Most of the sports underwear available is sewn using cutting and sewing techniques. During the exercise process, it is easy to cause discomfort to the skin due to repeated friction at the seam, and at the same time, it is also a waste of manpower and raw material costs. In order to address these issues present in existing sports underwear, during its design and development, combined with fully forming knitting technology, construction process model, so as to realize the integrated knitting of sports underwear. First of all, through the characteristics of the local style of sports underwear, the key points of its prototype were probed. Second, on this basis, its process model was established, including the forming methods and knitting rules of the body, shoulder collar, and bottom circumference. Finally, the feasibility of the technological model is proved by the braiding of a fully formed sports underwear. The change in the body size can be achieved by using the two-side braiding transfer method. The curve contour of the shoulder and neck can be obtained by using the triangular polyline segmentation method. The bottom part is divided into a cylinder part and a supporting part. The local braiding method is used to achieve the knitting. This study puts forward a process model and application method of fully formed sports underwear, which provides a certain method and reference for the design and production of fully formed sports underwear.

With the increasing impacts of climate change and resource depletion, dielectric capacitors, with their exceptional stability, fast charging and discharging rates, and ability to operate under more extreme conditions, are emerging as promising high-demand candidates for high-performance energy storage devices, distinguishing them from traditional electrochemical capacitors and batteries. However, due to the shortcomings of various dielectric ceramics (e.g., paraelectrics (PEs), ferroelectrics (FEs), and antiferroelectrics (AFEs)), their low polarizability, low breakdown strength (BDS), and large hysteresis loss limit their standalone use in the advancement of energy storage ceramics. Therefore, synthesizing novel perovskite-based materials that exhibit high energy density, high energy efficiency, and low loss is crucial for achieving superior energy storage performance. In this review, we outline the recent development of perovskite-based ferroelectric energy storage ceramics from the perspective of combinatorial optimization for tailoring ferroelectric hysteresis loops and comprehensively discuss the properties arising from the different combinations of components. We also provide future guidelines in this realm. Therefore, the combinatorial optimization strategy in this review will open up a practical route toward the application of new high-performance ferroelectric energy storage devices.

Inspired by the idea of Ma et al. (Journal of the Franklin Institute, 2018), we adopt relaxation technique and introduce relaxation factors into the gradient based iterative (GI) algorithm, and the relaxed based iterative (RGI) algorithm is established to solve the generalized coupled complex conjugate and transpose Sylvester matrix equations. By applying the real representation and straighten operation, we contain the sufficient and necessary condition for convergence of the RGI method. In order to effectively utilize this algorithm, we further derive the optimal convergence parameter and some related conclusions. Moreover, to overcome the high dimension calculation problem, a sufficient condition for convergence with less computational complexity is determined. Finally, numerical examples are reported to demonstrate the availability and superiority of the constructed iterative algorithm.

Dysregulated lipid metabolism in liver is an important hallmark of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), which may be modulated by dietary polyphenols or microRNAs (miRNAs). However, the underlying epigenetic regulatory mechanism of polyphenols remain unclear. The current study aimed to address how miRNA mediates hepatic lipid metabolic control of curcumin, a polyphenolic food supplement. The results showed that 24 h treatment with 5 - 20 μM curcumin prevented free fatty acid-induced lipid accumulation by around 10 ~ 50% in HepG2 cells, which was attenuated by pre-transfection with 40 nM miR-22-3p mimic for 48 h. In consequence, transfection with 40 nM miR-22-3p inhibitor for 48 h significantly reduced lipid accumulation by around 10%. And 48 h overexpression of miR-22-3p targeting cardiolipin synthase 1 ( CRLS1 ) gene, which encodes a mitochondrial phospholipid synthase, showed a similar regulatory effect. Thus, miR-22-3p and CRLS1 showed opposite effects in modulating lipid metabolism, which probably involved mitochondrial control. In summary, this study demonstrated that curcumin improved hepatic lipid metabolism via targeting the miR-22-3p/ CRLS1 pathway. Identification of the epigenetic regulatory mechanism underlying lipid metabolism may thereby facilitate alleviation of metabolic disorders by natural polyphenols.

BackgroundInternational health policies and researchers have emphasized the value of evaluating patient-reported outcomes (PROs) in clinical studies. However, the characteristics of PROs in adult tumor clinical trials in China remain insufficiently elucidated. ObjectiveThis study aims to assess the application and characteristics of PRO instruments as primary or secondary outcomes in adult randomized clinical trials related to tumors in China. MethodsThis cross-sectional study identified tumor-focused randomized clinical trials conducted in China between January 1, 2010, and June 30, 2022. The ClinicalTrials.gov database and the Chinese Clinical Trial Registry were selected as the databases. Trials were classified into four groups based on the use of PRO instruments: (1) trials listing PRO instruments as primary outcomes, (2) trials listing PRO instruments as secondary outcomes, (3) trials listing PRO instruments as coprimary outcomes, and (4) trials without any mention of PRO instruments. Pertinent data, including study phase, settings, geographic regions, centers, participant demographics (age and sex), funding sources, intervention types, target diseases, and the names of PRO instruments, were extracted from these trials. The target diseases involved in the trials were grouped according to the American Joint Committee on Cancer Staging Manual, 8th Edition. ResultsAmong the 6445 trials examined, 2390 (37.08%) incorporated PRO instruments as part of their outcomes. Within this subset, 26.82% (641/2390) listed PRO instruments as primary outcomes, 52.72% (1260/2390) as secondary outcomes, and 20.46% (489/2390) as coprimary outcomes. Among the 2,155,306 participants included in these trials, PRO instruments were used to collect data from 613,648 (28.47%) patients as primary or secondary outcomes and from 74,287 (3.45%) patients as coprimary outcomes. The most common conditions explicitly using specified PRO instruments included thorax tumors (217/1280, 16.95%), breast tumors (176/1280, 13.75%), and lower gastrointestinal tract tumors (173/1280, 13.52%). Frequently used PRO instruments included the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Core Questionnaire–30, the visual analog scale, the numeric rating scale, the Traditional Chinese Medicine Symptom Scale, and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index. ConclusionsOver recent years, the incorporation of PROs has demonstrated an upward trajectory in adult randomized clinical trials on tumors in China. Nonetheless, the infrequent measurement of the patient’s voice remains noteworthy. Disease-specific PRO instruments should be more effectively incorporated into various tumor disease categories in clinical trials, and there is room for improvement in the inclusion of PRO instruments as clinical trial end points.

