Hyperbolic metasurfaces with unique dispersion properties can manipulate light–matter interactions according to the demands. However, due to their inherent physical properties, topological transitions (flat bands) exist only in the orthogonal directions, which greatly limit their application. Here, we unveil rich dispersion engineering and topological transitions in hyperbolic metasurfaces. Based on the effective medium theory, the rotation matrix is introduced into the dispersion relation to explain the distorted energy band diagrams, iso-frequency contours and higher-order multi-dipoles of the novel twisted metasurfaces, thereby forming multi-directional topological transitions and surface plasmon polariton propagation. Furthermore, we develop an integrated model to realize new dual-channel negative refraction and nondiffraction negative refraction. The phenomena observed in the experiments match well with the simulations, which proves that the designed metasurfaces make new types of negative refraction possible and will help to overcome the diffraction limit. The hyperbolic metasurfaces presented here exhibit exceptional capabilities for designing microscopes with a super lens at the molecular level, concealment of military aircraft, invisibility cloaks and other photonic devices with higher transmission efficiency.

Objective: In this prospective, population-based study, we evaluated the utility of high-risk human papillomavirus (HR-HPV) genotyping for triaging women with atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance (ASC-US) in the Chinese rural area. Methods: A total of 40,000 women were recruited from rural areas of Shanxi Province, China, between June 2014 and December 2014. Women with Pap results of ASC-US underwent HPV genotyping, colposcopy and histopathological examination. For those with normal cervixes or cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) 1 on the initial evaluation, a 2-year follow-up study was performed. Results: The reporting rate of ASC-US was 5.76% (2,304/40,000) in the study population. The detection rates of CIN 2 or above (CIN2+) and CIN 3 or above (CIN3+) in women with ASC-US were 7.28% and 1.75%, respectively. HPV 16 (39.53%), HPV 58 (17.83%), and HPV 52 (15.50%) were the three most prevalent HR-HPV genotypes among all women with ASC-US cytology. The five most common HR-HPV genotypes in CIN3+ lesions were HPV16, HPV58, HPV33, HPV31 and HPV18. Compared with the 15 HR-HPV testing, genotyping for a combination of HPV16/18/31/33/58 increased specificity significantly with virtually no loss of sensitivity for detecting CIN2+ and CIN3+ lesions, as well as significantly reduced colposcopy referral rate (23.15% vs 33.70%, p

Population-based studies investigating the association between dietary mineral intake and risk of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) or cervical cancer in Chinese women are few. We performed a cross-sectional analysis of screening data obtained from 2,304 women in 2014 within an ongoing cohort study comprising 40,000 women in China. Dietary intake was assessed using a semiquantitative food frequency questionnaire. Nutrition intake was calculated using a 26-item list of food sources drawn from a validated, comprehensive database. All participants were surveyed through in-person interviews, physical examinations, and laboratory tests. The Pearson chi-square test was used for categorical variables. Multivariable logistic regression models were used to evaluate the relationship between dietary mineral intake and CIN+ risk. The food frequency questionnaire exhibited acceptable reproducibility and reasonable validity in assessing nutrient intakes among these women. After adjusting for multiple potential confounders, low dietary calcium intake was associated with CIN2+ risk (first versus fourth quartile: odds ratio [OR]=1.52, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.01-2.32). Similar for magnesium (OR=1.80, 95% CI: 1.20-2.68), phosphorus (OR=1.69, 95% CI: 1.12-2.55), zinc (OR=1.55, 95% CI: 1.03-2.34), and potassium (OR=1.92, 95% CI: 1.28-2.88). Low dietary intakes of calcium and potassium were significantly associated with CIN1 risk. Increased CIN2+ risk correlated with rates of no oral contraceptives and lower levels of dietary Potassium. These results thus proposed that low dietary mineral intake was an independent risk factor, potential synergy may exist between low dietary mineral levels and oral contraceptives contribute to the development of higher-grade CIN and cervical cancer.

