In the suspension cage culture process, regular cleaning to remove epiphytic organisms from the cage is essential to prevent economic losses due to the sinking of the cage. However, after cleaning, many of attachments from the suspension cage accumulate in the tidal flats, causing environmental pollution and resource wastage. Moreover, because sea cucumbers (Apostichopus japonicus) are sedimentary food organisms, sea mud is typically added to their feed to varying degrees. However, long-term excavation of sea mud can destroy the marine environment. Therefore, developing an alternative new raw feed material to replace sea mud in sea cucumber feed is necessary to promote sustainable development of the A. japonicus aquaculture industry. The aim of this study was to explore the feasibility of using fermented attachments of suspension cage (FASC) as a raw feed material for A. japonicus. Different FASC concentrations (0, 25, 50, 75, and 100 %) were used in A. japonicus feed for 60 d. Replacing Sea mud with 100 % FASC significantly improved sea cucumber growth, reduced the feed coefficient, significantly increased the activity of intestinal digestive enzymes, improved intestinal structure, and enriched intestinal microbiome diversity. Furthermore, expressions of growth genes mapk-7 and fgfr-1 significantly increased in the 100 % FASC treatment compared with that in the control, and that of negative growth regulator gene gdf-8 was inhibited. The results suggested the potential of FASC as a new raw feed material for A. japonicus.

Abstract Uterine myomas are the most common pelvic tumors in women, which can lead to abnormal uterine bleeding, abdominal pain, pelvic compression symptoms, infertility, or adverse pregnancy. In this article, we provide a dataset named uterine myoma MRI dataset (UMD), which can be used for clinical research on uterine myoma imaging. The UMD is the largest publicly available uterine MRI dataset to date including 300 cases of uterine myoma T2-weighted imaging (T2WI) sagittal patient images and their corresponding annotation files. The UMD covers 9 types of uterine myomas classified by the International Federation of Obstetrics and Gynecology (FIGO), which were annotated and reviewed by 11 experienced doctors to ensure the authority of the annotated data. The UMD is helpful for uterine myomas classification and uterine 3D reconstruction tasks, which has important implications for clinical research on uterine myomas.

Abstract Future colliders aim to provide highly precise experimental measurements of the properties of the Higgs boson. In order to benefit from these precision machines, theoretical errors in the Higgs sector observables have to match at least the experimental uncertainties. The theoretical uncertainties in the Higgs sector observables can be reduced by including missing higher-order terms in their perturbative calculations. In this direction, we compute the mixed QCD-electroweak corrections at $$\mathcal{O}\left({\alpha \alpha }_{s}\right)$$ to the Higgs decay into four charged leptons by considering the golden decay channel, H → e + e − μ + μ − . Due to color conservation, these corrections receive contributions only from the two-loop virtual diagrams. In the complex mass scheme, we find that the mixed QCD-electroweak corrections to the partial decay width, relative to the leading order predictions, are positive and about 0.27% for α s (M Z ). Relative to the next-to-leading order electroweak corrections, the mixed QCD-electroweak corrections are found to be approximately 18% for α s (M Z ). With respect to the leading order, we observe a flat effect of the mixed QCD-electroweak corrections on the invariant mass distribution of the lepton pairs with fixed QCD coupling. The ϕ distribution, due to the mixed QCD-electroweak corrections, follows a (1 − cos ϕ) dependence.

IntroductionScutellariae Radix (SR), derived from the root of Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi, is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) for clearing heat and cooling blood. It has been used as a traditional herbal medicine and is popular as a functional food in Asian countries today.MethodsIn this study, UPLC-Q-TOF-MS was first employed to identify the chemical components in the ethanol extract of SR. Then, the extraction process was optimized using star point design-response surface methodology. Fingerprints of different batches and processed products were established, and chemical markers were screened through a combination of various artificial neural network models. Finally, network pharmacology and molecular simulation techniques were utilized for verification to determine the quality markers.ResultsA total of 35 chemical components in SR were identified, and the optimal extraction process was determined as follows: ultrasonic extraction with 80% methanol at a ratio of 120:1 for 70 minutes, with a soaking time of 30 minutes. Through discriminant analysis using various artificial neural network models, the samples of SR could be classified into two categories based on their growth years: Kuqin (dried roots of older plants) and Ziqin (roots of younger plants). Moreover, the samples within each category could be further clustered according to their origins. The four different processed products of SR could also be distinguished separately. Finally, through the integration of network pharmacology and molecular simulation techniques, it was determined that baicalin, baicalein, wogonin, norwogonin, norwogonin-8-O-glucuronide, skullcapflavone II, hispidulin, 8, 8"-bibaicalein, and oroxylin A-7-O-beta-D-glucuronide could serve as quality markers for SR.DiscussionThe primary factors affecting the quality of SR were its growth years. The geographic origin of SR was identified as a secondary factor affecting its quality. Processing also had a significant impact on its quality. The selected quality markers have laid the foundation for the quality control of SR, and this research strategy also provides a research paradigm for improving the quality of TCM.

