannochloropsis sp., while an increased concentration of 70 vol% inhibited its accumulation. The highest concentration of chlorophyll a was obtained on the addition of 10 vol%. With 10 vol% leaching solutions added, chlorophyll a concentration for converter slag reached 4.2 mg/L, 1.45 times as much as that of pure F/2 medium, and chlorophyll a concentration for electric arc slag reached 3.2 mg/L, 1.10 times as much as that of pure F/2 medium. Under the same addition proportion, the promoting or inhibiting effect from converter slag on the accumulation of chlorophyll a of Nannochloropsis sp. was more obvious than that for electric arc furnace slag. The reason for the promotion of chlorophyll a accumulation of Nannochloropsis sp. was that an increase of Ca2+ in the solutions led to an increase of CO2, thereby promoting the photosynthetic rate of microalgae. The study provided new ideas for the green application of solid waste and industrial production of microalgae.

A [4 + 3] synthesis of D-manno-heptulose is described. The cascade aldol/hemiketalization reaction of a C4 aldehyde with a C3 ketone provides the differentially protected ketoheptose building block, which can be further reacted to furnish target D-manno-heptulose.

Abstract Background von Hippel–Lindau (VHL) disease has a hereditary, autosomal dominant pattern, and multiple tumors can develop in multiple organs of a single patient. However, the exact mechanisms of tumorigenesis are unclear, and further studies are needed to clarify whether the same signaling pathways are involved in different VHL‐related tumors. Methods Whole‐exome sequencing (WES) of tumor and paired peripheral blood samples were performed for a VHL disease pedigree. A bioinformatics analysis was conducted to identify candidate somatic single‐nucleotide variants (SNVs) present in all tumor tissues. Sanger sequencing was then used to validate the SNVs identified using WES. Immunohistochemistry was performed to analyze components of the mTOR pathway, which was abnormally activated in tumor tissues. Results Two hemangioblastomas and two renal cell carcinomas were sequenced. The bioinformatics analysis revealed a VHL somatic variant in all tumors; no other SNV was detected. Immunohistochemistry showed the abnormal expression of the phospho‐S6 ribosomal protein in the hemangioblastomas, but not in the renal clear cell carcinomas. Conclusion Except for a SNV in the VHL gene, no other somatic SNVs were detected using WES. The phospho‐S6 ribosomal protein in the mTOR pathway is a potential target in VHL‐related cerebellum hemangioblastomas.

Steel slag is the solid waste produced by the steelmaking process. At present, there are differences in the treatment and utilization of this waste among countries around the world. The massive accumulation of steel slag not only occupies land, but also the heavy metal elements in steel slag leached by rainwater cause serious pollution to the soil and groundwater, both which threaten the life and survival of the surrounding residents. More and more attention has been paid to the resource utilization of slag because of the gradual promotion of energy saving and emission reduction all over the world. Currently, the fields that utilize slag focus on recycling of steel waste, acting as sinter raw material, dephosphorization of hot metal, road and water conservancy project construction, wastewater treatment material, application of CO2 capture and flue gas desulfurization or agriculture. Many researchers have carried out research and explorations on the effects of slag on microalgae’s growth and found that slag has enormous potential algal biomasses and huge advantages for promoting microalgae’s growth and the accumulation of metabolites. Under suitable conditions, slag can effectively promote microalgae’s growth and reproduction, as well as promote microalgae’s accumulation of metabolites, especially lipid accumulation. Thus, slag can be used as an ideal nutrient for microalgae. Culturing microalgae with slag can lower the cost and solve the problem of lacking Fe during the process of marine microalgae’s growth. Meanwhile, it can alleviate the phenomenon of the substantial stacking of slag. This study provides new methods for slag’s resource utilization.

The purpose of this study was to explore the competencies of those professionals working in the nascent area of Learning Experience Design (LXD). Following systematic procedures and inspiration from our conceptual framework of LXD that emphasizes knowledge, skill, and ability statements (KSA), we collected and coded N = 388 unique LXD job announcements over a four-month period. Using LXD job announcements as the unit of analysis, this research used a concurrent mixed-methods approach first to qualitatively code LXD job announcements on the presence or absence of a range KSA statements and then used Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) for dichotomously scored data to discern the core competencies required among LXD professionals. Our processes resulted in a total of 69 knowledge statements, 38 skills statements, and 72 ability statements. Our findings unveil core competencies across the KSA domains such as knowledge of multimedia production technologies and software, emerging technology design and development skills, and the ability to apply human-centered design to create learning products and experiences. We discuss our findings in relation to the more established domain of instructional design (ID) and present potentially unique facets of LXD in this regard. Limitations and delimitations are provided along with closing remarks.