To investigate the effects of biogas slurry substitution for fertilizer on rice yield, fertilizer utilization efficiency, and soil fertility, a field experiment was conducted on rice–wheat rotation soil in the Chaohu Lake Basin for two consecutive years, with the following six treatments: no fertilization (CK), conventional fertilization (CF), optimized fertilization (OF), biogas slurry replacing 15% of fertilizer (15% OFB), biogas slurry replacing 30% of fertilizer (30% OFB), and biogas slurry replacing 50% of fertilizer (50% OFB). The field experiment results showed that, compared with CF treatment, OF treatment in 2022 and 2023 significantly increased (p < 0.05) rice yield, promoted the uptake of nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K) by grains and straws, improved fertilizer utilization efficiency, and increased the contents of soil organic C (SOC), NH4+-N, NO3−-N, hydrolysable N, and available P. The 15% OFB and 30% OFB treatments significantly increased (p < 0.05) rice grain and straw yields compared with CF treatment, and rice grain and straw yields were the highest in the 30% OFB treatment. Compared with CF and OF treatments, 30% OFB treatment significantly increased (p < 0.05) the N, P, and K uptake of grains and straws and increased the fertilizer utilization efficiency. Compared with CF treatment, the grain yield of 50% OFB treatment was significantly decreased (p < 0.05) in 2022, and there was no significant difference in 2023, which may be because the biogas slurry was applied before planting in 2023 to provide more nutrients for early rice growth. Compared with CF treatment, 30% OFB treatment significantly increased (p < 0.05) the contents of SOC, NH4+-N, available K, and hydrolysable N. In summary, optimizing N and K topdressing methods can increase rice yield and improve the fertilizer utilization efficiency and soil fertility. The 30% OFB treatment resulted in the highest rice yield, fertilizer utilization efficiency, and improved soil fertility, indicating that biogas slurry replacing 30% of fertilizer was the best application mode for rice in this region.

In this paper, it aims to model wind speed time series at multiple sites. The five-parameter Johnson distribution is deployed to relate the wind speed at each site to a Gaussian time series, and the resultant m-dimensional Gaussian stochastic vector process Z(t) is employed to model the temporal-spatial correlation of wind speeds at m different sites. In general, it is computationally tedious to obtain the autocorrelation functions (ACFs) and cross-correlation functions (CCFs) of Z(t), which are different to those of wind speed times series. In order to circumvent this correlation distortion problem, the rank ACF and rank CCF are introduced to characterize the temporal-spatial correlation of wind speeds, whereby the ACFs and CCFs of Z(t) can be analytically obtained. Then, Fourier transformation is implemented to establish the cross-spectral density matrix of Z(t), and an analytical approach is proposed to generate samples of wind speeds at m different sites. Finally, simulation experiments are performed to check the proposed methods, and the results verify that the five-parameter Johnson distribution can accurately match distribution functions of wind speeds, and the spectral representation method can well reproduce the temporal-spatial correlation of wind speeds.

In this study, the physiochemical characters including moisture content variation, pH, total soluble solids (TSS), color, ascorbic acid content, total polyphenols, and antioxidant activities of mango powder fortified with green tea polyphenols (GTP) were investigated during storage for 90 d. Our results indicated stable colors of mango powder were found after GTP addition. GTP also inhibited the destruction of ascorbic acid during processing, and decreased its degradation rate during the whole storage. The total polyphenols of mango powder stored at 4 ℃ and room temperature decreased by 37.85% and 51.79%, respectively. After addition with GTP, the total polyphenols decreased only by 7.89%, and 13.31%, respectively. The antioxidant activities rose by 1.6 to 4.6-fold after GTP addition, and it decreased at a slower rate compared to that of unfortified mango powder. Correlation analysis indicated that EGCG might be the main substance that retain the physiochemical stability of mango powder.

Electrothermal elements are used in electronic devices, physiotherapy, and health care due to their lightweight and fast temperature response. However, the high cost and susceptibility to oxidation of traditional electrothermal materials limit their application. In this work, a low-cost, environment-friendly, controllable, and high-performance natural flake graphite-based electrothermal coating is proposed that can be used in various electrothermal applications. The results demonstrate that the morphology and electrothermal properties of the coatings can be controlled based on pressure engineering and the use of various adhesives. The uncompressed electrothermal coatings can reach a maximum temperature of 157.9 °C and a maximum electric conductivity of 27.89 S/m at 36 V, whereas the compressed coatings can reach a maximum temperature of 199 °C at only 18 V and a maximum conductivity of 433.6 S/m, which is 22 times higher than the corresponding uncompressed coatings. This work provides a low-cost, high-performance, and well-attainable industrialization path for the application of natural graphite-based electrothermal coatings in indoor heating, light electrothermal clothing, and snow and ice removal.

Abstract Background Exercise is an affordable and practical strategy to alleviate several detrimental outcomes from the aging process, including sarcopenia. The elucidation of molecular mechanisms to alleviate sarcopenia is one of the most important steps towards understanding human aging. Although microRNAs (miRNAs) regulate muscle growth, regeneration and aging, the potential role of exercise‐mediated miRNAs during the prevention and rehabilitation of skeletal muscle atrophy upon exercise interventions remains unclear. Methods A miRNA profile by miRNA sequencing for gastrocnemius muscle of a 24‐month‐old aged male rat model mimicking the naturally aging process was established through screening the differentially expressed miRNAs (DEMs) for alleviating aging‐induced skeletal muscle atrophy upon optimal exercise intervention. The screened miRNAs and hub genes, as well as biomarkers with the most significantly enriched pathways, were validated by quantitative real‐time polymerase chain reaction and western blotting. Results The sarcopenia index (SI) value and cross‐sectional area (CSA) of rats from the old control (OC) group significantly decreased when compared with the youth control (YC) group (P 1) between the YC group and the OC group. Compared with the OC group, 7, 2 and 11 miRNAs were differentially expressed in the OE, OR and OM groups after exercise interventions, respectively. Meanwhile, Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) analyses revealed that the identified DEMs were primarily related to apoptosis, autophagy and the NF‐κB/MuRF1 signalling pathways (P

Abstract Double‐sided tubular machine (DSTM) is very suitable for wave energy conversion but easily suffers from high thrust ripple. In order to get the minimum cogging force with the maximum thrust force, a new DSTM with hybrid segmented permanent magnet array is proposed and optimised by a novel iterative few‐sample multi‐objective optimisation method. The novel optimisation method is based on an iterative Taguchi method framework to obtain optimal design with only few samples. To solve the low precision problem of the iterative Taguchi method, a surrogate‐model based multi‐objective optimisation algorithm that uses a general regression neural network, a speed‐constrained multi‐objective particle swarm optimisation and an exponentially weighted moving average are embedded into this framework. The optimisation result is compared with other alternative topologies and methods, and a prototype is manufactured for testing experiment.