ABSTRACT: Avian leukosis virus subgroup K (ALV-K) is composed of newly emerging isolates, which cluster separately from the well-characterized subgroups A, B, C, D, E, and J in sequence analysis, and exhibits a specific host range and a unique pattern of superinfection interference. Avian leukosis virus subgroup K replicate more slowly in avian cells than other ALV strains, leading to escaped detection during ALV eradication, but the underlying mechanism are largely unknown. In our previous study, we have reported that JS11C1 and most of other suspected ALV-K strains possessed unique mutations in the U3 region. Here, we selected 5 mutations in some important transcriptional regulation elements to explore the possible factor contributing for the lower activity of LTR, including CA-TG mutation in the CAAT box, 21 nt deletion in the CAAT box, A-G and A-T mutations in the CArG boxes, 11 nt insertion in the PRE boxes, and C-T mutation in the TATA box. On the basis of infectious clone of JS11C1, we demonstrated that the 11 nt fragment in the PRE boxes was associated with the transcription activity of LTR, the enhancer ability of U3, and the replication capacity of the virus. Notably, we determined the differential U3-protein interaction profile of ALVs and found that the 11 nt fragment specifically binds to cellular SERPINE1 mRNA binding protein 1 (SERBP1) to increase the LTR activity and enhance virus replication. Collectively, these findings reveal that a 11 nt fragment in the U3 gene contributed to its binding ability to the cellular SERBP1 to enhance its transcription and the infectious virus productions in avian cells. This study highlighted the vital role of host factor in retrovirus replication and thus provides a new perspective to elucidate the interaction between retrovirus and its host and a molecular basis to develop efficient strategies against retroviruses.

Abstract A muon collider would enable the big jump ahead in energy reach that is needed for a fruitful exploration of fundamental interactions. The challenges of producing muon collisions at high luminosity and 10 TeV centre of mass energy are being investigated by the recently-formed International Muon Collider Collaboration. This Review summarises the status and the recent advances on muon colliders design, physics and detector studies. The aim is to provide a global perspective of the field and to outline directions for future work.

Trigger-activatable antisense oligonucleotides have been widely applied to regulate gene function. Among them, caged cyclic antisense oligonucleotides (cASOs) maintain a specific topology that temporarily inhibits their interaction with target genes. By inserting linkers that respond to cell-specific endogenous stimuli, they can be powerful tools and potential therapeutic agents for specific types of cancer cells with low off-target effects on normal cells. Here, we developed enzyme-activatable cASOs by tethering two terminals of linear antisense oligonucleotides through a cathepsin B (CB) substrate peptide (Gly-Phe-Leu-Gly [GFLG]), which could be efficiently uncaged by CB. CB-activatable cASOs were used to successfully knock down two disease-related endogenous genes in CB-abundant PC-3 tumor cells at the mRNA and protein levels but had much less effect on gene knockdown in CB-deficient human umbilical vein endothelial cell (HUVECs). In addition, reduced nonspecific immunostimulation was found using cASOs compared with their linear counterparts. Further in vivo studies indicated that CB-activatable cASOs showed effective tumor inhibition in PC-3 tumor model mice through downregulation of translationally controlled tumor protein (TCTP) protein in tumors. This study applies endogenous enzyme-activatable cASOs for antitumor therapy in tumor model mice, which demonstrates a promising stimulus-responsive cASO strategy for cell-specific gene knockdown upon endogenous activation and ASO prodrug development.