LINC00525 is a new-researched long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) in a few cancers. This study aims at researching the function of LINC00525 in spinal chordoma and the underlying mechanism of action. LINC00525, microRNA-31–5p (miR-31–5p) and microRNA-125a-5p (miR-125a-5p) detection was performed by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). We found the high expression of LINC00525 but the low levels of miR-31–5p and miR-125a-5p in spinal chordoma tissues. After LINC00525 was downregulated in spinal chordoma cells, there were inhibitory effects on cell proliferation, migration, invasion and EMT but a promoting effect on cell apoptosis. MiR-31–5p and miR-125a-5p were the downstream targets of LINC00525. The function of LINC00525 knockdown in spinal chordoma cells were achieved by upregulating miR-31–5p and miR-125a-5p. Tumorigenesis of spinal chordoma in vivo was also inhibited by knockdown of LINC00525 via the promotion of miR-31–5p and miR-125a-5p. All these results suggested that LINC00525 targeted miR-31–5p and miR-125a-5p to promote the tumorigenesis and progression of spinal chordoma. LINC00525 can be a novel molecular target in spinal chordoma.

Primary cervical cancer screening by liquid-based cytology alone or with adjunctive HPV testing are available worldwide. However, little if any information is available about cervical cancer diagnostic yield of population-based cervical cancer screening in China. In response to it, we conducted a large prospective study on 40,000 women cervical cancer screening within six-month period in rural Shanxi Province, where has been reported as the highest cervical cancer rates in China. A standard cross-sectional survey by self-completed questionnaire was collected and followed by the liquid-based cytology screening. Follow-up biopsy with the diagnosis of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia 2 or higher lesion (CIN2+) were analyzed. Of initial 40,000 women participating in this study, 6.76% (2702/40,000) women had ASC-US or higher cytology screening results with ASC/SIL ratio at 6.14 (2381:388). Among them, 1.96% (782/40,000) women were found CIN lesions (95% CI, 1.68-2.23%) on confirmatory biopsies, including 0.55% (218/40,000) CIN2+ and 19 SCCa (47.5/100,000, 95% CI, 29-74/100,000). Women in Yangqu County had lower ASC/SIL ratio, but higher CIN2+ detection rate in comparison with that of Jiexiu County (6.69 vs. 8.84 and 56.7% vs. 43.9%), which reflects the cervical cancer distribution in different populations and regions. Analysis in age-stratified cytology results indicated women aged 60-65 years had the highest incidence of cytologic abnormality among all the age group; likewise, women aged >50 years were at higher risk in developing cervical high grade dysplasia or cancer than women aged

Metasurfaces are a class of planar optical components that are engineered to manipulate electromagnetic waves, including their spin states in terms of circular polarizations. For example, the Pancharatnam–Berry (PB) phase has been exploited in metasurfaces for various spin functionalities, but these spin functionalities, exhibit conjugate relations for spin states. Recent advances combining the PB phase and propagation phase have implemented completely independent spin functionalities for spin states. However, the spin functionalities are fixed once the metasurfaces are designed. Here, this work proposes and demonstrates that the spin functionalities designed from the PB phase and propagation phase can be further extended by simply rotating the elements in a metasurface. This extension is based on a relationship between phase profiles of spin states that are acquired before and after the rotation. Proof-of-concept demonstrations are performed for the extended spin functionalities, including the conversion from spin angular momentum to orbital angular momentum, and spin-dependent holograms. This extension may find use in relevant applications such as polarized display and dual-polarized holography. Although folate status is associated with cervical carcinogenesis, it is not clear whether folate deficiency is associated with risk of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) progression and infection with high-risk human-papillomavirus (hrHPV).To evaluate the associations of RBC and serum folate concentrations with prevalence of CIN grades and hrHPV infection, their interactions with prevalence of CIN grades, and RBC folate with the risk of CIN1 progressing to CIN2.Using data from the Shanxi CIN cohort of 2304 female Chinese adults, we used logistic-regression model to estimate ORs and prevalence ratios (PRs) of RBC and serum folate concentrations with prevalence of CIN grades and hrHPV infection. Categoric and spline analyses were used to evaluate the dose-response relations. We estimated the association of RBC folate with risk of CIN1 progressing to CIN2 in the nested case-control cohort.An inverse association was observed between increased RBC folate concentration and the odds of all CIN grades [quartile 1 (Q1) compared with Q4: OR: 2.28; 95% CI: 1.77, 2.93; Ptrend0.001]. Significant interaction of RBC folate and hrHPV infection was observed for prevalence of CIN2 or above (Pinteraction0.01). No associations were found between RBC and serum folate with PRs of hrHPV in each CIN grade. Over a median follow-up of 21.0 mo, RBC folate was associated with increased risk of CIN1 progressing to CIN2 (Q1 compared with Q4: OR: 3.86; 95% CI: 1.01, 14.76).Our study indicates that RBC folate concentration is associated with prevalence of CIN grades and CIN1 progression in female Chinese adults. Maintenance of normal folate status is important for reducing the risk of CIN and its progression in women with or without hrHPV infection.