Abstract Background Melanoma is a type of malignant tumor with high aggressiveness and poor prognosis. At present, metastasis of melanoma is still an important cause of death in melanoma patients. However, the potential functions and molecular mechanisms of most circular RNAs (circRNAs) in melanoma metastasis remain unknown. Methods circRNAs dysregulated in melanoma cell subgroups with different metastatic abilities according to a screening model based on repeated Transwell assays were identified with a circRNA array. The expression and prognostic significance of circZNF609 in skin cutaneous melanoma and acral melanoma cells and tissues were determined by qRT–PCR, nucleoplasmic separation assays and fluorescence in situ hybridization. In vitro wound healing, Transwell and 3D invasion assays were used to analyse melanoma cell metastasis ability. Tail vein injection and intrasplenic injection were used to study in vivo lung metastasis and liver metastasis, respectively. The mechanism of circZNF609 was further evaluated via RNA immunoprecipitation, RNA pull-down, silver staining, and immunofluorescence colocalization assays. Results circZNF609 was stably expressed at low levels in melanoma tissues and cells and was negatively correlated with Breslow depth, clinical stage and prognosis of melanoma patients. circZNF609 inhibited metastasis of acral and cutaneous melanoma in vivo and in vitro. Mechanistically, circZNF609 promoted the binding of FMRP protein and RAC1 mRNA, thereby enhancing the inhibitory effect of FMRP protein on the stability of RAC1 mRNA and ultimately inhibiting melanoma metastasis. Conclusions Our findings revealed that circZNF609 plays a vital role in the metastasis of acral and cutaneous melanoma through the circRNF609-FMRP-RAC1 axis and indicated that circZNF609 regulates the stability of RAC1 mRNA by combining with FMRP, which might provide insight into melanoma pathogenesis and a new potential target for treatment of melanoma.

Abstract Background Anti-programmed cell death receptor-1 (PD-1) monotherapy is the standard treatment for metastatic melanoma in current. Camrelizumab is a humanized IgG4 anti-PD-1 monoclonal antibody whose safety and efficacy have not been reported in advanced Asian melanoma patients. Methods This phase I study investigated the safety, activity, and pharmacokinetics of camrelizumab in Chinese patients with advanced melanoma. The study included two phases, the dose-escalation phase (“3 + 3” design at 60 mg, 200 mg, and 400 mg) and the dose-expansion phase. Results No dose-limiting toxicities were recorded over the dose-escalation phase, and the maximum tolerated dose was not reached. The most common treatment-related adverse events (TRAEs) in 36 patients were reactive cutaneous capillary endothelial proliferation, followed by rash, fever, hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, vitiligo, and fatigue. Five grade 3 or above TRAEs were reported (13.9%), including two cases of elevated γ-glutamyltransferase and blood triglycerides without clinical symptoms, and one liver injury recovered after symptomatic treatment. The confirmed overall response rate was 13.9% (95%CI: 4.7, 29.5%) and disease control rate was 38.9% (95%CI: 23.1, 56.5%). The median progression-free survival was 1.8 months (95%CI: 1.1, 2.4) and the median overall survival was 11.1 months (95%CI: 6.8, 15.4). Conclusions Camrelizumab had acceptable tolerability and similar anti-tumor activity compared with other anti-PD-1 antibodies in advanced Asian melanoma patients. By applying the weighted relaxation technique to the gradient-based iterative (GI) algorithm and taking proper weighted combinations of the solutions, this paper proposes the weighted, relaxed gradient-based iterative (WRGI) algorithm to solve the generalized coupled conjugate and transpose Sylvester matrix equations. With the real representation of a complex matrix as a tool, the necessary and sufficient conditions for the convergence of the WRGI algorithm are determined. Also, some sufficient convergence conditions of the WRGI algorithm are presented. Moreover, the optimal step size and the corresponding optimal convergence factor of the WRGI algorithm are given. Lastly, some numerical examples are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness, feasibility and superiority of the proposed algorithm.

Phase change material (PCM) with thermal energy storage capacity has been a hot topic due to the advantages of satisfying the demand for energy storage, saving and conversion. In this work, graphene oxide (GO) was introduced to prepare a three-dimensional (3D) continuous network of graphene aerogel (GA) via a simple hydrothermal process, and the GA was further employed to pack polyethylene glycols (PEG). Benefited from the abundant porous structure and high specific surface area, the mass fraction of PEG in the composite PCM was up to 96.0 wt%. Besides, the heat latent of the composite was 223.2 J/g, illustrating a high energy storage density. Moreover, due to the crosslinking graphene skeleton and its inherent high thermal conductivity, the heat transfer rate was enhanced to 116% of the pure PEG. This work could simultaneously solve the drawbacks of leakage and low thermal conductivity of PCM. And the composite PCM could be considered as a clean, energy-saving and recycled material in the application of building heat preservation.

Diabetes mellitus often results in several complications, such as diabetic kidney disease (DKD) and end-stage renal diseases (ESRDs). Cancer patients often have the dysregulated glucose metabolism. Abnormal glucose metabolism can enhance the tumor malignant progression. Recently, lncRNAs have been reported to regulate the key proteins and signaling pathways in DKD development and progression and in cancer patients with diabetes. In this review article, we elaborate the evidence to support the function of lncRNAs in development of DKD and diabetes-associated cancer. Moreover, we envisage that lncRNAs could be diagnosis and prognosis biomarkers for DKD and cancer patients with diabetes. Furthermore, we delineated that targeting lncRNAs might be an alternative approach for treating DKD and cancer with dysregulated glucose metabolism.

The analysis and evaluation of the service capacity of an urban public space is of great importance for optimizing spatial design and ensuring sustainable regeneration of the space. Point-of-interest (POI) data analysis is a common method for evaluating the performance of public space since it contains various geographical information about specific facilities. However, this method is incapable of providing intuitive and clear feedback on the usage of the space, such as visitor experience and satisfaction levels. In this paper, we present a hybrid approach that combines POI data with questionnaire surveys to comprehensively analyze and evaluate the service capacity of the facilities in a waterfront public space. By taking the Changning section of the Suzhou Creek in Shanghai as an example, we evaluate and verify the utilization rate and satisfaction level of public facilities based on this hybrid approach with three satisfaction factors: accessibility, landscape visual quality, and service functions. The results reveal that the service space that can be reached on foot provides the most satisfaction in terms of accessibility, followed by the space that can be reached by bicycle. When it comes to landscape visual quality, visitors are more concerned with the view around the facility than with the greenery. Regarding service functions, the service facility with beverage outlets, fitness, and small gatherings is more appealing. The proposed approach will be useful for further developing advanced public space evaluation strategies with real-time feedback capabilities, as well as for the intelligent design and long-term regeneration of future public spaces.