Abstract Dark Matter is a necessary ingredient for a complete theory of Nature, which has so far remained elusive in laboratory searches for new particles. Searches at current and future colliders are in principle a promising way to search for electroweak charged dark matter particles, but the sensitivity of experiments at the LHC and future pp colliders falls short to fully probe the whole mass range allowed for electroweak charged dark matter particles, which extends in principle up to the O(0.1) PeV. In this work we examine the effect of on-shell and off-shell propagation of electroweak charged thermal dark matter particles on integrated and differential rates of several Standard Model final states at the muon collider, considering candidates from weak 2-plet at the TeV scale up to 7-plet and 9-plet in the O(0.1) PeV ballpark. For fermionic WIMPs we find that all dark matter candidates with $$n\le 5$$ n ≤ 5 , corresponding to a thermal mass up to 14 TeV, can be probed at the high-energy muon collider for some center-of-mass energy at or below 14 TeV. For the $$n>5$$ n > 5 WIMPs our results show that higher energy muon colliders offer a route to conclusively probe both scalar and fermionic WIMPs off-shell production all the way up to the perturbativity bound for WIMP dark matter at O(0.1) PeV. Our results bring WIMPs over the whole allowed mass range in the realm of collider searches and motivate research and development for the realization of a high energy muon collider.

Abstract With the awakening of health awareness, people are raising a series of health-related requirements for the buildings they live in, with a view to improving their living conditions. In this context, BIM (Building Information Modeling) makes full use of cutting-edge theories and technologies in many domains such as health, environment, and information technology to provide a new way for engineers to design and build various healthy and green buildings. Specifically, sensors are playing an important role in achieving smart building goals by monitoring the surroundings of buildings, objects and people with the help of cloud computing technology. In addition, it is necessary to quickly determine the optimal sensor placement to save energy and minimize the number of sensors for a building, which is a de-trial task for the cloud platform due to the limited number of sensors available and massive candidate locations for each sensor. In this paper, we propose a Fast Sensor Placement Location Optimization approach (FSPLO) to solve the BIM problem in cloud-aided smart buildings. In particular, we quickly filter out the repeated candidate locations of sensors in FSPLO using Locality Sensitive Hashing (LSH) techniques to maintain only a small number of optimized locations for deploying sensors around buildings. In this way, we can significantly reduce the number of sensors used for health and green buildings. Finally, a set of simulation experiments demonstrates the excellent performance of our proposed FSPLO method.

Abstract We compute the QCD corrections at next-to-leading order for the process gg → ZH, including both the virtual two-loop terms and real-emission contributions. The two-loop box diagrams in the virtual corrections are approximated analytically over the complete phase space, combining the results of an expansion in the limit of small transverse momentum and an expansion in the regime of high energy. We obtain both inclusive and differential results for the cross section. We find that the NLO QCD corrections are of the same size as the LO contribution up to ZH invariant masses close to 1 TeV, but they increase significantly when higher energies are considered, due to a class of real-emission diagrams in which the Z boson is radiated from an open quark line. Finally, we estimate the uncertainty due to the renormalization scheme used for the top-quark mass both on the total and differential cross section.

Androgenetic alopecia is an androgen-dependent skin disorder that commonly affects hair follicle growth and hair loss. Gene therapy that can promote the proliferation and survival of hair follicle cells can be a potential choice for its cure. While transdermal application of therapeutic functional nucleic acids across the stratum corneum is quite difficult. Here, we first develop a transdermal agent for functional nucleic acid delivery using Triton X-100-modified low molecular weight polyethyleneimine (PEI-Triton-N, N ​= ​6 or 8). In vitro cell experiments demonstrate that the PEI-Triton-N conjugates can stably encapsulate and efficiently deliver plasmid DNA to hard-to-transfect keratinocyte HaCaT cells. Further mouse model studies show that PEI-Triton-6 can encapsulate and deliver growth arrest-specific protein 6 (Gas6) plasmid through transdermal administration. The transfected Gas6 prolongs the anagen status, inhibits the apoptosis of hair follicle cells, and further promotes the proliferation and differentiation of hair follicle cells. The PEI-Triton-6/pDNAGas6 complexes can obviously alleviate hair loss in androgenetic alopecia mice and provides a promising strategy for gene therapy via transdermal administration.