Recent moiré configurations provide a new platform for tunable and sensitive photonic responses, as their enhanced light–matter interactions originate from the relative displacement or rotation angle in a stacking bilayer or multilayer periodic array. However, previous findings are mostly focused on atomically thin condensed matter, with limitations on the fabrication of multilayer structures and the control of rotation angles. Structured microwave moiré configurations are still difficult to realize. Here, we design a novel moiré structure, which presents unprecedented capability in the manipulation of light–matter interactions. Based on the effective medium theory and S -parameter retrieval process, the rotation matrix is introduced into the dispersion relation to analyze the underlying physical mechanism, where the permittivity tensor transforms from a diagonal matrix to a fully populated one, whereas the permeability tensor evolves from a unit matrix to a diagonal one and finally becomes fully filled, so that the electromagnetic responses change drastically as a result of stacking and rotation. Besides, the experiment and simulation results reveal hybridization of eigenmodes, drastic manipulation of surface states, and magic angle properties by controlling the mutual rotation angles between two isolated layers. Here, not only a more precisely controllable bilayer hyperbolic metasurface is introduced to moiré physics, the findings also open up a new avenue to realize flat bands at arbitrary frequencies, which shows great potential in active engineering of surface waves and designing multifunctional plasmonic devices.

Metasurfaces have enabled the realization of several optical functionalities over an ultrathin platform, fostering the exciting field of flat optics. Traditional metasurfaces are achieved by arranging a layout of static meta-atoms to imprint a desired operation to the impinging wavefront, but their functionality cannot be altered. Reconfigurability and programmability of metasurfaces are the next important step to broaden their impact, adding customized on-demand functionality in which each meta-atom can be individually reprogrammed. However, programmable metasurfaces to date can only reconfigure 2 or 4 phase levels per meta-atom at best, hindering the overall functionality performance. Here, we demonstrate a mechanical metasurface platform with controllable rotation at the meta-atom level, which can implement continuous Pancharatnam-Berry phase control of circularly polarized waves. As the proof-of-concept experiments, we demonstrate metalensing, focused vortex beam generation, and holographic imaging in the same metasurface template, exhibiting versatility and superior performance. Such dynamic control of electromagnetic waves using a single, low-cost metasurface paves an avenue towards practical applications, driving the field of reprogrammable intelligent metasurfaces for a variety of applications.

Nodal lines are degeneracies formed by crossing bands in three-dimensional momentum space. Interestingly, these degenerate lines can chain together via touching points and manifest as nodal chains. These nodal chains are usually embedded in two orthogonal planes and protected by the corresponding mirror symmetries. Here, we propose and demonstrate an in-plane nodal chain in photonics, where all chained nodal lines coexist in a single mirror plane instead of two orthogonal ones. The chain point is stabilized by the intrinsic symmetry that is specific to electromagnetic waves at the Г point of zero frequency. By adding another mirror plane, we find a nodal ring that is constructed by two higher bands and links with the in-plane nodal chain. The nodal link in momentum space exhibits non-Abelian characteristics on a C2T - invariant plane, where admissible transitions of the nodal link structure are determined by generalized quaternion charges. Through near-field scanning measurements of bi-anisotropic metamaterials, we experimentally mapped out the in-plane nodal chain and nodal link in such systems.

In this paper, we proposed a dynamic modulation band rejection filter based on the spoof surface plasmon polaritons (SSPPs) waveguide. The dynamic adjusting mainly derives from changing the capacitance between the U-shape and the waveguide configuration. The capacitance can modulate the cut-off frequency of fundamental mode. The rejection band is formed by the high order propagation mode and the cut-off frequency of fundamental mode. We analyzed the dispersion curve and transmission performance of the band rejection filter with different capacitances. Compared with the previous scheme, the design we proposed here has a simpler and more delicate configuration to process and decreases the mechanical error. We experimentally demonstrated the excellent performance of the device by changing the direct voltage loaded on the varactor diode and achieved real time modulation around 2 GHz.