In this article, the security control problem of discrete-time fractional-order networked systems under denial-of-service (DoS) attacks is considered. A practically applicable finite-dimensional control strategy will be developed for fractional-order systems that possess nonlocal characteristics. By employing the Lyapunov method, it is theoretically proved that under the proposed controller, the obtained closed-loop fractional system is globally input-to-state stable (ISS), even in the presence of DoS attacks. Finally, the effectiveness of the designed control method is demonstrated by the numerical example.

The future satellite communications network architecture for 6G was analyzed, studied and imagined.Through introducing the current trends of satellite and ground communications integration, with the current research results of 6G network architecture with its vision and requirements, the technical characteristics of 6G network architecture were summarized.The key role of artificial intelligent (AI) in 6G network was deeply explored based on the research and application analysis of AI in the field of communications.Therefore, the idea of AI enabled 6G satellite communications network overall architecture, RAN architecture, core network architecture were proposed, also with step-by-step evolution and implementation.Finally, the enhanced robust mechanism of 6G satellite communication network based on block-chain was also discussed.

Electromagnetic Field (EMF) influences melanoma in various ways. EMF can be classified into extremely low-frequency electromagnetic field, low-frequency magnetic field, static moderate magnetic field, strong electromagnetic field, alternating magnetic field, and magnetic nanoparticles. Each type of EMF influences melanoma development differently, and the detailed influence of each specific type of EMF on melanoma is reviewed. Furthermore, EMF influences melanoma cell polarity and hence affects drug uptake. In this review, the impacts of EMF on the effectiveness of drugs used to treat melanoma are listed according to drug types, with detailed effects according to the types of EMF and specific melanoma cell lines. EMF also impacts clinical therapies of melanoma, including localized magnetic hyperthermia, focalized thermotherapy, proton radiation treatment, nanostructure heating magnetic hyperthermia, radiation therapy, Polycaprolactone-Fe3O4 fiber mat-based bandage, and optune therapy. Above all, EMF has huge potential in melanoma treatment.

Analsisand outlook for satellite communication access and mobility management technology in 6G network was presented.Firstly, the access technology of current global representative satellite mobile communications system was introduced, as well as the international standardization organization research status of 5G NR satellite access technology.According to the challenges for 6G satellite communications network access, some solutions regarding to 6G satellite communications access were proposed respectively from the aspects of extremely simple access, extremely intelligent access.Furthermore, according to the demand of massive terminals handoff in the high dynamic scenario of 6G satellite communications, the flexible handoff scheme based on cloud channel technology, which supported batch massive terminals mobility management for across satellites and beams, was proposed.

BackgroundTo explore the clinical characteristics and prognosis of autonomic dysfunction and paroxysmal sympathetic hyperactivity (PSH), and evaluate the efficacy of drugs used to suppress PSH episode in anti-NMDAR encephalitis patients.MethodsPatients who met the diagnostic criteria of anti-NMDAR encephalitis were enrolled from January 2012 to August 2018 and followed up for 2 years. PSH was diagnosed according to the PSH-Assessment Measure. The demographics data, clinical features, auxiliary tests results, treatments, and outcomes were prospective collected and analyzed.ResultsA total of 132 anti-NMDAR encephalitis patients were enrolled, of which 27.3% and 9.1% experienced autonomic dysfunction and probable PSH respectively. Cardiac autonomic dysfunction was the most common subtype (77.8%). Patients with a higher incidence of ovarian teratoma, mechanical ventilation, neurological intensive care unit admission, and elevated glucose and NMDAR antibody titer in the CSF were more likely to exhibit autonomic dysfunction or PSH. Episodes of PSH can be suppressed by monotherapy in patients without prior sedative drug use with an efficacy of 90%. No significant difference was observed between the prognosis of patients with or without autonomic dysfunction, or between the PSH versus non-PSH groups after 6 months and even during long-term follow-up. However, patients with cardiac autonomic dysfunction had poor prognosis at 6 months.ConclusionPSH is a common clinical condition in patients with anti-NMDAR encephalitis, especially in severe cases, and can be effectively managed by several drug monotherapies. Despite necessitating longer hospital stay, autonomic dysfunction or PSH do not seem to compromise the neurological recovery of patients.

The durable responses and favorable long-term outcomes are limited to a proportion of advanced melanoma patients treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI). Considering the critical role of antitumor immunity status in the regulation of ICI therapy responsiveness, we focused on the immune-related gene profiles and aimed to develop an individualized immune signature for predicting the benefit of ICI therapy. During the discovery phase, we integrated three published datasets of metastatic melanoma treated with anti-PD-1 (n = 120) and established an immune-related gene pair index (IRGPI) for patient classification. The IRGPI was constructed based on 31 immune-related gene pairs (IRGPs) consisting of 51 immune-related genes (IRGs). The ROC curve analysis was performed to evaluate the predictive accuracy of IRGPI with AUC = 0.854. Then, we retrospectively collected one anti-PD-1 therapy dataset of metastatic melanoma (n = 55) from Peking University Cancer Hospital (PUCH) and performed the whole-transcriptome RNA sequencing. Combined with another published dataset of metastatic melanoma received anti-CTLA-4 (VanAllen15; n = 42), we further validated the prediction accuracy of IRGPI for ICI therapy in two datasets (PUCH and VanAllen15) with AUCs of 0.737 and 0.767, respectively. Notably, the survival analyses revealed that higher IRGPI conferred poor survival outcomes in both the discovery and validation datasets. Moreover, correlation analyses of IRGPI with the immune cell infiltration and biological functions indicated that IRGPI may be an indicator of the immune status of the tumor microenvironment (TME). These findings demonstrated that IRGPI might serve as a novel marker for treating of melanoma with ICI, which needs to be validated in prospective clinical trials.

Background Mucosal melanoma is an aggressive melanoma subtype with poor response to antiprogrammed cell death-1 (PD-1) monotherapy. Axitinib in combination with toripalimab, a humanized IgG4 mAb against PD-1, showed a promising response rate in patients with metastatic mucosal melanoma (MM) in a phase Ib study. Here, we report the updated overall survival (OS), duration of response (DoR), and biomarker analysis results.Methods Patients with advanced MM received toripalimab 1 or 3 mg/kg intravenously every 2 weeks combined with axitinib 5 mg orally two times per day until disease progression or unacceptable toxicity. Tumor programmed cell death ligand-1 (PD-L1) expression, tumor mutational burden (TMB), and gene expression profile (GEP) by messenger RNA sequencing were evaluated for correlation with survival.Results As of April 2, 2021, the median follow-up was 42.5 months. Among 29 chemotherapy-naïve patients with metastatic MM, the median OS was 20.7 months (95% CI 9.7 to 32.7 months); the median progression-free survival (PFS) was 7.5 months (95% CI 3.8 to 14.8 months); and the median DoR was 13.4 months (95% CI 5.5 to 20.6 months). The OS rates of 1, 2, and 3 years were 62.1%, 44.8%, and 31.0%, respectively. Biomarker analysis found that PD-L1 expression and TMB level were not associated with survival benefits. In contrast, a 12-GEP signature correlated with improved PFS (17.7 vs 5.7 months, p=0.0083) and OS (35.6 vs 17.6 months, p=0.039).Conclusions The 3-year survival update confirmed the antitumor activity and long-term survival benefit of the toripalimab plus axitinib combination in patients with advanced MM. The 12-gene GEP is of value in predicting the outcomes of vascular endothelial growth factor receptor-tyrosine kinase inhibitor and PD-1 blockade combination therapy, but requires further validation.Trial registration numbers NCT03086174.