With the development of mobile communication technology, persuasive technology is widely used in mobile health. Using personalized persuasive strategies in mobile health education (MHE) apps can effectively improve users’ health literacy and health behaviors. The transtheoretical model explains the process of user behavior change. Different usage frequency of the app reflects changes in user behavior. However, few studies have examined how the perceived importance of persuasive strategies among older adults changes with increasing use frequency. In this study, we analyzed the sensitivity of 111 older adults in China to persuasive strategies in MHE apps. Thirteen persuasive strategies were selected for this study. A repeated measure analysis of variance (RM-ANOVA) was used to demonstrate the influence of gender, health information attention and frequency of use on the sensitivity of perceived persuasive strategies among older adults. The results revealed older adults with a high usage frequency of health apps were more receptive to persuasive strategies, especially in social comparison strategy. This result may help developers consider factors such as the frequency of use by older users when designing personalized persuasive strategies for MHE apps.

The outbreak of milky disease of Chinese mitten crab caused by M. bicuspidata seriously restricted the development of the crab industry. In this study, the mitochondrial genome sequence of M. bicuspidata was assembled, annotated, and further analyzed. The results indicated that the complete mitochondrial genome of M. bicuspidata was 75,095 bp, which contained two rRNAs, 23 tRNAs, and 13 protein-coding genes. The phylogenetic tree of 13 yeasts based on the complete mitochondrial genome was constructed which showed that M. bicuspidata (accession number OK514652) and M. bicuspidata (accession number MW147605.1) were clustered in a clade. To sum up, our research results would further provide essential data for the systematics and evolution study of M. bicuspidata.

Medical image segmentation can effectively identify lesions in medicine, but some small and rare lesions cannot be well identified. Existing studies do not take into account the uncertainty of the occurrence of diseased tissue, and the problem of long-tailed distribution of medical data. Meanwhile, the grayscale image obtained from Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) detection has problems, such as the features being difficult to extract and invalid features being difficult to distinguish. In order to solve these problems, we propose a new weighted attention ResUNet (WA-ResUNet) and a class weight formula based on the number of images contained in the class, which improves the performance of the model in the low-frequency class and the overall effect of the model by improving the degree of attention paid to the valid features and invalid ones and rebalancing the learning efficiency among the classes. We evaluated our method on an uterine MRI dataset and compared it with the ResUNet. WA-ResUNet increased Intersection over Union (IoU) in the low-frequency class (Nabothian cysts) by 21.87%, and the overall mIoU increased by more than 6.5%.

Our knowledge of the vertical variabilities in turbulence and ozone perturbation in the free atmosphere is severely limited because of the scarcity of high-resolution observation data. Based on the Thorpe method, a new set of sounding data in Shanghai, China, was used herein to analyze the distributions of turbulence and ozone perturbation. The region in which turbulence activity is relatively frequent spans from 5-15 km in the middle and upper troposphere. Due to the combined action of large wind shear and thermal convection, the low-troposphere stratification conditions are conducive to the generation of large-scale turbulence. Turbulence has a certain effect on atmospheric ozone concentration exchanges; in most regions located near turbulence, ozone partial pressure perturbations occur. In the troposphere, the ozone profile is most influenced by atmospheric static instability, while in the stratosphere, both wind shear and thermal convection play important roles in the emergence of ozone perturbations.

Abstract We study the observability of new interactions which modify Higgs-pair production via vector-boson fusion processes at the LHC and at future proton-proton colliders. In an effective-Lagrangian approach, we explore in particular the effect of the operator h 2 W μν a W a , μν $$ {h}^2{W}_{\mu \nu}^a{W}^{a,\mu \nu} $$ , which describes the interaction of the Higgs boson with transverse vector-boson polarization modes. By tagging highly boosted Higgs bosons in the final state, we determine projected bounds for the coefficient of this operator at the LHC and at a future 27 TeV or 100 TeV collider. Taking into account unitarity constraints, we estimate the new-physics discovery potential of Higgs pair production in this channel.