The aim of this work is to prepare a hydrophobic cathode equipped with quite a few cracks for gas transfer, which can prepare H2O2 in the course of electro-Fenton process. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and optical digital microscope are used to characterize the morphology of electrode, and an electrochemical workstation (CHI660e) is used to carry out all electrochemical studies with a conventional three-electrode system. The results demonstrate that the porous electrode is conducive to gas transmission with these cracks which can avoid the formation of bubbles. Additionally, the reaction is almost not affected by the content of dissolved oxygen and the gas flow with this structure. Under the conditions of 300 mA/cm2 (current density), the H2O2 concentration is up to 14.4 mmol/L after 30 min electrolysis with current efficiency beyond 90%. Furthermore, the cathode is successfully applied to electro-Fenton process which reduced catalyst loading. The results indicate that total degradation of MO is observed at the first 10 min, and 81% of TOC can be removed when the dosage of catalyst is 0.4 mmol/L within 60 min.

In this paper we study the spin- and charge-transport behaviors of a single molecular magnet (SMM) coupled to external reservoirs with spin-dependent chemical potentials. By using the Hubbard operator Green’s function method, we show that in the limit of a pinned macrospin the SMM can serve as an effective spin current filter or generator. Two configurations of spin bias are considered. For SMM coupled with symmetric dipolar spin bias, the system can generate spin-polarized current and pure spin current by adjusting the relative magnitude of spin bias and Coulomb interaction. It originates from the competition of two spin-opposite transport channels. Also due to this competition, one can observe a negative differential spin conductance. For SMM coupled with asymmetric dipolar spin bias, the system can only generate spin-polarized currents. The SMM as a spin current generator shows features different from the usual quantum dot system and these features can be useful in molecular spintronics.

Terahertz (THz) technology is particularly suitable for non-destructive detection of porcelain sherd due to the unique properties of non-ionizing, high penetration, and broad-spectrum. In this paper, we investigated the reflection characteristics of the pigments and sediments for red and green porcelain sherd of Bayi Kiln made in Shanxi province during the Jin Dynasty by terahertz time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS), obtaining the spectral responses of different components. Furthermore, Raman spectroscopy was used as a complementary technique to complete the qualitative analysis of the pigments and sediments. In addition, the reflective THz imaging was performed to visualize the pigments and sediments in different regions of the porcelain sherd, realizing the visual detection of the pattern on the surface of the porcelain sherd. These results show that THz-TDS and THz-imaging can serve as effective tools for the detection and analysis of ancient Chinese porcelain.

Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a devastating condition affecting hundreds of thousands of people worldwide annually. SCI results in activation of the inflammatory response and apoptosis, and generates oxidative stress, which has deleterious effects on the recovery of motor function. Apocynin, an inhibitor of NADPH oxidase, has been demonstrated to improve neuronal functional recovery in rat models of SCI. However, the efficacy of apocynin treatment post-SCI has not been investigated. The aim of this study was to observe the effects of apocynin on the repair of acute spinal cord damage in rats and to examine the potential beneficial effects. A rat model of SCI was established, and apocynin (50 mg/kg) was administered intraperitoneally at 30 min after SCI and then every 12 h for 3 days. In order to examine oxidative tissue injury, the levels of malondialdehyde and glutathione and activities of myeloperoxidase and superoxide dismutase in the spinal cord tissues were measured. Histological evaluations were also conducted. NeuN labeling, TUNEL staining and caspase 3 immunohistochemical staining were performed to analyze neuronal damage and apoptosis around the lesion. Immunohistochemical analysis was also carried out to observe the expression of CD11b and glial fibrillary acidic protein. The expression levels of bax, bcl-2, tumor necrosis-α, interleukin (IL)-1β and IL-6 in the spinal cord tissue were assayed by western blotting. Finally, locomotor function was evaluated using the inclined plane test and Basso, Beattie and Bresnahan scores. The results showed that treatment with apocynin decreased oxidative damage, alleviated neuronal apoptosis, inhibited the inflammatory response and resulted in the promotion of locomotor function. Therefore, this study confirmed the therapeutic efficacy of apocynin in the repair of SCI, which was probably mediated via the inhibition of apoptosis and the inflammatory response, thus promoting the restoration of nerve function.