Background The mechanisms underlying human germ cell development and infertility remain largely unknown due to bioethical issues and the shortage of experimental materials. Therefore, an effective in vitro induction system of human primordial germ-like cells (hPGCLCs) from human pluripotent stem cells (hPSC) is in high demand. The current strategies used for the generation of hPGCLCs are not only costly but also difficult to perform at a large scale, thereby posing barriers to further research. In this study, we attempted to solve these problems by providing a new 3D culture system for hPGCLC differentiation. Methods The efficiency and relative yield of a methylcellulose (MC)-based 3D hPGCLC induction system were first compared with that of a conventional U96 system. Then, we examined the gene expression of germ cell marker genes and the key epigenetic modifications of the EpCAM-/INTEGRINα6-high cells from the 3D MC induction system and the U96 system via quantitative PCR and immunofluorescence. Finally, the reliability of the MC-based 3D hPGCLC induction system was evaluated via the generation of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) from the testicular cells of one patient with obstructive azoospermia (OA) and followed by the subsequent differentiation of iPSCs into the germ cell lineage. Results In the present study, we demonstrated that the 3D MC induction system combined with low-cell attachment plates facilitated the generation of hPGCLCs at a large scale. We found that the hPGCLCs generated via the MC system shared similar characteristics to that via the U96 system in terms of the gene expression profiles, germ cell-specific markers, epigenetic modification states and cellular states. In addition, hPGCLCs from iPSCs derived from one OA patient were generated with high efficiency via the present 3D MC induction system. Discussion The in vitro induction of hPGCLCs from human embryonic stem cells (hESCs)/human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) has significant implications in exploring the underlying mechanisms of the origin and specification of hPGCs and the epigenetic programming of the human germ line as well as treating male infertility. Here, we developed a simple and efficient 3D induction system to generate hPGCLCs from hESCs/hiPSCs at a large scale, which facilitated the study of human germ cell development and stem cell-based reproductive medicine.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a common disease associated with metabolic syndrome and can lead to life-threatening complications like hepatic carcinoma and cirrhosis. Exenatide, a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist antidiabetic drug, has the capacity to overcome insulin resistance and attenuate hepatic steatosis but the specific underlying mechanism is unclear. This study was designed to investigate the underlying molecular mechanisms of exenatide therapy on NAFLD. We used in vivo and in vitro techniques to investigate the protective effects of exenatide on fatty liver via fat mass and obesity associated gene (FTO) in a high-fat (HF) diet-induced NAFLD animal model and related cell culture model. Exenatide significantly decreased body weight, serum glucose, insulin, insulin resistance, serum free fatty acid, triglyceride, total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein, aspartate aminotransferase, and alanine aminotransferase levels in HF-induced obese rabbits. Histological analysis showed that exenatide significantly reversed HF-induced lipid accumulation and inflammatory changes accompanied by decreased FTO mRNA and protein expression, which were abrogated by PI3K inhibitor LY294002. This study indicated that pharmacological interventions with GLP-1 may represent a promising therapeutic strategy for NAFLD.

Information measures play an important role in the interval neutrosophic sets (INS) theory. The main purpose of this paper is to study the similarity and entropy of INS and its application in multi-attribute decision-making. We propose a new inclusion relation between interval neutrosophic sets where the importance of the three membership functions may be different. Then, we propose the axiomatic definitions of the similarity measure and entropy of the interval neutrosophic set (INS) based on the new inclusion relation. Based on the Hamming distance, cosine function and cotangent function, some new similarity measures and entropies of INS are constructed. Finally, based on the new similarity and entropy, we propose a multi-attribute decision-making method and illustrate that these new similarities and entropies are reasonable and effective.

Picking clothing has always been a great challenge in laundry or textile industry automation, especially when some clothes are of the same colors, material and entangled with each other. In order to solve the problem, we present a grasp pose determination method to pick towels placed in a laundry basket or on a table. In our method, it is not needed to segment towels into independent items and the target towels are not necessarily distinguishable in color. The proposed algorithm firstly segments point clouds into several convex wrinkles, and then selects the appropriate grasp point on the candidate convex wrinkle. Moreover, we plan the grasp orientation with respect to the wrinkle which can effectively reduce the grasp failure caused by the inappropriate grasp direction. We evaluate our method on picking white towels and square towels, respectively, and achieved an average success rate of about 80%.