Underwater video object detection is a challenging task due to the poor quality of underwater videos, including blurriness and low contrast. In recent years, Yolo series models have been widely applied to underwater video object detection. However, these models perform poorly for blurry and low-contrast underwater videos. Additionally, they fail to account for the contextual relationships between the frame-level results. To address these challenges, we propose a video object detection model named UWV-Yolox. First, the Contrast Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization method is used to augment the underwater videos. Then, a new CSP_CA module is proposed by adding Coordinate Attention to the backbone of the model to augment the representations of objects of interest. Next, a new loss function is proposed, including regression and jitter loss. Finally, a frame-level optimization module is proposed to optimize the detection results by utilizing the relationship between neighboring frames in videos, improving the video detection performance. To evaluate the performance of our model, We construct experiments on the UVODD dataset built in the paper, and select mAP@0.5 as the evaluation metric. The mAP@0.5 of the UWV-Yolox model reaches 89.0%, which is 3.2% better than the original Yolox model. Furthermore, compared with other object detection models, the UWV-Yolox model has more stable predictions for objects, and our improvements can be flexibly applied to other models.

Uterine myomas affect 70% of women of reproductive age, potentially impacting their fertility and health. Manual film reading is commonly used to identify uterine myomas, but it is time-consuming, laborious, and subjective. Clinical treatment requires the consideration of the positional relationship among the uterine wall, uterine cavity, and uterine myomas. However, due to their complex and variable shapes, the low contrast of adjacent tissues or organs, and indistinguishable edges, accurately identifying them in MRI is difficult. Our work addresses these challenges by proposing an instance segmentation network capable of automatically outputting the location, category, and masks of each organ and lesion. Specifically, we designed a new backbone that facilitates learning the shape features of object diversity, and filters out background noise interference. We optimized the anchor box generation strategy to provide better priors in order to enhance the process of bounding box prediction and regression. An adaptive iterative subdivision strategy ensures that the mask boundary details of objects are more realistic and accurate. We conducted extensive experiments to validate our network, which achieved better average precision (AP) results than those of state-of-the-art instance segmentation models. Compared to the baseline network, our model improved AP on the uterine wall, uterine cavity, and myomas by 8.8%, 8.4%, and 3.2%, respectively. Our work is the first to realize multiclass instance segmentation in uterine MRI, providing a convenient and objective reference for the clinical development of appropriate surgical plans, and has significant value in improving diagnostic efficiency and realizing the automatic auxiliary diagnosis of uterine myomas.

Abstract High-energy lepton colliders with a centre-of-mass energy in the multi-TeV range are currently considered among the most challenging and far-reaching future accelerator projects. Studies performed so far have mostly focused on the reach for new phenomena in lepton-antilepton annihilation channels. In this work we observe that starting from collider energies of a few TeV, electroweak (EW) vector boson fusion/scattering (VBF) at lepton colliders becomes the dominant production mode for all Standard Model processes relevant to studying the EW sector. In many cases we find that this also holds for new physics. We quantify the size and the growth of VBF cross sections with collider energy for a number of SM and new physics processes. By considering luminosity scenarios achievable at a muon collider, we conclude that such a machine would effectively be a “high-luminosity weak boson collider,” and subsequently offer a wide range of opportunities to precisely measure EW and Higgs couplings as well as discover new particles.

Sea cucumber (Apostichopus japonicus) is considered to be an important food and nourishing ingredient in Asian cuisine, but consumers are vulnerable to food safety risks because of eating customs and breeding conditions. Three isolates (CH, HB, and WH) of Bacillus cereus were obtained from sea cucumbers in three coastal aquaculture areas in northeastern China. We performed whole genome sequencing and the complete genome of each isolate was composed of one circular chromosome, which was further analyzed. COG functional categories, pathogenic bacteria virulence factors and evolutionary relationships were investigated. Virulence factor database (VFDB) analysis demonstrated that all three B. cereus isolates possessed multiple potential virulence factors, which indicates the urgent need to improve microbial detection in aquatic products to ensure seafood security in China.