Abstract Background Glioma is a lethal malignant brain tumor, which affects the brain functions and is life-threatening. LncRNA UCA1 was identified as a pivotal regulator for tumorigenesis of glioma. MiR-206 was discovered to promote tumorigenesis and is critical in the regulation of cell proliferation in glioma. This study will discuss the expression of UCA1 regarding miR-206 and CLOCK, and their integrative effects in the proliferation and cell cycle of glioma cells. Methods qRT-PCR was conducted to measure the mRNA expressions of IgG and Ago2 in cells co-transfected with UCA1, and miR-216 in U251. Bioinformation was analyzed for the prediction of association between UCA1 and miR-206. Transwell migrations assays and invasion assays were utilized to observe the cell invasive ability. Western blot and immunofluorescence imaging were used to examine the protein expressions. In vivo comparisons and observations were also performed to investigate the role of UCA1 in glioma growth. Results LncRNA UCA1 was up-regulated in glioma cell lines and tissues. It elevated cell invasion via the inducing of epithelial-mesenchymal transition. We found that UCA1 can modulate miR-206 expression and serve as an endogenous sponge of miR-206. The EMT-inducer CLOCK was validated as a messenger RNA target of miR-206. At last, we demonstrated that UCA1 exerted the biology function through regulating miR-206 and CLOCK in vivo. Conclusions Overall, the results demonstrated that UCA1/miR-206/CLOCK axis participated in the progressing of glioma and could act as a promising therapeutic target.

Objective: Transdermal drug delivery systems represent a critical focus in the pharmaceutics field; however, their use is limited by the fact that many drugs usually pass through the skin with low permeability. Menthol is a common penetration enhancer because of its high penetration-enhancing efficiency and safety. Our research aimed to reveal the penetration-enhancing mechanisms of menthol via a multiscale study. Methods: First, the interaction of menthol with the stratum corneum was studied using vertical Franz diffusion cells obtained from the abdominal skin of rats as a model. Then, the skin samples were observed via transmission electron microscopy. Finally, the interaction of different concentrations of menthol with a mixed lipid model of the stratum corneum was investigated via molecular dynamics simulation using the GROMOS 54A7 force field on a microcosmic level. Results: At concentrations of 3.5% or lower, menthol changed the original structure of the stratum corneum to varying degrees, which increased its fluidity and facilitated the permeation and storage of menthol. Menthol increased the fluidity of the stratum corneum mainly via two mechanisms. First, menthol had strong hydrogen-bonding capability, and it could compete for the lipid–lipid hydrogen bonding sites, thereby weakening the stability of the hydrogen-bonding network connecting the skin lipids. In addition, menthol had strong affinity for cholesterol, probably due to their similar molecular structures, suggesting that the incorporation of menthol would increase the fluidity of the lipid membrane similarly to cholesterol. Conclusion: The penetration-enhancing mechanism of menthol was explained using in vitro and molecular dynamics simulation methods. These findings may advance the basic research of transdermal drug delivery systems and facilitate the discoveries of novel penetration enhancers. Abstract Background Melanoma is one of the most aggressive cancers with extremely poor prognosis, and the median survival time for stage IV patients is approximately 6 to 8 months. Unlike cutaneous melanoma, mucosal melanoma is a rare melanoma subtype among Caucasian patients but its incidence remains as high as 22.6% among Chinese patients. Screening specific genetic variations is the guideline to select targeted drugs for the treatment of advanced melanoma, whereas the genetic variation spectrum and potential therapeutic targets for mucosal melanoma are largely unclear. It is urgent to identify promising genetic variants for mucosal melanoma so as to develop effective targeted therapies for this disease. Methods Tumor samples from 213 Chinese mucosal melanoma patients were involved in this study. P16INK4a/Cyclin D1/CDK4 copy number was examined using the QuantiGene Plex DNA assay and the correlation between abnormal copy number and clinicopathological parameters was analyzed. Patient-derived xenograft models (PDX) were performed to detect the effects of CDK4/6 inhibitors on the proliferation of mucosal melanoma cells with altered copy number of CDK4 pathway (CDK4, Cyclin D1 and P16 INK4a). The molecular mechanisms of CDK4/6 inhibitors on the proliferation of mucosal melanoma were analyzed by RNAseq. Results Among the 213 samples, the amplification rate of CDK4 and CCND1 was 47.0% and 27.7%, respectively, and the deletion rate of P16 INK4a was 57.7%. Patients with more than one genetic abnormality were up to 81.7%. CDK4 pathway gene copy number variation was not associated with the prognosis of patients with mucosal melanoma (P > 0.05). Drug sensitivity tests showed that AT7519, a broad-spectrum CDK inhibitor, and PD0332991, a specific CDK4/6 inhibitor, exhibited higher inhibitory effect on CDK4 signaling pathway abnormal mucosal melanoma cells-derived PDX tumors growth than CDK4 signaling pathway normal ones. RNA-seq analysis showed that CDK4 inhibitors may affect tumor proliferation through multiple signaling pathways. Conclusions Abnormal copy number of cell cycle related genes is frequently found in mucosal melanoma. CDK4/6 inhibitors significantly suppress the PDX tumor growth with abnormal CDK4 pathway. CDK4 signaling variations predict the effectiveness of CDK4 inhibitors in mucosal melanoma.

The high price of noble metal resources limits its commercial application and stimulates the potential for developing new catalysts that can replace noble metal catalysts. Tungsten-based catalysts have become the most important substitutes for noble metal catalysts because of their rich resources, friendly environment, rich valence and better adsorption enthalpy. However, some challenges still hinder the development of tungsten-based catalysts, such as limited catalytic activity, instability, difficult recovery, and so on. At present, the focus of tungsten-based catalyst research is to develop a satisfactory material with high catalytic performance, excellent stability and green environmental protection, mainly including tungsten atomic catalysts, tungsten metal nanocatalysts, tungsten-based compound nanocatalysts, and so on. In this work, we first present the research status of these tungsten-based catalysts with different sizes, existing forms, and chemical compositions, and further provide a basis for future perspectives on tungsten-based catalysts.