The inflammatory response induced by traumatic spinal cord injury (SCI) involves the activation of NLRP3 inflammasomes, which are closely related to the activation of microglia. Microglial polarization between M1/M2 phenotypes is a pivotal regulatory factor in neuroinflammatory responses to traumatic SCI-induced secondary injuries, and altering this polarization could be beneficial. Glycyrrhizin is a neuroprotective agent with a potent anti-inflammatory property in different neurological disorders and could potentially be useful in SCI. In this study, we investigated the potency of oral treatment with glycyrrhizin to reduce inflammation and improve functional recovery after traumatic SCI by inhibiting NLRP3 inflammasome activation and promoting microglial M2 polarization. After inducing traumatic SCI by dropping a 10 g impactor on the T9 and T10 spinal segments of male Sprague-Dawley rats, the animals were given glycyrrhizin orally immediately after injury and every 12 h for the next 3 d. Behavioral scores improved in glycyrrhizin-treated animals compared to the SCI group. The functional improvement in glycyrrhizin-treated rats paralleled the decreased expression of NLRP3 inflammasome components, such as ASC, NLRP3, and cleaved caspase-1, as well as IL-1β and IL-18. At the histopathological level, oral treatment with glycyrrhizin diminished the SCI-enhanced production of Iba-1+CD86+ cells (M1 microglia) but improved the release of Iba-1+CD206+ cells (M2 microglia). Likewise, oral therapy with glycyrrhizin significantly enriched the protein expression levels of M2 microglia-related markers (CD206 and Arg-1) but reduced those of M1 microglia-related markers (CD86 and iNOS) in the injured spinal cord. These findings support and extend the knowledge on post-traumatic SCI glycyrrhizin-mediated neuroprotection. Glycyrrhizin’s regulation of NLRP3 inflammasome activation and microglial polarization might be a new approach to understanding the anti-inflammatory potency of glycyrrhizin.

10547 Background: Although low folate status has been implicated in cervical carcinogenesis, large-scale population-based prospective cohort studies controlling for high-risk types of human papillomavirus (hrHPV) infection are lacking. The aim of this study is to evaluate the associations of red blood cell (RBC) folate, hrHPV infection risk and cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) development. Methods: In this prospective, population-based cohort study, we analyzed the cross-sectional data of 2304 women from a large cervical cancer screening program of 40,000 women aged 19-65 years in the Chinese rural area from 2014-2015. We conducted a nested case-control study including 35 CIN1 progression cases and 105 CIN1 regression controls. A logistic regression model was used to evaluate the associations of RBC folate and hrHPV infection risk and CIN1 development. Results: The median RBC folate concentration decreased gradually with cervical lesion severity. The risks of CIN 1 and CIN2 or worse (CIN 2+) in the 1st quartile of RBC folate concentration were significantly higher than those in the 4th quartile (Odds Ratio [OR], 2.27; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.71-3.01 and OR, 2.33; 95% CI,1.52-3.56; respectively). We did not observe a significant relationship between hrHPV infection and CIN1 risk in the unadjusted and adjusted models, however, a statistically significant association was observed for CIN2+. Interestingly, RBC folate concentration was not associated with hrHPV infection among women with CIN1 or CIN2+. After full adjustment for potential confounders, a highly significant inverse linear relation between RBC folate concentration and CIN2+ was observed ( P-overall＜0.001, P-nonlinearity = 0.969). We further observed a positive additive interaction between RBC folate concentration and hrHPV infection on the risk of CIN2+ ( P-interaction＜0.01). Moreover, during the 21-month follow-up, CIN1 progression risk was significantly higher in the lowest RBC folate quartile (1st quartile compared with 4th quartile: OR, 3.86; 95% CI,1.01-14.76). Conclusions: Our findings indicates that RBC folate is inversely associated with the risk of higher-grade CIN and CIN1 progression in the Chinese rural population, either with or without hrHPV infection. Therefore, improving folate status has the potential to prevent higher-grade CIN and cervical cancer among women in the areas without mandatory folic acid food fortification. Summary In recent years, the coal mine safety production situation in our country improved year by year, but severe accidents still occurred; the accidents caused great economic loss to the national economy. According to statistical analysis, almost all of the coal mine accidents will expose the hidden danger in before, most of the accidents caused due to safety management not reaching the designated position and the hidden danger management does not take any decision in time. Based on the coal mine safety management holes in our country, the coal mine macro, meso and micro safety management system was established in this paper, which includes meaning and conception of the theories of the macro, meso and micro safety management, and also includes the matching hardware equipment, in order to achieve the hidden danger's closed-loop control and dynamic early warning in the process of coal mine production.