As a kind of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) which possess large specific surface area and excellent thermal stability, zeolitic imidazolate framework-67 (ZIF-67) shows great application potentials because it can be synthesized in aqueous solutions at room temperature. In this work, we propose a synergistic strategy by taking advantages of polyetherimide (PEI) and ZIF-67 to enhance the interfacial strength of carbon fiber (CF) reinforced polyetheretherketone (PEEK) composites via a facile route. The bare CF is simply immersed into PEI solution and the aqueous solution of ZIF-67 precursors stepwise at room temperature to wrap PEI intermediate sizing layer and in situ grow ZIF-67 crystals. The surface morphology of CF indicates that regulating the concentration of PEI sizing agents can control the relative amount of ZIF-67 adhered onto CF surface. After modification, the tensile strength of single CF shows no deterioration and the interfacial shear strength (IFSS) of as-prepared modified CF/PEEK reveals an increase of 40.5%. Besides, the enhanced interfacial interaction mechanism might be ascribed to miscible feature of PEI with PEEK and rough structure from ZIF-67. This work may shed some light on establishing a facile and effective synthetic approach to modify CF and improve the performance of composites without degrading the mechanical property of pristine CF. Abstract We present a sensitivity study on the cubic and quartic self couplings in double Higgs production via gluon fusion at hadron colliders. Considering the relevant operators in the Standard Model Effective Field Theory up to dimension eight, we calculate the dominant contributions up to two-loop level, where the first dependence on the quartic interaction appears. Our approach allows to study the independent variations of the two self couplings and to clearly identify the terms necessary to satisfy gauge invariance and to obtain UV-finite results order by order in perturbation theory. We focus on the b b ¯ γ γ $$ b\overline{b}\gamma \gamma $$ signature for simplicity and provide the expected bounds for the cubic and quartic self couplings at the 14 TeV LHC with 3000 fb−1 (HL-LHC) and for a future 100 TeV collider (FCC-100) with 30 ab−1. We find that while the HL-LHC will provide very limited sensitivity on the quartic self coupling, precision measurements of double Higgs production at a FCC-100 will offer the opportunity to set competitive bounds. We show that combining information from double and triple Higgs production leads to significantly improved prospects for the determination of the quartic self coupling.

Abstract The computation of Feynman integrals is often the bottleneck of multi-loop calculations. We propose and implement a new method to efficiently evaluate such integrals in the physical region through the numerical integration of a suitable set of differential equations, where the initial conditions are provided in the unphysical region via the sector decomposition method. We present numerical results for a set of two-loop integrals, where the non-planar ones complete the master integrals for gg → γγ and q q ¯ $$ q\overline{q} $$ → γγ scattering mediated by the top quark.

Abstract The scattering equations are a set of algebraic equations connecting the kinematic space of massless particles and the moduli space of Riemann spheres with marked points. We present an efficient method for solving the scattering equations based on the numerical algebraic geometry. The cornerstone of our method is the concept of the physical homotopy between different points in the kinematic space, which naturally induces a homotopy of the scattering equations. As a result, the solutions of the scattering equations with different points in the kinematic space can be tracked from each other. Finally, with the help of soft limits, all solutions can be bootstrapped from the known solution for the four-particle scattering.

Physalis alkekengi L. var. franchetii (PALF) is a traditional Chinese medicine, which is well known for its antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, and expectorant properties. Its fruits and fruiting calyxes are used as dietary supplements and traditional herbs in China. However, the quality of calyxes is uneven, and it is prone to getting moldy or moth-eaten during storage. High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) fingerprints and multivariate chemometric methods were combined to evaluate quality, and three representative compounds were chosen as the quality markers (Q-markers). Hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA) and principal component analysis (PCA) provided a clear discrimination of PALF samples. Through further verification by partial least squares discriminant analysis (PLS-DA), backpropagation artificial neural network (BP-ANN), machine learning, and combination with the determination of the content, biology, and pharmacology effect judgment, galuteolin, rutin, and physalin O could be used as Q-markers that their contents affect the quality of PALF grade evaluation. A simple method was established to rapidly assess the quality of PALF that is important for its clinical application and storage and provide a reference for evaluating the quality of materials used in Chinese medicine.