Autophagy, a lysosomal degradation pathway, serves as a protective cellular mechanism in maintaining cell and tissue homeostasis under mechanical stimulation. As the mechanosensitive cells, periodontal ligament stem cells (PDLSCs) play an important role in the force-induced inflammatory bone remodeling and tooth movement process. However, whether and how autophagy in PDLSCs influences the inflammatory bone remodeling process under mechanical force stimuli is still unknown. In this study, we found that mechanical force stimuli increased the expression of the autophagy protein LC3, the number of M1 macrophages and osteoclasts, as well as the ratio of M1/M2 macrophages in the compression side of the periodontal ligament in vivo. These biological changes induced by mechanical force were repressed by the application of an autophagy inhibitor 3-methyladenine. Moreover, autophagy was activated in the force-loaded PDLSCs, and force-stimulated PDLSC autophagy further induced M1 macrophage polarization in vitro. The macrophage polarization could be partially blocked by the administration of autophagy inhibitor 3-methyladenine or enhanced by the administration of autophagy activator rapamycin in PDLSCs. Mechanistically, force-induced PDLSC autophagy promoted M1 macrophage polarization via the inhibition of the AKT signaling pathway. These data suggest a novel mechanism that force-stimulated PDLSC autophagy steers macrophages into the M1 phenotype via the AKT signaling pathway, which contributes to the inflammatory bone remodeling and tooth movement process.

The vibrations generated by a three-phase power transformer reduce the comfort of residents and the service life of surrounding equipment. To resolve this tough issue, a quasi-zero-stiffness (QZS) isolator for the transformer is proposed. This paper is devoted to developing a QZS isolator in a simple way for engineering practices. The vertical springs are used to support the heavy weight of the transformer, while the oblique springs are employed to fulfill negative stiffness to neutralize the positive stiffness of the vertical spring. Hence, a combination of the vertical and oblique spring can yield high static but low dynamic stiffness, and the vibration isolation efficiency can be improved substantially. The dynamic analysis for the QZS vibration isolation system is conducted by the harmonic balance method, and the vibration isolation performance is estimated. Finally, the prototype of the QZS isolator is manufactured, and then the vibration isolation performance is tested comparing with the linear isolator under real power loading conditions. The experimental results show that the QZS isolator prominently outperforms the existing linear isolator. This is the first time to devise a QZS isolator for three-phase power transformers with heavy payloads in engineering practices.

Cell culture is one of the most core and fundamental techniques employed in the fields of biology and medicine. At present, although the two-dimensional cell culture method is commonly used in vitro, it is quite different from the cell growth microenvironment in vivo. In recent years, the limitations of two-dimensional culture and the advantages of three-dimensional culture have increasingly attracted more and more attentions. Compared to two-dimensional culture, three-dimensional culture system is better to realistically simulate the local microenvironment of cells, promote the exchange of information among cells and the extracellular matrix (ECM), and retain the original biological characteristics of stem cells. In this review, we first present three-dimensional cell culture methods from two aspects: a scaffold-free culture system and a scaffold-based culture system. The culture method and cell characterizations will be summarized. Then the application of three-dimensional cell culture system is further explored, such as in the fields of drug screening, organoids and assembloids. Finally, the directions for future research of three-dimensional cell culture are stated briefly.

Active control is currently a hot-button issue in the research of reducing vibration and noise created by rolling piston compressors. Active control can effectively suppress the modal vibration of the structure and reduce the modal resonance acoustic radiation. This paper, which focuses on the active control of the compressor shell’s multiple modes with the control of acoustic radiation power being the research objective, studies the relationship between vibration modes and acoustic radiation modes of the compressor shell and the primary sources of noise. An improved Filtered-U least mean square (FULMS) algorithm for compressor vibration and noise control, which is based on the Nesterov accelerated adaptive moment estimation (NADAM) optimization algorithm, is proposed to determine the multi-order modes to be controlled from the perspective of sound energy, and a particle swarm algorithm is used to determine the location and number of secondary sources. The active control model of the compressor shell was established by using the joint simulation platform, and the performance of the improved algorithm was verified and analyzed by the simulation test process. The results show that compared with the traditional FULMS algorithm, the improved FULMS algorithm has better active vibration control effect, higher convergence speed and can effectively suppress structural mode vibration in a short period time.

Tumor mutation burden (TMB) and tumor infiltrating lymphocytes have been well-recognized as molecular determinants of immunotherapeutic responsiveness in many types of cancer. However, the relationship between TMB with immune infiltrates and their prognostic role are reported occasionally in skin cutaneous melanoma (SKCM). We obtained the somatic mutation data and transcriptome profiles of 454 SKCM patients from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database, and analyzed the mutation profiles using “maftools” package. Correlation analysis revealed that lower TMB levels conferred poor survival outcomes, associated with lower age and advanced pathological stage. Differential analysis was conducted to the genome expression between two TMB groups using “limma” package, and we identified four hub TMB-related immune genes including CNTFR, CRABP2, GAL, and PAEP. We further analyzed the underlying relationships of the copy number variations (CNVs) of four hub genes with immune infiltrates in SKCM microenvironment through TIMER database. The results indicated that diverse forms of CNVs carried by hub genes could commonly inhibit immune infiltrates. Based on the CIBERSORT method, we compared the proportions of 22 immune cells in two TMB groups and assessed their prognostic value. The data revealed that infiltrations levels of regulatory T (Treg) cell and dendritic activated cells in high-TMB group were lower than that in low-TMB group, while M1 and M2 macrophages showed the opposite trend, especially the levels of neutrophil and macrophage correlated positively with prognosis of SKCM. Finally, we constructed a TMB Prognostic Index (TMBPI) to evaluate the predictive accuracy of the four hub TMB-related immune genes. The ROC curve was drawn to assess the predictive accuracy with AUC = 0.664 and higher TMBPI conferred poor survival outcomes, which warranted further investigation and larger samples to validate.

Abstract Metal‐based nanocatalysts supported on carbon have significant prospect for industry. However, a straightforward method for efficient and stable nanocatalysts still remains extremely challenging. Inspired by the structure and comptosition of cell walls and membranes, an ion chemical bond anchoring, an in situ carbonization coreduction process, is designed to obtain composite catalysts on N‐doped 2D carbon (C‐N) loaded with various noble and non‐noble metals (for example, Pt, Ru, Rh, Pd, Ag, Ir, Au, Co, and Ni) nanocatalysts. These 2 nm particles uniformly and stably bond with the C‐N support since the agglomeration and growth are suppressed by anchoring the metal ions on the cell wall and membrane during the carbonization and reduction reactions. The Pt@C‐N exhibits excellent catalytic activity and long‐term stability for the hydrogen evolution reaction, and the relative overpotential at 100 mA cm−2 is only 77 mV, which is much lower than that of commercial Pt/C and Pt single‐atom catalysts reported recently.