Summary The velocity of flame propagation caused by gas explosion is very difficult to be measured in experiment. A new image processing method is applied to calculate the velocity based on correlation coefficients of images. Experiment of gas explosion with 9.5% gas is carried out. The images photographed during the experiment are processed by the new method. And the change law of velocity of flame propagation is calculated. The results show that the velocity and structure of the flame are both unstable when it propagates in the pipeline. The propagation of flame is not away in acceleration state, but acceleration and deceleration are mutual alternation. And the velocity is in shock statement till the flame extinct during the whole flame propagation. The results also show that the metal wire mesh in the pipeline can accelerate the velocity of flame propagation but reduce the damage caused by gas explosion. And this method also covers the shortage of experimental method.

In mesoscopic devices, spin-resolved thermoelectrics induced by Majorana zero modes (MZMs) has attracted much attention. In this work we study an exactly solvable model consisting of a quantum dot coupled to metallic leads and side-coupled to a local large spin and a topological superconductor wire hosting MZMs. Because of MZMs’ helical property, the spin-up component of the dot spin is coupled with the MZM We mainly focus on one of the thermoelectric quantities—the Seebeck coefficient. By using Green’s function method combined with Hubbard operators, we obtain an analytical result for the spectral function. Then it is shown that spin Seebeck effects are determined by the interplay of temperature, exchange coupling, and the strength of coupling to Majorana wire. It is found that the spin-up thermopower is immune to local impurities in the limit of low temperature or large coupling to topological superconductor. Then we show that the spin-resolved thermopowers exhibit angular-quantum-number-dependent zero points. Specifically, the spin-down thermopower exhibits 4 S + 1 zero points due to the presence of local large spin, and the spin-up thermopower exhibits 8 S + 3 zero points near the transition point (where the competition of hole and electron processes reaches equilibrium), due to the interplay of local large spin and MZM. The charge and spin Seebeck coefficients also show S -dependent and MZM-involved behaviors. The results show that the interplay of local large spin and Majorana zero mode generates some interesting results, which may provide additional information as the signature of Majorana zero modes.

In mesoscopic devices, the spin-resolved transport physics induced by Majorana zero mode (MZM) has attracted much attention. Here we study a system consisting of a quantum dot coupled to metallic leads and side-coupled to a local large spin and a topological superconductor wire hosting MZMs. The interplay of MZM and impurity (local large spin) is investigated. By using Hubbard operator Green’s function method, we obtain an analytical result for retarded Green’s function with finite U. Then we find that in the case of on-resonance and zero Coulomb interaction, the 1 / 2 signature of MZM at zero energy survives, but the number of peaks in spectral function is dependent on the local large spin. When S = integer, the peak numbers are 2 S + 3 ; when S = half-integer, the numbers are 2 S + 2 . Moreover, fraction conductivity arises in the charge conductance at zero energy for S = integer. When Coulomb correlation arises, the peak numbers and heights in conductance are affected, and the MZM-induced symmetry of conductance peaks around zero energy is also destroyed. Our work shows that the interplay of local large spin and MZM generates some interesting results, which may provide additional fingerprints for the detection of MZM.

OBJECTIVES: Cervical cancer remains a common public health problem, despite its reduced morbidity and mortality. Exploring diverse prevention and treatment methods is essential. The aim of this meta-analysis was to evaluate the association between folic acid intake and status and the risk of cervical cancer, and discuss the feasibility of folic acid supplement. METHODS: We identified 369 articles via Ovid MEDLINE, Embase, PubMed, Springer, up to January 2019. Inclusion criteria were case-control study or RCT; folate intake or level was determined; outcomes included CIN and/or cervical cancer; correlations between folate and CIN/cervical cancer were studied; original data were obtained or calculated. We also performed these analyses within groups of studies defined by the following design characteristics: disease outcome (cervical intraepithelial neoplasia CIN, cervical cancer CC), samples resource (serum, plasma, red blood cell, diet record), location (European and American countries, Asian countries). All statistical calculations were performed using R Project software. RESULTS: Twenty-two case-control studies and four RCTs were included in the meta- analysis. From 22 case-control studies, there was a strong correlation between folate deficiency and risk of CIN or cancer (OR = 1.46, 95% CI [1.30, 1.63]).