Abstract We study the sensitivity to the shape of the Higgs potential of single, double, and triple Higgs production at future e + e − colliders. Physics beyond the Standard Model is parameterised through the inclusion of higher-dimensional operators (Φ†Φ−v 2 /2) n /Λ(2n−4) with n = 3, 4, which allows a consistent treatment of independent deviations of the cubic and quartic self-couplings beyond the tree level. We calculate the effects induced by a modified potential up to one loop in single and double Higgs production and at the tree level in triple Higgs production, for both Z boson associated and W boson fusion production mechanisms. We consider two different scenarios. First, the dimension six operator provides the dominant contribution (as expected, for instance, in a linear effective-field-theory (EFT)); we find in this case that the corresponding Wilson coefficient can be determined at O10% $$ \mathcal{O}\left(10\%\right) $$ accuracy by just combining accurate measurements of single Higgs cross sections at s^=240−250 $$ \sqrt{\widehat{s}}=240-250 $$ GeV and double Higgs production in W boson fusion at higher energies. Second, both operators of dimension six and eight can give effects of similar order, i.e., independent quartic self-coupling deviations are present. Constraints on Wilson coefficients can be best tested by combining measurements from single, double and triple Higgs production. Given that the sensitivity of single Higgs production to the dimension eight operator is presently unknown, we consider double and triple Higgs production and show that combining their information colliders at higher energies will provide first coarse constraints on the corresponding Wilson coefficient.

Abstract We study one-loop effects induced by an anomalous Higgs trilinear coupling on total and differential rates for the $$H\rightarrow 4\ell $$ H → 4 ℓ decay and some of the main single-Higgs production channels at the LHC, namely, VBF, VH, $$t{\bar{t}}H$$ t t ¯ H and tHj. Our results are based on a public code that calculates these effects by simply reweighting samples of Standard-Model-like events for a given production channel. For VH and $$t{\bar{t}}H$$ t t ¯ H production, where differential effects are particularly relevant, we include Standard Model electroweak corrections, which have similar sizes but different kinematic dependences. Finally, we study the sensitivity of future LHC runs to determine the trilinear coupling via inclusive and differential measurements, considering also the case where the Higgs couplings to vector bosons and the top quark is affected by new physics. We find that the constraints on the couplings and the relevance of differential distributions critically depend on the expected experimental and theoretical uncertainties.

Abstract We explore the potential for the discovery of the triple-Higgs signal in the decay channel at a 100 TeV hadron collider. We consider both the Standard Model and generic new-physics contributions, described by an effective Lagrangian that includes higher-dimensional operators. The selected subset of operators is motivated by composite-Higgs and Higgs-inflation models. In the Standard Model, we perform both a parton-level and a detector-level analysis. Although the parton-level results are encouraging, the detector-level results demonstrate that this mode is really challenging. However, sizable contributions from new effective operators can largely increase the cross section and/or modify the kinematics of the Higgs bosons in the final state. Taking into account the projected constraints from single and double Higgs-boson production, we propose benchmark points in the new physics models for the measurement of the triple-Higgs boson final state for future collider projects.

Dredge pumps are usually operated at part-load conditions, in which the low-solidity centrifugal impeller could experience large internal energy dissipation, related to flow separation and vortices. In this study, SST k-ω and SAS-SST turbulence models were used, in steady and unsteady simulations, for a low-head centrifugal pump with a three-bladed impeller. The main focus of the present work was to investigate the internal energy dissipation in rotating an impeller at part-load operating conditions, related to flow separation and stall. The unsteady nature of these operating conditions was investigated. Performance experiments and transient wall pressure measurements were conducted for validation. A methodology for internal energy dissipation analysis has been proposed; and the unsteady pressure fluctuations were analyzed in the rotating impeller. The internal power losses in the volute and the impeller were mostly found in the centrifugal pump. The rotating stall phenomenon occurred with flow separation and detachment at the part-load operating condition, leading to a dissipation of the internal energy in the impeller. The rotating impeller experienced pressure fluctuations with low frequencies, at part-load operating conditions, while in the design operating condition only experienced rotating frequency.