Abstract Background Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR)-engineered T cells have demonstrated promising clinical efficacy in patients with B cell lymphoma. However, the application of CAR-T cell therapy in the treatment of other solid tumors has been limited. We incorporated 4-1BB into the anti-GD2 CAR-T cells to test their cytotoxicity in melanoma in vitro and in vivo. Moreover, we reported the expression of ganglioside GD2 in non-Caucasian melanoma populations for the first time, thus providing a basis for future clinical research. Methods This study included tumor samples from 288 melanoma patients at the Peking University Cancer Hospital & Institute. Clinical data were collected. Immunohistochemical assays using antibodies against ganglioside GD2 were performed on formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded specimens. The ability of ganglioside GD2 CAR-T cells to kill ganglioside GD2+ melanoma cells was evaluated in vitro and in a patient-derived xenograft (PDX) model. Results Among the 288 samples, 49.3% of cases (142/288) demonstrated positive staining with ganglioside GD2. The median survival time in patients exhibiting ganglioside GD2 expression was significantly shorter than that in patients without ganglioside GD2 expression (31 vs. 47.1 months, P

Sargassum hemiphyllum (Turner) C. Agardh is an important brown macroalga. In this study, we presented the complete chloroplast genome of its variety S. hemiphyllum var. chinense using genome skimming approach. Circular mapping revealed its sequence length was 124,319 bp, with a large single-copy region (LSC, 73,505 bp) and a small single copy region (SSC, 39,922 bp) separated by a pair of inverted repeats (IRs, 5446 bp). Its chloroplast genome contained 173 genes, including 139 protein-coding, 6 rRNA, and 28 tRNA genes. The phylogenetic analysis indicated that S. hemiphyllum var. chinense was closely related with S. confusum.

Abstract Background Coexistence of enhancer of zeste homolog 2 (EZH2) and BRAF gene aberrations has been described in many cancer types. In this study, we aim to explore the coexistence status of BRAF V600E mutation and the copy number variation of EZH2 and explore the potential of this combination as a therapeutic target. Methods A total of 138 cases of melanoma samples harboring BRAF V600E mutation were included, and EZH2 copy numbers were examined by QuantiGenePlex DNA Assays. Clinical pathological distinction between patient groups with or without EZH2 amplification (hereafter referred to as EZH2 gain) was statistically analyzed. The sensitivity of melanoma cell lines and patient-derived xenograft (PDX) models containing BRAF V600E mutation with or without EZH2 gain to vemurafenib (BRAF inhibitor), GSK2816126 (EZH2 inhibitor) and a combination of both agents was evaluated. Results In our cohort, the coexistence rate of BRAF V600E mutation and EZH2 gain was up to 29.0%, and significant differences in overall survival and disease-free survival were found between no EZH2 copy number gain and gain groups (P = 0.038, P = 0.030), gain and high EZH2 copy number gain groups (P = 0.006, P = 0.010). Combination with BRAF and EZH2 inhibition showed better inhibitory efficacy in melanoma prevention compared with vemurafenib monotherapy. More importantly, this improved therapeutic effect was observed especially in melanoma cell lines and PDX models containing concurrently BRAF V600E mutation and EZH2 gain. Conclusions Coexistence of BRAF V600E mutation and EZH2 gain is rather prevalent in melanoma. Our findings provided evidence for the feasibility of combination therapy with EZH2 and BRAF inhibitors in melanoma with concurrent BRAF V600E mutation and EZH2 gain.

Polyacrylonitrile (PAN), cellulose acetate (CA) and polyacrylonitrile - cellulose acetate (PAN-CA) fibres were formed in single and binary solvents which were subjected to gyration under pressure. Fibres in the diameter range 200–2000 nm were generated using a rotating speed of 36,000 rpm and a working pressure of 3 × 105 Pa. Long fibre morphologies with isotropic distribution of fibre orientation were obtained from PAN polymer solutions with a concentration of 5–15 wt%. Short fibre morphologies with anisotropic distribution of fibre orientation were produced for CA polymer solutions with a concentration of 25 wt% and below this concentration polygonal beads were generated. PAN-CA fibre bundles were generated and these showed remarkable self-generating porous characteristics when the working pressure was changed from 1 to 3 × 105 Pa. For comparison, porous PAN-CA fibres were also generated by solvent etching and porogen leaching techniques and in these the etching time and porogen concentration influenced the pore size of the generated fibres. Fourier transform infrared and Raman spectroscopies were performed to elucidate the bonding characteristics in the fibres. Release characteristics of the porous fibrous structures were studied using vanillin as the active ingredient. A mathematical model which allows the evaluation of the fibre diameter as a function of rotating speed and working pressure is presented and this helps to understand the solvent mass transfer taking place during fibre forming. High-dose interferon alfa-2b (IFN-α-2b) improves the survival of patients with high-risk melanoma. We aimed to identify baseline peripheral blood biomarkers to predict the outcome of acral melanoma patients treated with IFN-α-2b. Pretreatment baseline parameters and clinical data were assessed in 226 patients with acral melanoma. Relapse-free survival (RFS) and overall survival (OS) were assessed using the Kaplan-Meier method, and multivariate Cox regression analyses were applied after adjusting for stage, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), and ulceration. Univariate analysis showed that neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio ≥2.35, platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio ≥129, systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) ≥615 × 109/l, and elevated LDH were significantly associated with poor RFS and OS. The SII is calculated as follows: platelet count × neutrophil count/lymphocyte count. On multivariate analysis, the SII was associated with RFS [hazard ratio (HR)=1.661, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.066-2.586, P=.025] and OS (HR=2.071, 95% CI: 1.204-3.564, P=.009). Additionally, we developed a novel circulating T-cell immune index (CTII) calculated as follows: cytotoxic T lymphocytes/(CD4+ regulatory T cells × CD8+ regulatory T cells). On univariate analysis, the CTII was associated with OS (HR=1.73, 95% CI: 1.01-2.94, P=.044). The SII and CTII might serve as prognostic indicators in acral melanoma patients treated with IFN-α-2b. The indexes are easily obtainable via routine tests in clinical practice.