In fluid machineries, the flow energy dissipates by transforming into internal energy which performs as the temperature changes. The flow-induced noise is another form that flow energy turns into. These energy dissipations are related to the local flow regime but this is not quantitatively clear. In turbomachineries, the flow regime becomes pulsating and much more complex due to rotor-stator interaction. To quantitatively understand the energy dissipations during rotor-stator interaction, the centrifugal air pump with a vaned diffuser is studied based on total energy modeling, turbulence modeling and acoustic analogy method. The numerical method is verified based on experimental data and applied to further simulation and analysis. The diffuser blade leading-edge site is under the influence of impeller trailing-edge wake. The diffuser channel flow is found periodically fluctuating with separations from the blade convex side. Stall vortex is found on the diffuser blade trailing-edge near outlet. High energy loss coefficient sites are found in the undesirable flow regions above. Flow-induced noise is also high in these sites except in the stall vortex. Frequency analyses show that the impeller blade frequency dominates in the diffuser channel flow except in the outlet stall vortexes. These stall vortices keep their own stall frequency which is about 1/5 impeller frequency with high energy loss coefficient but low noise level. Results comparatively prove the energy dissipation mechanism in the centrifugal air pump under rotor-stator interaction. Results also provide the quantitative basis for turbomachinery’s loss reduction design.

Myocardial ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury interferes with the restoration of blood flow to ischemic myocardium. Oxidative stress-elicited apoptosis has been reported to contribute to I/R injury. The characteristics of convective clouds on infrared brightness temperature (BTIR) and brightness temperature difference (BTD) image were analyzed using successive Infrared and Visible Spin-Scan Radiometer (VISSR) data of FY-2, and an integrated detection method of convective clouds using infrared multi-thresholds in combination with tracking techniques was implemented. In this method, BT and BTD thresholds are used to detect severe convection and uncertain clouds, then the tracking technique including overlap ratio, minimum BT change and cross-correlation coefficient is used to detect convection activities in uncertain clouds. The Application test results show that our integrated detection method can effectively detect convective clouds in different life periods, which show a better performance than any single step in it. The statistical results show that the α-type clouds are mostly large-scale systems, and the β- and γ-type clouds have the highest proportion of general type. However, the proportion of weak convective cloud is higher than that of severe ones in γ-type cloud, and an opposite result is found in the β-type.

In order to monitor nighttime particular matter (PM) air quality in urban area, a back propagation neural network (BP neural network) inversion model is established, using low-light radiation data from the day/night band (DNB) of the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) aboard the Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership (S-NPP) satellite. The study focuses on the moonless and cloudless nights in Beijing during March–May 2015. A test is carried out by selecting surface PM2.5 data from 12 PM2.5 automatic monitoring stations and the corresponding night city light intensity from DNB. As indicated by the results, the linear correlation coefficient (R) between the results and the corresponding measured surface PM2.5 concentration is 0.91, and the root-mean-square error (RMSE) is 14.02 μg/m3 with the average of 59.39 μg/m3. Furthermore, the BP neural network model shows better accuracy when air relative humility ranges from 40% to 80% and surface PM2.5 concentration exceeds 40 μg/m3. The study provides a superiority approach for monitoring PM2.5 air quality from space with visible light remote sensing data at night.

Lin28, a highly conserved carcinogenic protein, plays an important role in the generation of cancer stem cells, contributing to the unfavorable prognosis of cancer patients. This RNA binding protein specifically binds to pri/pre-microRNA (miRNA) lethal-7 (let-7), impeding its miRNA maturation. The reduced expression of tumor suppressor miRNA let-7 fosters development and progression-related traits such as proliferation, invasion, metastasis, and drug resistance. We report a series of miRNA-based Lin28A-miRNA proteolysis-targeting chimeras (Lin28A-miRNA-PROTACs) designed to efficiently degrade Lin28A through a ubiquitin-proteasome-dependent mechanism, resulting in up-regulation of mature let-7 family. The augmented levels of matured let-7 miRNAs further exert inhibitory effects on cancer cell proliferation and migration, and increase its sensitivity to chemotherapy. In a mouse ectopic tumor model, Lin28A-miRNA-PROTAC demonstrates a substantial efficacy in inhibiting tumor growth. When combined with tamoxifen, the tumors exhibit gradual regression. This study displays an effective miRNA-based PROTACs to degrade Lin28A and inhibit tumor growth, providing a promising therapeutic avenue for cancer treatment with miRNA-based therapy.