Developing a porous separation membrane that can efficiently separate oil–water emulsions still represents a challenge. In this study, nanofiber membranes with polydopamine clusters polymerized and embedded on the surface were successfully constructed using a solution blow-spinning process. The hierarchical surface structure enhanced the selective wettability, superhydrophilicity in air (≈0°), and underwater oleophobicity (≈160.2°) of the membrane. This membrane can effectively separate oil–water emulsions, achieving an excellent permeation flux (1552 Lm−2 h−1) and high separation efficiency (~99.86%) while operating only under the force of gravity. When the external driving pressure was increased to 20 kPa, the separation efficiency hardly changed (99.81%). However, the permeation flux significantly increased to 5894 Lm−2 h−1. These results show that the as-prepared polydopamine nanocluster-embedded nanofiber membrane has an excellent potential for oily wastewater treatment applications.

Advances in solid-state white-light-emitting diodes (WLEDs) necessitate the urgent development of highly efficient single-phase phosphors with tunable photoluminescence properties. Herein, the Tm3+, Dy3+, and Sm3+ ions are incorporated into the orthorhombic NaGdTiO4 (NGT) phosphors, resulting in phosphors that fulfill the aforementioned requirement. The emission spectrum of Tm3+ ions overlaps well with the adsorption spectra of both Dy3+ and Sm3+ ions. Under the excitation at 358 nm, the single-phase NaGdTiO4: Tm3+, Dy3+, Sm3+ phosphor exhibits tunable emission peaks in the blue, yellow, and red regions simultaneously, resulting in an intense white-light emission. The coexisting energy transfer behaviors from Tm3+ to Dy3+ and Sm3+ ions and the energy transfer from Dy3+ to Sm3+ ions are demonstrated to be responsible for this phenomenon. The phosphors with multiple energy transfers enable the development of single-phase white-light-emitting phosphors for phosphor-converted WLEDs.

The fabrication and luminescent performance of novel phosphors Na2YMg2V3O12:Dy3+ were investigated by a conventional solid-state reaction method. Under near-UV light, the Na2YMg2V3O12 host self-activated and released a broad emission band (400−700 nm, with a peak at 524 nm) ascribable to charge transfer in the (VO4)3− groups. Meanwhile, the Na2YMg2V3O12:Dy3+ phosphors emitted bright yellow light within both the broad emission band of the (VO4)3- groups and the sharp peaks of the Dy3+ ions at 490, 582, and 663 nm at a quenching concentration of 0.03 mol. The emission of the as-prepared Na2YMg2V3O12:Dy3+ phosphors remained stable at high temperatures. The obtained phosphors, commercial Y2O3:Eu3+ red phosphors, and BaMgAl10O17:Eu2+ blue phosphors were packed into a white light-emitting diode (WLED) device with a near-UV chip. The designed WLED emitted bright white light with good chromaticity coordinates (0.331, 0.361), satisfactory color rendering index (80.2), and proper correlation to a color temperature (7364 K). These results indicate the potential utility of Na2YMg2V3O12:Dy3+ phosphor as a yellow-emitting phosphor in solid-state illumination.

The study of compacted clay material under dynamic load coupled with dry-wet cycling is one of the most important areas in the field of transportation. In this paper, experiments in terms of compacted clay under dynamic load coupled with dry-wet cycling are performed, and synchronous resistivity tests are also conducted. According to the test results, the influences of cumulative plastic strain, dry-wet cycles, and amplitudes on the soil resistivity are analyzed. Then a new damage factor based on resistivity is proposed to evaluate the long-term performance of compacted clay material. The result of research shows that the evolution of the soil resistivity can be divided into two stages, which has a contrary tendency with that of cumulative plastic strain. The dry-wet cycles and amplitudes have a significant effect on the damage of the compacted soil, which indicates that the dry-wet cycling of compacted soil materials should not be ignored in road engineering, especially in rainy and humid areas.

The development of white-light-emitting diodes (w-LEDs) makes it meaningful to develop novel high-performance phosphors excited by blue light. Herein, BiOCl:Pr3+ green-yellow phosphors were prepared via a high-temperature solid-state reaction method. The crystal structure, luminescent properties, lifetime, thermal quenching behavior, and quantum yield were studied in detail. The BiOCl:Pr3+ phosphors presented several emission peaks located in green and red regions, under excitation at 453 nm. The CIE coordinates could be tuned along with the changed doping concentration with fair luminescence efficiency. The results also indicated that the optimized doping concentration of Pr3+ ions was at x = 0.0075 because of the concentration quenching behavior resulting from an intense exchange effect. When the temperature reached 150 °C, the intensity of the emission peak at 495 nm could remain at 78% of that at room temperature. The activation energy of 0.20 eV also confirmed that the BiOCl:Pr3+ phosphor exhibited good thermal stability. All these results indicate that the prepared products have potential to be used as a high-performance green-yellow-light-emitting phosphor for blue-light-based w-LEDs.

DC bias is a great threat to the safe operation of power transformers. This paper deals with a new vibration-based technique to diagnose DC bias in power transformers. With this technique, the DC bias status of power transformers can be automatically recognized. The vibration variation process of a 500 kV autotransformer is tested under the influence of DC bias in the monopole trail operation stage of a ±800 kV HVDC transmission system. Comparison of transformer vibration under normal and DC-biased conditions is conducted. Three features are proposed and are validated by sensitivity analysis. The principal component analysis method is employed for feature de-correlation and dimensionality reduction. The least square support vector machine algorithm is used and verified successful in DC bias recognition. A remote on-line monitoring device based on the proposed algorithm is designed and applied in field DC bias diagnosis of power transformers. The suggested diagnostic algorithm and monitoring device could be useful in targeted DC bias control and improving the safe operation level of power transformers.

Two quaternary metal chalcogenides, Ba2AlSbS5 and Ba2GaBiSe5, were successfully synthesized by solid-state reaction in sealed silica tubes. Both of them crystallize in the same orthorhombic space group Pnma, but they appear with obviously different construction features. For example, Ba2AlSbS5 exhibits [SbS3]3− units and zero-dimensional (0D) [AlSbS5]4− clusters, which is different from those ([BiSe6]3− units and 1D ∞[GaBiSe5]4− chains) of Ba2GaBiSe5. We also systematically investigated the entire series of Ba2MIIIMIII’Q5 (MIII = Al, Ga, In; MIII’ = As, Sb, Bi; Q = S, Se, Te) compounds, and the results showed that the interconnection of MIIIQ4 and MIII’Qn (n = 3, 5, 6) units can form three different structural types, including 0D [MIIIMIII’Q5] clusters, single [MIII’Q3] chains and isolated [MIIIQ4] units, or [MIIIQ3]n and [MIII’Q3]n double chains, which may be induced by the flexible coordination and on-link modes of MIII’ atoms. Spectral investigation shows that their bandgaps are about 2.57 eV for Ba2AlSbS5 and 2.14 eV for Ba2GaBiSe5. Theoretical calculation was also used to analyze their structure-property relationships, and the results indicate that the title compounds exhibit larger birefringences (Δn > 0.10), thus having potential as the IR birefringent materials.
